Why did you revert my edit on November 4?
Please answer here.68.55.102.17 (talk) 23:57, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- I reverted your page because Americans can vote for other candidates, too - it was false information. Also, we try not to predict things about the future on date pages. Thank you. Mononomic (talk) 23:59, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I noticed other people were editing out unsourced NPOV material, or material that had been analysed in an original manner, and I noticed that almost the entire article is this way. Cheers! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.175.123.153 (talk) 02:54, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am assuming you are referring to the American-born Chinese article. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but thanks! Mononomic (talk) 02:56, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Well it looks like you added in the unsourced material, which I thought was frowned upon on Wikipedia. Frankly, a lot of the material looks like rubbish that you would not find in a scholarly journal or newspaper. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.175.123.153 (talk) 02:58, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I actually didn't add any new material. If I'm not mistaken, you deleted part of the article for no apparent reason (considered vandalism) and I reverted it to its previous state. Mononomic (talk) 03:01, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

No problem!! Nice to meet you Adam, you could take a random guess at who I am. ;)
I'll set up the adoption tomorrow, but first just a quick question..
What made you ask me to adopt you? iMatthew 03:05, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Nice job

So what do you have against whales?
So deleting inane comments such as the size of whales being the x largest thing in the Solar System and a misspelled rhetorical "Did You Know" question about the appearance Dolphins and "Totthed" whales is not allowed, is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.148.140 (talk) 03:21, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- I heart whales, but there are a couple of reasons why your addition was not useful. Firstly, it was placed in an incorrect section of the page. Secondly, it had no verifiable source. Thirdly, it is not very common or noteworthy comparing a whale to a Ford Mondeo. If you'd like to take a little bit more time and add in other useful information, I would encourage that. Thanks! Mononomic (talk) 03:24, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
What are you talking about? I'm the guy who deleted those comments. I'm not the one who made them. You're clearly confused. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.148.140 (talk) 03:36, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

MedCab
Well hi there. I'm new at the whole MedCab thing myself, but definitely keep an eye on the case and list yourself as a co-mediator. The only thing I would ask is that you not interject in the case (if the other user even decides to participate) until you and I have discussed it first. Does that sound okay to you? [ roux ] [x] 03:34, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds perfectly reasonable. Thank you! Mononomic (talk) 03:35, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Fantastic. Basically the way I approach MedCab is this: I know nothing. I am a blank slate upon which the people involved can project what they think. After they have stated their positions, I look into the matter and see what's going on. Then I try to get them to agree on little things before moving on to the main issue. All of this comes from advice from others, lest you think I came up with it on my own! One of the best suggestions I've been given is that once the dust has settled and an agreement has been reached, getting the disputants to collaborate on an article is a great way to help them work together in the future, as disputes tend to arise between users who edit the same constellation of articles. [ roux ] [x] 03:48, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Question!
I've noticed that a couple of people have a special messages on their edit pages, like when you edit User:Jimbo Wales. [(click here)]. How can I make one for myself to show a message? Thank you! Mononomic (talk) 04:11, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Quotes
Wikiquote is the place for quotes. Quote sections are trivia and to be avoided. There is no reason not to blank them from articles.139.48.25.60 (talk) 20:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with you. Wikipedia is not specifically designed for quotes, but it does (and can) contain a large amount of them. However, it is wise to discuss this (and any change) in the talk page of the article before making any changes. Otherwise, you can (and did) create an edit war. If you'd like to remove the trivia, please obtain a consensus beforehand. Your edits have been reverted. Thank you! Mononomic (talk) 23:08, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
2008-11-07 Big Ben
Recovered from the deletion log of User talk:Roux:
Hi there - I'm Mononomic, and I've been trying to get involved in the Mediation Cabal. I noticed that you have become a (the?) mediator for Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2008-11-07 Big Ben, and I was wondering if I could maybe be an assistant-mediator so I can kind of learn the ropes. If you have any advice for me about this, or other ideas, please feel free to let me know. Thanks for your time! Mononomic (talk) 03:23, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
I have a problem with some of the wording in the section: Mediator notes
- MedCab is not a formal part of the dispute resolution process, and cannot provide binding sanctions.
Nevertheless, I ask that everyone involved agree to:
- Abide by the outcome of this case
Immediately move to the next phase of dispute resolution if you are unable to agree with the final outcome
If I am going to take part in this -- I do not think this is the right forum, WP:ANI is more appropriate -- at a minimum the above needs striking out.
I am leery about taking part in this process because many times when administrators make decisions on controversial page moves there are people who query the outcome. If we Wikipedians had to go through this process for every one of these decisions that was questioned, the WP:RM system would become impossible to administer unless we to go back to simply counting the "votes" in a local poll. Please read the sections:
- Category talk:Transmitter sites in the United Kingdom#Further discussion
- User talk:Born2cycle#Big Ben move despite lack of consensus
- User talk:Chillysnow#Big Ben
and then get back to me if you think Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal is a suitable forum for discussions about the outcome of WP:RM decisions, or would a better solution be to wait six months (the traditional time between requests to revert WP:RM moves) and put in another request which will be considered by another administrator. The whole point of WP:RM requests is that unlike RfD's these moves can be reversed and no decision is final. --PBS (talk) 11:59, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I forgot to put in the strike out above. So I have just done so. I am disappointed that you have not read the above links,[1] because without reading them and Talk:Big Ben#Requested move, I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal is the appropriate forum for User:Chillysnow to present his/her grievance. [unsigned comment by Philip Baird Shearer 11:50, 10 November 2008 (UTC)]
I would be interested to here your comments on this. --User:Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 13:13, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Philip- after reading through the articles involved again, the talk pages you mentioned, and the logs of roux's user talk pages, I believe that this page move should not be discussed again for a number of months, and with a new set of mediators. I obviously have my opinion on the Big Ben/Clock Tower, Palace of Westminster debate, but it is not my place to share it here. It sounds to me like you do not want to participate in the Mediation Cabal case. I have added a new space in the case Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-11-07_Big_Ben for you to sign if you do not want to participate in the discussion. Please sign with ~~~~and I will close the case. This discussion should take place in a more formal mediation setting, but the complete cooperation of both you and Chillysnow would be required. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'd be happy to help you out. Thanks! Mononomic (talk) 15:49, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I signed the page. --PBS (talk) 13:06, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Closing shop
Hi :) I am closing shop. I asked all my sub-pages to be deleted except for my talk page and archives. Them I just blanked but thought I wouldn't ask for deletion in case someone really wanted to back check a conversation. But I am in process "closing" my account.
- Oh, I didn't realize that. Sorry for the trouble, and sad to hear you're leaving. Mononomic (talk) 19:59, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Please don't template the regulars. Thanks. And I have undone your revert; I was removing trivia. Gary King (talk) 20:12, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- I understand your concern. However, people have worked hard on that trivia (look at the edit history). You provided no notice whatsoever that you were going to remove the trivia. WP:TRIVIA provides more guidelines on trivia sections, and that they must "be considered temporary, until a better method of presentation can be determined". "This guideline does not suggest removing trivia sections, or moving them to the talk page. If information is otherwise suitable, it is better that it be poorly presented than not presented at all." I would have liked to seen the {{trivia}} (Template:Trivia) template in use. I kindly ask that you place said template on the page, restore the trivia section, and see what others have to say. Mononomic (talk) 20:18, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- By the way, I apologize for templating the regulars - I was not thinking. Mononomic (talk) 20:21, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

La Follette
Thanks for the work on the La Follette signature; it looks as good as I could ask. A pity that the original document was weak, but only so much can be done with a poor source :-) Nyttend (talk) 19:22, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- On the image's page, it says that you scanned it. If there's any chance that you have access to the documents and scan them again, let me know and I can help you out to get a better quality image. Good luck on your surgery. Cheers! Mononomic (talk) 19:26, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- I was working in the library archive (I'm a student there) on a now-completed project; the library head was Wikipedia friendly and didn't mind my doing small things like this (I scanned it after the end of the day's job), so I knew it was fine with him. However, this signature is on a delicate letter enclosed in plastic; it could be removed without much difficulty, but I seriously doubt that scanning the signature is a good enough reason to go into the archive and handle a delicate document :-) Anyway, since La Follette was a prominent enough figure, there should be other documents around with his signature on them. Thanks again for improving it! Nyttend (talk) 22:38, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh by the way, if you want, I can send you the entire original scan: it's 798×1124 pixels and a size of just 54.9KB. If you'd like to do this, select Email-This-User on my page, and I'll send it to you. Thanks again for your help! Nyttend (talk) 22:41, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Any reason why this is almost 100K? a SVG of something that simple shouldn't be so big. it has a huge binary blob inside of it as well, did it get vectored or is it just an embedded raster? Q T C 17:55, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Huge binary blob? I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. It's all paths and shapes, no raster data at all to my knowledge. Do you want to download the SVG and see what's the problem? 100K doesn't seem that big to me... Thanks! Mononomic (talk) 18:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- For a SVG, that's huge. And I'm referring to the <i:pgf id="adobe_illustrator_pgf"> CDATA section. For a comparable image see this svg that is only 4KB. Q T C 22:57, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- I went ahead and ripped out all of the cruft Adobe Illustrator puts in there, dropped the file size to 3KB. I'd suggest not using AI, or stripping out that section of the file when done editing. Q T C 23:05, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for letting me know. I'm used to working in print publications where nobody gives a darn about file size. How does one "strip out that section"? Thanks again for your help. Mononomic (talk) 00:09, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

One of your images appearing on DYK
Hi Monomic,
Just to let you know that one of your images, File:1968 Illinois earthquake.svg is going to appear on DYK in a few hours time, as I used it in my new article on Isoseismal map, thanks. Mikenorton (talk) 18:46, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
your map of the Illinois earthquake
Nice map.
There is an error. You show the international boundary as being the northern shoreline of the Great Lakes. It is not. The international boundary runs through the MIDDLE of those lakes.
Not meant to be mean.
Nick
Nick Beeson (talk) 06:23, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, you are correct. Apologies for the mistake. I've removed the international border lines until I can find a suitable source to replace them - WikiCommons doesn't seem to be turning anything up that has these boundaries accurately. Thanks for letting me know about this problem. Cheers! Mononomic (talk) 04:05, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, nice map. Can you tell me your process for creating that from the source GIFs that you cite? Thanks. --Kbh3rdtalk 18:17, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- Surely; it's really not too complicated.
- I basically found a US map and cropped it to the same size as the original GIF, then using the latitude/longitude and state capitols to get my bearings, trace around the same area. The end result is not exact, but I try to get it pretty close - probably 75% of the time I spent on this illustration is fidgeting with the curves to get them closer to the original file.
- It also helps to have the original GIF at 50% above what I'm working on, so I can stay faithful to the original image. Then I color and shade until it looks pretty. I wish I had a more traditional or easy-to-explain method, but that's about all I do! Mononomic (talk) 04:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I figured you were doing it "the hard way", but I had to ask. If that background map you found was the exact same shape as the original, i.e., the same projection, it should be possible to trace over the shape directly rather than eyeballing it and drawing freehand. It seems practically impossible to find out what projection is used most of the time. I've made a few SVG maps directly from GIS data, but there are lots of articles wanting maps for which there is no data, just a bitmap. I've tried the automated bitmap-to-SVG converter in Inkscape with varying degrees of success. Even when it looks okay, though, the file is usually oversized, and the shapes it generates are not really suitable for subsequent editing. Thanks. --Kbh3rdtalk 05:29, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Denver Stapleton Airport
I notice that you recently put on a tag that suggests there are copyright problems. Could you point to what you have in mind? One or more of the photos? Or, just some of the text? Your answer might help the corrections (if any are needed) to happen a lot faster. Thanks EditorASC (talk) 20:54, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Stapleton International Airport has a link under "Decommissioning" that links here. You'll notice that the paragraph before the link is copied and pasted directly from the linked site (not quoted, although it is referenced) and that the linked site says "© 2002, © 2009 by Paul Freeman. Revised 5/1/09." So that's definitely violating copyright. Pictures are OK, though, and so is the rest of the text. All that needs to happen is to re-write that text so it doesn't violate copyright, and then cite properly (there shouldn't be two links after the paragraph). Let me know if you need help. Mononomic (talk) 21:06, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I did a rough re-write of that paragraph and tweaked the link a bit too. About all I have time for now. You might want to do some more tweaking, especially since I am no expert on the best way to write the html in those links---still learning...
- Glad to know there weren't any problems with my three photos in that article. EditorASC (talk) 22:21, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

What the hell was this?
The IP was just asking a question, however, you marked it as vandalism. Could you explain why you thought it was vandalism? ConCompS (Talk to me) 00:21, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there Connor; I had misread the edit by 24.228.36.195 and thought it was a vandalism to Tide rolls' userpage. I was mistaken. Instead of reverting my own edits, adding a section heading, and signing the post for the IP, I let the edit be and left him a short introduction (see here) on his talk page. Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to User:Blackleopard11 has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please use the user warnings sandbox for any tests you may want to do, or take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. Thank you. You marked a new user's edit on their OWN SUBPAGE as vandalism. It looks like you did pretty similar to 24.228.36.195 less than a week ago. Therefore I'm just kind of giving you a little warning. Remember to always assume good fatith and NOT to bite newcomers. TheArguer (talk) 01:46, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm... I wouldn't say that this is necessarily a misuse of a template, because this is not the new user's own subpage, it's the subpage for their new account. You're right, though, I didn't go through the user's history to find out they were linked. By the way, how are my edits on User_talk:24.228.36.195 provocative? Orphaned non-free image File:Sunset-logo.svg
Thanks for uploading File:Sunset-logo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
PLEASE NOTE:
- I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
- I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
- If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.

Thanks for reverting the previous edit- this is a University IP address
Hello, This thank you , Mononomic for recently reverting back and changing Chunchula, Alabama. I'm not the poster of that, but I did get a message pop-up that said I was. This is probably because this IP address is a university IP and there are obviously some real douchey students making stupid edits. Anyways, thanks for the catch. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.85.216.184 (talk) 19:43, 12 December 2010 UTC
Thanks!
It's my pleasure. Welcome. Ruy Pugliesi◥ 01:46, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Strange!
I did not change or vandalize any article on Nintendo video games. Apparently this IP Address is being shared. I will try to have the IP Address changed by using a different hard drive. Otherwise I will ask Cablevision to change my IP Address. It should be noted by Wikipedians that this is a shared IP Address. Are they running out of numbers?

The article Majo (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Matthiasb (talk) 15:43, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
