Gene Clark
[edit]Hiya Mudpuppie! No, that's fine if you want to start adding citations to the Gene Clark article. I tend to do a lot of work on Byrds related articles on Wikipedia and was actually about to start work on the Clarence White page, when an overzealous IP user started deleting large amounts of the Gene Clark article because of a lack of supporting citations. To be honest, the Gene Clark article has been on my "to do list" for ages and I was planning to start cleaning it up and adding citations myself soon, but if you'd like to do it instead, be my guest. No one on Wikipedia "owns" articles, so you don't need to ask my (or anyone else's) permission to start editing. To be honest, if you're happy to add supporting 3rd party refs to the page, then it saves me a job! :)
One thing though, just in case you were unaware, inline citations can be web-based, they don't have to be solely from books. Just make sure that the website sourced is a reliable one. For music, sites like Allmusic or PopMatters, and those of notable, trusted music publications like Rolling Stone or the NME etc are always good to use. Self-published blogs etc are not. Thanks! - Just to be clear, you don't have to use a mixture of printed media and online sources for citations, I was just letting you know that web-based sources are fine as well. So please don't worry about replacing some of your book sources with online ones - a good source is a good source, regardles of format. As for the Gene Clark discography, I agree that his albums with the New Christy Minstrels and The Byrds should be listed (don't forget the 1973 Byrds reunion album) and I would recommend a format like the one I've used in the Gene Parsons article. If you really want to go to town on the Gene Clark discorgaphy and list all of the singles he was on too (both as a part of groups and solo), then I would recommend splitting it off into a Gene Clark discography page, as has been done on The Byrds page. If you decide to do that, you might find these pages useful... WP:WikiProject_Musicians/Article_guidelines#Discography_section, WP:Manual_of_Style/Lists_of_works#Discographies and WP:MOSMUSIC.

[edit]Once again, thank you for the useful information. I was bothered by seeing reasonably well-written musician biographies disappearing because they had no citations, but after seeing some of the ruthless deletions and snarky commentary on their pages, I was hesitant to enter the realm. You have been very kind and helpful and that has made the process less formidable.Mudpuppie (talk) 01:28, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
- Somewhat inspired by your recent work on the Gene Clark article, I've gotten off my arse and started improving the Clarence White page. So, thanks for that! --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 15:45, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Good work on Gene Clark
[edit]Hello Mudpuppie,
You made a great start with the references, and I hope that you will continue working on other musician biographies as well. Thanks for helping to improve the encyclopedia. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:42, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Gene Clark completion
[edit]Now I feel guilty! I started revisions and citations and then left for vacation. I will now get off my own arse and start working on it again!Mudpuppie (talk) 17:00, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- No worries. You are allowed to have a life outside of Wikipedia. :) I sometimes have whole months where I do very little editing and then I'll have a big spurt of editing madness! To be honest, any editing, so matter how sporadic, is better than none. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 11:22, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
