User talk:Mendellapine
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Mendellapine, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:Pesha Leah Lapine, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Pesha Leah Lapine
[edit]Hi, I was touched by the story of your grandmother, may her memory be a blessing. I understand your wish to have her story remembered via a Wikipedia article. The first step is always to look for reliable sources; since I hoped to be able to assist you in getting an article published, I have begun to do so. Unfortunately one of the first sources I found shows that most of the current draft was copy-pasted from the Chabad.org piece. This is absolutely forbidden and means much of the draft will shortly be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations extremely seriously; everything you submit must be in your own words. Please read through WP:COPYVIO.
It may still be possible to have a Wikipedia article, but you must start again. You have one source that looks good - the Chabad.org piece - and it sounds like there may be a telling of your grandmother's story in at least one book. Perhaps you know of other books, or newspaper articles, that have more information? They don't have to be online, and they can be in Hebrew or any other language. I would be happy to help you with this draft if there are suitable sources, but right now I don't know if there is enough. StartGrammarTime (talk) 06:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Mendellapine! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's elegibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:36, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
