Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Orphaned non-free image File:Poster for a movie.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Poster for a movie.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. - FlightTime Phone (open channel) 17:22, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Chronological order preferable per WP:BIB
"Chronological entries are most suitable for bibliographies on topics with a long history of literature on the topic. Chronological entries allow the user to see a progression on works on the topic over time. Alphabetical listings are suitable for shorter bibliographies and those where the difference between the earliest and latest publication dates is not great."
Given this, I think chronological order in this instance (St. Augustine movement) is appropriate, and more helpful. Putting them in order by author doesn't help users. deisenbe (talk) 17:15, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- Deisenbe That quote is from Wikipedia:WikiProject Bibliographies § Recommended structure. That entire section is an essay. The beginning of that section states:
- "This page is an essay on style. It contains the advice and/or opinions of one or more WikiProjects on how to format and present article content within their area of interest."
- "This WikiProject advice page is not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community."
- I don't recognize this essay as Wikipedia policy. I also have never encountered any bibliography sections ordered in chronological order, only alphabetical order. Mitchumch (talk) 21:09, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Sorry!
At the end of March (sorry for the delay in responding!), you asked for "a link to a discussion for the formerly deleted article Chicago race riot of 1919". If you're asking about a discussion debate, there was none; rather, the article was deleted for procedural reasons. Specifically, we found that we needed to remove all articles which were sourced principally to the works of Jay Robert Nash. DS (talk) 22:54, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- DragonflySixtyseven It wasn't an emergency. I had never seen a redlink in the "Article milestones" section for any article. I only wanted to fix it if possible. Thank you. Mitchumch (talk) 23:06, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- Well, the milestones are incorrect. Deleted for procedural reasons involving unreliable sources and potential litigation (link to the Signpost entry); restored after problematic content removed. DS (talk) 23:15, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

General Updates
- WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art — Kevin (SuperHamster) and Maria (Rimmel.Edits) have been collaborating with Neal Stimler and the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) to launch WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art on the English Wikipedia! Back in January, the CMA announced its conversion into an Open Access institution—and part of this initiative included the upload of thousands of photos and Wikidata items on CMA artworks. This WikiProject has been created to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the CMA, such as artworks and artists featured in the Museum's collections, while being able to leverage the great resources that have been released into the public domain. If you'd like to join in, please sign up to be a member here. We have an expanding list of articles to create here.
- Mailing list live! — We now have admin access to the previously-deprecated Wikimedia-US-OH mailing list. All members are encouraged to subscribe here. Anyone who would like to communicate to subscribed members can email wikimedia-us-oh@lists.wikimedia.org.

Recent Events
- In April, two edit-a-thons were hosted at the Ohio State University:
- The Female and Under-represented Language Scientists edit-a-thon, hosted by the Hispanic Linguistic Colloquium in collaboration with the Buckeye Language Network (BLN) Student Association. The goal of the event was to improve articles on under-represented language scientists. 11 editors contributed 50+ edits that consisted of 1.54k words across 24 articles, including one new article.
- The Spanish & Portuguese Edit-A-Thon, hosted by students from the Spanish and Portuguese department (Dona pipoca and Caesarologia, with support from SuperHamster). The edit-a-thon focused on expanding coverage of Spanish and Portuguese topics on the English Wikipedia, primarily by translating articles from Spanish/Portuguese to English. In doing so, attendees sharpened their Spanish/Portuguese skills, gained experience editing Wikipedia, and learned about new topics. 23 editors contributed 180+ edits that consisted of 15.8k words across 70 articles, including four new articles.
- Wikimania 2019 took place in Stockholm this year, with several Ohio Wikimedians attending. If you're interested in some of the sessions, many of them were recorded and are available on the Commons here.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message
Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Ohio Wikimedians User Group: May 2020 newsletter
General Updates
I hope this message finds you well and in good health during these trying times. Below is a list of some online activities that you may be interested in participating in.
- The Wiki Global Check In has started! This initiative is gathering check-ins from Wikimedians all around the world, and asks for a photo that captures something related to life in your context or part of the world during the pandemic.
- WALRUS (Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States) is now hosting virtual meetings twice a month on Monday evenings. This is a place to discuss anything Wikimedia, as well as a place for Wikimedians to come together and mutually support each other. The next virtual meeting should be on Memorial Day, May 25th. You can sign up for the Wikimediaus-l mailing list to stay up to date on all WALRUS happenings and to receive meeting invites.
- Wikipedians have been busy documenting the pandemic. In Ohio, we have articles on the pandemic in Ohio and in Columbus (the latter of which was written by our newest Ohio Wikimedians member, Ɱ!). If interested, you're encouraged to help update and expand these articles, or even consider creating articles documenting the pandemic in other Ohio metro areas.
- If you miss visiting your local museums, don't forget that the Cleveland Museum of Art's entire collection is available online and in the public domain (when permissible). Our WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art is currently tracking 44 English Wikipedia articles and 40,322 images, which are now acquiring over 2,000,000 views a month. If you're interested in contributing, there is still plenty of work to be done to expand and create new articles!
Movement Strategy
- The finalized Movement Strategy Recommendations have been published! This is a clarified and refined version of the recommendations that were released in January.
- You can view the full recommendations at m:Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Recommendations.
- They are also available in PDF and audio format.
- A quick one-page summary is available here.
- The Wikimedia Summit 2020 that was to occur in April was canceled, and Wikimedia Deutschland will not be hosting a virtual replacement. In its stead, Ryan Merkley, members of the movement strategy core team, and external consultants are exploring options to move the contents of the conference into a series of virtual events.

Your suggested article title Freedom (American newspaper)
In regards to the title of what is presently titled Draft:Freedom (Robeson magazine): I would accept Freedom (American newspaper), because it is certainly preferable to Freedom (Robeson magazine). However, I am unenthusiastic about this proposed article title.
In further advocacy of the title that I propose, Freedom (African–American newspaper) (although I see that Wikipedia and many other sources are now omitting the hyphenated designation in favor of African American with no hyphen), I note that the article African-American newspapers refers to "the first African-American periodical called Freedom's Journal" in its lead paragraph. The article whose title we are discussing took its name from the name of that periodical (as the article itself notes). The lead of the article on Freedon's Journal states: "Freedom's Journal was the first African-American owned and operated newspaper published in the United States." That is, it gives further emphasis to "African-American."
I think that Freedom (American newspaper) hedges these associations, which would be an unfortunate result of giving the article that title. I think it is more specific and more accurate to use the title that I propose, Freedom (African–American newspaper) (or Freedom (African American newspaper), in keeping with evolving standards). Under either name, I look forward to this newspaper's inclusion in the article List of African-American newspapers and media outlets, which is presently unaware of it.
Thank you for your consideration. Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 02:57, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Larrykoen I will respond on the Draft talk:Freedom (Robeson magazine) page. Mitchumch (talk) 06:18, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- I understand your rationale for Freedom (American newspaper), and it makes sense. So I will be happy to accept it. Can you make the change? I've already the PAGENAME. (And here's the link, if that makes it more convenient: Draft:Freedom (Robeson magazine). Also, thank you for your prompt response to my concerns. Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 19:56, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
Birmingham in the civil rights movement
- Would it be possible for you to create a stub or start article for Birmingham that could provide an overview of people, organizations, events, or local places that were pertinent to the civil rights movement in Birmingham. Please see Template:CRM in Alabama. I've been adding existing and need to be written articles into the template. I will eventually create a separate sidebar for Birmingham. If you want to add anything to the template or want to create stubs or start articles for anything else connected to the civil rights movement in Birmingham, then that would be appreciated. Mitchumch (talk) 22:34, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- I'm interested in seeing Wikipedia better cover the topic of Birmingham in the civil rights movement, but I'm focused on my efforts to document the area on Bhamwiki. If it helps, all of the content on Bhamwiki is published under a license compatible with Wikipedia, so if you want to borrow from the work I and others have done there, it should be fairly easy to do so. Bhamwiki:Civil Rights Movement is probably a good place to start. I expect we'll have some improvements to the Fred Shuttlesworth entry soon as my wife has been reading the Manis biography. --Dystopos (talk) 20:39, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Stop removing "African American" from articles
STOP removing this term for no reason when it is a legitimate term that is used appropriately. Even worse, you then lie about it by leaving a deceptive edit summary claiming that you "replaced" a term. If you continue this disruptive editing, you could lose your editing privileges. Sundayclose (talk) 23:07, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- Sundayclose The term African-American civil rights movement is NOT the WP:Common name for that historical event; it is an uncommon name. Please see Talk:Civil rights movement/Archive 13#Requested move 18 February 2018. I am also a member of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Civil Rights Movement. Please stop undoing my edits without discussion. Mitchumch (talk) 23:21, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- Apologies, as I was unaware of the discussion. Although I disagree with your edit, I will not go against consensus. A word of advice, however: Make your edit summaries clearer. I think you should link the discussion, but at a minimum you should explain why you are removing the term. Thanks for the information. Sundayclose (talk) 23:33, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

- Here again, we are talking about a guideline, not a policy. And even in the discussion the consensus is not overwhelming. It depends on what is being sourced. If it was a highly technical matter, probably not. But for something pertaining to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, it's acceptable. Feel free to replace it with a better source. Sundayclose (talk) 01:04, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- Sundayclose I presented you with a community consensus of the reliability of History.com from a Wikipedia noticeboard. Around 32 users stated their position on that noticeboard question. I rewrote the last sentence of the paragraph using a different source. I assume you would consider the U.S. Senate a reliable source. The paragraph needs such a strong statement to highlight the profound impact of the act that is described later in the article. Feel free to tweak the wording, but if you disagree with any of this, this certainly is a matter that you should discuss on the article's talk page so that frequent editors of the article can be aware.
