8811

Please try in ar/arz wikis with 8811 and update your bug report if necessary. -- Magioladitis (talk) 18:22, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

The brackets should have been fixed. Some of the problems fixed. Please recheck. No problem from my side. I hope you are OK in performing the tests for me. -- Magioladitis (talk)
I checked only for the first case. Give me some time and I will check the other cases. --Meno25 (talk) 20:23, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
New try: 8814 :) -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:09, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
"Few wikilinks > 0 and deadend tag" Maybe your example is not good. Try creating a larger text with 1 wikilink. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:49, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Short article with 1 wikilink it is OK with our logic because we want to exclude cases of stubs, etc. The most concerning case is the one that an invalid edit summary is added because this means there is a problem in our logic. We allow a short interval in editor's judgement. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:27, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
New try: 8823 :) This process is good because it reveals more critical problems in our logic. I hope 8823 fixes the wrong edit summary problem. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:30, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your effort. There is only the issue of handling short articles. Otherwise, the bug seems to have been fixed. --Meno25 (talk) 10:58, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Magioladitis has had problems in his logic for awhile now. You will get used to it. Magioladitis has been saying nice things about you. Just don't turn into an AWB slave like me. Bgwhite (talk) 09:01, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Meno25 don't believe this guy. You are free to do what I want. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:19, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
I see you started doing checkwiki errors. Ahhhh, a big thank you. One more person helping out is great, especially some of the "high" ones that have to be done manually. Bgwhite (talk) 21:02, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cameron Hammond, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Aboriginal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanx for cleaning Dilazak page

Dear Meno25, Thank you for cleaning the page. How can I get those annoying tags removed from the page? Any help there?

Hi. I redirected the page to Dilazak. --Meno25 (talk) 09:41, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Please help against Vandalism & Racist Approach

Dear Meno25 (A worthy Wiki Editor)
I respect your last edit of Dilazak Page and I have not changed that. Recent change is by one Moarrikh. I have tried to engage with him for discussion many a times but his replies are arrogant, abusive and reflective of pre-determined racial & biased approach. Even his recent reply on Dilazak1 is an example to that, wherein, he has called me ‘Dilajacki’. Gangs of young Indo-Pak living in UK and other countries actually use these words to abuse each other. Indians will call Pakistanis as ‘Pakis’ and Pakistanis will call Indians as ‘Black Indians’. The same approach has been displayed by Mr. Moarrikh a number of times. His IP indicates his location from ‘Leeds – UK’. I will keep reverting his edits but that is turning into an edit war. Please help me because he is disgracing a community time and again. I request that he should be either warned or blocked from doing so.

Regards

listas value

Hey Meno, you need to be careful with the listas parameter. AWB does not do a good job on alot of names. Examples are Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Cambodian, and Arabic. Different locations sort by different values... Netherlands does not sort on names with "Van", but South Africa and U.S. do. Germany does not sort on "von", but the U.S. does. Spanish names have two surnames and is sorted on the first surname. All the grizzly details are at WP:NAMESORT

Examples are:

  1. Fung Chi-wood is sorted "Fung, Chi-wood"
  2. Mauricio García Vega is sorted "Garcia Vega, Mauricio" (Spanish name)
  3. Muhammad Abdul Malek is sorted "Abdul Malek, Muhammad"
  4. Jerry Del Colliano is sorted "Del Colliano, Jerry"
  5. Boombox Saints is sorted "Boombox Saints" (it is the name of a group, there is no last or first name) Bgwhite (talk) 19:51, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. --Meno25 (talk) 10:33, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
On a list of names, I usually go thru and pick out the "weird names" and do them manually. Then I let the bot go thru the rest. Bgwhite (talk) 08:10, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

On the groups case: Bgwhite, please ask Rjwilmsi and I think he can fix it for us. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:30, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Nothing to fix. AWB doesn't know if it is a group or not on the talk page. Meno added WikiProject Biography via Kingbot, so AWB treated the name as a person.
On the article side, if Category:Living people is set and the infobox settings are set for a person, AWB will add defaultsort as if it is a person's name. If Category:Living people is set and no infobox is present, AWB will add defaultsort as if it is a person's name. For "Boombox Saints", Category:Living people was present (it shouldn't be on music groups), however "Infobox musical artist" had |background=group_or_band, so AWB didn't set defaultsort. Talk pages

Since you are working on talk pages, I would like to ask you to load this custom module: User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects. It will help in banner standardisation. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:09, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Will do. Thank you. --Meno25 (talk) 10:29, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

how to remove the orphan tag

How do I remove the orphan tag off the article Central Park Carousel? I already putted 2 articles to link to it like Central Park and Carousel. Please tell me how to remove the orphan tag! Please do leave a message on my talk page. Starship9000.

Hi. You already correctly removed the tag in your edit. --Meno25 (talk) 20:13, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Please stop marking referenced articles as unreferenced

You recently marked a bunch of NFL players as unreferenced, despite them having a reference in the infobox. (ie http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Adam_Haayer&diff=532692101&oldid=515788861) Please use {{BLP sources|date=January 2013}} and {{No footnotes|date=January 2013}} instead. If AWB is doing it automatically, then it is still your responsibility to check that it's suggested edits are accurate. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 12:14, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikidata is here; please disable any interwiki bots on the English Wikipedia

Hi!

Wikidata has been deployed to the English Wikipedia. Going forward, Wikidata will manage interwiki links. Further information: m:Wikidata/Deployment Questions and <https://blog.wikimedia.de/?p=13892>.

Important note: Bots that continue to add, remove, or update interwiki links on the English Wikipedia may be blocked from editing after Saturday, February 16, 2013.

If you are running pywikipedia's interwiki.py, please update to pyrev:11073 which will automatically prevent your bot from updating links on this wiki.

If you have any questions, please ask at the bot owners' noticeboard. Thank you for your past work maintaining interwiki links. It has been very appreciated and we're looking forward to an even brighter future with Wikidata. Legoktm (talk) 09:58, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Potential vandal on the loose

A user with the IP address 216.148.217.126 has been vandalizing several pages including for example National Lampoon's Van Wilder and Hancock and many more (check his/her history), is there a way to stop him/her and revert to older versions of sabotaged pages? I thought it was only a minor incident and was gonna do it manually but then it turned out to be bigger than that. What should I do? --Modi mode (talk) 23:22, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Meno25,

I'm currently writing a short thesis on Tawfiq al-Hakim with a specialized focus on Fate of a Cockroach: Four Plays of Freedom. I am finding it rather difficult to find good sources in english and suspect that there is much more information on Tawfiq in arabic. Do you know of any good arabic websites where I might find good information on him. If you had some free time I would appreciate pointing me in the right direction as the information I have found so far seems to be lacking in many respects.

Admin again?

You are an admin again? Ah crap, there went the neighborhood. You also have my condolences for coming back. Bgwhite (talk) 22:45, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, my dear friend. Wishing you the best in your life. --Meno25 (talk) 04:06, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you too. It is nice to see a good editor come back. This place is definitely better with you around. Bgwhite (talk) 05:13, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. I don't know what caused this, but your bot tagged a talk-page of a deleted article, Talk:Brendan King with WPBIO, and I taught you wanted to know about it. :) Mentoz86 (talk) 19:47, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi. The list of pages the bot works on is generated using the Toolserver. This must be a glitch in the Toolserver database. Thank you for the report. --Meno25 (talk) 19:51, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
But half an hour after you deleted the talk-page, your bot again tagged it with WPBIO :) Mentoz86 (talk) 10:24, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
The article associated with this talk page is recorded in the Toolserver database as having Category:Living people in it, so, the page got added again to my list when I regenerated the list from the Toolserver. I have added this page to my watchlist, so, this won't happen again. Thank you. --Meno25 (talk) 10:29, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Same problem at Talk:Amar Chugg, Talk:Dave Miller (drummer), Talk:Hina Khawaja Bayat and Talk:İlkay Durmuş. I've dealt with those four and don't see any others int he bot's contributions, but please make sure those also don't get recreated. For future runs you should set up AWB to check for deleted articles immediately before tagging them, as the database appears to have a fair number of outdated pages listed. Just load the list of talk pages to tag, and then prior to the run do this:

  1. Right click on the list and convert from talk pages.
  2. Uncheck all changes (e.g. genfixes and so on).
  3. Select skip options to skip if:
    • The page exists
    • No changes made
  4. Click start and let the program run through the entire list
  5. In the log tab, right click on the log and select: "Filter by skip reason: Existing page".
  6. Click "Add all to list" in the log tab
  7. Convert back to talk pages
  8. You now have a list of all the talk pages to tag with existing articles.

There are faster and more efficient ways to do this, but that's the best I know how with AWB (which isn't my strong suit). - Kingpin13 (talk) 17:03, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the advice. I will be busy for the next 24 hours. I will look into this problem tomorrow. I have stopped the bot for now. --Meno25 (talk) 06:31, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

OK, Kingpin13. Fixing this problem is easy:

  1. Generate a list of articles in Category:Living people that their talk pages aren't tagged (from the Toolserver).
  2. Add links to all these pages in a sandbox page.
  3. Instruct AWB to extract all blue links from this sand box page. Thus, AWB will skip red links i.e. articles that don't exist.
  4. Convert list to talk pages.

This method saves the time used in processing the list. I will regenerate the list and rerun the bot. --Meno25 (talk) 18:31, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

For the record 5 pages are red links although recorded in the Toolserver database as having Category:Living people in them. They are: Amar Chugg, İlkay Durmuş, Brendan King, Prince Philipp of Hesse (b. 1970) and Viulen Ayvazyan. --Meno25 (talk) 18:46, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
Ah, clever, much faster just to do it like that, I'll bear that in mind in the future. Great, looks like we had most of them already, anyway. Thanks! - Kingpin13 (talk) 18:57, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

MenoBot 2

Addshore already approved this task, but I just wanted to check that the bot won't make this mistake, as I guess it is running from the same list of pages which you were using when you made that edit. I assume you've already put a skip rule in to skip any articles which already have the template but still got included in the database report, but if not it might be worth having a quick look over the bot's edits and adding that. - Kingpin13 (talk) 23:42, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

This mistake happened because AWB was set to skip any page that contains "biography" not "bio". I discovered this error shortly (as you can see I reverted the edit) and modified AWB skip rules. Have no worries. Thank you. --Meno25 (talk) 10:34, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
I think the new simplified version of the KingbotK plugin (2.3.3.0) avoids this mistake. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:29, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. --Meno25 (talk) 12:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
And something else: The plugin skips if the page is not a talk page. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:18, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Passchendaele et al

Thanks for amending the pages, Do you mind explaining it as it would help me avoid mistakes in the first place. ThanksKeith-264 (talk) 11:27, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Keith-264. Category:Conflicts in 1917 was repeated twice in First Battle of Passchendaele. I simply removed the duplicate entry. By the way, great work in writing that article. Cheers. --Meno25 (talk) 11:35, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh right, thanks, I feared that I was making work through ignorance (although I managed to add auto-ed to my limited repertoire). Any suggestions on adding links at the bottom of this page {{Delville Wood order of battle]] will be gratefully received. I'm ploughing my way through Guillemont User:Keith-264/sandbox2 which is proving quite a headache but after a drastic edit I think it will be serviceable. After that, Delville Wood and then....The World! ;O)Keith-264 (talk) 11:52, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
I am not an expert on this subject, so, I won't be able to help you in improving this article. However, I suggest that you ask on the talk page of WP:MILHIST. Best wishes. --Meno25 (talk) 12:25, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Checkwiki/AWB

Hi. Not sure what this edit was about, hence I've reverted it. Might need to check that Checkwiki... Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:32, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Lugnuts. The said edit was to remove a duplicated category entry. I have fixed the article manually. --Meno25 (talk) 18:36, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
You might want to change your edit summary. For #17, I've got, "WP:CHECKWIKI error fix for #17. Category duplication. Do general fixes if a problem exists. -"
In the past, Magio and I have gotten complaints about general fixes being done when the edit summary said it was a Checkwiki fix. So, that is why general fixes is mentioned in the summary. Bgwhite (talk) 20:24, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Bgwhite for the advice. I will keep this in mind. --Meno25 (talk) 07:28, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Also... When you marked off that #17 was done, was that manually or via a bot. #17 has to be done by both.
You also need to unselect "Restrict DEFAULTSORT addition" from the menu. [1]. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:20, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi, Magio. Error 17 was done only by bot. There was only a few pages that the bot skipped, so, I didn't bother to fix them manually. Regarding DEFAULTSORT, the first part of my edits was without adding DEFAULTSORT, then, I realized that I should unselect this option, so, I did so. Check, for example, this edit. --Meno25 (talk) 07:28, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Some pages may have been edited but maybe the duplicated category has not been fixed. I checked the first 100 pages and I found only one. If you have some spare time you can check for more. Otherwise, we can do this one the next month. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:29, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
OK, Magio. Thank you for your effort. --Meno25 (talk) 10:21, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

edit says clean up using AWB (9243), and the edit is adding DEFAULTSORT:Turkiye Yazarlar Birligi. But Template:DEFAULTSORT says It is not necessary to use DEFAULTSORT at all if the article or page should be alphabetized according to its title (true for most articles).. This seems like a pointless edit, unless I'm missing something. Podiaebba (talk) 09:51, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Podiaebba. This is CHECKWIKI error 37. Please see WP:SORTKEY for details on why special letters shouldn't be used in DEFAULTSORT. --Meno25 (talk) 09:59, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
OK, I see, I think. ( Łódź has the sort key "Lodz").) ... thanks. Podiaebba (talk) 10:12, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

When your bots edit my pages,

I don't seem to receive an eMail like I would if you or an IP edited it. I see nothing in Preferences that says otherwise - I've just ticked 'eMail me when a page on my watchlist is edited', so presumably, bot edits give me notifications. Why don't they?--Launchballer 09:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Launchballer. If this is true then it is a bug in MediaWiki and not related to my bot's work. Try asking on the Village Pump and reporting this issue to Bugziila. --Meno25 (talk) 10:04, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, and where would I file such an issue?--Launchballer 15:06, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Launchballer: Write describing the issue on the Village Pump, so that users who are more technically oriented that myself can investigate the problem. The discussion should continue there. Best wishes. --Meno25 (talk) 15:57, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
The discussion there is almost entirely dead now, but a solution I suggest is for the bot to chuck out a message on involved users' talk pages.--Launchballer 20:05, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Launchballer: Making the bot notify users about its edits to the articles they created or edited will flood user talk pages unnecessarily. All logged in users have the option to add the pages they created or edited to their watchlists as well as the option to receive e-mails whenever these articles gets edited. --Meno25 (talk) 12:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
