"Disruptive Editing"?

What is this? You're claiming on absolutely no basis that I'm an alternate account just because I'm editing something?

Listen: the destruction of the Spanish Armada involved NOT A SINGLE SHIP casualty from combat for the English, while the "Invincible Armada" (yes, due to its amazing victories and towering Galleons, the world considered their navy invincible" was utterly decimated. The English fleet didn't consist of many gigantic warships, but many armed merchant vessels, etc.. They had smaller cannons, much, MUCH fewer sailors than the Spanish, and overall their navy was puny compared to the Armada.

This tiny navy crushed the world's most powerful navy easily. This battle established England's naval dominance and began the steady decline of Spain as a global empire.

I will cease editing the article as it really isn't anything to argue over, but I do think that, judging from the battle results, that this battle would be considered by any historian to be decisive. Also, what about that Charles fellow who keeps removing our edits on the grounds that the word Decisive is "too detailed" (yes, exact quote from him)? Isn't the point of articles like this to be as detailed as possible?

--SuperSmashBros.Brawl777 (talk) 22:47, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I understand your point. I'll discuss this with the said editor. However, the only reason I suspect he's being dishonest about these edits is because it's happened before with the Battle of Monte Cassino article. Though obviously the battle was Pyrrhic for the Allies - other editors agreed - one editor kept undoing my edits, saying they were unsourced. It turns out he was a known edit troll, who had been doing the same thing to other articles, and the administrators had him under suspicion.

  • Hi, the 30-day lock you placed in the article 15 days ago (and set to expire March 23) has been removed by a bot [1] soon a 6-step maneuver [2] by a certain User:Graham87 in what might have been a good faith effort to accomplish God knows what. Can you relock the article? I am not convinced the devils are gone, and wouldn't be surprised if they still lurking around for an opportunity to vandalise article further, and 30 days was about the right "ah, I give up" length of time. City of Glass band

A previous page was deleted on the Vancouver band City of Glass. I was about to enter the information but wanted to clear it with you first to make sure it fits the criteria. The band has had two releases (free for download demo EP and released EP available in stores, on iTunes and CDBaby.com) and has completed several tours with several upcoming, and many reviews/articles to link to. Hi Mfield, I love your photo "New_York_Midtown_Skyline_at_night" I want to blow it up and mount it for use in my house as wall art. So... 1)Do I have your permission to do so? (I can pony up a little but nothing like Getty demands-budget is pretty tight) 2) Is the original a larger file - I was thinking of blowing it up to 20 by 50 and need all the resolution i can get (Also looks like you have a couple different versions). If you are ok with this idea please contact me at smarcell-AT-gmail-DOT-com Hope to hear from you soon! thanks for your help.108.56.155.213 (talk) 00:48, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Author Inquiry

My name is John Bengtson.

I have written movie location books about where the great silent comedians Buster Keaton (Silent Echoes), Charlie Chaplin (Silent Traces), and Harold Lloyd (Silent Visions), filmed their comedies on the streets of Los Angeles 90 years ago.

I am planning to use your Wiki Commons photos of California Plaza in downtown LA for a project I'm working on.

Charlie Chaplin filmed Making a Living, his very first movie, at 4th and Grand in 1914.

Charlie's early films made in 1914 have never been released on DVD. I was contacted on Friday to prepare some "then and now" materials for the DVD, but my deadline is in only a few days.

I live in the San Francisco area, and am not able to travel to LA to take all the photos I need. I wanted to be certain that I have permission to use your photo on a non-exclusive basis. You would be credited at the end of the little program I am making.

I would greatly appreciate your possible assistance. I can send you the Making A Living chapter from my book by email if you contact me below.

Thank you for your consideration, John Bengtson

Turning Ten

On Saturday January 15, 2011, Wikipedia will turn 10 years and people all over the globe will be celebrating Wikipedia on that day. No event is currently planned for Orange County Wikipedians, so I am leaving a message with some of the currently involved editors listed in "Wikipedians in Orange County, California" & "Wikipedians in Southern California" to see if we might want to meet on that day, lunch, dinner, group photo or other ideas welcomed? I will start a "Turning Ten" discussion thread on my Talk page to see if any interest can be planned for and determined. I am located in Old Towne Orange off the circle.Tinkermen (talk) 20:21, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Mfield,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 04:07, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Galapagos_giant_tortoise_Geochelone_elephantopus.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Olde English Bulldogge

Hi, I just thought I'd drop by to say 'thank you' for doing some cleaning up of the Olde English Bulldogge article - although to be honest, I'm not too sure how long it will be until someone comes along and starts changing it again! For the last couple of days I had been thinking about replying to this comment as it looks like a clear conflict of interest and the link the editor is trying to include clearly states here [4] that the LBA wants to 'differentiate' itself from the OEB.

However, while I've been procrastinating, you've sorted it, so again - thank you! SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:19, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Help maintaing NPOV on historical aviator.

Hi. I'm looking for some third parties to review a problem editor who (in my opinion) continues to violate the NPOV policy of Wikipedia on the page of a Pacific War aviator, Mitsuo Fuchida. After exhausting myself trying to maintain viable content in the "Controversy" section, I'm asking for a page ban for this user. If you have time and motivation, I'd really appreciate your consideration to review this issue. Content Revision Deletion

Hello. I see you revdel'd something recently but there was a problem. You only deleted the revisions that introduced the text. However, it still exists on the page and in all of the revisions since it's addition. When you want to revdel something, you need to first delete it from the page and then delete everything from the revision where it was added to the revision where it was deleted as well.--v/r - TP 04:19, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
