It's pretty much finalized, if you want to have a look. I didn't include a photo for the radar purely because I didn't think any of them showed the radar clearly enough. Also - this is a standard rule - if you don't like anything about your article's description, just edit the page and change it yourself. Almost random comments
I just read your post on Nike on the MILHIST talk page (by the way, I agree with moving most of the material in the problems section, since they are common to ABM systems). Now for the random stuff:
- In this section of the article, there's a conversion of 100 km to 62 miles. Many years ago, when I was flying with Strategic Air Command, we used to claim that SAC "measured things with a micrometer, marked them with a grease pencil, and cut them with an axe." I think this is an example. The 100 km is fairly obviously a round number, and converting it to the nearest mile (why not 62.13 miles?) provides an unjustified illusion of accuracy. I doubt you put this number in, but I think 60 miles woud be the appropriate number.
- Since I read your page before commenting -- one section looks like it was last updated in 2007. How have you been doing since then? (insert emoticon) Also, the other workers at the old job were probably peons (pl. peones). I know Brits (and sometimes Canadians) stick extra letters where they aren't needed (as in encyclopaedia), but I don't think this is one of them.

Your review of M-theory
Hi Maury,
Thanks again for helping out with the M-theory article. At this point, it seems like we've resolved all of the concerns you expressed about the history section, and I was wondering if there are any other issues that need to be resolved. If not, would you still be opposed to seeing the article promoted to featured status?

Regarding Star Trek Text-Based Role Playing Games
Are you still wanting to nominate Star Trek Text-Based Role Playing Games for WP:RFD? Since the {{Rfd2}} substitution for the nomination was never created (the nomination statement), I have removed the RFD tag from the redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 19:52, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Steel1943: Indeed I do, what do I have to do to make this happen? Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:53, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- If you use Twinkle, when you view the redirect and choose the "XFD" option, it should do it automatically, as well as provide you a field to input your rationale. If not, {{Rfd}} would need to be re-substituted on the redirect and {{Rfd2}} would need to be substituted on today's nomination page; these manual instructions can also be found at WP:RFD#HOWTO. Cheers! Steel1943 (talk) 19:58, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Steel1943: I'm confused. I thought I followed those instructions to the T. What did I miss? Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:00, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- The {{Rfd2}} was not substituted on that day's nomination page (step II). (I checked in the edit history of that day to see if it was somehow accidentally erased, and it was not since it never existed.) Steel1943 (talk) 20:04, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- It sounds like something a robot should warn about, like a failed DYK. Actually, it sounds like something that should be completely automated away in the first place. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:05, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

@Steel1943: I followed the directions to the letter and it's still screwed up. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:17, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- Here's some clarity on step II: For this specific case, you want to place this on the daily nomination page:
Just replace the phrase in all caps with the reason why you want the redirect deleted or otherwise, and then the nomination should appear as intended. Steel1943 (talk) 20:22, 25 February 2015 (UTC){{subst:Rfd2|redirect=Star Trek Text-Based Role Playing Games|target=Play-by-post role-playing game|text=REPLACE THIS TEXT WITH WHY YOU THINK THIS REDIRECT SHOULD BE DELETED OR OTHERWISE}}
- That is *exactly* what I did. Now that it's broken I can't even read it. I give up. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:23, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- Odd. It might be something with your browser. I'll try to do the nomination, and then give you the helm for replacing the rationale text. Steel1943 (talk) 20:25, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- That is *exactly* what I did. Now that it's broken I can't even read it. I give up. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:23, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
- All right. I've put in the nomination here. Just edit the section and replace the phrase in capitals with your rationale and signature, and it should be good. Steel1943 (talk) 20:29, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello and thank-you for your edits to the plot summary at The Red Sea Sharks. Please keep in mind the guidelines at WP:PLOTSUM. In particular, please know that we need to keep the plot summaries of the Tintin articles as short as possible and not cover every scene and every moment of the stories. Please go back to this Tintin article and see if you can cut it to a length found at other articles (see Tintin in Tibet for an example). Kinda tricky question, your opinion please
I recently came across the article on Frank Capra and noticed a weird pattern of a zillion cites from one source, which is always problematic. I looked up the book online and found it was accessible so I began to find the actual page numbers rather than a range of pages to use as reference sources. I found that the passages near or next to the cites were easy to track because the editor who was involved had done some very close paraphrasing, a diplomatic way to say that it was nearly a copy-viol. I was curious and saw that the long-time editor has been a heavy contributor in the past and still contributes, but without too much trouble, I could find the sources that were being used. All I had to do was google search on exact wording and find the source. What to do?? FWiW Bzuk (talk) 21:42, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Bzuk Well unless you're up for a rewrite, I'd suggest just posing the tags... {{close paraphrasing|Frank Capra|source=http://example.com|free=yes/no|date=April 2015}} At a minimum this makes it easier to handle GA's and FACs when they come up. Odd, I always though his name was Franz. Maury Markowitz (talk) 23:26, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
Bzuk While you're here, would you be up for a FA review? I'm trying to get Nike Zeus through. Happy to return the favour. Maury Markowitz (talk) 23:27, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
waveform graphics
I saw your DYK nomination and had a comment. One thing I noticed right away is that the lead section says that waveform graphics were only used for a short time, but a Google search for "waveform graphics" suggests they are still in use today. If those are two different things, that needs to be clarified, IMO. I would humbly suggest (not as an authority, just a random person) revising the beginning of the article to provide some context for the average reader - why this is important, what it's used for, etc. - before getting into the details. In the process, you could add more sources, to satisfy the DYK reviewers. I could be wrong, but it seems like an important article that just needs a little more work to be recognized as such. Hope that's helpful. If not, just ignore. --Rosekelleher (talk) 18:47, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Rosekelleher. I made a few changes but I don't know if they help. I really need the images back. I've looked everywhere for refs and can't find anything. Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:18, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

FAC
Maury, I was about to start reviewing your ABM FAC but it just got archived. If you like, I could do a review on the article talk page. Let me know. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:13, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- Great. And once again no one bothered with a ping to let me know this was going to happen. Is there any point to a review on the talk page? Will that count toward FA when I re-nom? Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:39, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- Typically there are no pings, so you're getting the same treatment everyone else does. A review on the talk page doesn't count per se, but if I do the review I'm in a much better position to support (or oppose, I suppose!) at FAC when you renominate in two weeks. My review of your last FAC was long and picky and although you were very goodnatured about it I thought you might not want to see another review from me, which is why I asked. Of course this review might not be that long.
- I started reading through the article yesterday and was impressed, as I was with the Mk. IV Radar article. I'd enjoy reviewing it; but let me know what you'd like me to do. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:53, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- I've asked for it to be re-opened. There's no point you doing the work if it gets the article no closer to FA when I inevitably re-list. Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:56, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- I guess I wasn't clear; if I review it, and you make any fixes you think suitable, and the result is that I think the article is featured quality, then I'll simply vote "support" at FAC when you relist. That's why a lot of people go to peer review first with FAC articles, because people who review at PR are often going to simply support at FAC, having already had their say. (Sometimes nobody reviews at PR, so it's not a guarantee.) Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:50, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I see, definitely then, go for it! Maury Markowitz (talk) 16:51, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- OK; I'm partway through now. May not be able to finish this evening but I'll have more time this weekend. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 21:59, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, about that WP:TWINKLE...
...I just saw an edit where you utilized Twinkle. I know that you were against using it per a previous discussion we had. I, too, was once against using that tool myself, but eventually, I gave in as well. But yes, I still wish there was an easier method in which to list RFD discussions; I have worked on its related templates from time to time ({{Rfd}} and {{Rfd2}}), but am still not sure what can be done to simplify their function. Steel1943 (talk) 00:30, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Steel1943 Actually it turns out I was confusing TW with some other external tool. I installed TW and have used it a couple of times since. I think we should just put this tool directly into the pages. DYK is another good example of something that is far too complex. Maury Markowitz (talk) 14:46, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

A summary of a Featured Article you nominated at WP:FAC will appear on the Main Page soon. It mostly follows the lead section; how does it look? - Dank (push to talk) 00:18, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
@Dank: Excellent summary! One suggestion though, moving/modifying one sentence...
Airborne Interception radar, Mark IV, was the first successful air-to-air radar system, used in Britain's Bristol Beaufighter heavy fighters by early 1941 in the Second World War. Early development of the Mk. IV was prompted by a 1936 memo from the inventor Henry Tizard to Robert Watt, director of the radar research efforts, who agreed to allow physicist Taffy Bowen to form a team to study the problem of air interception. The team had a test bed system in flights later that year, but progress was delayed for four years by emergency relocations, three abandoned production designs, and Bowen's increasingly adversarial relationship with Watt's replacement, Albert Percival Rowe. The Mk. IV had many limitations, including displays that were difficult to interpret, a maximum range that decreased with the aircraft's altitude, and a minimum range that was barely close enough to allow the pilot to see the target. Yet the the Mk. IV played a role in the RAF's increasingly effective response to The Blitz, the Luftwaffe 's night bombing campaign. The Mk. VIII largely relegated the Mk. IV to second-line duties by 1943. (Full article...)
I've moved the part about the Blitz down, so it reads more chronological.

AI Mk. IV radar
Hi Maury,
Nice job in getting AI Mk. IV radar up to featured status! I have posed a question on the article's talk page and would be glad for your input.
Neelix (talk) 01:06, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm here to add my congratulations, especially when I see you had rather exceptional difficulties at FAC. It's interesting to see how some very experienced and accomplished reviewers were having quite serious problems with some rather straightforward technical matters. Anyway, it's good to think non-technical people were willing to help point out the difficulties they were having and, I'm sure, improving the article in the process. I was fascinated reading the article which seems to me to have been very perceptively written. (And, yes, I'm another failed physicist!). Thincat (talk) 10:07, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Neelix:@Thincat: Thanks for the kind words everyone. I was camping in a park with no internet for the week, so I missed it all! C'est la vie. Thincat; I found the non-technical reviews to be the best, there were some very good suggestions on re-ordering that significantly improved the article. I've taken this to heart on newer articles - chronological ordering generally works best, and if it doesn't read well then there's likely something wrong/missing in the content. The fact was ... that Robert Sheckley's short story "Seventh Victim" may have inspired the live-action game Assassin? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Seventh Victim. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Unreliable Source
FWIW I suspect that Joshi, Rajmohan (2006). Introduction To Computers. Proposed deletion of Monowave Corp.
The article Monowave Corp. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Monowave Corp.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Monowave Corp. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 18:05, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Atari Flashback Portable merge
Hi, I'm cleaning up merge proposals on video game articles. I noticed that you recently proposed merge of Atari Flashback Portable into Atari Flashback. The merge template doesn't use a reason =
parameter, so you need to open a merge proposal discussion at Talk:Atari Flashback if want the articles merged. You should also place {{merge from}} on Atari Flashback. See more at WP:MERGE. --The1337gamer (talk) 10:44, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @The1337gamer: Actually, it does have a reason parameter. Check the edit text. Is the template broken? Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:11, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- You added a reason parameter, but that isn't a valid parameter for merge templates: Template:Merge#TemplateData. You're not meant to add a reason parameter, you're meant to link to a talk page discussion. Sorry if I wasn't clear. --The1337gamer (talk) 13:15, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- I do not understand the problem. Is the reason entry supposed to be there or not? Can you just fix it? Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:20, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- It's not supposed to be there. It doesn't do anything on that template. Read WP:MERGE, Template:Merge. --The1337gamer (talk) 13:25, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, I see, you're saying it should be on the talk page. That is somewhat amusing, because I have found merge templates to actually have text on the talk page on exactly zero examples I've come across. But enough time wasted, here's the real solution... Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:27, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Necromancer atari opening screen.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. DYK for Holland River Division
On 23 November 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Holland River Division, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the abandoned Newmarket Canal was so short of water that local newspapers joked they could dispense with bridges and just walk across in rubber boots? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Holland River Division. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Nice work on the Holland River Diversion article. I see it's now on the main page today. I had posted the short "clip" for the Newmarket Canal months ago. Thanks for the update. Oaktree b (talk) 21:11, 23 November 2015 (UTC) |
- @Oaktree b: thanks! It could definitely use some more pictures though. Maury Markowitz (talk) 22:38, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:PARL antenna close up.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:PARL antenna close up.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 09:53, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of IND$FILE
The article IND$FILE has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (software) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
