2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies
Hi there. Thank you for listing the new and abolished constituencies for this article. I was wondering whether you were going to update this list for English constituencies now that the final proposals have been published. (The Scottish and Welsh ones seem to be up-to-date). I am quite happy to do this if you don't have the time. Also, I note that you have linked most of the new constituencies to the County Lists of Parliamentary constituencies, which is a bit strange. Presumably, these will all need to be set up as new pages - see, for example, Fareham and Waterlooville. JSboundaryman (talk) 19:22, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not Moon but just to set things out from my perspective. I think for now the redirects are fine. There's no point in creating articles with no results, no candidates, and until things get updated beyond our control, no maps. Let's do things in stages: make sure the Final Recommendations section is accurate; then make sure the county articles are accurate; then think about each individual article. We've got some potential problems afoot that we can leave for now - will the article use "Glyndwr" or"Glyndŵr"; the Commission has recommended "Dover and Deal" but that's a redirect to an article which covers both, so what shall we do; do we use "Ross-shire"? Maybe this is my real life role talking, but let's do things in order and take it from there. doktorb wordsdeeds 22:04, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input. I agree about doing things in steps. So, I will get on with updating the lists on the Periodic Review article, then update the county and regional articles. I was thinking to wait until the Reviews have been formally approved by Parliament before creating individual articles for the new constituencies, in readiness for the next general election. We can, at least, specify the boundaries (my speciality). Maps could also be created, but I wouldn't know how to generate these. JSboundaryman (talk) 10:48, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Doktorbuk, had a little dispute just now with @Santiago Claudio over "Glyndwr" or"Glyndŵr", I'd argue (for now) based purely on the report to use Glyndŵr for Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr (UK Parliament constituency) as that is used under the dedicated sub-section in the report,
Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr (Maldwyn a Glyndŵr)
andThe Commission recommends the official name of Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr for this constituency and the official alternative name of Maldwyn a Glyndŵr.
, I assume the other mentions may have not included it as it is not a common key. Most other official uses of Glyndŵr include ŵ, so makes more sense to include it than exclude it, such as Glyndŵr and Wrexham Glyndŵr University until more media information is provided to be analysed for common use. - @Moondragon21, apologies for hijacking your talk page! Not sure where this conversation should be and didn't want to fracture it. DankJae 01:29, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- I knew this might be the first point of contention. My instinct is that most people won't type the entire name to get to the article, so there's that to consider. Wikipedia is supposed to reflect what sources say, and most sources use the "ŵ". So the main article should too, and we'll create a redirect using the "w" spelling. How's that? doktorb wordsdeeds 10:06, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- both already exist as redirects DankJae 14:30, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Aaah! I'd overwrite the "Glyndŵr redirect" as the article and keep the other. For precedent I point to Na h-Eileanan an Iar. doktorb wordsdeeds 14:51, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Jana Seppelt. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:23, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Moondragon21, you have been editing here a long time, you should know you can't change an article into a redirect that is in the middle of an AFD discussion. Make your argument there, do not take unilateral action on your own as if there wasn't a discussion going on. Liz Read! Talk! 06:24, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
