Template:Events at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics
[edit]Please do not link the above template on all individual athletics events at the 2014 Youth Olympics. Thanks. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:47, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Sportsfan 1234, I would be glad to understand what lies behind this request? If the purpose of the template is to help navigate between the various Olympic sports at specific Olympic games, why adding the template is problematic? Nimrodbr (talk) 09:15, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
- Its fine to include them on the main sport pages (ie when an article is linked to the template) but not on the individual event pages (which the sidebar links to all the other events of the sport. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 13:57, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

2018 olympic team event qualifying figure skating
[edit]Are you certain that Ukraine, Australia, and the Czech Republic will not fill the vacancies in Grenoble and Lake Placid? There are two openings in the women's competition left and one in the men's, and I can't find any assurance that those countries could not still enter. Is there somewhere that they publish whether those vacancies are going to be filled or not?18abruce (talk) 21:13, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not certain at 100 percent that Australia will not fill the vacancies but as I understand it the chance it will append is very small. Nimrodbr (talk) 22:27, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- I am pretty sure that both Israel and South Korea are indeed qualified, but I think it is wiser to leave it until there is something to confirm. Likely within the week we will know for sure. Thanks for the corrections and additions.18abruce (talk) 23:11, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Copyright problem on Speed skating at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics
[edit]Content you added to the above article appears to have been copied from https://isu.org/docman-documents-links-2/2020-yog-lausanne/qualification-systems-2/17990-speed-skating/file, which is not released under a compatible license. Copying text directly from a source is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed. Content you add to Wikipedia should be written in your own words. Please leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 03:05, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Diannaa. Thank you for your response but as you probably know copyright does not cover ideas and information themselves, only the form or manner in which they are expressed. Accordingly, as my university professors taught me, publishing laws and rules, or in our case, the qualification system, is showing the information itself and not copying the form of it. I leave the decision whether to return the information or not to you. Nimrodbr (talk) 07:05, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
- The ISU has a notice on their webpage that their content is copyright © All rights reserved. You did indeed copy the form of it, because the material you added was practically identical to the source document. It would be ok to add the rules if you could re-write the material in your own words. Previous Youth Olympics articles do not contain information about the rules. I will not be re-adding it, and you should not either. You should add a link to the rules page in the external links section. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:10, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Hey, Nimrodbr. I have added you as a maintainer for the Olympic Games portal. Thanks for helping out!
How much you want to get involved is up to you. It is really not much effort. It is also fine if you just look over the portal and check for outdated content now and then. You can edit most of the portal content via Portal:Olympic Games/backend. I am trying to simplify the maintenance process at the moment. The old portal design used to rely heavily on using way too many sub-pages.
I have made some changes to the layout in the last few months in order to make it more consistent with the associated WikiProject. There were also some complaints raised in the MfD discussion that I am trying to address. I have tried to create a better navigation to important articles about current and upcoming Olympic Games. The old portal was a little bit lack luster when it came to actually navigating to important relevant articles. If you have some ideas in that regard, those are always welcome. --Hecato (talk) 15:05, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Israel at the Olympics
[edit]I see you're a big fan of the Olympics and Israel. Me too! Wanted to introduce myself and say hi. They have a wonderful team and can't wait to see how they do. MaskedSinger (talk) 04:47, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi The table is defined in such a way that it organizes the countries themselves. But inside the coded text, the countries are not sorted by medal. I wanted to sort them but you deleted it. Please arrange the countries yourself within the codes. I also showed obsolete countries in purple. The Netherlands Antilles is now disbanded. Thanks--Hao Xia Xia (talk) 06:59, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Hao Xia Xia, First of all, I did not delete the edit where you sorted the countries within the code. You made this edit and you are welcome to check it out in the history of the article. There is no need to arrange the countries within the code, since the code present the countries sorted. Second, it is not customary to mark obsolete countries in a different color. The fact that a country has ended its membership in the International Olympic Committee does not require special marking on the table. The table is a summary table so the number of medals not the status of NOCs.If you think it is very important to mark these NOCs in a different color. Please open a discussion on the subject. 2021 CS Nebelhorn Trophy
[edit]I understand that the formatting that you used appears correct when you are looking at it on the page, but it does not match with the code formatting used on literally every single other figure skating event page. Check for yourself. It's the formatting we use in the community, and your decision to arbitrarily change it makes it inaccessible for those of us who are active in the community regularly and take the uniformity of the pages very seriously.
I have since changed the designation next to Frangipani's name, but it is technically correct. Italy has already qualified the maximum number of spots in the men's event, and therefore cannot qualify another one. Putting "not competing" instead is also technically incorrect. If you refer to 2017 CS Nebelhorn Trophy, the last time the event was used as the final Olympic qualifier, you will see that the editor used "Already qualified" to differentiate between skaters competing for an Olympic spot and those who were not. Clemkr (talk) 12:15, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Clemkr. First, it is customary to answer on the talk page where the conversation began. Second, the change I made is not a format change as the community definition but a change of wiki code without changing the view outcome in order to optimize the code. Third, in 2017 NOCs that qualified through the World championship could not get an additional quota but could participate in the Trophy competition itself. Hence the caption “already qualified” was relevant in 2017. However, since the qualification system is different, this caption is misleading today. Since for example Canada has already achieved quotas in the World championship but can get additional quotas in the current competition. In addition, countries like Germany and Turkey have a number of participants with some participants competing only in the Trophy competition and some also in the qualification competition. The fact that this is not writen is also misleading. The use of the phrase "not competing" in my opinion correctly represents the fact that the skater does not compete in the qualifying competition. Nimrodbr (talk) 12:31, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Nimrodbr Your message appeared first on my talk page, therefore I responded in kind. My mistake for not realizing its point of origin. I do not see the point in continuing to get bogged down in the semantics of what qualifies as a format change versus a code edit. I feel this conversation is becoming pedantic and unnecessary, and I do not wish to continue discussing the matter. I apologize if my initial response to your code choices on the page in question came across as aggressive - I can see how I could have conveyed my point in a more collegial manner. Nevertheless, I do not see the point in continuing to debate this, and will not be responding to further messages. Good day, wherever you are located in the world. [edit]skeleton rankings
[edit]If you take a look at what happened at Skeleton at the 2018 Winter Olympics – Qualification and the source document here, the IBSF definition of "top 45" is ambiguous. In the men's document I attached they were supposed to be in the top 60, which by their method in "list 3" ends up being IBSF ranking of over 100. It did not make much sense to me then, I believe it remains the same for this Olympics as the wording is the same.18abruce (talk) 00:15, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- @18abruce: OK, now I understand what they do. When you compare the lists, you see that they remove the athletes from each country that qualified that they are not at the top. They took down the remaining athletes from Germany, Russia, and Canada between the first and second list. They dropped the remaining athletes from Latvia, USA, GB, South Korea, Japan, and Austria between the second and third list. Nimrodbr (talk) 07:29, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- Turns out you were right, whatever they did last time is no longer true. Thank you for contributions.18abruce (talk) 13:15, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

2024 World Figure Skating Championships moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, 2024 World Figure Skating Championships, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 10:31, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Judo on Olympics page?
[edit]Do you know why there's no Judo section on Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics? Not only could it be there blank like it is with Equestrian, but some judoka have already been confirmed. MaskedSinger (talk) 05:35, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- It has to do with the principle that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Judo quotas are distributed after the publication of the final Olympic ranking at the end of June. Accordingly, even if a specific judoka has achieved enough points that he is definitely in, until the final ranking is published - it is not official. Personally, there is a disagreement between editors whether in this case to add the names to the article or not. Nimrodbr (talk) 06:05, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
