Hey Milo I'm off on a late Christmas vacation this week
[edit]Do you think you could do the year-end list? I suppose it doesn't need to happen, since Ed already made his blog about it, but it would be nice to keep traditions alive. Serendipodous 11:16, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- yes, I can do one this week!--Milowent • hasspoken 01:43, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Your're not a scifi geek, are you? :-)
[edit]I can tell, or your obit for John Hurt would have been a lot longer. :-)
Anyhoo, I agree it may be time for both of us to jump this ship. I think we've both been doing it for long enough, and we need to start pushing the idea that other people can and should do it. I really would love to see the report live on without us, but it needs to leave the nest first. Serendipodous 18:23, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- well, not movies or TV sci-fi. I devoured stacks of Heinlein, Asimov, etc., in my youth. I felt slightly bad not to say more about the guy, but he really is a blank slate to me personally. As to the report, not wanting to see it die is what is keeping me around. I wonder if it could be more automated in any way. E.g., if we had a raw source like the most edited list, it could be tweaked quickly to remove bad entries, and new editors could perhaps be lured more easily to take over?--Milowent • hasspoken 18:40, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Well done

- That man from Nantucket, haha. Thanks for pointing me to this excellent journalism. I didn't comment in that article, but I see I'm quoted as the last sentence of the article. Now I can quote myself as quoted in the Post for the next Signpost In the Media column!--Milowent • hasspoken 01:03, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Chaddsford Winery
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Chaddsford Winery, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 01:59, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks
[edit]...for your gracious response in the Signpost comments. I can certainly understand how one might aim for a harmless joke and unintentionally end up with something sort of reactionary – I think it might be the result of the weird phenomenon where a lot of mainstream Internet culture is filtered down from 4chan and/or the more noxious parts of Reddit. (For what it's worth, I find that Know Your Meme is often very helpful in identifying the origins of these things.) Keep up the good work, on the Signpost and elsewhere. All the best, – Arms & Hearts (talk) 21:22, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
This is to inform you that an attempt is being made to overturn an RfC that you voted on
[edit]This is to inform you that an attempt is being made to overturn an RfC that you voted on (2 RfCs, actually, one less than six months ago and another a year ago). The new RfC is at:
Specifically, it asks that "religion = none" be allowed in the infobox.
The first RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:
- 15 June 2015 RfC: RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.
The result of that RfC was "unambiguously in favour of omitting the parameter altogether for 'none' " and despite the RfC title, additionally found that "There's no obvious reason why this would not apply to historical or fictional characters, institutions etc.", and that nonreligions listed in the religion entry should be removed when found "in any article".
The second RfC that this new RfC is trying to overturn is:
- 31 December 2015 RfC: RfC: Religion in infoboxes.
The result of that RfC was that the "in all Wikipedia articles, without exception, nonreligions should not be listed in the Religion= parameter of the infobox.".
Note: I am informing everyone who commented on the above RfCs, whether they supported or opposed the final consensus. --Guy Macon (talk) 03:22, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Invitation to join WikiProject Organized crime
[edit]Hello, Milowent.
You are invited to join WikiProject Organized crime, a WikiProject and resource dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Organized crime. |
This was a song-and-dance musical theatre genre from 1892 (before Edward) to about 1925 (after Edward) in both England and America. Many Edwardian musicals premiered on Broadway. A Parisian Model has a very typical Edwardian musical comedy plot about an heiress who loses (but gets back) her lover due to a misunderstanding about the money. Identifying the genre (with the link) will help our readers place the show in context. Also, it seems fairly obvious, that the show was inspired by another Edwardian musical, An Artist's Model, which also took advantage of the provocative idea of nude models posing onstage behind easels to hide the nudity. And, of course, it had the typical Edwardian musical girls chorus line doing signature dances. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:31, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind message on my Talk page. Perhaps we should do an article about the Ziegfeld Follies of 1907? -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:43, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

- Now there is an AfD page where you can comment: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Liza Koshy (actress) -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:48, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- Ssilvers, thanks for stopping the hasty and uncivil speedy attempt. I came back by to see if an AfD was inevitable considering the past drama around the article. On the upside, having a full AFD will establish consensus on this one to avoid further warring.--Milowent • hasspoken 13:43, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
I think that Koshy has been notable since the first season of Freakish was released, but none of the editors working on the article were experienced enough to use the best references and defend the notability at AfD. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:03, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- Do you think there is anything useful here that we ought to add? Ssilvers (talk) 08:24, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
History guy
[edit]Since you're a "history guy" (buff), help out to try and improve Eagleville, Nevada if you'd like, a new article I created today. Sources are a bit difficult to come by, but they're out there. North America1000 22:56, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Yesss!!! Thank you for the addition. North America1000 15:38, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hey, North America, here is a weird quirk/mystery to work out -- the GNIS has TWO eagleville, NV towns listed. The other is not far away from the first but slightly to the north in Churchill County. [1]. And some old sources refer to Churchill County. Here [2] is a 1910 topo map (excerpted on Rawhide, Nevada) which shows Eagleville due east of Rawhide, where we think it should be -- in what was then Esmeralda County, Nevada before Mineral County was created in 1911. That 1910 map doesn't show another eagleville north of Rawhide, though the 1919 Nevada state highway map shows it there! [3]. My guess - so far- is that there is only one Eagleville but the location was not always tracked exactly -- the county lines on the 1919 highway map are not as precise as they should be.--Milowent • hasspoken 19:48, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
- That is interesting. Well, for starters, I've copied your post directly above to Talk:Eagleville, Nevada. I suppose it would be best to discuss there, so others may eventually see the discussion. Let me know if discussing this there is all right with you... North America1000 13:46, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- Of course! At some point someone will figure it out!--Milowent • hasspoken 13:48, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- Cool. I'll ping you to the talk there page shortly. North America1000 13:49, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
