Re:Book update

For the image, we should use something that is the most representative of New Jersey's roads. A good picture to use would be of the Turnpike or the Parkway (Here are six images I found) since they are the state's most noted roads. Here is a nice black and white picture of the Pulaski Skyway which would look cool. Re:What's next on the article list for you?

I'm sorry 347 is not my best work; it was hard to find decent information about this route. The next article I would likely work on would probably be another Interstate, maybe 195 or 280. You said you would do 1 Business, and I guess I could do 9W, even though its mostly a NY route. You can probably finish the remaining state routes, since they are all minor or former (By the way, you forgot 171). That leaves the Turnpike and Parkway, CR 506 and 563, as well as Ocean Drive and Great Bay Boulevard (the latter I feel is mentioned in 87 pertaining to S4A). ---Dough4872 16:21, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Northern Branch article

Hey. It seems based on your recent edits that you are planning a major expansion to also cover in detail the line's history as a passenger line during the Erie/Erie Lackawanna days. I'm rolling back your change for now for three reasons.

Firstly, as a matter of procedure, such a major change would best be done in your sandbox, where you can tweak anything in your proposed expansion before making changes to the article piecemeal, which can be confusing to readers coming to the article for the first time.

Secondly, the light rail extension planned for the line is of such great difference from the historic operations, and the current limited freight moves, that it should probably be a separate article. That way the history doesn't overshadow the newer, rather different material, which has a habit of happening where railroads are concerned.

Thirdly, railroad articles are not supposed to have more than one route map template on them, which would happen if the currently commented out template were put in. As an aside, that template is the wrong color. Blue is for rapid transit/light rail systems, not regular lines that are part of the national rail network. It should also include the Erie's Pavonia Terminal, which is where trains stopped for most of the lines history.

I will gladly look over anything you may cook up in this history, but, as I said, I believe it belongs in a separate article. I'd call it the Northern Railroad of New Jersey (which remained its legal name until the Erie Lackawanna merger, btw), and write it in you sandbox first.oknazevad (talk) 20:55, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Roads/Streets

Sorry if you feel in some way that "the project" (which you don't specify, but I assume is Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Streets, is somehow being cluttered with stubs. I generally do not add my articles to projects, though I have done so. Others haved picked them up and added them to the road project. As you noticed I am interested in streets. Streets are a part of the geography, history, and culture of a place. The one I'm particularly interested in is Hudson County: It location, the lay of the land, it's borders, and infrastructure are part of the story. Most of my articles about streets are connected well linked to others, particularly in articles related to neighborhoods, transporation, in sections regarding muncipal boundaries or historical events. As the body of information grows the sketches that are there will also grow. An good example, whether ör not it is to your interest or taste or fits into the parameters of "the project" is Summit Avenue (Hudson County), which is part of Streets in Hudson County, which in turn is part of Geography of Hudson County and Category:Streets in New Jersey I think a general reader will find more appeal in such an article than in one that goes on for paragraghs with statements like "at the red light it takes a right and travels for an quarter mile and merges with two lane state road before veering south where at the intersection the sidewalk is replaced by a soft shoulder". As you know many streets have more than one county or state designation, a notable street, Boulevard East, being one of the them. To divide it into its three designations would be ineffective, not do it justice, and well, dumb. 14th Street (Hoboken), Hackensack Plank Road, Paterson Plank Road carry designations, and have much room to be expanded. Do they fit?. Looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Streets, some may indeed qualify, and I'll likely add them. I don't believe in tail wagging the dog. Information does not need to fit into "projects" is the shoe doesn't fit. If its important to to reduce the number of stubs, why?Djflem (talk) 23:10, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 and Dermatology-related content

I noticed that you are participating in the 2010 WikiCup. I have been working on the Bolognia push which is a project to make sure Wikipedia has an article (or redirect) on every know cutaneous condition. Northeast Cooridor Line

Reason I picked 1983 for the closed stations section was 3 fold. Firstly, North Rahway was already there, and that, iinm, is the only station to close since 83. 1983 seems like a logical cutoff to me, because it's also the cutoff used for improvements in the previous section. Which I admit I also chose, bu it seems to me that, since the article covers specifically NJT's service, not the line as a whole (a change in focus I agree with), the articles scope should cover the time since NJT took over operation. oknazevad (talk) 01:25, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Hunter Kahn (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. Welcome We’re excited to announce that User:Presidentman has joined WikiProject Saskatchewan as our Editor in Chief. Presidentman will oversee editorial content and the Saskatchewan Wikiproject community contributions on the Wikiproject newsletter. Presidentman has also successfully developed the Picture of the Day project and has been active on wikipedia for close to three years in a plethora of projects enriching wikipedia with close to 3,000 contributions. The transition between our old editor and the new has been smoother than any of us could have hoped for — SriMesh wrote their last newsletter article for January, 2010, and Presidentman started up without missing a beat for February 2010. Request if you have any info or maps...

If you have any time I was wondering if you had any maps or information on Interstate 90, the non-thruway section in Albany. In particular I'm looking for information on exit 5 and Everett Road Extension. The particulars is that Everett Road originally was called Watervliet Avenue and went by bridge over the West Albany Rail Yard to meet up with the Watervliet Ave in Albany by way of what is currently called Sand Creek Road;(this all confirmed on USGS maps from 1898, 1928, and 1958) I'm trying to figure out in roughly what year that bridge was eliminated and the road was split, resulting in (for whatever reason) Watervliet Ave in the town of Colonie gaining the name Everett Road, with the new section being name Everett Road Ext. FTC doesn't have the same drive-by rules as FAC. The recommendations at WP:FT? state that "Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination." I did this back in July, and as I felt your reasoning for not liking the nomination was unsound ("don't want it to become a GT" basically) I think I'm allowed to go ahead and nominate. If anyone else voting agrees with your reason for not liking it, then they can oppose the nomination for this reason.

I didn't realise you were having problems with FA, sorry. But as I said in the supplementary nomination, I still think the topic is better with the articles added than without them - rst20xx (talk) 18:21, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

The Cornish Democrats

Hello there

I'm the gentleman who wrote a brief article about The Cornish Democrats political party yesterday. I'm afraid that I'm largely unfamiliar with the protocols of authoring articles on Wikipedia, so sorry if I got it badly wrong, but as a novice I thought I would try and work through all the techno stuff that's required.

I was disappointed having set aside a lot of time on my day off (and trying hard to do the right thing) only to have a deletion notice served on my article, rapidly followed by a deletion before I'd even had the chance to address the technical issues.

As a non-geek user of Wiki I have to confess I have absolutely no idea whether the article was deleted simply because it didn't fulfil a set of checkbox criteria.

Anyway the long and the short of it is that I am the Party Leader of The Cornish Democrats - a party that will be contesting seats at the forthcoming general election in the UK, and I felt it was important that I provide a certain amount of information about the party on Wiki particularly since even the joke parties and defunct parties in the UK seem to have universal coverage on Wikipedia.

Any advice would be much appreciated - I realise that there's no point in my wasting a lot of time in writing things that are relevant to a UK audience, if somebody else in another part of the world is likely to delete it again.

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Hunter Kahn (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.

Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three.
