Please help me with... Hello - I have written a biography of a living person. The article checks every box. The person is noteworthy. The livelink citations are legitimate. Ditto the footnotes. I would like to post it to Wikipedia, sometime before the man dies - he's going to be 88 in May and he's recovering from Covid-19. But smart as I am, I am overwhelmed by all the gates and halts and information I find in creating a Wikipedia article. Can someone help me figure out how to submit this article for review? Thank you. Marthature (talk) 18:03, 13 April 2022 (UTC) Marthature (talk) 18:03, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- You should use the Article wizard to create a draft page, which will be reviewed by experienced editors after submission. WP:YFA has thoughts about article creation, WP:CHEATSHEET is your friend for formatting issues, and WP:REFB is great for referencing. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Are you coming back...
[edit]...to Bobby Black? The gist of comments is that he is notable, but that the draft needs lots of work. Sentences such as "Initially Black thought the Cody band was not a good fit. But Stein persisted, and Black joined the band, transforming it from a bar band to a highly polished and professional troupe of musicians." have no reason to be in the article. - Yes, I am coming back to it when I fulfill the list of requirements. Marthature (talk) 12:15, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Paid editing
[edit]Hello Marthature. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Marthature. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Marthature|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 12:11, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I have no idea what gives you the impression that I have an undisclosed paid interest in this article. I DO NOT HAVE ANY UNDISCLOSED PAID INTEREST IN THIS ARTICLE. Marthature (talk) 12:17, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, it was just that your user page says "Skills include investigative journalism, research and writing". Theroadislong (talk) 12:19, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- So having those skills translates in your mind to having a paid interest? I can not follow your logic here. Marthature (talk) 12:24, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ok, it was just that your user page says "Skills include investigative journalism, research and writing". Theroadislong (talk) 12:19, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- You need to explain to me what gives you the impression that I have a paid interest in this matter. I am insulted, shocked, and appalled. I have no idea what your thought processes are, but you need to give me an explanation. Marthature (talk) 12:22, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Your draft Draft:Bobby Black (musician) was extremely promotional in tone and gave me the impression that you had some sort of connection to the topic, you have made it clear that you do not, have agood day. Theroadislong (talk) 12:29, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

- Hello,
- Can you please point out to me the phrases or sentences in my draft Bobby Black article that you state are copyrighted? I know that quotations are permitted, and I have quotations in quotes. But I do not see that I have used as my own words anything that is under someone else's copyright. I have the draft in front of me. (I also see that someone has edited it to create a non-sentence in the second paragraph. That needs to be fixed. There is also an ungrammatical sentence in the Career section, which needs editing.) I look forward to your response. Marthature (talk) 12:32, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there - I haven't yet received a reply from you to my question of June 9, 2022. I am sure you are very busy. Nevertheless, so am I very busy and I am eager to improve this article about Bobby Black if you will show my what you deem is paraphrasing too closely, copying and pasting, etc. Because you must know that I do not see any such phrases in my piece and therefore must ask again that you show me what they are. It's your criticism, not mine. Marthature (talk) 15:51, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

- Hello, Liz - You will find that I have in fact submitted a revised draft of the Bobby Black article. And received another critique saying it was inadequate. And asked the reviewer what it was s/he found unsourced, when I meticulously sourced the piece. Please keep it in queue and have someone reply to my sincere questions. Thank you.
