Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Masonboro Organization, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:Masonboro Organization/sandbox, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

Request reason:

I believe my page should be unblocked because I wasn't finished editing. I pushed "published" because I wanted to see what my page would look like before I shared the link to friends and family. Now that I know how Wikipedia works I will not push "publish" until I am certain that everything has been linked and sourced. I am new to the Wikipedia community and would love to have my page back. Thank you

Decline reason:

You need to change your username to something that represents you as an individual, not an organization. You will not be unblocked to write about your organization - you need to carefully read WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:PROMO. PhilKnight (talk) 14:10, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand but I work directly for the organization and the owners have requested that we may make a Wikipedia page in order to display their history...

Decline reason:

You have not proposed a new username as instructed. Wikipedia does not have pages, it has articles. We're not concerned with what the owners want or have tasked you with doing. If they want to tell the world about their organization, they may use social media or their own website. Wikipedia articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about an organization, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia has no interest in what an organization wants to say about itself. You won't be unblocked to edit about your organization, as noted above. If you want to be a general contributor and edit about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what those might be. If your only interest is in editing about your organization, there is nothing more to do here. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 14:55, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback even though it seems a bit condescending. I haven't ever published to Wikipedia before and just like anything there is a bit of a learning curve. There are a TON of reliable resources on the Masonboro Organization including on news stations, newspapers, and the list goes on.

I apologize for how my comments appeared, but I believe in direct honesty to avoid misunderstandings. As I said, you won't be unblocked to edit about your organization; we would prefer that independent editors who on their own took note of significant coverage of your organization (not press releases, brief mentions, or announcements of routine activities) choose on their own to write about it. Someone else will review your request, but unless you are interested in contributing to Wikipedia more broadly, there is nothing more to do here. 331dot (talk) 16:49, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You also still have not proposed a new username as instructed. Your username cannot be that of an organization. 331dot (talk) 16:50, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So if one of our volunteers writes about the organization... that would be considered an independent editor, correct? If so, they would still need this to be the title of the page... either "Masonboro Organization or Masonboro.Org. The article isn't going to be named themselves. There are obviously hundreds of other organization pages on Wikipedia so there has to be a way around this. Thank you for your help.

You're trying to game the system. Also, your new username is equally inappropriate. MER-C 18:56, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have confused creating an article with creating an account. This page is your user talk page, meant for communication with the person sitting at the computer operating this account. The username must reflect that fact(your real name is not required). There are also many things that you don't understand about Wikipedia. Please read about the five pillars. We aren't interested in any representative of your organization editing about it. This includes staff, volunteers, or any person off the street that you ask to write about it. We prefer that completely unconnected, independent editors take note of subjects in reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it. 331dot (talk) 19:20, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

hey there, i am one of the volunteers at masonboro organization. I am jumping-in where one of our colleagues left off this summer. I am new to wikipedia so trying to figure out how to publish this page. looking at the thread... we are not trying to promote masonboro.org but more show the history of the organization. we want people to be able to search for this nonprofit and understand the history of the mission. can someone walk me through the step by step process on how to be unblocked as well as proceed with starting this page. i would really appreicate it. thanks! I am trying to understand as I read. We will not publish the page but if someone does want to useful contributions as an independent person that is not currently affiliated with us we will still need to be unblocked

Rename not done

[edit]

I'm afraid abbreviating "organization" is no improvement. This is still a WP:CORPNAME. Because Wikipedia's policy is that usernames should not be shared between more than one individual, the following types of usernames are not permitted because they imply shared use:

  • Usernames that are simply names of companies or groups are not permitted (these also fall under Promotional names).
  • Personal usernames that imply shared access, such as "Jack and Jill", are not permitted.
  • Usernames that are names of posts within organizations, such as "Secretary of the XY Foundation", are not permitted, as such a post may be held by different persons at different times.
  • However, usernames are acceptable if they contain a company or group name but are clearly intended to denote an individual person, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", "WidgetFan87", etc. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:46, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
