Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Natl1/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Geniac 13:33, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should not have created this article, which is basically an advert. See WP:SPAM#How_not_to_be_a_spammer particularly "review your intentions" for guidelines. It's obvious that the article was submitted for promotional purposes, and as such, it should have been rejected. I've nominated it for speedy but if that doesn't fly, then I'll see about putting a deletion request through the afc submission process. That ought to be interesting. The submitter has also been spamming extlinks all over wikipedia and I've cleaned some of them up and left him or her a note. 67.117.130.181 11:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion tags

[edit]

When nominating articles for speedy deletion please be sure to give a reason why the article is a candidate. Here are the criteria for speedy deletion. The corresponding templates are at the bottom of the page.--Joe Jklin (T C) 21:38, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you tagged the page I created for speedy deletion. Before you add any tag for speedy deletion, wait for a little while, I had created the page 2 minutes before your tag and was in the process of adding more information. I have gone ahead and removed the tag, because it is irrelevant. If you have any questions or concerns, leave me a message on my talk page.

I see that you have done this quite a few times before. Give the users time to add information especially if it is a new page. Otherwise, I will have to bring this to the attention of the admins.

Mail Order Ninja

[edit]

Hey Natl1. I just wanted to let you know that I thought that Mail Order Ninja was quite notable because it won the Rising Stars of Manga contest. Also, when I went on to see the rules about Notability, I noticed that many people were debating whether it should even be a rule or not. I don't think that we should use that rule until Wikipedia as a whole has a majority of people who think it's a good rule. For these reasons, I just redid the page. Please don't delete the page unless you can give a good reason for its deletion. Thank you! ( By the way, it's funny that you deleted the page so quickly. I swear it took thrity seconds. Oh well.)

Deletion?

[edit]

I'm sorry, but I didn't delete an article called "Golden Highway" (this page has apparently never been deleted?)Borisblue 02:36, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting to see deleted article Rusty Kane because it has been submitted at AfC and I want to compare the deleted version to the submitted version. Please leave a message at User talk:Natl1. --Natl1 23:34, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can see the text at User:Natl1/Rusty Kane. I will delete the temporary page tomorrow (Sunday 17th December) at 2000 GMT, unless you have a specific objection. (aeropagitica) 00:13, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Google earth edit

[edit]

Just checking as to what was not suitable about my comment about the wikipedia links on google earth. this is my first time putting any content in wiki...-- User talk:159.124.100.13

  • I reverted your edit to Google Earth because Wikipedia is not a place to publish your own thoughts and analyses. See WP:NOT#OR. Even thought Wikipedia may link to Google Earth inaccuratly, it is obvious that you researched this yourself and that it was not reserched by any other reference. --Natl1 21:45, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to VandalProof!

[edit]

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Natl1! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. Prodego talk 16:53, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The three paragraphs that I removed were clearly the work of vandals. Please refrain from reverting unless you've verified that the removal of text is, in fact, vandalism. SoCalAlum 20:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am not experimenting and actually adding information. I believe my changes should not have been reverted. I am adding geography and also providing references. The development section is actually below further down. That unknown user has copied it again, and so I deleted it. Agree? Mlpkr 20:35, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert my deletion of a section? There is a discussion page entry in which I justified my action, and it seems that you did not even read it judging by the speed with which you reverted it. And if you did, please provide your reasoning.

  • As requested, here's my entry in the talk page, along with someone else's from months ago, which no one has rebutted since.
Supercharging has little meaning when applied to jet engines. The compressor has more to do with compression rather than overfilling the chambers. Although the parts are similar the application is totally different and I don't see how it can be called supercharging in the same sense because the engine wont run at all without a compressor. I think the section should be removed or qualified.--=Motorhead 03:32, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, the concept of supercharging in the context of jet engines is 100% redundant and nonsensical. I'm deleting the section. The "super" in supercharging means "above" something, and that "something" is the ambient air density that a naturally aspirated piston engine is supplied with from the atmosphere. Of course there are no naturally aspirated jet engines, as the compressor is an integral part of their basic function. Vessbot 20:28, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
In the future, please look at the background debate behind an issue before jumping the trigger. You could have easily found it with a search for my username in the talkpage.

VP - slight concern

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for helping us clean up vandalism with WP:VPRF! I noticed that you aren't on the Recently Approved list and you aren't in the IRC channel for VP2. How are you making these edits? Have you just been approved for longer than the recent list shows, or are you not really using VP? Remember that running unauthorized bots in against policy and may result in a block. Thanks for helping out with the vandalism! ST47Talk 13:41, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, looks like you fell off the list :( I noticed that you were reverting some edits by Jmax, removing too many links on an article. Just looking at the diffs can be misleading, the edit summary is rather important, and if you revert someone on a not-sure case, and they do it again, I like getting a sec0ond opinion on the edit. Thanks, and good luck! ST47Talk 13:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

this was intentional, please revert your revert. I'm honestly a little worried that perhaps your forceful use of VP is scaring off the new users. Please be more kind in the future, and don't forget to assume good faith! -- Jmax- 13:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry -- I was under the impression that your edit was a mistake; apologies. I will go through and check each link to assure they are not useful or government agencies, and will remove the appropriate ones -- Jmax- 14:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith when dealing with other editors. See Wikipedia:Assume good faith for the guidelines on this. Please also be careful when using vandalism warnings. Only clear, obvious vandalism qualifies for use of the vandalism warning templates. It's also quite improper to revert an edit where the editor is following a request template left on the page. --Kind Regards - Heligoland | Talk | Contribs 14:53, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aquamania

[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your comment on my talk page! My edit to Aquamania was in fact reverting vandalism by 72.152.113.250 -- there has been a lot of vandalism by anonymous IPs to that particular article for some reason. (As you can see from its history). I can assure you that the information I removed was completely factually wrong. --Bonadea 22:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The GA has been on hold for a while now -- two weeks, as of tomorrow. There were some irregularities, and of course the holidays, but I'd like to clear it. I declined the speedy deletion request for this article because streets aren't covered under A7. Try sending it to AFD. --Coredesat 23:09, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Alpharetta Elementary School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. — Swpb talk contribs 03:40, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The idea behind the prod tag is that it is useful for non-controversial pages which don't meet speedy deletion requirements. As the page exists currently, notability is not asserted per WP:SCHOOL, and I strongly doubt many editors without a conflict of interest would vote to keep it. If the prod tag is removed and/or significant changes to the content are made, then there would likely be enough controversy to warrant an AfD, but I feel at this point that an AfD would be a waste of editors' time. — Swpb talk contribs 20:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Though, if you disagree, there is nothing stopping you from taking it to AfD. — Swpb talk contribs 20:58, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Campeonato Brasileiro

[edit]

Hi Natl, seems like you've got some job with this Ragnarok troll. Not only he reverted again but deleted your warning from his talk page. Actually welcome to the club, YOU are now the pseuso-admin troll one. :-) Seems like this fellow is obsessed of "alternative" views as shown by his defense of a satanic Ubuntu linux version to counterweight the christian edition... I guess he would defend the right to say that the world is square and flat.

Hi Natl, thanks so far for the support. It helped to quiet for one week but you see this is no easy task as he resumed 1) though finally discussing he's not bringing any argument and is ignoring previous discussions and 2) even making a revert war with you on his own talk page !... I would say that there is pretty much evidence so as to refer him to some blocking procedure. 21JuL74 14:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rehi, Natl. Seems like Ragnarok is indeed aggressive. Instead of asking for mediation he went directly for a request for blocking the page, which he obtained. I would ask you could show Husond, the admin, that there was a due process going or please tell what I would need to do. Regards, 21JuL74 23:13, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing: as I supposed , this Ragnarok has asked for vandalism alert on me despite not even following any warning procedure. I guess it won't work if wiki is reasonable and follow the rules, though I surprised that his request for blocking the page was quickly accepted (I guess thatś what I should have done first place...). Can you help if you don't want to get in this mess with an admin contact taht could unprotect the page and well, really report his attitude and eventually block him (i wouldn't call vandalism as this can be a dispute content but his methods are borderline vandal and always turning thinsgs around to look like a victim)  ? Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. Coca Cola

[edit]

Hi Natl1,

The word "however" implies that there would be some kind of contradiction between the two sentences, but there isn't one. The second one just goes to further explain the first. So I wasn't sure eithe the word however needs to be removed or there is a "not" missing in the first sentence.

Maybe that's just me, but I think those senteces sound kind of weird right now.

BTW, great work on that article and I was glad to see you put some of my suggestions into action.

The fact that it comes up with no hits on google in a worry - cos normally a simple chemical name will be found on a suppliers website. Anyway I checked the main supplier in the UK - sigma aldrich - again no luck with name or structure!.

And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable

Thank you for your support in my recent RfA. I think valid criticisms were raised in areas that I need to work on, so I've withdrawn my name. Request for advocacy

[edit]

I'm requesting advocacy. Please let me know if I'm handling the request procedure properly. Discovery Communications appears to be favorably editing the Wikipedia entry on The Discovery Channel, which is owned by them. Specifically, a Discovery Communications IP address has "re-worked" the Discovery Channel entry to be significantly more favorable to Discovery Communications, most notably (and most ironically) by removing the reference to Discovery's reputation for guerrilla marketing. Here's the side-by-side comparison of the Discovery edits: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discovery_Channel&diff=next&oldid=97844967 . You'll notice the IP address that made that alteration is: 198.147.10.56 , which belongs to Discovery Communications: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=198.147.10.56 . This edit was likely due to a negative article that was published about Discovery, which exposed their guerrilla marketing tactics. The article is available here: http://spankmymarketer.com/the-learning-channel.html . The pro-Discovery changes to the Wikipedia entry were made shortly after the publication of that article.

I have put information on this in the article's talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Discovery_Channel . However, I haven't edited the article itself.

Discovery Communications is clearly involved in guerrilla marketing. There are numerous credible articles on the web about this. All that's necessary to verify this is to go to Google and enter "Discovery Communications" and "guerrilla marketing". I have spoken on the phone with Anthony Lupo, who is representing Discovery through the law firm of Arent Fox, LLP. He insists that it's not at all against Wikipedia rules, and that their actions are perfectly legitimate. Seems ludicrous to me. Any help at all in reconciling this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --71.212.187.150 21:38, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]
Word of thanks for Natl1
Good morning (GMT time); I'd like to thank you for supporting, opposing, taking a neutral stance to, closing, suggesting I close or otherwise contributing to my recent RfA; unfortunately, I felt that although there were more support than oppose votes, the weight of the latter was too great for me to accept the promotion with so many not trusting me with the janitor's trolley -
I therefore decided to end my nomination prematurely. The feedback I received was invaluable, and I am striving to start afresh with all of the advice my fellow Wikipedians offered. In order to meet the aim of adapting to your advice, I've drew up a list of aims (located here) which I intend to follow from this point onwards. at my talk page where it will be graciously and humbly accepted. Once again, thank you and I do hope to bump into you around the encyclopedia!

I hope this is just some sort of bug with your browser? Because adding hundreds of bytes of text in place of the interwiki links isn't part of the rfa requirements. Picaroon

Hi, your addition of your RfA to WP:RfA was breaking the non-latin characters in the interwiki links. I reverted it and then added your RfA myself. ViridaeTalk 00:03, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Garion96's RFA

[edit]

Thank you for your support in my request for adminship which closed successfully last night. Feel free to let me know if I can help you with something or if I have made a mistake. I would also like to encourage you to vote often (just in case you don't) on other candidates since we need more admins. Happy editing, Garion96 (talk) 00:07, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VegaDark's Request for Adminship

[edit]
Natl1/Archive 1

Thank you for supporting my RfA. It was successful at a unanimous 52/0/0. I hope I can live up to the kind words expressed of me there, and hope to now be more of an asset to the community with access to the tools. Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any suggestions for me in the future. Thanks again! VegaDark 06:50, 16 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Heya

[edit]

Hi Natl1. I've opposed your RFA because I think you need a little more experience, and I'm a little concerned that you aren't aware what a tough job adminship can (sometimes) be. Please, don't take it too personally. The areas that would be good to have addressed are:

  1. How will you deal with conflict (as an admin, you can't always avoid it).
  2. How do you deal with fair use images (another issue I've brought up in my oppose).

Ta bu shi da yu 04:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I supported, but users who oppose should give a reason as the above user did. Cascading oppose (e.g. Oppose per XXX.) votes usually end up killing an RFAs chance to pass. I'm sure if you address these concerns you'll have no problem passing next time. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, odometer) 13:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

[edit]

I don't entirely understand your reasoning here; could you explain, please? Yuser31415 20:40, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are certainly entitled to your opinion on RfAs; I am not going to challenge that. However, I want to point out a few things:
  • At this time, the user would use the tools in good faith, but not necessarily the right way. An example of this might be blocking a user indefinitely for making a test edit, protecting a page during a content dispute, et cetera. Admins need to be (a) trustable, (b) civil, and (c) knowledgeable. Hope this clarifies, Yuser31415 21:02, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Message

[edit]

Thanks for leaving me a message on my talk page telling me of your unfortunate failure. I beleive if you take those points and use them often and well it won't be long untill you are sysop. Jhfireboy I'm listening 13:23, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your positive attitude :) Wish you the best of luck in your next RfA, dear. PeaceNT 13:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I third that. Yuser31415 19:22, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Me too, I supported but, not enough people did. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, odometer) 02:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AMA

[edit]

Can you please explain what AMA is and how I can be a member, if I beleive it is something I can help with? Thanks. Jhfireboy I'm listening 13:26, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AMA, perhaps :)? Yuser31415 19:22, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

[edit]

Hi, Natl1, I just wanted to thank you for your support on my RfA, which was successful with a final tally of 61/0/2. You said you couldn't wait for me to be an admin; well, you needn't anymore. :-) Seriously, I'm glad you were excited to support me and hope my use of the tools continues to justify your excitement. If you have any comments about my use of the tools I would be glad to hear from you on my talk page. Thanks again! Heimstern Läufer 04:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA proposition

Princeton Minnesota

[edit]

To whoever it may concern,

I need to talk to you about the Princeton Minnesota section on Wikipedia. Recently, (JarBArf) [a believed wikipedia employee] has deleted the entire section of trivia on Princeton, Minnesota which has 100% credibility. In addition, he is also deleting various statements that will give people a better idea of Princeton.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.38.74.229 (talkcontribs).

My RfA

[edit]

My request for adminship has closed successfully (79/0/1), so it appears that I am now an administrator. Thanks very much for your vote of confidence. If there's anything I can ever do to help, please don't hesitate to let me know. IrishGuy talk 02:50, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

[edit]

Hi, Natl1. Just thought I'd come down and say a personal thanks for you support at my RfA. Firstly, to answer your question (it may have been rhetorical anyway!): "How did you write 205 article being active in WP:RCP?" – well, I do believe it is called addiction! I take pleasure in writing new articles, but equally, take the same pride in protecting others' creations from corruption, misinformation, and poop. Secondly, you do a lot of good work yourself on this here encyclopedia so probably understand this desire to improve it above all else. Keep up the good work, never lose the faith, and the next time you go "to that place", I'm sure you will be successful. :) Bubba hotep 20:37, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed RfA nomination

[edit]

Natl1, many thanks for your offer to nominate me for RfA. I'm afraid that there are still many mini-projects I have on the boil article-wise that I'd like to try and get out of the way before I seriously consider it, however. My feeling is that I might not do it justice right now. If the offer stays open I'd like to see how I'm placed in a couple of months or so. Very sincere thanks again. Cheers, Ian Rose 14:42, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You helped choose Atmosphere as this week's WP:ACID winner

[edit]
Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.
This week Atmosphere was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help.

Re:Re:WP:IFU cky singles covers

Pardon my stupidity, I was not familiar with the fair use policy regarding album covers. Thank you for catching that mistake. ffm yes? 00:32, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I am short on time, could you upload it for me? Thanks! ffm yes? 00:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
