Information icon Hello, I'm Grayfell. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to 2017 Berkeley protests have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think a mistake was made, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to The Young Turks. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. Shellwood (talk) 06:39, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one or more of your recent edits to Cupcakke has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 22:25, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey ParadiseDesertOasis8888! I reverted your edit at Zara Larsson because that particular section has been somewhat controversial in the past. If you wish to have it changed it is best to discuss the changes you want to make at the article's talk page first so that we can establish consensus. I noticed you changed "Glencoe" to "Blencoe" on the article Portland Public Schools (Oregon). this district website, it seems to be written Glencoe. Where were you getting the source for it being Blencoe?

Casualties in Las Vegas

[edit]

ParadiseDesertOasis8888, why did you change the number of casualties at 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting from 59 to 58? The 58 number is from older articles. All of the most recent reporting says 59 people killed in the shooting. Adding the perpetrator's suicide makes 60 fatalities. Please don't change this again unless you have some more recent source saying the reported number of fatalities has been DECREASED by one. Thanks. --MelanieN (talk) 04:04, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake, I just heard the sheriff confirm 58 victims plus the perpetrator = 59. Sorry to bother you. --MelanieN (talk) 04:58, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
ParadiseDesertOasis8888 I, mostly, agree with MelanieN, BUT, if you change a figure, you should say why in your edit summary and it should be cited. (See WP: Verifiability)
So just changing the figure is not really acceptable unless the source has also been updated, or replaced with another one that supports the change.
Re your WP:good faith edit here to my update to Paradise, Nevada, note that I was deliberately vague about the exact number of injured because I was quite sure it would change, and it did, downwards. It is now 489, as sourced here. See Wikipedia:Verifiability not truth. Happy editing! Regards, 220 of Borg 05:09, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image use

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload files. However, it appears that one or more of the files you have uploaded or added to a page, specifically Flags of cities of the United States, may fail our non-free policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted file of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free criteria. Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them, and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles, nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. 115.164.190.108 (talk) 14:21, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Flag of Long Beach, California for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Flag of Long Beach, California is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Flag of Long Beach, California until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. power~enwiki (π, ν) 02:52, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sunnyvale Flag

[edit]

You asked about the Sunnyvale flag. When the city's logo changed to the green and white circular logo, its flag changed accordingly. But I was unable to find any images of the new flag in action, sorry. JGriffithSV (talk) 07:42, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:18, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding additional articles to this category while it is being considered for deletion. Please see in particular WP:NOTDEFINING. General Ization Talk 03:01, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not bolden the word "stop" when this is a first-time offense. From Wikipedia:Civility: "Try not to get too intense. Passion can be misread as aggression, so take great care to avoid the appearance of being heavy-handed or bossy. Nobody likes to be bossed about by an editor who appears to believe that they are "superior"; nobody likes a bully." and "Be careful with user warning templates. Be careful about issuing templated messages to editors you're currently involved in a dispute with, and exercise caution when using templated messages for newcomers (see Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers). Consider using a personal message instead of, or in addition to, the templated message." Also, remember to assume good faith and not bite the newcomer (or in this case, someone with significantly less edits/experience than you. ParadiseDesertOasis8888 (talk) 03:21, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The use of bold on the word "stop" is neither an attack nor aggression. It is a call for you to stop a particular editing action that you are engaging in when your previous 30-odd exercises of that action have been reverted (and you have no doubt noted that they were). I also directed you to the particular policy that addresses that action. You are also not a "newbie" after more editing here for more than a year and 3000+ edits. I did not call your good faith into question. General Ization Talk 03:27, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was warned originally after adding all but two pages to the category. I added the other two before I realized that the others had been removed from the category (you can even see that I reverted one of my own edits after I realized that the others had been removed). It wasn't done in a rebellious way. Also, by assuming that I knew I wasn't supposed to add them after the first warning, you are calling my good faith into question. Lastly, I wasn't calling you aggressive, the section of the article that I quoted said passion that may be interpreted as aggression. I don't think you were trying to be aggressive, you're just passionate about Wikipedia. I'm sure that you've had to deal with a lot of people who add categories without good intentions and you may have just assumed that I'm one of them. ParadiseDesertOasis8888 (talk) 04:46, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's all good then. I suggest, however, that you participate in the discussion about which you were notified above, either to contest the deletion of the category or to acknowledge that you now understand why it may be deleted. General Ization Talk 04:51, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also be aware that the notification message is a requirement when listing something for discussion. It is also added automatically by the script that makes up the WP:TWINKLE editing help package that I used to tag the category, start the discussion on the discussion page and notify the creator of the item in question that a discussion is taking place. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:31, 30 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Annales de Gergonne

In the article Nimes, the section "Culture" mentions the Annales de Gergonne, which is a mathematical journal. By inserting a pipe you have directed the link to scientific journal. Sourced genre should be bold and go through with your edit; sometimes editing is a way to start a discussion about something. The important point is to not ignore notes in the infobox (as you did before), which signify that the genres are already established, and it is good practice to check the talk page of an article to see if the changes your propose haven't already been discussed. 183.171.114.43 (talk) 08:55, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All of the sources I've seen use #GuaidoChallenge, which is why I changed it. I didn't look at Instagram but if that's what's trending, then it probably should be #guaidochallenge. ParadiseDesertOasis8888 (talk) 02:50, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks ... so, do you mind if I change it back? I am not that familia with Instagram, but it appears that all hashtags are lower case, so I am unsure here ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:31, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you can change it back. I'm not that familiar with Instagram either. ParadiseDesertOasis8888 (talk) 04:44, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think I will first look at some other articles on hashtags ... it is possible that it makes no difference! Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:46, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Found! Our article on hashtag says they are not case sensitive. Which means that your usage (GuaidoChallenge) probably makes more sense, because it is more readable, and ends up at the same place as all lowercase. So thanks! Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:49, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please read this notification carefully, it contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. 2019–20 Wuhan coronavirus outbreak

[edit]

Hi your update of the China count was undone as you failed to take into account Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. These are listed separately here. To use a figure from the web site used as a ref, you have to subtract the numbers given for 台湾 澳门 and 香港. These may not match the numbers in our article, due to it being out of date. User:Graeme Bartlett, Hello, I used the source for China (https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/01/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/) which says there have been 1,985 cases, including 10 in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Eugene Gu article

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

You keep restoring the Category:American rapists to the Eugene Gu article. Here's what WP:BLPCAT says: "... Category:Criminals and its subcategories should be added only for an incident that is relevant to the person's notability; the incident was published by reliable third-party sources; the subject was convicted; and the conviction was not overturned on appeal." It is arguable whether or not the sexual assault allegations against Gu are relevant to his notability. What is not arguable is that the article text currently makes no claim and cites no source to the effect that Gu has been arrested for or charged with, let alone convicted of, rape or any other type of sexual assault. Thus, the category's addition is inappropriate. Please stop adding it back to the article. --Mox La Push (talk) 04:41, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for notifying me. Since he was never convicted, I have instead added a different category. Here is the edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eugene_Gu&diff=940877922 -- ParadiseDesertOasis8888 (talk) 05:08, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regional languages in the United States

[edit]

I had to revert your list of regional languages. The list was already debated several times on the Talk page for United States. Each time, it has been rejected for the following reason: There are no "recognized regional languages" at the national level. In certain states (Native languages in Alaska, Oklahoma, and South Dakota; Spanish in New Mexico; French in Louisiana, which you omitted), languages other than English have a very limited administrative function -- much like services offered in eastern Belgium for German speakers. You'll have to take this to the U.S. Talk page and explain why the list is helpful. Thanks. Mason.Jones (talk) 16:28, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. Thank you. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 04:08, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people.
