Diskkeeper change (added section "Controversy")

The addition to the diskkeeper article was directly copied from the article about Executive Software as it was known at that time, later named Diskkeeper software, now named Condusiv Technologies.

That information used to be in the diskkeeper article once upon a time. I had come looking for it to quote for a citation elsewhere, and when I didn't find it there, I went looking elsewhere, eventually finding it on the company page. It seems more appropriate to be on the page for the product it pertains to than buried away on the page about the company. If you could please restore it with proper citation that would be appreciated. I'm not a regular editor, I just make periodic corrections/additions, so I'm not sure if there is some easy way to copy the text with the citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.153.61.159 (talk) 12:04, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
I had removed the said text based on the fact that there were no reliable sources attached. However, you've presented a bit of a bigger issue – the content, which you have directly copied from this website I presume, is copyrighted material and hence should not have been copied directly as it is a violation of copyright – a big no no on Wikipedia. Please, for further references, exercise care in changing the content so that it doesn't constitute to plagiarism.
With in regards to adding a citation, please view the relevant steps here, that will explain how to do so. It's very easy to do, you'll get used to it. MelbourneStartalk 12:18, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I said I copied the text from the article on Executive Software aka Diskkeeper Corp aka Condusiv Technology, I was talking about the Wikipedia article. I do not know how it could be a copyright infringement, plagiarism, etc to transplant a paragraph from one wikipedia article to another. As I stated, this information makes more sense on the page about the software in question rather than the page about the company that wrote it. Also, to the best of my memory, this information used to be in the article about the diskkeeper software some time in the past. It is mind boggling that you managed to find some other site with that information (perhaps copied from wikipedia), yet failed to notice it came directly from another wikipedia article even though I stated it was from the article about the software company. I don't know how I could have made it any more clear except to link to the wikipedia page in question, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condusiv_Technologies — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.153.61.159 (talk) 20:47, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Quick followup: I looked at the page history and it appears the entire Controversy section was moved from the Diskeeper page to the Condusiv tech article in 2011. While some of that information is pertinent only to the company (the parts about wrongful firing, lawsuits, ties to Scientology, etc), the paragraph I *restored* pertains directly to the Diskeeper software (specifically the option to remove it from Windows 2000 due to issues of trust with the company that developed it and licensed it to Microsoft) and thus I believe it to be of value in this article.

Correction: The controversy section as it was in 2011 was copied to the article on the company, but there was was still a controversy section (then limited to the parts pertinent to the software) still in 2012. That section has been around for quite some time. Looking at early versions I can see essentially the same information was there at least as early as 2006. So for more than half a decade this information had been part of the Diskeeper article. It was periodically revised and additional citations were made. The page which you wrongly think I plagiarized (since you apparently didn't do jack for research) is almost certainly the actual copyright infringer as this content has a long edit history on wikipedia. WAlso, I don't need a lesson on how to add citations. I have done that plenty of times. What I was specfically saying about citation is I'm not aware of an easy way to preserve them when copying the text from one article to another. Perhaps it would have been easier vie restoring form a past version, but that too I see no easy way to do since there fotonote numbers havef changed over time and the individual references must be copied manual afaict. Please tell me there is some reasonable/sane way to edit wikipedia wherein the citation with references can be copied along with article text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.153.61.159 (talk) 21:14, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Seeing as you're unable to assume good faith and be civil you can find out all of this stuff, yourself. Kind regards, —MelbourneStartalk 01:50, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Cestus

Hi, I changed some details and left some notes about errors on caestus and other terminology related to ancient boxing gloves. Sphaerae (or Sphairai) were not spiked gloves, they were padded practice gloves. Oxeis Himantes, or 'sharp gloves', were a later edition from c. 4 B.C.E. onwards. They were the usual thongs but with a padded strip on the knuckles which were very effective at cutting the opponents face; hence sharp gloves. Moreover, the Boxer of Quirinal is not wearing caestus he is shown wearing the oxeis himantes.

Greek boxing gloves - Poliakoff (1987), p.70. Plato, Dialogue 342b.

Sphairai. See Poliakoff (1987), p. 91.

Caestus - Scanlon (1982-3), pp. 31-45. Lee (1997), pp. 161-78 has gone as far as to say that the caestus did not exist and was merely a misinterpretation by early scholars who viewed the Romans as violent. Kyle (2007), p. 124 says that Romans didn't make boxing violent, it was already violent with the Greeks.

Hi!
There's no issue in the details that you've changed (one can only praise you for that) and judging from what you've found, you've done plenty of research. The issue was with this edit you explicitly made note about what was wrong when you could have removed the content and added in the correct content - which you seem to have covered above, in an array of reliable sources too. Please, by all means, make your mark in the article - it's no use pointing out errors without fixing them, especially considering you know what should be there and what shouldn't . —MelbourneStartalk 16:33, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for your reply. I was writing an essay on the topic when I made the edit and didn't really have the time to change it properly. I will get around to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.103.188.86 (talk) 19:41, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

We Live and Die in These a Towns

Hi, sorry you thought the change I made was not constructive, I removed the reference to Tibbs because it is blatantly a lie. The album sleeve states that all tracks were written by the Enemy and I know this to be true. would appreciate it if you would reinstate my change please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.186.5.59 (talk) 14:41, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I have actually removed the section as a whole, as it is completely unsourced. Would you please be able to provide a reliable source that supports your edit? Thanks, —MelbourneStartalk 14:54, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, much appreciated. Not sure how but will make enquiries
Hi again, sorry if I am not following the usual protocols but I am new to this. I have found a couple of sources to confirm that the Enemy wrote the album , hope they are acceptable the discogs.com link below

Hi sorry but I can't see how to reinstate that section now it has been removed, could you give me a clue please — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.186.5.59 (talk) 17:15, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
That's fine, no need to apologize, here to help!
I have re-added the section to the article, minus the incorrect content, as well as a template to tell other editors that you're working on it. You can edit the section, and add the relevant content with those appropriate sources you've found, and hence remove the notice when you're done. If you need further help, please don't hesitate in asking. Kind regards, —MelbourneStartalk 07:38, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Hopefully I have managed to edit the template including the sources would you be good enough to check that I have done this correctly please .
Thanks in advance . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.186.5.59 (talk) 11:01, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
There's been no recorded change to the article, and I've taken a look through your edit contributions (in case you may have accidentally edited some other article, but likewise, nothing to suggest so. Have you pressed the "Save page" button? —MelbourneStartalk 11:50, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I recived a two! messages from you, and have no idea who you are, I am a new user who has information to share with people and i really would appreciate if you could stop reviwng my edits, i have an old dad, old mom already, to know what is right and wrong.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1Secretlove1 (talkcontribs) 09:43, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi 1Secretlove1, and welcome to Wikipedia!
The two messages you're particularly referring to are in regards to these two edits: [1], [2] – both of which included unsourced content not verified by reliable sources. Wikipedia has a set of policies on this, hence why your edits had to be reviewed. Please only add content to articles, if you can back it up with reliable sources. Thanks, —MelbourneStartalk 09:57, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
I know about it, yet, you are not police or have current authority, so, stop behaving like one, you are not part of wikipedia team, so stop your vigilante work, you probably are harming the community by it. and new users.
You are a wikicop!
Good day in the other side of world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1Secretlove1 (talkcontribs) 10:01, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm removing unsourced content by users, like yourself, who don't realize the damage unreferenced material has on the credibility of Wikipedia. I am allowed to remove unsourced content, just like I'm allowed to notify users not to. You or I are not allowed to add unsourced content into articles per our policies – WP:OR, WP:V just as example. I'm being civil, I suggest you be the same, otherwise you may have a difficult time here on Wikipedia, especially with other editors. —MelbourneStartalk 10:06, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Yes I realize of it, yet stop it, stop your not paid crusade or "grammar correcting" in the world. help the poor people instead, I bet you have hungry people in Australia or orphan kids. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1Secretlove1 (talkcontribs) 10:14, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Cease adding unsourced (or completely irrelevant) material to articles, and start abiding by Wikipedia's policies and guidelines (WP:AGF, WP:CIVIL, WP:OR, WP:V – just naming a few) and then I nor anyone else for that matter will need to review your edits and go on "crusades" (which is to benefit you and also Wikipedia). It's that simple. —MelbourneStartalk 10:20, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
I DON'T LIKE YOU!, being here 1 hour, and I DO NOT LIKE YOU already!

You removed my content from crypto.cat , tell you what, you have no idea of what are you doing or what people you are affecting by that, you are making damage to community, in particular the crypto.cat community, so would advice you to think twice too before making any changes to edits or will have to report you!

I want the content back, or will fight for 10 years about this..... put my content back in crypto.cat! now!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1Secretlove1 (talkcontribs)

Hi Luke,
Firstly, you weren't warned for vandalism but rather for adding unsourced content to the said article. Secondly, the head boy at your school, cannot be mentioned per our guidelines on what not to include in school-related articles, as it is inappropriate and trivial. Hope that helps, —MelbourneStartalk 11:59, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Edison Community College

This is abinoh2001. I received your message. I have been trying to straighten this situation our for some time. Someone created a redirect from Edison Community College's page (where I work) to Edison State College in Florida. I really need this redirect gone, so that I can establish a page for OUR school. I understand that at some point Edison State College in Florida may have been referred to as Edison Community College, but no longer. Please let me know how we can rectify this situation. Thanks!Abinoh2001 (talk) 12:20, 14 April 2014 (UTC)abinoh2001

Hi Abinoh2001, and welcome to Wikipedia!
What I've done is created a redirect page entitled "Edison Community College, Florida" which redirects to the school in Florida that no longer goes by the name of Edison Community College (unlike the school in Ohio). Consequently, that means the Edison Community College article is no longer a redirect, and is Ohio's article. Now, on a separate note – you've mentioned that you work at the school, and before you edit the said article, please read Wikipedia's policy on Conflict of interest carefully, and note that COI editing strongly discouraged. If any further issues, please don't hesitate asking, —MelbourneStartalk 12:36, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
The text that I inserted, and that you have deleted, is official text written by Edison Community College. I am the web administrator at this school. I will admit that I am new to this, but how do I go about inserting this text without retyping all of it? This copy comes from a series of articles written by college administrators in celebration of our 40th year. Abinoh2001 (talk) 13:25, 14 April 2014 (UTC)abinoh2001
You will not be able to insert that text for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is copyrighted – you would need to "donate" the copyrighted material for it to be hosted on this site. Secondly, and more importantly, the content you wish to add, cannot be added because: Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion – content that even slightly goes against our policies on articles having a neutral point of view will either need to be rewritten or removed. Hope that makes sense, —MelbourneStartalk 13:35, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Nithan,
You have to first "donate" copyrighted material to Wikipedia. However, with that said, if the material is not written in a neutral point of view and is promotional, it will be removed because Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. Thank you, —MelbourneStartalk 05:49, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi I'm Ichiro Nazuki. I respond to your message about edit in Goryeo.

I was surfing the net and I searched mongol empire and I found that there were more than 40 countries who had been tributary relationships with mongol empire. I am bit surprised to find that only Goryeo's title status of country is written as 'tributary relationships with mongol empire'. Except Goryeo, no other country's title is written as 'tributary relationships with mongol empire. Even there was more than 40 countries. Goryeo was born with independent country in 918 who was descendant of Goguryeo and it had a cruel war with mongol for long time and became tribute for a bit, I do not deny that. But Goryeo achieved independence after 1360 with there own, they kicked out yuan dynasty which was descendant of mongol empire. I ask for change in Goryeo's status. This status is kind of discrimination.

Thank you. ≈ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ichrio Nazuki (talkcontribs) 10:58, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ichrio and welcome to Wikipedia!
Your edit removed content that is verified by reliable sources - and you replaced it with content that is unsourced. Please note, that Wikipedia does not publish one's original thought, and whilst it's your opinion that this status is 'discrimination'; with respect, your opinion, or mine, doesn't have any standing against content that is reliably sourced.
