Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Listed below are some brief introductions containing all the basics needed to use, comment on, and contribute to Wikipedia.

If you want to know more about a specific subject, Help:Help explains how to navigate the many help pages.

 • Google: Wikipedia is very well indexed by Google. Searching for a term, even about an editing question, followed by "wiki" or "wikipedia" usually pulls up what you need.

Where next?

[edit]
 • If you wish to express an opinion or make a comment, Where to ask questions will point you in the correct direction.
 • If you would like to edit an article, the Basic tutorial will show you how, and How to help will give you some ideas for things to edit.
 • If you would like to create a new article, Starting an article will explain how to create a new page, with tips for success and a link to Wikipedia's Article Wizard, which can guide you through the process of submitting a new article to Wikipedia.
 • For more support and some friendly contacts to get you started, the Editors' Welcome page or the Wikipedia:Teahouse page could be your next stop!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Usage of edit summary and reference names

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to List of 2018–19 Pro14 transfers does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. This is especially useful to explain why you remove certain information, as you did with Simon Zebo in the above article.

Also, in this update, you added in the same reference multiple times, meaning it is listed several times in the References / Footnotes section. If you want to use the same source more than once, you should use reference names. Please have a look at this article for more information. Thanks, TheMightyPeanut (talk) 18:55, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Changing sources

[edit]

Hi @NikeCage68:, I've noticed recently that on List of 2018–19 Pro14 transfers you are often changing the sources for no apparent beneficial reason, and I'm wondering why you do this? Specifically, I've noticed you do this here, here and here. Whilst there is nothing wrong with the sources you are replacing them with, I don't see why you need to change them in the first place, as, more often than not, the original source used is directly from one of the two clubs involved in the player transfer, which is surely a stronger source than something from a media outlet.

I look forward to your reply. Kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 14:22, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@NikeCage68:, I've been waiting patiently a week for your reply, and I've noticed that you've repeated your above behaviour again here. Again I ask, why are you doing this? Kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 08:41, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This is a discussion we had a year ago:

Hi @NikeCage68:, I'd just like to bring something else to your attention; you are breaking a number of valid links with your edits. For example, have a look at this this edit:

 • You changed Michael Cusack to Michael Cusack. The latter is an article about an Irish teacher and founder of the GAA, born in 1847.
 • You changed Matt Smith to Matt Smith. The latter is a red link, there is no article at that page, unlike the former, which is the player's page.
 • You changed Max Wright to Max Wright. The latter is an article about an American actor.
 • You changed Max Green to Max Green. The latter is a disambiguation page.
 • You changed Ross Graham to Ross Graham. There is no need for disambiguation, since there is no article at Ross Graham.

Those were all examples in one single edit. Why are you changing these to link to invalid pages? TheMightyPeanut (talk) 06:11, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What is this, a lecture and or civilised conversation?? Now it is becoming annoying with this nonsesne which you now find "unacceptable". Mistakes happen all the time from other users. This is BECAUSE there could be one or more articles that have the same name. I check them up beforehand. I have done this to avoid confusions. Now, this is the end of this conversation. NikeCage68 (talk) 18:05, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, do you find it acceptable that after an edit, a link that previously worked is now pointing to an Irish teacher born in 1847???
Yes, mistakes happen, all of us make mistakes, but introducing 5 invalid links in one single edit is a bit much. How do you "check them up beforehand"? If you checked the links, you'd see which page they should link to. I'm just trying to figure out the way you're doing things, maybe there is a way to fine-tune your method to reduce the introduction of errors. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 23:31, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Now, a year on, look at this article, following some of your edits.

Before that edit, all links to player articles were correct. With your edit, you broke these correct links, replacing them with:

 • Ollie Hoskins, a disambiguation page
 • Blair Cowan, a disambiguation page
 • Scott Steele, an article about an American sailor
 • Bryce Campbell, an article about an Australian rules footballer

Why do you keep on making these edits, that leave articles in a much worse state than they were before? I will treat edits like that as vandalism from now on, since I have spoken to you about these before, and you seem unwilling to change and ensure you are more careful in your edits. List of 2019–20 Pro14 transfers

[edit]

@NikeCage68: it was agreed some time ago that transfers should be in chronological order by date announced, regardless of whether the player is moving to a new club, retiring or being released, yet you persist with moving players who have been released by their club to the end of their relevant section, thereby disrupting the order by date. If you feel the method of organising the players should be changed, seek a consensus on the talk page, rather than ignoring the accepted method. Hello, NikeCage68. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Jack Stanley".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc, db-draft, or db-g13 code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Dan Lancaster

[edit]

Hi there NikeCage68, I've asked for your participation in the discussion on the Premiership transfers talk page over Dan Lancaster, given he departed Leicester during the 21/22 season, he shouldn't be included in the 22/23 Premiership list, if you can give your reasoning for continued revertions in the discussion that would be good, otherwise I may possibly have to take this further for vandalism. Best wishes and thanks for your edits. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 19:19, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated removal of cited content at List of 2023–24 United Rugby Championship transfers

[edit]

You have twice removed cited information I added at List of 2023–24 United Rugby Championship transfers. That's Disruptive editing. In between, an anonymous IP editor made the exact same removals. If that was you, that's sockpuppetry. Restore those edits, or I will report you for both. As per Wikipedia:Ownership of content, "No one, no matter what, has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular article (or any part of it)." Nicknack009 (talk) 15:40, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Strike that. The first time was another editor, so I have no reason to think the IP was you. Apologies for the confusion, I misread the edit history. But the content is cited and verifiable, and removing it is still disruptive editing. The only possible reason I can discern for the removal was that I manually wrote the citations and didn't use a citation template. Citation templates are not compulsory, and not liking the way a citation is formatted is no reason to remove valid content. I suggest you restore it.
