The Talkpage Barnstar

It is with some trepidation that I thank you for awarding me the Talkpage Barnstar with regards to my activity on the 'Ignore all rules' talk page. Having subsequently read about these Barnstars, and mulled the notion over, I feel that it was a very kind and encouraging gesture, for which I thank you unreservedly. However, I can see an element of peril in the award; having received one Barnstar, there arises, in the murkiest chambers of my heart (specifically the right ventricle), the seeds of a ruthless and manic ambition to collect them all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sixtyninefourtyninefourtyfoureleven (talkcontribs) 19:43, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Secret pages game: reply

As requested, my reply to your message at User talk:AGK:

It's a pretty easy case of noting down the missing letters and appending it to User:Microchip08/ in the URL bar. No, it's probably not easy, I just get quite addicted to games.

it's just standard CSS code. I think I copied it from someone else. —Random832 19:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but no thanks. (I actually had that code at one point, I think) There was a lot of debate (much more than it's worth) back in 2007 about this, and one point of contention was that having the actual CSS class there can cause technical problems for some bots. Plus, the fnord only works with the orange color scheme. —Random832 19:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Novels - 1st Coordinators Election

An election has been proposed and has been set up for this project. Description of the roles etc., can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators. If you wish to stand, enter your candidacy before the end of March and ask your questions of anyone already standing at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators/May 2008. Voting will start on the 1st April and close at the end of April. The intention is for the appointments to last from May - November 2008. For other details check out the pages or ask. KevinalewisBot (talk) 13:25, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Redirect

You redirected the IAR/Workshop to WP:Ignore all rules. What was your reasoning for doing this, I cant find any discussion of this redirect, or why you think it is a good idea. Thanks --Newbyguesses - Talk 20:09, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at the actual IAR/Workshop page; I've not deleted any posts. I felt that it would be better, and more centralized, if everything was on the one page. microchip08 Find my secret page! Talk to me! I feel lonely! 20:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, I am very muchly in favour of centralized discussion also, but the /Workshop was in use as a place to try out possible drafts of IAR. I will have a look as you say. Not sure if there is a problem here, or maybe a solution, things are a bit confused, though that is not unusual. --Newbyguesses - Talk 20:32, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Your VandalProof Application

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Microchip08. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that:

You do not yet have enough edits in the main namespace.

Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. Ale_Jrbtalk 18:23, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Done

I had these done last night, but neglected to give them to you, sorry about that. Here we are.

Because the whole 'my preferences' thing never tends to work properly, my chosen method of using a sig is to create a subpage called 'sig', paste the code to the sig you want there, and then type "{{SUBST:User:Microchip08/Sig}}" in the little signature box. Then, when you want to change your sig, merely exchange the code in the 'sig' subpage to something else. FusionMix 19:36, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Re Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Joan of Arc Statue

Hi Microchip08,

I noticed you 'Speedy closed' Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Joan of Arc Statue.

Other than exceptional circumstances, for a speedy close to occur one user should vote for a Speedy close, and if there are no objections within approx. one day then it can be closed early. In the Joan of Arc nom, no one had nominated for speedy close (one user had mentioned it in their oppose vote), and you then closed it just over an hour afterwards.

Sure it wasn't going to pass FPC, but it didn't obviously fail all criteria, and was providing the nominator with valuable feedback, so was doing no harm in being there.

Cheers, --jjron (talk) 03:23, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

User talk:Microchip08/Archive 2/header Thanks for the answer to my help me....To try to explain further. I have used the [1] citation, but using it a bizillion times makes the text hard to read, and every time I say a town is ...this big...population I state as of 2006...which is also breaking up the reading...and then the footnote. Is there anyway to say the whole entire article populations are from the 2006 census and the citation once at the bottom of the article or paragraph or whathaveyou. I notice if one states town blah is 126,493 people (2006) with no citation and no (2006) it gets a tag, but when an article has many many places, the (2006) and citation get wearisome to the prose. Searching for your hidden page...

User talk:Microchip08/Archive 2/Header Well, I found the Shakespeare page, and I believe that I decoded the sonnet (i.e. "go to heaven or hell and win"), but I'm not sure what to do next. What I have tried is typing a new address in the address bar (e.g., "...User:Microchip08/heaven", "...User:Microchip08/hell", "...User:Microchip08/heavenorhell", "...User:Microchip08/heavenorhellandwin", etc.), but that didn't work. Any additional clues? =} -- Beleg Strongbow (talk) 13:38, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Calling all active WP:NOVELS members

WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 18:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikimedia UK v2.0

Hello! Thanks for showing an interest in Wikimedia UK v2.0. Formation of the company is currently underway under the official name "Wiki UK Limited", and we are hoping to start accepting membership in the near future. We have been drawing up a set of membership guidelines, determining what membership levels we'll have (we plan on starting off with just standard Membership, formerly known as Guarantor Membership, with supporting membership / friends scheme coming later), who can apply for membership (everyone), what information we'll collect on the application form, why applications may be rejected, and data retention. Your input on all of this would be appreciated. We're especially after the community's thoughts on what the membership fee should be. Please leave a message on the talk page with your thoughts.

Also, we're currently setting up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed about the to-be-Chapter's progress. If you would like to receive this newsletter, please put your username down on this page.

Thanks again. Mike Peel (talk) 19:55, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (Membership Secretary, Wikimedia UK [Proposed])

Wiki UK Ltd Membership applications now invited!

Hello,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Wiki UK Limited is now inviting membership applications! You can download the application form in PDF format from meta:Image:Wiki_UK_Ltd_membership_application_form.pdf

Information is given on the form about membership fees (£12/year standard, £6 for concessions); these need to be paid by cheque initially, although we hope to accept other forms of payment in the future. Applications should be submitted to me at the address given on the form. If you have any queries about the application process, please let me know.

We will formally start accepting members once we have a bank account, as we cannot process membership fees until that time. We will be submitting our application for a bank account in the very near future, and we hope to have this set up by the end of December at the latest.

Thank you for your support so far; I look forward to receiving your membership application.
