Jerry Johnson

Continuing "hijinks" from an IP editor you have dealt with in the past
I stopped by to draw your attention to a potentially problematic IP editor [1] who you dealt with back in July of this year, in the form of a block. This individual's edits appear to consist of only two types. In one, they selectively convert capital letters appearing in an article to small case, which depending on the context, may or may not be appropriate. In the other type of edit, they are continuing the dubious practise of changing existing material in an article without either providing either a reference or an edit summary for rationalizing those changes. In at least one recent case, this took the form of the unreferenced altering of the material in a biography by adding what appears to be a nonsensical link to another article. A lot of these questionable edits are of the type that are potentially quite difficult to detect by many editors and thus the problem is compounded. I've noticed that this individual appears to spread out their edits over time and they also seem to vary the type of articles they are actually making these changes to, thus making it more difficult to both detect and control. I wonder if you could perhaps take a look at this situation and use your best judgement on the matter. Thank you for your time. 70.48.219.158 (talk) 20:22, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism
You had recently questioned my reverting of user 184.76.104.15 on the Chevrolet Corvette and calling it vandalism. But, if you also check out the user 184.76.104.15 contribution history, you will see that many of the changes that were made by user 184.76.104.15, was reverted by other editors. And I also think that when a person has a history since October 2013, of continuing to change names and dates with no references being added or cited, is considered an act of vandalism.

Day of the Year births and deaths
Hi Mufka, I wonder if you can clarify for me whether births and deaths of animals are acceptable on the pages of Day of the Year entries. I notice there are several at the moment but I don't take that as the rule. I would firstly just like to say that I didn't like the ominous tone your message had to it. I am fairly new to Wikipedia and I am trying to do my best to abide by guidelines, not engage in any vandalistic activity and indeed trying to prevent it myself and to do the right thing and I infer from your message and its tone that you did not adequately acknowledge that.
I apologize sincerely for my breaking of the formatting guidelines and my addition of what you to perceive to be "unneccessary references". My intention was not to vandalize the page but merely to add an event to it which I genuinely thought was relevant, notable, interesting and critical in world affairs.
I perfectly understand why I was in breach of the formatting rules and why my references were not welcome but I beg to differ on your assertion that the main event I added and I quote you verbatim "does not meet the inclusion criteria per WP:DOY." It clearly states under the section What is notable on the Wikipedia:Days of the year page that "dates significant world leaders or movements ROSE TO or fell from POWER" is notable! Now if you want to take the sorry line of argument and say that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is not a 'significant' leader and that the outcome of the last national election in the UK has not had a bearing on global affairs then let me inform you of this if you didn't already know. It was OUR Prime Minister's decision to not involve OUR country's troops in Syria militarily which influenced YOUR President's decision to not involve YOUR country's troops in Syria militarily. Had the outcome of our last national election not been the way it was, UK and US troops would not have withdrawed and be withdrawing from Iraq and Afghanistan respectively as quickly. The amount of aid per our country's respective GDP's granted to poor African countries is determined by a consensus made by our leaders. I could give many more reasons as to why the 2010 General Election in the UK and its outcome was significant globally but I do at this point rest my case and plead of you to see reason and add the United Kingdom general election, 2010 to the page May 6 without the incorrect formatting and "unnecessary references".

- Rising to and falling from power are both very distinct from gaining or losing power as a result of the normal political process that establishes ruling parties. Now you may say that these are the same. But in the context of notability for DOY, rise and fall from power refer to extraordinary circumstances that do not normally occur to facilitate a change of power. For example, a US presidential election is never notable in this context (unless of course we include the very narrow example of the first black president which falls under social milestone). -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 03:02, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello,
I have searched in vain for the good path to get administrator’s help for the following issue and so I decided to send this request to some including you.
I have considerably expanded the article Guerrilla filmmaking and took care in referencing it as far as I could (over 90 links to trustful sources). I am an experienced editor of Wikipedia. For my surprise, the article was reverted by user CIRT to a preceding stub version mainly consisting of a very narrow list of films. Many important contents were removed. Self promotional vandalism seems to be the reason of such intervention, sustained by acute threats. I do not intend to respond with helpless and inconsequent arguments and the time I have to dedicate to Wikipedia is quite limited.
I’d be happy if you could pay some attention to this occurrence and let you decide whatever you think is reasonable.

- The spacing is part of the template and it makes it easier to follow and duplicate in the edit window. Where a clean revert was not possible, I tried to put back any additional changes that were made. Reversion of my edits to date pages
My comment: The title says it all. The only times when it's OK to do this is in telling jokes: "A horse goes into a bar..." or writing a script for a movie or play: MacBeth: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and tomorrow..." or: Billy the Kid picks up his gun. This is evident in the changed articles in the lead in where it says e.g. 1582 *WAS* a year. This is probably in the Wikipedia Manual of Style.
This template is inconsistent because it correctly describes the year as something that happened in the past, then it goes on to use grammatically and factually make the mistake of using the present tense. This is only done very informally or by semi-illiterate of very informal speakers. Senor Cuete (talk) 01:34, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi, again! First of all, I want to apologize for trying to contribute in a non-desirable fashion. I think I learned the lesson. I didn't find these contributions neither "deep" or complex; however they proved to be very controversial. I suppose there are many examples of controversies among contributors from ex-Yugoslav countries (I didn't think I'll join the "club"), however I'll try to explain the principles I follow, and illustrate that on several of (yesterday's) examples: a) I look for the facts (besides the fact that I know most of them) about where were these people born, where they lived, where they "received" their education (or were "formed"), where they worked, and where they died. Basically, which cultural circle were they part of. Besides the fact of their ethnic background. This is why I added Tesla's Croatian origins - because, he was born on the territory of today's Croatia (there is a museum in his birthplace, in Smiljan, near Gospić), he went to primary school there (in Gospić); when he was 14-17 years of age, Tesla went to the very same secondary school I went to 115 years after, in Karlovac, then as well as now, in Croatia. He never lived in Serbia, nor was educated there (but continued it in Graz and Prague). Although, he was an ethnic Serb. That is why I wanted to, for the sake of the truth, to add Croatian part of his formative heritage. To ethnic Serbian and to professional American. Besides the fact Tesla would probably declare himself today as "universal/global/human engineer/physicist" or s/thing like that if we only asked them to. [There is more controversial case, which I haven't touched yet: You have Ivo Andrić, 1961 Nobel Laureate for Literature, who was an ethnic Croat (born in today's Bosnia and Herzegovina, by both parents Croatian), who was educated in Zagreb (Croatia), who claimed to speak Croatian as his mother tongue (in the age of 20), who published his poems as a part of "Hrvatska mlada lirika", and, yes, who later in life declared himself as Serbian. However, next to "October 9" as his birth date, Andrić is listed as Serbian novelist, while next to "March 13" as his death date, he is listed as Croatian author. For the sake of the (objective) truth, I would list him as Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian novelist. I just decided not to touch it, yet.] [And another one from the world of football... Stjepan Bobek (not just anybody; great Ferencz Puskas praised him as one of the best out there), was an ethnic Croat, from Zagreb, who formed as a football player in Zagreb, and who was transferred to Belgrade by political dictate in the age of 22 (in 1945). Yes, he continued playing and living there, and he died in Belgrade. However, he was listed here as Serbian footballer. I admitted that, and just added his Croatian origins (I didn't even say he is Croatian footballer; I admitted the (coincidental) fact he lived 68 years of his life in Belgrade). But, I'm astonished with how people manipulate with facts. Even on Wikipedia.] [I wonder how come that Kenny Dalglish or Alex Ferguson are (still) Scottish, or how probable it is for Lionel Messi to be listed as Spanish instead of Argentinian.] b) Yugoslavia doesn't exist for the last quarter of a century, so I wouldn't use it as a description in almost any case when there is a strong support for someone national identity, either in his/her ethnic heritage or in his/her life and work. For instance, if Tomislav Ivić was born in Split (Croatia), he lived/worked in Split (Croatia) the first half of his life before he went to work around the globe (Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy,...), he returned to Split and he died there, in 2011. He managed Yugoslav National Football Team for only 6 months during 1970s - Miljan Miljanić managed it for 3-4 years, and yet he is listed as Serbian coach. I don't have against that (although, I believe he was ethnic Montenegrin), but, please, allow me to list Ivić as Croatian because he was Croatian. Just like, e.g., Ivan Lendl is not Czechoslovakian-Czech, Tomislav Ivić is not Yugoslav-Croatian.] c) If you question my intentions or my ethical position, I'll make it clear... My only intention in this case is to rise just a little bit the awareness about the Croatian people (or people from Croatia) who contributed to the world cultural heritage. I don't intend to list some average singers or actors or athletes. I intend to list only those I consider top, in and from my country. If they spent larger and most productive part of their lives abroad (like Tesla), my ethical position is that it's justified to list them as, e.g., Croatian-French, or Croatian-German, because without the other part of these attributes, they wouldn't have succeeded in their efforts the way they did (just like Tesla).

And what do you say in this case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Vukas? I really have problems in understanding the logic? Why then don't you list Ivan Lendl as Czechoslovakian-Czech tennis player. The fact is, as in Vukas's case, that 'Czechoslovakia' was the name of the country under which flag he won all of his Grand Slam titles, and spent all of his 270 weeks at Nr. 1 position. - Bernard Vukas should be listed as "Croatian football player". It's really quite simple. Date pages use whatever the bio article says. If the bio is wrong, fix the bio. Your next comment will be if that's the case then why is he listed as Yugoslav-Croatian footballer? That's because with the thousands of entries on the date pages, there are not enough interested editors to fix them all. But that is how they should be. What bio to fix, Mufka? E.g. On both Croatian and English Wikipedia you can find that Vukas was Croatian footballer. What would be the source which is more valid than those two? Extended confirmed protection
Hello, Mufka. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi Mufka.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Mufka. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

- A discussion to workshop proposals to amend the administrator inactivity policy at Wikipedia talk:Administrators has been in process since late December 2016.
- Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2016 closed with no consensus for implementing Pending changes level 2 with new criteria for use.
- Following an RfC, an activity requirement is now in place for bots and bot operators.
- When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
- Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
- The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.
- The Arbitration Committee released a response to the Wikimedia Foundation's statement on paid editing and outing.
- JohnCD (John Cameron Deas) passed away on 30 December 2016. John began editing Wikipedia seriously during 2007 and became an administrator in November 2009.

Hello Mufka,
In response to your warning on my talk page: I must have misread your remark. As you can see in my contributions 99% of my edits are simple corrections and link additions. They are the result of an application I created that spots erroneous and missing links in Days of the year pages and year pages. Because of the nature of the type of edits I somehow misread your comment to always tick the minor edits check box. From now that will not happen again. Regards Mill 1 (talk) 14:31, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
