Toy safety DYK
Yeah it was nice to see that toy safety was on DYK. Just a shame that the hook was wrong as that toy was never recalled! violet/riga (t) 09:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Re:
Its okay at least you replied i noticed theres a Nasa license and the Google earth images indicate that its from Nasa so if i use it under nasa license it might be acceptable. Nareklm 20:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hey just to let you know Ararat violated the 3RR on Urartu and Mitanni again i told you and he is calling all the editors "kids" and he is emailing every admin about this to get opinions supposibly. I filed a report on the 3RR section. Nareklm 22:27, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for acting, Nareklm 22:41, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
24 protection
You might want to consider keeping an eye on (and maybe protecting) the SuperShadow and Hayden Christensen pages as well - seems our intrepid vandal from today had the jones for all three of those. Just a heads up... :) TheRealFennShysa 23:58, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, Academic Challenger (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) blocked the user indefinitely, but he did leave a note on the block log that it was a vandal sockpuppet. If the guy comes back tomorrow under a different account, then I'll consider temporary protection of the article(s). Nishkid64 00:02, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- He's already back... look at Molodzianowski... TheRealFennShysa 00:04, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I blocked Molodzianowski. Academic Challenger 00:08, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Nishkid
Nishki, I did discuss in the Talk:Mitanni and Talk:Urartu. Just cause I didnt respond to you about this, doesnt mean I get blocked. I responded to other admins about this, and explained about the 3RR issue. They didnt block me, yet Narek would let them know about it. Ararat arev 23:00, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Narek was actually childishly making a big deal about this, and I didnt say "kid" since you the logs and edit history. The images should go back how they were. Please check the Mitanni page. The royal seal of Mitanni (Indo-Aryan) should go back there. Ararat arev 23:03, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- What a way to bend the rules! Nish please see this he is using another account user = 206.148.188.247 to revert now and he just replied with that i.p on your talk page Nareklm 00:22, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Please protect it he's back: 67.150.170.179 Nareklm 00:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Nishkid is my Indian friend from Mitanni :) Hahah. Our ancestors were in Mitanni Nishkid. Armenian , Persian, Kurd, and Indian :) Mitanni (Indo-Aryan) We also Aryan we say in Armenian Aryaee :) 66.81.158.31 00:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I like my Indian cousins from the past. Then Nishkid, you and Persians migrated south to your lands :) around 1200 BC after the fall of Mitanni dynasty. :)
- Thanks for all your help :-] Nareklm 00:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Nishkid , Narek is removing my Talk:Mitanni disucssions. Also, please put back Dbachmann's edits of the royal seal that Nareklm took out
Dbachmann had put the Mitanni royal seal in the middle of the page in proper place of the king, and Narek reverted this. Wikipedai is not dull and boring, but filled with related images of articles
You tell me he can get away with "page cleanup" or whatever that was, and I cant put a better explaintion which User:Dbachmann put the royal seal of Mitanni near its proper king's section where it belongs??
- Wow man what are we going to do with this guy? Nareklm 01:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Mrsupes
His first username was Mrsupes, but he did not create a user page. Are you sure it's a good idea to protect the rest of the pages? He may just move on to other pages and be harder to catch. Academic Challenger 00:29, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Image stones
Did I miss something? Why is this getting a second shot at DYK? Savidan 01:10, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- I did the update twenty minutes before the new day began (well not for me, but for UTC). I left one entry out at the time because it distorted the Main Page. Once it hit 0:00 UTC, I added back that entry, as there was a short DYK and an extremely long ITN. I tried to tinker with ITN, and fixed it up by removing the last two entries from there. By doing so, I made the left column much shorter than the left column. To fix this balance, I removed the last item from DYK. It was only up on DYK for 30 minutes or so, and it can go back up for the Next Update. Nishkid64 01:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I just figured that out. Feel free to just send the update I did back to the Next Update. From now on I guess I'll check the template history and the timer. Savidan 01:36, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all, it was more my fault than yours. I assume you mean that I should have linked the "(pictured)" when I archived it. I've never noticed that before. I'll go back and fix the other handful of archives that I've done. Savidan 01:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about that; I am legally incompetent. Savidan 01:44, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Dartmouth's in New Hampshire, not Maine, btw. Savidan 01:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Ararat Arev
Well, since my AN/I post, he's edited under two more IP addresses (both blocked now) and keeps stalking me about changing the article. Nishkid64 01:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, another IP I blocked. Nishkid64 01:54, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay; I'm officially retracting that comment on WP:ANI; a week is perfectly fine, and a further extension could soon be in order if he doesn't stop. -- tariqabjotu 01:59, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Since you are the banning admin in this case, I suppose I'll direct this question to you. I know it's probably a little unprecedented, however I believe I have an idea which could save many editors much pain. Going on several months of experience with Ararat Arev, I can say that the disruptions he causes come almost wholesale from his ignorance of and refusal to thorougly read even some of the most basic of the rules on wikipedia. Is it possible to put one catch on his being unblocked after the experation of his block? He should be asked to openly affirm that he has read from beginning to end certain basic pages, especially those on the 3rr rule, personal attacks, and vandalism, before he is permitted to edit anything again. I am not asking that his block be necesarrily extended, but that he be required to go on record saying that he has read these pages before he returns to editing, since he has been asked to read them several dozen times, yet he seems to display utter ignorance of them when editing. If he does read them and abides by them, much pain will be saved many editors. If he lies or simply ignors them, then next time he will be caught red handed.
I am not sure if there is any precident for this, but it would save us much pain in the long run, I believe. Thanatosimii 06:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)- there is no patent remedy against behaviour such as Ararat Arev's. His blocks lengths will escalate if he goes on, and he'll eventually reform, retire or be permabanned. It just takes time, there is no way to significantly speed up the process. dab (𒁳) 09:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
hi Nishkid64 -- I take it upon myself to unprotect Mitanni, since the edit-war was provoked by a single user running amok. Since this user was blocked for 3rr, the edit-war stopped, anyway, and there is no reason to protect the article as well. I hope you don't mind, otherwise let me know. regards, dab (𒁳) 09:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Unprotection of Curtis Manning
Can I ask you to reconsider your decision not to un-semi-protect this article. The issue wasn't really vandalism, it was users putting probable but unconfirmed information into the article. The information has now been confirmed in a couple of different ways, and I don't think anyone is advocating it not being in the article, so I can't see why there'd be any more problem. I just dislike keeping pages protected for any longer than should be required. Regards. Trebor 07:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Trebor 17:32, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Problems with Mario Party articles
All the articles in this template:
(with the exception of the games listed below 8), keep getting vandalized. Mini-game lists are cruft and don't need to be listed, per how the Mario Party article was set up before he changed it (a pretty well written article with no mass mini-game list). User:Henchman 2000 (talk · contribs) keeps re-adding them, with such claims as "Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia, there is no limit to the size of number of articles on the encyclopedia". I've tried to discuss that Wikipedia isn't a game guide or a fan's guide to every little note, but he won't listen. RobJ1981 19:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
DYK for Misner space
I just tidied it up and moved it to the correct title. If there's any doubt about one of mine don't bother crediting me, I won't be upset. Cheers, Yomanganitalk 23:09, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Jacksnipe (dinghy)
Was there a good reason to omit "Jacksnipe cockpit side.jpg"? This image, taken in conjunction with the other cockpit shot, is important for understanding why the design has such exemplary buoyancy characteristics.
Antonhu 23:20, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to add it back, if you want. I felt the article was too cluttered with images, and so I decided to remove one. Please don't make images so big, as it makes the page really annoying to read. It should be situated in appropriate spots throughout the article. Also, I nominated your article for WP:DYK, and you may see it on the Main Page in a few days! =) Nishkid64 23:35, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
DYK - argghh
I replaced Misner space on the main page with Alexander Lebedev but you are just ahead of me - anyway the notifications are already done for that one. Yomanganitalk 02:02, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I clicked on edit to remove it from the DYK noms page and it disappeared, so I looked at the next update page and it was there, so I clicked edit and it was gone again. You must have been seconds ahead of me every time. Yomanganitalk 02:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Nish, an editor asked me to have look over Scott Johnson (artist), and the related AfD which you recently concluded as keep. Having had a quick look, I have to agree that many of the keep votes in the AfD were largely without merit and the article does not satisy WP:V and possibly WP:BIO. If you could have another look at this and reconsider, I'd appreciate it. I have a feeling this would go to DRV if it remains kept, but I would certainly rather that you had a chance reverse the decision first. Cheers, Deizio talk 06:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Nish, Deizio talk 13:59, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
DasBlog
Hi. Would you mind explaining your reasoning regarding the closure of this AfD? I only see one keep that is not a blatent meatpuppet - the rest are deletes. Thanks, CiaranG 08:41, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Jacksnipe (dinghy)
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I re-introduced the side view for the reason given previously. This boat was a landmark in design that has still not been surpassed, and so it's important to document it fully.
As to readablity, I find that the shorter lines generated by images can actually enhance readability with the small font/line spacing used.
Antonhu 13:42, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Scott Johnson (artist)
Can you explain to me why the result was keep? No sources for notability were given or exist in the article and all arguments in the afd to keep referenced personal preference rather than wikipedia guidelines. If the keep result was the result of more keep votes it should be noted that the subject himself pleaded with his readers to argue for keeping and that most of the keep votes were made by anonymous IPs or newly created users. - Ocatecir 03:48, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I second this question. You seem to have ignored that every user voting keep used no reference or guideline other than "I like it." Fethers 04:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, Nish. Much appreciated. - Ocatecir 16:29, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Cathedral Saint-Peter Saint-Paul
What do you think of Cathedral Saint-Peter Saint-Paul as a DYK? A very good start I thinkErnst Stavro Blofeld 15:56, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's a great DYK candidate. I've made some minor copyedits dealing with the referencing. I think a DYK image is appropriate for this subject, if you haven't added one already. For me, it seems like the article itself has too many images because it's not that much of a smooth layout. Can you make the images smaller or move one to the gallery? Nishkid64 16:39, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
thanks for your adjustments -appreciated. maybe one image can be put in the gallery. I have added the picture to the proposal for DYK. I reckon it is good enough to be at the top of the DYK feature on the main page soon with that main picture featured with it? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 16:44, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I will minimise the pixtures rather than moving to gallery because I feel the are all needed in the main body if this is okayErnst Stavro Blofeld 16:45, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

- I even had a message on my talk page for my sometimes-mistaken edit summaries. :-D. Nishkid64 20:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

After meeting the requirements of an admin, I submitted my adminship request at WP:RFA. At the time I became admin, I had a few months of experience and over 6,000 edits. - Okay, protected. By the way, you might want to consider using edit summaries instead of just doing rollbacks. It makes it easier for other people to understand what's going on. Nishkid64 21:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, sure. That's a very good point. I wish there was actually some way to disable my rollback button, 'cause I use it a shortcut too often and I suppose it's inappropriate for content disputes. Khoikhoi 22:02, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks! I became an administrator after I earned a reputation as a productive, civil and trustworthy editor on Wikipedia (took me a few months). After I had 6,000+ edits, I went up for adminship, and got promoted. To become bureaucrat, you have to be an admin for a long period of time, and need to meet certain requirements. Inappropriate
I think it's quite inappropriate of you to target that comment singularly at me, especially when Majorly had a major part in today's incidents. I think this is a textbook case of kicking a guy while he's down, and I don't appreciate it. – Chacor 10:27, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Film stuff
Unless you didn't know I am a member of WikiProject Films and am compiling an entire list of notable feature films to add to wikipedia by country. I am currently working on List of Argentine films and plan to document every notable film produced by country into year and date order. Category: Argentine films only had about 9 articles 6 week ago!! But as I do this I will be starting hundreds of new actors, direcotrs, cinematographers filling in importnt gaps etc which fall within the scope of biogrpahy. In reality I have been a part of your wikiproject for ages but not offically. See Category:Argentine film directors - many are mine e.g setting them up like Tulio Demicheli and actors such as Gerardo Romano and Tito Alonso. If I can stub them to start with and add an image always where possible I feel it is a good start for later research and expansion. I hope you welcome me on board.
Also still considering the Nantes Cathedral article? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 14:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC).
DYK credits
I don't know if I slipped while adding it to the suggestions page or what, but the Short Sturgeon article featured in DYK last night was created by Bzuk, I just made a few tweaks and nom'd it. - Aerobird Target locked - Fox One! 15:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Proper attribution when merging
I noticed this merge that you did, and you correctly mentioned the article you merged from, so as to attribute who wrote the text (you didn't write the text, someone else did). Unfortunately, you then deleted the article you had merged from. WP:MERGE and WP:GFDL make it clear that you should keep the edit history of merged text so that the author(s) of the text you added can be properly attributed. How would you like it if something you wrote weas merged into another article, and no trace was left that you had originally written that bit of text? Even though the text in question has been removed, correct attribution is an important part of the GFDL. I suggest merge and redirect, or just delete. Merge and delete hardly ever makes any sense. Carcharoth 12:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just a thought, Nish, we should salt them when it is Merge and Delete, so that the History is still available! Cbrown1023 21:30, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
List of Villains
I see you closed the List of Villains AfD (here). I just thought I ought to point out that Villains from comics and graphic novels broke out of this page, so for GFDL reasons List of Villains might need to be restored. There's an AfD running on that page also, here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Villains from comics and graphic novels. If it closes as a delete of course there's no problem, but if it closes as a keep then List of Villains may need to be restored to mainspace. (I'm not sure how that's actually done: presumably you have to make it a protected redirect.) AndyJones 17:18, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. Obviously if it closes as a delete, my point above isn't a problem. AndyJones 20:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh sorry i forgot to say. I told you the reason I just joined WikiProject Biography!! Ernst Stavro Blofeld 17:35, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Tribelands of Haradwaith
I'm sorry, but you called it wrong; the consensus was to "merge where appropriate", not just "to Harad", since it was stated that most of the article isn't sourced from Tolkien's writings. The info I removed from the article (and put in its talk page) "form part of the Games Workshop wargaming products, and are not canonical", as User:Irongargoyle wrote. [2] It should have been merged with The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game. What info can really apply to Harad already is in the article, and it already has a summary of "other media" depictions. To comply with your verdict, I added the names in the "in other media" sections of Harad and Haradrim. The current format of the game article makes it impossible to merge the text as is, so I'm just adding the names there too. Uthanc 22:34, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Being Bold
Hey Nish,
One of the articles that I have dumped tons of hours into, Space warfare in fiction, is up for deletion. At this point, it looks like it will be deleted (and for good reason, as most of it is OR). However, I am wondering if I should take the bold course of action and merge the article back into its parent, Space Warfare (for the record, I was the person who spun Space Warfare in fiction out of Space Warfare in the first place). If I am allowed to do that, I am not sure how to go about it and I don't know if I have the time (very busy with school currently).
Thanks for everything, S h a r k f a c e 2 1 7 04:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Learn to admin?
It's funny looking through your contributions, you make many decisions in under a minute. You close AfDs less than one minute from closing that last (this includes navigating to the page and editing it too).
Just because there is so many AfDs to deal with, doesn't mean you should just rush and get through them all as fast as you can. Do it properly or don't do it all.--Nk64 15:21, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm who are you then? --Majorly 15:32, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- I use an admin script that makes it very easy for me to close AfDs. I open a few AfD windows at a time, and I look at them all before I start making consensus and closing each one. Nishkid64 17:55, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Bit of advice please
Hi - I noticed you're quite involved with portals, which is why I'm coming to you with this question. The Guitar portal is obviously in need of some attention, and there seems to have been no activity there for a long time. Should I just wade in and start fixing things, or am I missing some procedure I have to go through first? If you could give me a few pointers, that would be great.
On another note, I forgot to thank you for reviewing that AfD decision the other day. Keep up the good work. Cheers, CiaranG 18:53, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- This is a portal that definitely has potential. Remember WP:OWN, so you're not stepping on any toes by editing the portal. In fact, you're making it better! For starters, the layout of the page is a bit off. Use P:BEP or Portal:Disasters as a model. We should be showcasing our pictures and articles first, and then have categories, quotes, topics at the bottom. DYK should be expanded if possible, and an archive/suggestions page should be made. Remove the center-justification from the text. It should just be normal text, that is easy to read. For the Intro at top, remove the welcome bit, and just write what a Guitar is (take from Guitar). It seems the news section is a bit outdated, and I'm not totally sure how much guitar news you can really expect. Anyway, the newest items should be at the top, and the oldest at the bottom. Create the redlinks (picture, anniversary), and possibly a new audio section, in which viewers can listen to .ogg media files of guitar solos and such (there's probably a good deal of them in articles). This is all doable, and I'll try to help you out with the portal. Best of luck, Nishkid64 19:01, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for all that. I think I've got the idea - I'll come back to you and ask you to review what I've done when I think I've got it under control, if you don't mind. (Or sooner if I get stuck!). Cheers, CiaranG 19:37, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Nishkid! I was wondering how did you get the online status thing on your userpage? I want to put the one with the flashing light on my userpage. Best regards, Kamope · talk · contributions 02:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I went ahead and created these pages for you: User:Kamope/Status2 and User:Kamope/StatusChange2. StatusChange2 has all the identification stuff, and you can control your status with /Status2. At /Status2, where it currently reads "Online", change it to "Offline" or "Busy" and you can get the customized sign for that. To put it on your user/user talk page, just type {{User:Kamope/Status2}} and then it will show up. Hope that helps! Nishkid64 02:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Deleted article
Dear Nishkid64 I'm sorry if I deleted a real article. The text made absolutely no sense to me. There's a lot of vandalism out there, and sometimes mistakes happen when I make a snap decision. I see it has already been restored, but I would suggest you include a spoiler warning and use more encyclopaedic language throughout, so as to make it clear this is not just someone's mind wandering. There should really be a reference in the article title to the series name. This would, however, make it a very long article title. You may like to consider whether it would be possible for someone searching wikipedia to find this article simply by its title. Unlikely, I'd have thought. Deb 10:53, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

International School of Geneva article
Hey NishKid65
I edited the article "International School of Geneva" after noticing it was the subject of several recommendations. Could you take a look at the changes and see if its enough to remove those recommendations, and if not, could you offer some suggestions for how to meet those recommendations? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thebenfather (talk • contribs) 02:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC).
Jacksnipe (dinghy) on DYK
My article
Well, here it is... my first made-from-scratch, non-stub article: Serenade No. 10 for winds. I'm really quite pleased with the results, whether or not it gets into DYK. At present, I'm trying to think of a good, interesting fact to suggest. Anyway, just thought you'd be interested to see what I've written. Heimstern Läufer 04:11, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Although I'm unfamiliar with the subject, I have to say that it looks like a great DYK candidate. I'm sure it will be up on the Main Page soon. Thanks for your contributions, Heimstern. =) Nishkid64 20:38, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Glad you like it. :-) And glad to offer such contributions. A piece like that, well loved by musicians (if less loved by the scholarly community, grumble) deserves a solid Wikipedia article. Heimstern Läufer 22:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
