[edit]Hello, I'm Mx. Granger. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. —Granger (talk · contribs) 21:35, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Ms. Jennings' birthdate
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I want to apologize for my brusqueness in my revert messages: You're new, and I'm glad that you've joined us and decided to help!
Now, as for why I reverted this well-intended edit: The primary problem is that the tweet you cited doesn't say that it's her birthday; it says "Birthday girl 🎈" and has a picture of a young girl eating cake and wearing a birthday cap. True, it's a reasonable inference that she means herself, but, for all we know, she could be wishing her best friend a birthday. We are only rarely permitted to make inferences when writing articles. For details, see the policy on "original research". Second, even if the tweet could be cited for her birthday, it doesn't give her birth year. If you want to propose a different source (or try to persuade others that the tweet is permissible—I may be off base here), I strongly urge you to seek consensus on the article's talk page before adding it.
Also, regarding minor edits: please read the instructions (conveniently linked immediately next to the "minor edit" tick box) before you mark your edits as such. A minor edit is not synonymous with a small edit; rather, checking the box is your certification both that you haven't changed the page's meaning and that your edit isn't likely to be controversial. (There are some exceptions to this rule, such as reverting vandalism and correcting clear factual errors.) This edit was correctly marked as minor; this edit could have been marked as minor but wasn't; and this edit was wrongly marked as minor. It may seem like a small thing, but incorrectly asserting that a change is minor is seen by many editors as an attempt at deception.
Thank you for your time and patience, and I wish you the best. If you have any questions about this, feel free to reply here. If you want help with anything else, you're welcome to drop me a note on my talk page anytime. Rebbing 03:11, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
