Shalalth1a.jpg deletion?

I had a look at CSDFD8 and don't understand what's missing; advisories should be more specific. This is a family picture, donated by me, who inherited the copyright from my father (d. 1972). It's in the Commons already and in the public domain by my donation. Please explain what's missing, it's not clear to me at all. Unless this is only being deleted from Wikipedia because it's available in the Commons. I find a lot of image-deletion, including in the Commons, to be highly obscurantist and strange; nit-picking without explaining what the nit is, or where to pick.Skookum1 (talk) 03:32, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the confusion. The file is to be deleted because an identical copy is available at the Commons. What happened was you uploaded the file to Wikipedia and released it to the public domain. Subsequently, someone tagged it with a {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} template. Later on, I copied the local file to the Commons. While the file is at the Commons, any Wikimedia project can use it, so there is no longer any need for the local file. Once the local copy is deleted, the file at the Commons will automatically take its place. This deletion is solely housekeeping work. Your contribution won't be erased! :) Michaelzeng7 (talk) 03:49, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
In other words, the file has been transferred to the Wikimedia Commons. Where it sits happily now. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 19:50, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Note: The local file was deleted by an administrator at 5:06. See deletion log. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 19:54, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Michaelzeng7 Yes, i was making a test. I made a mistake doing it on that page. I am sorry. Thank for the quick response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.171.26.114 (talk) 20:12, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Harold Hopkins Miranda- reference

Hi, my name is Harold Hopkins Miranda, I recently contributed with my own biography, read by you, but it has been put out because of lack of "reliable reference". There are some press references and a lot of external links. Should I add the external links as references too? Thanks. Bajoboricua (talk) 10:01, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for performing the merge of Dubai Properties into Dubai Properties Group following the close of the AfD discussion for Dubai Properties as merge. Northamerica1000(talk) 11:41, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Michael. I understand your points. The article was cleaned up, edited and expanded by journalist Hermes Ayala, he is from Puerto Rico though, so the english might not be perfect still. There is a more neutral point of view. Please review it. Bear with me on my first article. I want to eventually contribute more to wikipedia, specially on the area of music from Puerto Rico. I have read a few bios on wiki of other musicians including other members of Puya and some other friends of mine. It is pretty interesting. Thanks for the help.Bajoboricua (talk) 16:46, 26 July 2013 (UTC).

Adding the Mobile software category

Hello. I've undone this edit of yours that added Category:Mobile software to the Tile App article. Because the article is already in Category:iOS software which is a subcategory of Mobile software, having it in both categories would be redundant.--Rockfang (talk) 02:04, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. When Category:Apps was merged into Category:Mobile software, I added the latter. I didn't realize iOS software was a subcategory. Thanks for the notice! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 02:07, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

I just read through the Miss Asia pacific World article. And it is filled with biased material made by obviously pro-pageant users. Or even officials for the pageant it seems. For example one sentence says that the pageant is known for the BBCs mishandling of the 2011 "scandal" which is 100% biased information just to mention one strange thing about this article. I also notice that the article has excessive amounts of references for example one line has about 10 refs to it. I will trim the article down right now and when you come around to check it out feel free to add or remove further info. Thanks.--BabbaQ (talk) 12:34, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

I would give this article until a bit into 2014 and if it has not been improved by then I would suggest putting the entire article through the AfD process again. Right now I have a hard time finding anything notable about this particular pageant if you exclude a number of "scandals" and more or less non-notable winners. --BabbaQ (talk) 13:50, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
No comment. :) I'll continue to try and work on the article. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 13:52, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
You do that :)--BabbaQ (talk) 13:54, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

BITE

Please try not to bite the newbies, as you did here. The IP was trying to help by alerting us to an issue he noticed—he wasn't looking for you to correct him on the technical details of what happened, particularly in that tone. We're trying to attract new editors, not make them think we're mean and dismissive. ÷seresin 10:40, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

I apologize, I didn't realize my tone was inappropriate, and upon review I realize I was probably too dismissive. Thanks for letting me know about this, Michaelzeng7 (talk) 13:07, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Tile App

Hello, I see you removed the category: Category:Mobile_software from this page with the comment redundant category. I also noted the discussion on merging Category:Apps into Category:Mobile software. I am not clear why you felt that tagging with this category was redundant. I am curious.
Enquire (talk) 23:08, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Enquire. The "Mobile software" category was redundant to the pre-existing "IOS software" category. IOS software is a subcategory of Mobile software. Note that I was the one who added the category following the merger. User:Rockfang removed it and left a message on this talk page (scroll up). :) Michaelzeng7 (talk) 12:39, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your message. It's too early to consider deleting "Diana Lui" as I am far from done with the page! I am off for vacation and I can only take care of it in September. Can this wait? Thanks! Itcheemonkee Itcheemonkee (talk) 10:38, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. Now that you've added several references, the proposed deletion is now moot. I have removed the proposed deletion tag from the article. Try to keep improving the article, citing reliable sources as you go. Make sure the subject of the article is notable per Wikipedia guidelines for creative professionals. If the subject is not notable, then the article may be nominated for deletion again in the future. Thanks! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 16:36, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

AfD

I had a question regarding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Juanin Clay. If no users express any opinion, is the default move to keep or delete? Newjerseyliz (talk) 00:02, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I think what you want to read is WP:NOQUORUM. If few or no editors participate in a discussion, the nomination is closed at the best judgment of the closer. Usually, if no one objects to deletion, then the default outcome is delete. However, usually the nomination is relisted to a maximum of 2 times before any such action occurs. Sometimes, if a discussion receives only a few opinions, the nomination can be closed as no consensus with no prejudice against speedy renomination. This means that the article is kept for now, but anyone can speedily renominate it if they want to. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 03:10, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Michael, that answers my question. I've been coming across a number of obscure entertainers who seem non-notable (just a smattering of small film roles) and I doubt that many editors will care enough to come forward to argue either for a keep or a delete. Before introducing future AfDs, I just wanted to know if a lack of interest was enough to forestall a deletion. I have no problem with relisting and anticipate this might occur with other AfD in the area I've been working in. I appreciate your help, thanks! Newjerseyliz (talk) 12:50, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Have you considered having them go through WP:PROD? Michaelzeng7 (talk) 13:56, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
I tried a PROD (speedy deletion tag?) on Brenda Venus (my first proposed deletion) and it got removed the same day. That was weeks ago and the RfD has still not been decided. I guess I need to read more on what qualifies an article for a tag and use them when appropriate. Thanks for the suggestion. Newjerseyliz (talk) 13:59, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Valid reasons for deletion are listed at the deletion policy. Any article can be PRODed for any one of those reasons, but only once. Once a tag has been applied and removed, you can't use PROD again. You would have to send it to AfD instead. Looking at your AfD, it looks like you've acquainted yourself with notability pretty well. I see that one editor thinks that the article shouldn't be deleted, and that's probably why the PROD tag was removed. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 14:11, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Clarification: There is no limit on how many times you can send an article to AfD. However, the PROD process can only be tried once. Michaelzeng7 (talk) 14:13, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Alexander Guttenplan - Improper speedy deletion

Hi,

I'm not too familiar with the speedy deletion process, so I may be wrong, but I was just looking back through the edits to that page, and it seems that the second edit to the page was the addition of a speedy deletion request by Mr. Vernon. The next edit is ColonelWarden, and it looks like he just went ahead and removed the speedy deletion tag. Is that allowed? Is that what clicking the contest button does automatically? Theres nothing on the talk page about it, although there is discussion of a later speedy delete requested by an ip user. Unfortunately the admin who responded to that is retired now, so I am asking you instead. Also, the creation of that page by ColonelWarden is marked as "restore content". Does that mean that the article existed before, and then was deleted, and then ressurected by ColonelWarden?

Sorry theres so many questions in one post, but thanks in advance for answers ^_^. Benboy00 (talk) 21:57, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to point out explicitly that ColonelWarden seems to be the creator of the page, which is why I question his authority to remove the Speedy Deletion request. Benboy00 (talk) 22:02, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

OK, I just looked through everything and here is what I think happened:
The page did exist before under the title "Alex Guttenplan". That page was deleted via the proposed deletion process. Warden then restored the page to where it is now. However, shortly after the page was recreated, Mr. Vernon (talk · contribs) tagged it for speedy deletion under criterion A7. Warden removed the tag.
You are correct that the creator of a page is not allowed remove a speedy deletion tag from the page they created. (See WP:CSD) They can only contest it on the talk page. However, this faux pas happened so long ago (June 2010 :P) that everyone has already moved on. I hope this answered your questions, Michaelzeng7 (talk) 16:33, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Why is this thus, and what is the reason for this thusness?

Smash!

You've been squished by a whale!
Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know you did something really silly.

You took the time slap someone with a trout, but not to;

- Help show them where they went wrong, as an "experienced editor" and "wanna-be admin" should,
- Address the problematic page in question yourself, that they were trying to fix,
- Respond to their request for follow-up info, instead of just leaving them hanging...

For all the above, a simple trout-slapping would not suffice, and thus you have been whale-squished.

But, all is good now. A helpful admin came along, dealt with the pesky page and also helped the user/fledgling article deleter.

Have a good day! - thewolfchild 13:44, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Privilege (law) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • States is protection from the requirement to testify or provide documents in certain situations. (See [[subpoena duces tecum]] and [[privilege (evidence)]].
