Administrators' newsletter – April 2018
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2018).

- Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
- Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
- The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
- The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.
- There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.
- The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.
- A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.
Alice Dacuba
[edit]Hi, I don't know if anyone ever got back to you from the functionaries list, but I'm trying to understand how a CU on Corinne (talk · contribs · count) will help confirm that Alice has died. CUs are sometimes done to determine whether an account is compromised, but that isn't case here. Perhaps you could explain your thinking? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:44, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- No; last I heard, my email was awaiting moderation. Per WP:DWG#On verification,
"If a user's death is announced on wiki by someone claiming to be a relation or a friend of the deceased, a checkuser may be conducted to authenticate such a claim."
Although I haven't been able to Google an obituary, I'm afraid (but am not positive; I don't know how to contact Alice's sister) that it's not a hoax. I figured that Carol's IP may be similar to Corinne's. Miniapolis 20:36, 1 April 2018 (UTC)- I could check whether Carol's IP is similar, but it'd be nice to know more about who lived where. Siblings don't always live in the same place. Carol's IP geolocates to Newport, Tennesse, but the location isn't completely reliable because it's apparently a wireless IP. Do you have any idea where Corinne lived?--Bbb23 (talk) 21:47, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- Bbb23, according to the two-line announcement in the newspaper link provided below by Tdsik, Alica Dacuba lived in Hendersonville, NC. Does that correlate with Corinne's location? There isn't exactly an obituary, and it sounds like funeral arrangements are still underway. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:46, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: It probably doesn't matter at this point, but I'd rather not publicly disclose her location.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:36, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

- Hi, Miniapolis. There's a brief obituary here: http://www.morganton.com/obituaries/dacuba-alice/article_9b6485c3-4a8d-59fd-a3ce-a06acbfe3736.html. Tdslk (talk) 22:33, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- Well, if Corinne's not dead, imagine how delighted she'll be when she logs in and finds all those wonderful appreciations from her fellow editors! It's a nice fantasy, anyway. EEng 09:35, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
