Thanks for you barnstar. There is so little information about India on Wikipedia that I am tempted to add on new pages as often as I can but I generally avoid two-line stubs. I like to add something meaningful. The ones that appear to be better are put up for DYK. When I started working on Wikipedia nearly two years ago, I did not use in-line citations. Now some of the old articles are running into trouble. For quite sometime now I have been thinking about taking time off from new articles and setting the old ones right. Maybe, I should do it now and return to new articles later. You have been working on quality material. Keep it up. Regards. - P.K.Niyogi (talk) 04:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Riya Sen
Hello Praveen. Nice to see that you've been watching the article. I have feeling that it's almost ready take another go at GAN. Can you take a look at the article and let me know what issues need to be solved? I know the prose is choppy. Context and flow are not too good in the last two sections. But, I promise to rewrite those parts. I wish I could have help from a good copyeditor. Let me know your observations, please. Aditya(talk • contribs) 10:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

- Wonderful. Which part of India? I have been to Maharashtra (Mumbai and Puna), Goa, Delhi, Bangalore, all over West Bengal and Orissa, Bihar (Patna), a few places in Chhattisgarh and Assam, and much of Meghalaya. I love Gujrati and Punjabi food, Chennai films (subtitled or dubbed, of course) and have met a few great Indians. I also am quite jealous of the Indian Wikiproject (awesome). I already have contributed significantly to a good article that's part of that project (Ananthabhadram). Riya Sen is my second drive to that end. Nice to know you so much. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Madhubala actress.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Madhubala actress.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:32, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Images
Really that image has to be deleted because that license is no longer valid. Officially images from Caledonian Publishing have been black listed as certain editors, Sarvagnya for one are under the impression they are copywrighted and we can't legally use them, despite the fact several of us have made an agreement with various sites who all claim they have been leased the images from the same publisher who has granted permission ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:55, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Well I've been pretty much functioning as an admin for a long time, there is a reason why I haven't accepted adminship yet, I've put in 10-15 times more edits on here than many admins so don't let the admin badge be a judge for what goes on around here. If anybody disputes it and restores the tag OK, but I feel the rationale is strong enough to justify the images existence. This is based on a council discussion we had over six months ago on the legitimacy of fair use images in stages in an actor career where a free image is impossible to obtain particularly when it is 40-50 years ago. Technically though the main image we could possibly obtain a recent free image but that would go in the main infobox whereas the fair use image would not be permitted to do so -this is why I removed the images from the infobox ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Keep up the great work on these articles!!!! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes I fully agree, in my experience many image taggers and patrollers have a tendency to emphasise their own importance and elevation above other editors with all sorts of policing, the "wiki lawyers" who forget what wikipedia is about. Don't let their strict policies and false prententiousness deceive you, but in the case of many issues they do have a valid point beneath their policing , if a rationale is missing or is inadequate. I have learnt to deal with them and work with them most of the time. IN case you were wondering why to date I haven't accepted various requests for adminship, I'm not a believer in bureacracy where it appears other editors "rule" above others and fully agree with Jimbo that it should be for technical purposes not to administer above others. At times though I could certainly use certain admin tools to help me work. Besides this I have always seen adminship as a distraction of encyclopedic writing and developing of articles which I try to solely concentrate on. Regards. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Well if I was to remove an image from Riya Sen I would remove the other one rather than that one as that image is particularly important encyclopedically to identify an important career moment. As for Image:428px-001 A.jpg I seriously doubt it is GFDL or even legitimate permission wise to be honest. Looks like a blatant copyvio to be honest that should be dleeted, but I'll assume innocent until proven guilty so to speak. But remember that although I agree that one or two fair use images that are very important and irresplaceable in places are generally accpetable I would strongly frown against abusing it and adding too many "fairuse" images in places. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- Yeh but replaceable images of these actresses now are not appropriate as they do not identify them during their career which the article discusses. To expect to be able to obtain a free image of them as old women which have no relation to their past career is quite ridiculous. As long as it has a rationale to explain why the image is appropriate and why a free altertative cannot adequately give the same info this should be fine. Shahid • Talk2me 15:13, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- If indeed the "added plus" refers to Gracy's time, so go ahead. Shahid • Talk2me 15:16, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- No, a free replacement of her past career (which the article mainly discusses) cannot be found. But she is still very active so I'm not sure either. But replacements for actresses who are no longer active (ie Babita). In fact, I have no problem to add a FU rationale that provides a critical commentary. Shahid • Talk2me 15:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, Jessica is still very active. Also, there is no copyright license for Waheeda Rehman's image as the image is more than 30-40 years old. Shahid • Talk2me 15:22, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, only remember not to tag up for deletion images which are screenshots and are used in the films they are taken from. If an image seems inappropriate for usage in an actor's article, but has a FU rationale of film screenshot and is featured in the film article, just remove it from the actor's article. Shahid • Talk2me 15:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
One good example of that is the image of Raakhee. The image comes from the 1971 film Sharmeelee, so it definitely can be added there and thus cannot be deleted as it satisfies the FU criteria as a film screenshot. Now yes, its usage on her article is debatable. Shahid • Talk2me 15:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I will remove the tag now and add a critical commentary to this image so that it qualifies the FU conditions of screenshots in a BLP. Yet, it can be be placed only in the career section, and not the infobox. Shahid • Talk2me 15:53, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm writing the review right now. I think grammatically it can work both ways, but according to the plot I just read the British film maker recruited the nonchalant youngsters individually and not as a previously united group, so I thought the verb should go with that.--Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 18:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- I removed my name from the GAN list. I think the article has many language problems and you'll probably disagree with some of my corrections because I'm not a native English speaker, so I think it's for the best for me to step back now before I spend any more time correcting things that will probably be challenged. Best of luck. --Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 21:50, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Narmada River
The wiki page on Narmada River, as at present, is full of mis-statements and personal observaions without reliable authentication. It is a very contoversial river and hence the contents of this article should be duly verifiable from Govt. web sites or court orders. With this end in view, I have prepared a revised article to place the facts in correct perspective (upheld by the highest court in the country). Since you have taken deep interest in writing and editing aticles on Wiki, I would like you to have a look at the additions I would be making on Narmada river article in the next few days. I thought that my factual additions to the Supreme Court verdict posted on the web page of Narmada Bachao Andolan would be vanadlised. But I am glad that it has been retained. I would urge you to read the full text of the Supreme Court judgement, which is cited in the text, to appreciate the various issues connected with the project. Since I am not very conversant with uploading of photos on wiki pages, if you can do it for the Narmada then I can ask the Narmada Control Authority to give you permission to upload some of the pictures and drawings of the layout of the river posted on their web site.--Nvvchar (talk) 08:35, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Madhuri Dixit image
Hello User:Mspraveen, I am pretty sure that television shows are treated in a similar manner like films, where photographers from certain media groups land up on the sets to take pictures of the actors. Just like how in a film, photographers come on the sets to take the pictures of the actors filming, this was probably the case of Mrs. Dixit's image. For example, don't you see sometimes that actors are interviewed while they are on television reality shows, where the media people ask them questions about their forthcoming films, why they are here, and etc? Thus the Sony Entertainment Television must have allowed the indiafm.com photographers to come on the shooting sets and take pictures of Madhuri Dixit, who appeared on the show to promote her film Aaja Nachle. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fans sivaji.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Fans sivaji.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by an adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 04:49, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

- I don't think it'll matter too much - as long as non-project participants assesses them appropriately, but he seems to have participated in the Milhist drive before. I'm not sure how Milhist maintain their quality or if they do have any mechanisms in place. But I'll be looking through a sample from each participant. If there's something that's significantly off base, then the dept. can overrule those ratings per usual practice. But I don't expect that will be necessary (except possibly in a few exceptional articles out of all of the worklists). Ncmvocalist (talk) 11:12, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Forgot about that!! Agree entirely - wanted it for the post-drive workshop that will be opened later. Had it in mind because some past drives from other wikiprojects did that, although they presented it in a kinda confusing way. Fortunately, as all of the articles in this drive are unassessed, I can measure how much of the backlog was reduced based on the number of articles assessed by the end of the period. But the initial number would be different now. :S I wonder if someone wrote the number down somewhere... I'll check the noticeboard. Ncmvocalist (talk) 09:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh my, there goes that idea...I suppose we could manually check the log for articles that shifted from the unassessed category to a class category for those articles that were assessed under the drive, if there's no other way.... Ncmvocalist (talk) 09:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Bot approved: dabbing help needed
Hi there. Fritz bot has been approved at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/FritzpollBot for filling in a possible 1.8 million articles on settlements across the world. Now dabbing needs to be done for links which aren't sorted as the bot will bypass any blue links. and I need as many people as possible to help me with Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Places to prepare for the bot. If you could tackle a page or two everything counts as it will be hard to do it alone. Thankyou ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:08, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep its great news now that we have the green light to add this many articles. See the conversation with User talk:DSachan. Basically all thats need doing is checking the existing blue links in the directory at Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Places to see if they are correct. If they lead to the wrong page then they will need correcting e.g Baluchi is the name of numerous page and under the province listed would need to be linked accordingly e.g Baluchi, Ghor. as it is in Ghor Province. With Bangladesh many of the places will share the same name with places in India etc so pages will have to be moved e.g to Ashmabad, India and Ashmabad, Bangladesh etc. or my province e.g Ashmabad, Chittagong if multiple places within a country have the same name. Note this name is fictional but this is the practice that will need doing. You see the bot only runs on red links, if it comes across a blue link it will skip it. This is why we need to ensure that the blue links are actually the articles that correspond ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:44, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

If it ain't broke why fix it
I am rather puzzled as to why you went to the trouble of putting this: {{db-nocontext}} on the Broke Hall page. You cite No context. Very short articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. Example: "He is a funny man with a red car. He makes people laugh." Context is different from content, treated in A3, below.
Clearly the subject can be identified - in Nacton, by Orwell river. It is a stately home of significance, home to a famous admiral and currently a primary school. Perhaps you could share with me why you regard why this palpable context should be dismissed with the sobriquet No. Thanks.Harrypotter (talk) 09:15, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

- Hi there! The article, in itself, is very small and also does not cite any references. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may try to address these aspects while you put a {{hangon}} template on the article page. I hope this helps. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 09:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for this, but in your response you introduce other factors - notability and verfiability - which only create confusion. In fact the question of notability has already been addressed above, so I would not want to waste any more of your time dealing with this issue. I have already put a very nice picture of Broke Hall up with a reference, so verifiability has been dealt with. I want to make clear that the inclusion of the reference was in no way in response to your piece just above which I had not read at the time. I have no intention of putting {{hangon}} on the page. If the page gets deleted and my work destroyed, so be it. No doubt you will feel vindicated as the person who instigated this erasure and will deserve congratulations. Me, i've got better things to do.Harrypotter (talk) 09:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Safilguda Railway Station
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Safilguda Railway Station, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?

Lead editor
Hi Schumi, I have started working on newsletter and have prepared the first cut of it here. I would like you to perform the lead editor role on it as you seem to have some previous experience on this. This is my first time on such work :-) Feel free to edit and add/remove anything you feel. I have also asked User:Tinucherian to work as distributor/editor on this. Together we can publish this using Tinu's new bot. --gppande «talk» 08:23, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good! I just formatted the content a little bit so both left and right section becomes even. GaneshK's suggestion has also been accommodated. I think the newsletter is ready now and I have asked Tinucherian about the distribution plan. Feel free to do some final edits to improve before it goes out. --gppande «talk» 08:27, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- No hurry: We still have couple of days as I am not sure when Tinu can run the bot to send it out. Sure we can wait for this weekend and then discuss status on Monday. I think, lets send this first newsletter as soon as it gets ready(no hurry though) as people are quite alive these days. For following editions we will do it on month-ends. --gppande «talk» 09:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- I like the DYK section in newsletter. I just replaced the DYKs to 2 which are specific to Wikiproject India instead of articles. Everyday 1 or 2 DYKs come for India related articles on main page so I thought it would not be nice just put random 2 in newsletter. So replaced something which would talk about the project. I think the newsletter is well composed now. Tinu is also ready to publish it. Go through it once and do any final brushing as deemed fit. If all good, we will definitely rock-n-roll on Monday. Do you think we should put an announcement of WT:IN asking as many people to subscribe to it before publishing so that the newsletter will get maximum coverage? Or making an announcement will kill the pleasant surprise factor? --gppande «talk» 15:51, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's possible, we might not have DYK for every newsletter. We might put something else in that section if we don't get DYK for next edition. Like, we as part of Outreach department(now) can interview some Indian Wikipedia Admin and put link in newsletter for all to read or we might ask WP:HD to collect some savvy facts of India project for next edition. Lets have that section as a trivia. Randomness as you put it. --gppande «talk» 16:32, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes-it seems ready to go. Tinu has asked for review of the newsletter from some old folks. As soon as its done he will get the newsletter distributed by the bot. Now after a long break we are starting the newsletter again! --gppande «talk» 14:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

3RR
Hey! 3RR applies to constant reversions, most frequently during an edit war, not fights against vandalism. I've warned the guy. Let's see the reaction. Shahid • Talk2me 08:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's what I do as well. But considering my not so short time on here and my experience, warnings just don't help in such cases. Most of the vandals are either one-time anons who make one edit in a lifetime or those who have multiple IP adderesses. In this case, we'll have to report him. There is a registered book Brhmaand Pujan written in 1999 from a well known writer of India Naresh Sonee. Notability issue could be sorted/verified out from this site-
- http://brhmaandpujan-news-reviews.tripod.com/ . Acquainting you here, Wikibin engine had captured these two sites from Wikipedia. They are as
- http://wikibin.org/articles/brhmaand-pujan.html
- http://wikibin.org/articles/naresh-sonee.html
- However one can come across infinite hits on search engines about Naresh Sonee or Brhmaand Pujan
Your good selves can go through the same and verifiy for assertments. The author has introduced a self based unique logical philosophy one of it's kind. Presently, how can I re put some information again on wikipedia. As time & again it get deleted on bias by a certain community in wiki ? Can you put my case/cause across wikiIndian portal members or Chairman of wikipedia? Or if possible can you put the same pages again by editing them as required picking up from wikibin promoting the same. Regard --Dralansun (talk) 10:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:FILMS Welcome
Hey, welcome to WikiProject Films! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of films, awards, festivals, filmmaking, and film characters. If you haven't already, please add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your user page.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Most of our important discussions about the project itself and its related articles take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter. The newsletter for May has been published. June's issue is currently in production; it will be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There is a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Want to jump right into editing? The style guidelines show things you should include.
- Want to assist in some current backlogs within the project? Visit the Announcements template to see how you can help.
- Want to know how good our articles are? Our assessment department has rated the quality of every film article in Wikipedia. Check it out!

Hi, why are you reverting my edits to Arizona and Arizona Secretary of State? Please explain beyond "it's vandalism". 4.242.108.187 (talk) 17:30, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Really, my edits were meant to just turn the redirect on Arizona Secretary of State into something a bit more usable. Of course, the correct edit would be to create a real Arizona Secretary of State page and fix the redirects permanently, but I don't know what we could put there to make anything more than a stub. Maybe we could put a list of past Secretaries of State there? 4.242.108.170 (talk) 18:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
For quite a while now I go around pages checking for commong mispellings or diction. Another thing is removing uncited claims because when a page has more than 5 claims not validated it takes away from the quality of the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.224.167 (talk) 05:34, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
