Peer Review

[edit]

This is a really interesting topic! A good family friend of mine works at a data-mining firm and I know the ethics and legalities of the subject are tricky. Looking through your sandbox, I see that you have some really good ideas that cover a lot of content but it looks like it's mostly one person working on this and maybe your draft is incomplete. Maybe I'm wrong about that last part but it's kind of hard to review without there being more content. For now, your first three sentences start with the words 'data mining' and you might want to get more diverse wording in there. Other than that, your perspective is very neutral and your tone reads appropriately for an encyclopedia entry. Don't forget to link key words to other Wikipedia articles. Just click the chain link icon after you highlight the word. I haven't looked at the main article much but it seems like you should define data mining more precisely. That definition could be suitable for an opening paragraph. Maybe you could add some dollar amounts, too- ie, 'its a XX billion dollar industry' or 'market researchers spend X amount of dollars per year investing in data.' You could also bring up where data mining servers are located- I'm pretty sure that for legal reasons many US data mining companies keep their servers in foreign countries, which contributes to foreign economies. Again, I feel like it's hard to leave you constructive feedback because there isn't much there and it's hard for me to tell the exact topic you're covering. Is it data mining, in general, or a specific topic in the data mining article? Either way, I think it's a really good start. Your tone is very professional, objective and informative. Good luck!
