Sorry if i made a mistake, like i said on the IPs talk page, my first thoughts were that he was blanking (Vandalism). I've crossed out the warning appropriately. Like i said before, i'm sorry if i caused an inconvienience. DJ MeXsTa (talk) 17:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Huh? Where did I get close to breaking 3RR? I've only undid one edit, and the guy I undid apologized to me for calling my edit vandalism. This is a wacky place. 65.124.139.66 (talk) 17:37, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dude. I am an admin. I'm on a public computer in a library is all, and don't want to log in. I understand the rules very well, and if another admin decided that I was "close to 3RR" and blocked me, he/she would end up at WP:AN. I haven't even edited any article more than once, except Desmon Farmer, in which the guy that "warned me for vandalism" retracted his warning after he actually read what I freeking edited. Sheesh. No wonder new users/IP editors complain about this place. 65.124.139.66 (talk) 17:42, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hereby confirm that I requested access to the ACC tool. neuro(talk) 00:43, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ACC tool access request approved

[edit]

Thank you for your interest in the account creation process. I have verified that you have signed the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information and approved your request.

You may now access the interface here. Before you begin handling requests, please ensure you have read and understood the account creation guide and username policy to familiarize yourself with the process.

Please subscribe yourself to the private ACC mailing list following the instructions on that page. I also advise that you also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and you can get real time advice on how to handle requests.

Please note failure to correctly assess requests will result in suspension of tool access. Account creation is not a race, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Releasing personally identifying information (such as IP and email addresses), whether intentionally or unintentionally, is treated very seriously and will generally result in immediate suspension.

Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, and you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked as "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Account creator.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! Stwalkerstertalk ] 16:20, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You, you're difficult, with your "rule of law" and "copyright ownership."

I'll scare something up, or have someone competent do it.

That said, in the same way that boilerplate tags are no per se sufficient to establish fair use, given user turnover we could have higher-quality content if users tagging images gave some thought to establishing rationale themselves.

I don't mean to be snarky. It's a serious suggestion.

Thanks for the heads-up. Cheers!

Thanks again for the heads-up. However, last I checked, the .sig transclusion admonition was a strong suggestion rather than an actual prohibition - something like "should not" vs. "may not." I asked a dev about it way back when, to get verification that it doesn't actually cause a significant drain on Wikipedia server resources. If you can produce someone who can tell me for sure "yes, this is a real problem" I'll fix it.
However, at the time, the concern was that pages would be re-rendered every time I changed my .sig (since, as it was explained to me, it's rendered once, not on every load.) I haven't changed it since I switched over. So the concern became "*grumble* I wrote code to stop you from being able to do that!" *grumble* with a final disposition of "whatev', go forth and never change your .sig."
As I've said before, if I update it, it will be a new transclusion, resulting in no re-rendering. The other concern is that if my acc't is compromised, every page I've ever commented on can be defaced. Since I can barely remember my own password, the intruder would have to have an unusual level of insight into the workings of Wiki*.
I genuinely don't mean to be difficult. This issue comes up about twice a year, I give this response, it goes away, and the cycle is complete. Believe me, I don't shoot the messengers, as they inevitably have good intentions (well, maybe one guy just wanted to be a jerk, but it wasn't you.)

Next time, you may want to wait a bit longer before NAC-closing an article as a keep WP:NAC recommends you wait until a day has passed in the AFD and that at least six valid keep !votes (with no other !vote) are present. Also, it wouldn't be a speedy keep per se, as the nomination was not vexatious or in bad faith (see WP:SK), but it was certainly going to be a snowball keep. Absolute Power (album) -> Typo Fix of Villians/Villains

[edit]

You recently went through and fixed an assumed typo on the Absolute Power (album) article. You changed "57th Street Rogue Dog Villians" to "57th Rogue Dog Villains." While I can understand the need to go through and fix things that appear to be typos in an effort to improve the overall quality of Wikipedia, this however isn't a case of a typo. That is the name of a rap group, and "Villians" is how they spell their name, as this is how it appears both in the credits for this album but also on their own albums. Back around June of 2007, there was a bot that ran through both the Misery Loves Kompany & Celcius (album) articles which are albums by the same artist as the one you changed which feature the same groups name. I just thought I would inform you of the intentional misspelling of "Villians" in the "57th Street Rogue Dog Villians" name for future reference. - Mizery Made (talk) 19:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC) Reply. neuro(talk) 16:26, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Check history before rolling back

[edit]

Neurolysis, there's a bit of a to-do over at AN/I about your handling of a new editor at Howard Rich (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). (Discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Howard Rich.)

I'm troubled by the vandalism warnings that you issued to OrangeStaple (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) along with the reverts that you made: [4], [5], [6].

The effect of your reverts seemed to undo a lot more than just the formatting errors which you described as vandalism. (Frankly, I think that the errors were innocent mistakes of an editor unfamiliar with wikimarkup and the Manual of Style, and didn't deserve to be tagged as vandalism.) It looks like you were – likely inadvertently – engaging in a revert war over content in a BLP. Your views would be most helpful in the AN/I discussion. Thanks, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 19:49, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gorean

[edit]

Hi Neuro. I have read through the guidelines and such that you sent me before, and better understand the guidelines for wiki. I have been in contact with a couple of the other contributors to the Gorean article, and looking to rewrite some of what is there and place citations for them. The problem is that you stated in a previous message to me that a geocity site could not be used. I could not find anything in the guidelines that prevents this, though understandable that it is not prefered. There are currently two Geocity sites by Gorean Philosophers that need to be used as citations in a couple of locations, do you have any recommendations for this? Also, the Second Life link on that page seems to have been put there to advertise for that group, is there a reason to allow it to remain or how should that one be handled? I looked all over, probably inadequately, to try and find some guidelines in wiki that would answer these. If it is too much trouble for assistance, I understand everyone's time is limited but if you could at least point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 21:28, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message regarding this image. I think it has some permission information on it, but maybe the format is not correct. I uploaded the image for User:PraeceptorIP, upon request. He is a law professor teaching.. copyright law, so I am sure a reasonable permission tag can be inserted after discussing this with him. Thanks. Cheers, --Edcolins (talk) 19:43, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply.
Please take a look at the Gator-Amaz image page with updated comment. If you would like to suggest an appropriate permission tag to use instead of all of that text, I think that would be great. -- PraeceptorIP (talk) 21:39, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Neurolysis. I have no objection to your providing a copyright tag and fair use rationale. Before I saw your message, I took a shot at it. But feel free to supply a more appropriate one.
BTW, on anorther note, the following cases on analytic dissection, among dozens of similar cases, hold that functional material does not "count" in an infringement analysis: Data East USA, Inc. v. Epyx, Inc., 862 F.2d 204 (9th Cir. 1988) (video game case); Computer Associates International, Inc. v. Altai, Inc., 982 F.2d 693 (2d Cir. 1992) (computer program case); Gates Rubber Co. v. Bando Chemical Industries, Ltd., 9 F.3d 823 (10th Cir. 1993) (computer program case). See also 17 USC sec. 102(b), which excludes functionality from copyright protection because it is properly the province of patent law. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PraeceptorIP (talkcontribs) 04:21, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
