Looking for good administrator

[edit]

How you doing? Are you in Canada? I need a good administrator, somebody neutral, i am having problem with arafat site, this confuised individual keeps on reverting arafat's page, link to jerusalem which is of importance, otherwise, it's incomplete biography, i will tell you much more later and i have other concerns, hopefully you know some other administrators, we can do something together, also, how to report bad administrators, how to kick them out?

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yasser_Arafat&diff=88678086&oldid=88675033 If you go under arafat history this guy keeps on reverting,so I want to know, am I right or wrong here, if I am wrong, then what is right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.3.172 (talkcontribs)

Hi Montrealais, Please note that this user is continously violating concensus against adding this information, which he is citing from a source which is not reputable. He has vandalized my user page several times and one of his other IP's is currently blocked (64.107.3.104). Thanks, --Strothra 22:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note, I fully reject the above statement, i posted on his site not to do what he is doing, the above user is vandal, has 10 accounts and was blocked 10 times, be very careful, i always provide BEST POSSIBLE LINKS and if you look under links under arafat you will know he died in france and they issued death certificate, born in Jerusalem, strothra should not be allowed on wiki anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.3.172 (talkcontribs)

What??? This has got to stop. You can see his block log here [1] --Strothra 22:34, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yasser_Arafat&diff=88693006&oldid=88691470 As you can see, information was correct, I simply added information about his death, correct death certificate and possibility of birth in Jerusalem, is that vandalism, or is that only a try to make wikipedia more accurate that never was or is nor will be>? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.99.3.246 (talkcontribs)

You have no idea how little I'm interested in this argument. Get dispute resolution if you like, but stop having your argument on my talk page. - Montréalais 04:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The argument was resolved once I requested the page to be protected as well as my userpage to stop his vandalism. I realize that it's annoying for you; my last edits to your talk page were simply to add the unsigned tag and to restore my comment which he edited. --Strothra 18:01, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so you are an administrator? Great help you are, no, nothing has been resolved.

You're welcome. I'm not a dispute resolver. - Montréalais 20:23, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So why are u administrator, you gave me some link as throwing an old bone to the dog to eat it, what good is that link if i cant find good administrator to look over arafat? DO u recommend some administrator?

Graphics Lab

[edit]

I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. What's more, the Graphics Lab has discussion boards, tips, tools and links; in sum, a good common workspace. Come help us out! The infrastucture is already in place, and now we need participants. :) --Zantastik talk 02:08, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 02:50 3 January 2007 (UTC).

Hello, Montrealais. See my reason, for why this article should be deleted. PS- I was getting lonely, waiting for someone to discuss the issue with me. GoodDay 20:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Qc-coat-thb.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Qc-coat-thb.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sharing of images

[edit]

Hi. Please help. I've had some difficulty with uploading images taken by other photographers and posted on other websites.

In two different cases, I wrote to the photographer and copyright holder asking their permission, and they wrote back granting it. When I uploaded the images, I selected "The copyright holder gave me permission to use this work only in Wikipedia articles". In both cases, I pasted the photographer's name and the image URL into the space provided along with the text of their e-mail to me granting permission. In both cases, the images were deleted almost immediately.

What can I do differently that would allow me to post these images? Thank you, Peter 04:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Montrealais, there is a "intense discussion" (that's, obviously, an euphemism for "nasty war") about the Comunidad Valenciana name in English. Apparently, some Valencian autonomous office itself (the department for tourism) has occasionally translated as "Land of Valencia", I guess trying to avoid the non-sense "Community" may mean to English speakers not familiarized with the Spanish "Autonomous Communities" system. Some users (none of them English native speakers) are clinging to this translation for political reasons which this is not the place to introduce, at least right now. However, I have read some opinions by English native speakers despising that translation as clumsy, even "illiterate". As per these native speakers, apparently the right translation could be Community of Valencia, but I don't know. Do you have an opinion? Thanks. Mountolive | Talk 06:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. probably "do you have an opinion"? is not the best question, as I heard somewhere that opinions are like asses: everyone's got one ;)
"Land of Valencia" sounds ridiculous. IMHO it should either be "Comunitat Valenciana" or "Valencian Community," preferably the latter. The title the article has now is about as good as we're likely to get. But you'll forgive me if I don't get involved in that particular nightmare of a debate. Believe me, if I ever move to Spain as I've been thinking of, I'm going to be keeping my fool mouth shut. - Montréalais 08:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Montréalais. There is a voting going on now in [2] Based in your opinion and others, the matter seems to be close to a happy ending. I know you don't want to get much involved but you may be interested in having a quick look at the page and cast your vote there. Thanks again. Mountolive | Talk 18:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. actually, don't bother, man: the situation is as fucked up as ever. Thanks anyway Mountolive | Talk 02:00, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh God, I don't know who did it (please send me a sign if you were ;) but someone has made vandalizing one of the fine arts in the lead of this article. And what is even better: one of the usual Catalanists has gone after the superb vandalizing....and has fixed a TYPO!! hahahaha, nationalists are sometimes the cutest creatures on Earth....Go check it right now!! And give me a sign if... ;) ~~

WP on Iraq War WMD

[edit]

Hi Montrealais. I noticed you were in at the start of this article on the lead up to the war, and I thought you might be able to help me. What I'm looking for is a record of the pre-March '03 Wikipedia discussions about reports of the governments' WMD claims. I'd just like to see how well NPOV was being applied by editors before the lack of WMDs became clear. So many articles have sprung up following the war that it's difficult to locate where the original discussions might have taken place. I'd appreciate it if you pointed me in the right direction. Thanks.--Shtove 21:16, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't get involved in those discussions and I'm not sure where they might be found. - Montréalais 21:24, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Micheline Montreuil

[edit]

Hi Matthew. Following the recent events of the NDP, I wrote an article in French about Micheline Montreuil. I have produced a rough draft of an English translation. In my research, to my pleasant surprise, I noticed that you were Co-President of the LGBTT Commission of NPD-Québec and that, as such, you had issued an official comment on this choice of candidate.

I was already thinking of asking someone to review my draft for language. Since you are probably better informed than I about your Co-President and since I trust your language abilities, a quick review of yours of the draft would be an honour, if you have the time. I am wondering, for example, about the correct use of "transgender" and/or "transgendered". Add any appropriate fact you wish. If you wish to have credit when the article goes live, I can write it in the description of the first edit or anything else. Thanks! --Liberlogos 05:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: Why do I get the feeling you are not unrelated to the choice of a Montreal Metro picture on the Commission website?

Furthermore, the press release from the Commision [3] states that "If she is elected, she will be the third transgender MP in the world, after Georgina Beyer in New Zealand and Vladimir Luxuria in Italy", but I also see two other people that could possibly be considered: Aya Kamikawa and Shabnam Mausi. Mistake of the release or something else? --Liberlogos 06:00, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the question. I'll have a look at the draft but judging from your French article it ought to be fine. Aya Kamikawa is a city councillor and Shabnam Mausi is a member of a regional assembly, not national. - Montréalais 14:16, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have reviewed your draft and found no real problems with your discussion of trans issues; I've just made a few improvements in style and added a few links. - Montréalais 14:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Coat of arms of Nunavut.png, by Strangerer, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Coat of arms of Nunavut.png is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

Image:Ns-coat-thb.jpg

[edit]

The image you uploaded at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Ns-coat-thb.jpg was seemingly taken from a site that should *not* have been distributing the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms has very restricted use and the copyright info/license supplied was also incorrect. The image needs to be deleted; a new image (from government, and being the actual coat of arms instead of the reproduction that was previously up) has been uploaded.

I didn't upload this image to Commons. - Montréalais 15:32, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have perfomed a web search with the contents of Barcelona metro line 10, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Barcelona Metro line 9. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 03:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm contacting you out of courtesy as you have contributed to the page and may wish to supply your own citations. If you feel this doesn't matter to you, please ignore it. This page was rated as a Good Article, but has been downgraded because nobody did the donkeywork of listing the attributions to the various statements provided, which is after all a fairly serious dereliction of duty in what's suppoed to be a historical record. Having discussed the withdrawal of GA with LuciferMorgan, I give notice that I am sitting down with the three classic original source texts (Puylaurens, Vaux-de-Cernay and de Tudèle - the last in the Livre de Poche edition as the Martin-Chabot is long out of print) to add the missing inline citations to this page. I do not intend at this point to make any textual alterations, but if comments are made which are NOT justified, be prepared to state your sources now.

Fair use rationale for Image:Pei-coat.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pei-coat.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:Canadian-coins.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

A tag has been placed on Image:Ville-souterraine-1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Ville-souterraine-1.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 10:52, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Demonym?

[edit]

Hi, I'm doing a little research on the origin and usage of the nonstandard term 'demonym' which is widely used on Wikipedia. I see that you created the Demonym page five years ago. I'm trying to track down its first usage and was wondering where you first came across the word. Have you by any chance read Labels for Locals by Paul Dickson?
Thanks for your time. Ulmanor (talk) 13:44, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you can help me ?

[edit]

Bonjour "Montrealais".

Vous pouvez me contacter ou me répondre directement à cet email : gabrielmoginot@mac.com

Je me connecte actuellement en dehors de chez moi car je ne peux plus agir sur Wikipédia depuis mon ordinateur personnel à cause des différents blocages.

Mille mercis, j'attends votre retour. Gabriel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.251.17.167 (talk) 12:02, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm on the verge of nominating this at Featured Lists. Thanks for trying to revert the anonymous vandalism to the Gideon v. Wainwright article. Unfortunately, you didn’t get it all. Rollback should have caught it all, so I don’t know what happened. I think I managed to get it all — the bits/bytes counts match! And, those anon edits, coupled with other instances of vandalism by that anon, brought her/him up to a Level 4, so I passed it on to WP:AIV. Hi there,

I see on your user page that you live in Montreal. I am going to assume that you have heard of Place Ville-Marie in asking you this question. The reports of the number of floors in Place Ville-Marie vary from 43 to 46. Do you, with your Montreal expertise, know the actual number of floors in this structure, or could you possibly visit this building to find out? Thanks,

Suggestions for improvement are at Talk:Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom/GA2, and are mainly to do with coverage and neutrality, and building the lead section. André Bessette

[edit]

Greetings! I noticed that you added Brother André to the Roman Catholic Saints category. I thought I would drop you a note before I did anything. I'm just not sure that this should be added yet, as he won't be canonized until October.

While I understand that all things being equal, he WILL become a Saint then, it is not yet done. The fact of the matter is that the Pope could have a heart attack, stroke or hit by a bus between now and then, and the next Pope could decide not to do it, or a myriad of other possibilities.

I'd just like to suggest that we hold off on adding this until it has happened.

What do you think? Dphilp75 (talk) 15:56, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you are a participant of the WikiProject Quebec.

The Outline of Quebec was created a few days ago and is under vigorous development. It fills a gap in Wikipedia's set of outlines. It is the 3rd outline to date about a Canadian province/territory.

Outlines form one of the subsystems of Wikipedia's contents navigation system. For more information on outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines.

The goals for the Outline of Quebec is to complete it to as high a standard of quality as possible, and to make it even better than the Outline of Saskatchewan and the Outline of British Columbia.

Once the Outline of Quebec is completed, it will provide an important example to others creating outlines for the remaining provinces and territories of Canada.

Please take a look at the outline to see if you can notice (and fill in) any missing topics. Pictures would also be nice (the rarer and the more interesting, the better).

Thank you.

Sincerely, The Transhumanist 10:26, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gallium etymology

I notice that you added to the Gallium article back in 2006 that F. A chemist at my institution is doing some research into this eytmology and this reference would be very useful. Thank you! MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Montrealais,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.206.39 (talk) 03:24, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Montreal question

While I've found numerous valid sources for the statement that alderman Joseph Schubert temporarily served as acting mayor of Montreal in 1927, I can't find a source which explains why the city needed an acting mayor in the first place. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gullah, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mende. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of List of municipalities in Barcelona

[edit]

The article List of municipalities in Barcelona has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

It simply duplicates information already present in Municipalities of Catalonia, which is far more detailed and up-to-date

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 21:38, 19 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection

[edit]

Hello, Montrealais. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

[edit]

Hi Montrealais.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement

[edit]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Hi -- I'm working on unreferenced articles and got to this one. The edit summary when you made this says "will expand when I get home" -- I was wondering whether you knew of any sources? I did find some on dishes known as "potlatch dishes" or "feast dishes" (e.g. this UBC entry) -- are those the same thing? Gnomingstuff (talk) 19:00, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, I don't recall what my sources were or any other useful information from 14 years ago 😅 Montréalais (talk) 22:18, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Expo 67 pavilions, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page La Ronde.

The Original Barnstar
I recently noticed a version of the woman article from 2005 that said "woman, etymologically means a 'wife of man', can be said to sum up a long history of dependence and subordination" among other questionable statements — which made sense when I realized the article was taken straight from the 1911 encyclopedia. LOL, no wonder it seemed so far off! Thanks for being the one to nix that 94-year-old paragraph about the role of women and for bringing Wikipedia a little bit more up to date. Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,
