Hello DoubleGrazing,
Thank you for your notice. Honestly, I did search the english wikipedia with the acronym CROSS (which is widely used in France) and found nothing at all, but I did not have the idea to search on the french name, not even translated.
The existing article seems correct but very poor (I.e. a template points to the need of larger references and reliable sources).
So I will try to improve it by merging with my version, which has been obtained by simple translation of the full french version. My choice was to translate the names and acronyms as much as possible, to make it easier to read for an english speaker. Otherwise you tell me to do the opposite, I will stick to this choice.
Can you tell me as well where I can indicate the translation sources in order to respect the authors rights ?

Adding your own commentary to articles

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:59, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jamie, no I do not pretend to publish original work. I have just made some links between data which are already in different topics in wikipedia.
The fact is that the experiment of the Foucault pendulum is the first one-place and immediately understandable experiment to prove the Earth’s rotation. Some people falsely conclude that it is the first proof at all, which is not the case. So my edit on the Foucault article today makes a link with a article on Jean Richer who more than 200 years earlier proved the Earth was rotating. I made a very similar edit on the french version, being a french native. In French wikipedia, the article on the scientist Galileo frankly writes that the Foucault pendulum is the first experiment to prove the Earth’rotation. I wanted to update this error but this page is protected because of religious vandalism.

Again, please read WP:SYNTH and additionally WP:LEDE. The introductory paragraph about Foucault pendulum doesn't need a lengthy aside/qualifier about other related works. If anywhere, mention of intreprations Richer's work should be added to the "explanation of mechanics" section, not the lede. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:15, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
