Air India B747 flight that exploded wasn't from Montreal but Toronto to London onwards to India

Reference needed

[edit]

Hi, you recently added some information to Frederic Austin. Any chance of a reference? Or maybe you want I should revert your unsubstantiated edits, as an IP? That would be quite funny, actually, considering the general tenor of this talk page. >MinorProphet (talk) 22:14, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Destination Maps

[edit]

Could you provide a link to a disscussion where the consensus reached is to not have destination maps listed? As I am having trouble with 2 users as they continue to add destination maps to Nuuk Airport, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and Zurich Airport. RMS52 (talk) 09:24, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

RMS52 if you put "Destination Maps" in the talk page search window on the airport talk page you will see a few discussions on the subject. Perhaps in the ongoing discussion on that talk page we need to get a clear agreement to make a definitive statement at Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/page content about these maps. EgyptAir Flight 667

[edit]

G'day. EgyptAir Flight 667 popped up on my Watchlist yesterday as a newly-created article. The fact that it is on my Watchlist suggests that it is a reincarnation of a deleted article. Are you able to use your powers to see what the situation is? Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 03:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

YSSYguy It was deleted as a creation by banned User:Ryan kirkpatrick so probably needs to be proded and/or put up for deletion as not really notable. This edit to his own userpage seems very odd, and seems like flaunting that he's been blocked on another username. Most of his other edits aren't productive either, especially on others' talk pages. A Checkuser might prove interesting. - BilCat (talk) 02:04, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I actually wasn't certain they were the same, so thanks for checking it out enough for a duck block. I was headed to bed when I posted, so I didn't have enough time to look deeply myself. It's funny what people think they can get away with, but I guess some are like Ryan K and think it's a game. - BilCat (talk) 11:52, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • User:Nrwairport appears to be another one, same harassment of YSSY, and same false claims on user page of being an admin, ,etc. - BilCat (talk)
Certainly strange behaviour from somebody who claims to have had over 500,000 edits in a former account, but I am not seeing enough to prove it one way or the other, I suspect from the way he is starting to annoy others with deletion messages that it will not be long before they upset the wrong people. MilborneOne (talk) 09:55, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It does appear I'm wrong on that one, the user has claimed they lost their password on the account that has 500,000 edits, and has a better grasp of English than this sock farm. The unprovoked harassment of YSSY is still odd in this case. - BilCat (talk) 19:50, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:Nrwairport has been indef blocked for disruptive editing and NOTHERE. The appeal might make interesting reading, assuming the user doesn't just create a new account. - BilCat (talk) 16:11, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, his appeals and the subsequent discussions wthe.reviewing admins and other editors was very interesting! The end result was a complete indefinite block, per this diff. Btw, the sock investigation proved he wasn't related to the Cyntiamaspian sock farm, but did turn up one sock of his, which oddly only made sandbox edits. Hopefully he will stay away, but I doubt it. - BilCat (talk) 11:19, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It shows what happens when you dig yourself a big hole, instinct says that if they was here before they have been blocked before. MilborneOne (talk) 11:36, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that was the consensus of the admins/editors on his talk page. The RFA attempt was just plain strange though. I had a look at an article he edited, American Airlines, and there are at least two users who edited that page who were blocked for being disruptive. I didn't try to compare the edits, but I might later. I'll try to watch a few on the other articles he edited, and see if a new user shows up making similar edits. - BilCat (talk)
Just for stalker info User:AyuLestri91 - new account claims to be a Adminstrator and goes straight to the BBJ articles and reverts User:YSSYguy, bagged and tagged and raised at SPI. MilborneOne (talk) 20:56, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Mb, the two are clearly the same person - AyuLestri91 has gone out of his way to create a false edit summary, just as Agustinus did with most of his edits. I have been through my edits to the BBJ article, I have been through my User contributions and I did not make an edit with Revision number 676323188 anywhere on WP. This edit to my own Talk page on 16 August is Rev. No. 676314549; this is the next edit I made, eight hours later, Rev. No. 676358042. The edit summary is the work of an experienced User in my opinion. However, AyuLestri91's edit was correct, in that the MMO of a 747 is M0.92 or M.90 depending on the model; but it was Agustinus that changed the figure, in one of his edits on 24 July. I find it all rather bizarre. YSSYguy (talk) 22:18, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page already attempted...

[edit]

Hello Milborne One! Sorry to disturb You "at home" - but If You take a look at the talk-page of F-35, You can see that I already have tried that. If there is something undue, is it simply due to the fact that I have not been able to find any American or NATO comments. I have searched around, but cannot find more neutral sources than Swedish "Svenska Dagbladet". And also pointed out in the text, that it indeed is Russian and written in propaganda formate. It could be balanced with opposite statements, and be better NPOV in that way. But as I've stated, I can't find US or NATO comments. So, OK the destoyer part is perhaps not importaint regarding the F-35, but isn't really not the Borisoglebsk 2 worth mentioning in this context ? "Svenska Dagbladet" is probably the most reliable Swedish newspaper (And dispite its pysical format is it a morning paper, not a tabloid. Perhaps could I make a shorter version ? Boeing720 (talk) 21:19, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm new here in the last 4 weeks. I've done some air aces and started doing some SOE agents. I'm not very good with IT but I'm trying to learn as quickly as I can. On my latest biog which is Ted Thorn DFC & Bar DFM & Bar it has been rated and somebody has asked for a photo of him although there is one there already. Please can you advise how I let them know. Thanks for your help. Researcher1944 Researcher1944 (talk) 16:26, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carefull with the number of reverts SI4, unless it is outright vandalism then it can get you into trouble so you did right to ask for help. The IP needs to find a reliable source for the additions so as you say it needs to go to the talk page, I would also suggest that it is probably adding to much detail for what in the history of the F-16s is not a big deal and we have to take care of weight and balance within the article. Pippa Middleton

[edit]

You should not remove the Ancestry section on the Pippa middleton page unless you remove the Ancestry section on the mark shand page. both mark and pippa are the siblings of a future queen of the UK.

Please sign you posts, I have no idea who Mark Shand is and it is not relevant to the discussion on the Pippa Middleton page. MilborneOne (talk) 16:06, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not signing. To many people, Mark Shand is a very obscure, yet "noteable" person; this is why, as you say, you haven't heard of him. Mark Shand has his own ancestry section because he is the brother of the future queen of the UK - Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, nee Camilla Shand. Please do not remove his ancestry section on his page - many people interested in history are well aware of his place in history as a sibling to a queen consort. Pippa Middleton is both an in-law to a monarch (Prince William) and the aunt of a future monarch (Prince George of Cambridge). All the best and I hope we have cleared things up for you.Srbernadette (talk) 22:06, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So clearly neither of them like 99.99% of biogs on wikipedia needs an "ancestry" section. MilborneOne (talk) 17:35, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:Kezzer16 has been posting many links to You Tube videos of music across many Wikipedia articles. I examined the videos and found that they all were uploaded by one Tube User, Alasdair from the UK, and that the music videos all appear to be copyright violations. WP:COPYLINK is very clear that we cannot link to even suspected copyright violations. WP:SPAM and WP:ELNO many also play here, since the placement of all these You Tube links seem to add up to a promotional campaign. I removed many of the links citing WP:COPYLINK and WP:SPAM, but User:Kezzer16 quickly reverted my removals. We have had a discussion on my talk page, but he is asserting that I have prove that these are copyright vios to remove them, etc. I'll let you read his arguments in detail there.

Here are some sample diffs for the insertion of the links: [13], [14] and [15]

The You Tube account is uploading many songs with the annotation "I recieve no monetary remuneration for my videos, those of you who like what I do can support me through: https://www.patreon.com/alasdair?ty=h" which links to a solicitation for money. It seems from the notes there that the uploader does not own the rights to all these, nor are they freely licenced or licenced under iTunes by Google for upload.

I know you have a good grounding in copyright issues, so can I ask you to review this situation and offer your take on it? - Ahunt (talk) 19:23, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first one I looked at one You Tube of the Edinburgh Tattoo was a clearly copied from the BBC Broadcast so I would think that Alisdair doesnt really understand copyright (or they may not care on You Tube) and certainly we should not be linking to any of his videos without a proper provenance. Perhaps ask User:Moonriddengirl for advise as she knows all about copyright issues. MilborneOne (talk) 21:45, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a note for the user explaining why the content cannot be used and removed the content. The uploader's self-description as "Just someone who loves history, language, culture and music" gives us all too much reason to reasonably suspect copyvio, as does his claim to copyright ownership of the work of a broad swathe of artists, including album cuts from professional musicians. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:29, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Film Cabal problems

[edit]

Any idea where to raise this issue? The film cabal has been overruled on a number of occasions at AFD, as their guidelines violate GNG, and their custom notice is misleading. I'm not sure where to take this to get a neutral hearing. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 17:43, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hum, not sure either when we as a project do this sort of thing we get jumped all over so it is clear the WP:GNG overules whatever a project thinks. The only place I can think of is Wikipedia talk:Notability and raise the issue that subject specific notability guide cant over rule the GNG (which is what we keep being told!). MilborneOne (talk) 17:54, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) (talk page stalker) I have come across this type of project issue, and been equally stumped. I am keeping an eye on that particular page now as well, though. I do know a project consensus or policy can not trump WP guidelines. ScrpIronIV 17:55, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Support what you are doing and have replied on article talk page. MilborneOne (talk) 10:29, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Mjroots, conspiracy theories are being pushed, attempting to present them as credible scientific discourse, and I am trying to expose them for what they are. MilborneOne, would you mind commenting on my latest edit (diff), which keeps getting reverted? Essentially, I've moved all the parts of the article about assassination theories under a properly-titled section, also considerably trimming it down to comply with WP:UNDUE, and it's all supported by reliable sources (BBC, NY Times etc). It still references the report that is the main source of the conspiracy theory camp (plus another academic source), so the minority point of view should be sufficiently covered. --Deeday-UK (talk) 19:44, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Following a request at my talk, I've now locked the article indefinitely. User:VCCCRML and Colombo's domestic airport

[edit]

Hi! It looks like User:VCCCRML is simply a sockpuppet of User:ColomboAirportRatmalana, both implicitly representing the airport. The latter account was indefed on October 22 due to username issues, and the new account (ICAO+IATA codes) similarly ignores collaboration and was created on October 29 just to create a second article to his previous (but disallowed) preferred formats. Maybe this new account needs to be indefed as well and the article needs to be somewhat protected. HkCaGu (talk) 07:51, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks User:HkCaGu, I have protected both articles from being changed and asked User:VCCCRML to explain why they think the article is wrong. If they are disruptive again they will be blocked without further explanation. MilborneOne (talk) 09:15, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

VCCCRML thanks for the comment, first you need to understand that we don't have a concept of "my page" on Wikipedia, Wikipedia can be edited by anybody so nobody controls the page. We don't create duplicate articles and you need to understand that we already have an article on Ratmalana Airport. If you think that fact or information in that article are wrong then you need to explain what you don't like at Talk:Ratmalana Airport and it can be discussed, if other editors think you are right then the page can be changed. So your next step is to make a list of your concerns on that talk page so you can discuss it with other editors, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 10:32, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Only issue is when i make accurate information one editor all the time aggressively reject those information. If you refer the content of the page added under my name and exiting (previously introduced) page is totally filled with very basic information. you can just compare and see the accuracy level of the given information. Therefore i request you to understand the importance of these information and make the justice on my request. Please kindly go through the content of the page of "Colombo Airport Ratmalana, Sri Lanka" and please understand the accuracy level of that content. Awaiting the activation of this page to improve further with more valid and accurate information.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Virgin Atlantic parent company

[edit]

There is a user continuing to add Delta as a parent company to Virgin Atlantic in addition to Virgin Group as a parent company as Delta only owns 49% shares of VS. Can you take a look? Citydude1017 (talk) 09:09, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I don't know how WP:AIRLINES usually handles this issue, but it should have come up somewhere before. I have two parents, so why can't a company? But part of the issue seems to be the use of Parent in the infobox, with no other parameters listed for ownership. I don't really see it as a big issue, but perhaps an ownership field can be added to the infobox master. - BilCat (talk) 09:24, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I dont have a clue but it probably means you are an agent of the Indian government trying to stop ground images of glorious fighter from being displayed. MilborneOne (talk) 21:45, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Either that or he's the Indian and I'm supposed to Pakistani. - BilCat (talk) 21:53, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

B-25 and Pittsburgh crash

[edit]

I am willing to have a discussion on the crash, on the talk page. I put my reasoning under the accident and incidents and I don't know if you ignore it or didn't see it but. The fact that you stated that very idea of using the talk page is even more confusing Feickus (talk) 18:31, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Feickus[reply]

Sorry I didnt see it, I have now commented, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 18:34, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

M16 rifle

[edit]

Michael, an IP is edit warring to remove info on the M16 rifle article without explanation. I've warned for deletions and 3RR (6RR now!). Could you look into semi-protecting and/or blocking? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 19:34, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adding UK to home countries

Hi MilborneOne.

Gary here! Sorry for the confconfusion on deleting your comment. In relation to the subject of the United Kingdom. I would be grateful if we could agree on it because it means a lot having the union mentioned on the pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GaryFG8125 (talkcontribs) 23:12, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Brussels Airlines

Thanks for protecting the article. My request has been declined twice at WP:RPP [16].--Jetstreamer Talk 17:51, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Belgian Typhoon

[edit]

Milborned, would this site[17] pass muster for Belgium's use of a single Typhoon airframe for training purposes? It includes the aircraft serial, and airframe history until it was scrapped. ScrpIronIV 20:46, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that but having an old airframe for training does not really make them an operator. MilborneOne (talk) 20:48, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) While a quite intriguing bit of "hidden history" this wouldn't fit in the operators list of the main article because, well, just look at the poor thing. If they'd flown it it'd be a different story. Now an "Non-operational operators" (yes, that's odd phrasing, but my brain is going pfft at the moment so someone else can come up with better wording!) section at the bottom of List of Hawker Typhoon operators for tidbits like this could, possibly, be workable? - The Bushranger One ping only 20:53, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dont have a problem with it being mentioned somewhere but I dont think the Belgian Air Force can be considered an operator. MilborneOne (talk) 20:56, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"Operator" appears to have different meanings to different people; thank you for clarifying the context. For aviation, what would be considered the minimum strength to be considered an operator? ScrpIronIV 21:09, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
One actually flying. MilborneOne (talk) 21:11, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - it wasn't clear what training purpose it was actually serving; my assumption when I read the tidbit (yes, I know I should not assume ) was that it was a photo at the end of its service life. I guess, without clarification, it could have been for mechanic training. ScrpIronIV 21:16, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All the best for the festive season and new year.
— Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 18:33, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect I've not got this quite right. Please would you have a look and tell me where its wrong (or just fix it!) Many thanks, Eddaido (talk) 04:52, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The main problem is that an Air Liaison Officer is not a rank. MilborneOne (talk) 09:38, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I worked that out after I had made the article — so I do I create a category Air Liaison Officers? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 09:53, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Air Liaison Officer is also used by the US military so perhaps could be added to the description of the role. Might be worth asking at WP:MILHIST for further info. MilborneOne (talk) 10:18, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the US uses it for quite a different type of position. I though I would let them introduce that themselves if they wished. You're right but I'd be much happier if I could just give the article one legitimate category and dodge discussion. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 10:23, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I noticed you deleted the gallery at American Airlines fleet. The decision to put galleries on airline fleet pages was made a long time ago at WP:AVIATION. I know that one of the images was a copyright violation, but the rest have been there for a long time and no copyright violations were found. Should I put the gallery back up? TheJack15 (talk) 06:52, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK I have raised it again at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports#Gallery in fleet list as it is not something we normally do per WP:GALLERY which is why we have a link to commons. MilborneOne (talk) 08:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of Aircraft at Duxford

[edit]

I assumed it was OK to include Fighter Collection aircraft on List of aircraft at the Imperial War Museum Duxford as the lead states the article summarises the collection of aircraft that is housed at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. It says nothing about it being a list of aircraft that are owned by the IWM or are part of the museum. Furthermore it includes the airliners, which I thought were not the property of the IWM.

Therefore it seemed reasonable to include TFC aircraft as they are housed at Duxford and accessible to the public. Sorry for being a bit snippy, but that table was a metric butt-ton of work. Though I suppose it could be recycled for a article on The Fighter Collection, as there is currently not one. Catsmeat (talk) 13:17, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your hard work on this Catsmeat, it has been suggested on the talk page that The Fighter Collection could be a separate article. MilborneOne (talk) 16:18, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

F-16 Demo Team

Hey, I think the Solo Display Team is the same case like the F-16 Demo Team it has aprop, a jet and a helicopter, but all 3 of them are most of the time in solo displays and seldom performing together. FFA P-16 (talk) 18:15, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

NZL honours

[edit]

Thanks, I accidentally deleted them. I added them!! However, subheadings linking to the award articles are linked for these lists. See previous ones. WP:IAR. МандичкаYO 😜 19:58, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK User:Wikimandia but the Manual of Style says it is a no no refer WP:LINKSTYLE (Section headings should not themselves contain links). MilborneOne (talk) 20:09, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but considering this is just an actual list, it makes sense for them to be in the subheadings. There's nowhere else for the link to go. Most people are familiar with the concept of Knighthood but not the various orders, eg Order of Saint Michael and Saint George. not to mention something like, Overseas Territories Police Medal. So linking is a necessity. Since they're subheads I think it looks OK. :-) МандичкаYO 😜 20:18, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
