Gerda's November corner
In November, I can offer some reading, - three feast days in a row, reformation followed by All Saints' and All Souls. On All Saints, we sang in choir in a mass - a 2021 first - and rehearsed (with the other group) for the next such thing next Sunday. All Souls is the birthday of the subject of my first article who will play a major concert on 14 November. Today we "celebrate" the first DYK for which LouisAlain laid the base in a German sandbox, - needlessly complicated but working. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Many thanks as ever Gerda Arendt. A beautiful setting for your group to sing in. The Santa Fe Opera announced its 2022 season today and it is very exciting - to me anyway. Isabel L. will be making her Carmen debut. It is a role she has been looking forward to performing for a few years. She was set to sing it at the Houston Opera in the fall of 2020 but we all know why that was cancelled. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 07:25, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- BTW when I see a gorgeous picture of the suns rays beaming through a forest I think of the "Fairy Pipers" segment of Elgar's The Wand of Youth. Here is a nice version for any talk page watchers that might be interested. MarnetteD|Talk 07:25, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, inspirational as ever! Which setting do you mean, St. Martin or St. Bonifatius? The sunrays in St. Martin on my birthday when the subject of my first article played a piece that will be officially premiered on 14 Nov go well with those in the fog, I think. The other place is prominently displayed in Stabat Mater (Dvořák), and not by me, but I wasn't pleased then, as you will imagine. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- They are both nice but I was thinking of St. Bonifatius as I was typing GA. St. Martin is so intriguing as I've not seen anything quite like it before. I am curious as to what the acoustics are like there. MarnetteD|Talk 07:48, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Acoustics are perfect in St. Martin, and on every seat. We sing in a half-round in the apse. In St. Bonifatius, we NOW do the same, - then 40 people can sing distanced. Acoustics are terrible there, resonance of 6 seconds, unfortunately. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:03, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for these interesting details Gerda Arendt. I watched Gyndbourne's 2016 production of Béatrice et Bénédict this weekend. Most intriguing. It features leading roles for not one but two mezzos which made me very happy. I found the duet "Vous soupirez, madame" which ends Act 1 and Act 2's "Je vais d’un cœur aimant" breathtakingly lyrical and beautiful. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 20:17, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- In conjunction with the lovely bouquet of flowers that ToBeFree left you I would like to leave you this link to a performance of the "Drobnosti Op75a" by Antonín Dvořák. It brings beauty and calm to my life each time I hear it. Thanks for all you do for both the articles and the editors who work on them here at WikiP. MarnetteD|Talk 20:17, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Today, on a friend's concert day, 3 DYK, Brahms depicted + sadly Aga Mikolaj (listen!). May the roads that we travel make us meet again! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:14, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- A sad loss Gerda Arendt. Thank you so much for the link to her recordings. A warm and inviting voice. I'll be listening to her all morning. The drawing of Brahms is a hoot :-) Have a pleasant week. MarnetteD|Talk 14:29, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

New
I started 2 articles, Shakespeare coat of arms and Shakespeare's signet ring (also nominated Shakespeare knot for deletion). Feel free to have opinions. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:03, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for this notification Gråbergs Gråa Sång. I'll take a closer look when I have more time but my quick glance finds them well done and fascinating. You've made me want to track down and read Graham Holderness' story "The Adventure of Shakespeare's Ring" :-) Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 19:53, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
Ikiru
Hi - I noticed you reverted my addition to the plot of Ikiru. I also reviewed WP:FILMPLOT which I found helpful. I didn't find any specific guidelines regarding film endings, though this excerpt seems helpful: "In accordance with the content disclaimer and guidelines on spoilers, every important event in a film should be outlined..." I went back to re-watch the final scene of the film and it certainly seems very important. Children are called in from Watanabe's playground by their mothers as Kimura looks on.
I remembered it as being the "ghost" of Watanabe or at least a man resembling him, which seems somewhat alluded to because of the silhouette appearance of Kimura. We also see Watanabe's favorite swing (from the poster) swinging after the child gets off, further solidifying Watanabe's memory. Kimura walks away, feeling shame for carrying on the legacy of bureaucracy and the dishonor of not giving him proper credit for getting the playground built. This takes place after Kimura attempts to get his colleagues to remember their oath, but almost immediately backs down. Perhaps more opinions are necessary here but wanted to see what you think about the importance including the final scene in the plot summary. We're at 495 words now, so we would still be well under the 700 word max if we left in the final scene summary. Cheers. Incerto501 (talk) 19:21, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Incerto501. This is all WP:OR on your part. In other words you are putting your own interpretation of what is seen onscreen. It is true that everyone who views this (or any film for that matter) will have their own interpretation of the plot but WikiP plot sections should stick to a simple description of what is shown. I have watched the film dozens of times and never once thought that it was Watanabe looking on. I have also read numerous essays and critiques of the film and don't remember anyone else commenting about that. Please understand I am not trying to discount your take on this. It is interesting and unique. The thing is this is an encyclopedia and our articles need WP:RS for the inclusion of something like this. Now if you can find a film critic or scholar who shares your take on this you could include it in the Ikiru#Themes section. BTW you might be interested in this essay about “The Gondola Song” - it includes the fact that Shimura was an accomplished singer which I did not know before. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 19:43, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- You're right, I misremembered Kimura as Watanabe but after rewatching the scene this morning I noted Kimura's face is shown in the beginning of the scene. The silhouette stuck with me. I understand we should leave out the interpretations. What do you think of a single-sentence plain description of the final scene like: "Later that day, Kimura watches children play at Watanabe's playground from a bridge, walking away after they are called inside." If you don't think it's necessary, no worries - it just seemed natural to include something about this since it's the final image and shows Kimura's guilt after he stands up in the office but says nothing. Also I read the Criterion piece - very interesting analysis on the use of sound and music. There's always a million things I don't pick up on in classic films. Incerto501 (talk) 05:04, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I think you could add that sentence Incerto501. I can't predict how other editors who have the article on their watchlist will react but it is worth a try. Film is a remarkable art form. While some of those made are strictly for entertainment purposes many directors are trying to do something more and Kurosawa is definitely one of those. Keep enjoying and learning from the films you watch and have a great week :-) MarnetteD|Talk 14:23, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello
I got accused. Starkiryu64 (talk) 12:41, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- I am sorry to hear this Starkiryu64. The evidence at the SPI is circumstantial but I don't know how that will finish. The post you made on your talk page about not misusing "any of your accounts" could be misinterpreted. You should edit with one and only one account. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 14:50, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- Well, I got an account in Italian and I didn't use it to edit. Heck, I didn't even speak Italian. Starkiryu64 (talk) 15:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

I will add that, when you get to be my age, there are lots of good memories of people, places and things but, there are also sad ones of those who are gone and won't be coming back. The upcoming holiday season just makes those memories more poignant. I hope that school is going well for you and that everyone where you are has a nice Thanksgiving. Best regards. What do you think about Kill la Kill, M? Starkiryu64 (talk) 17:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- Sleep was elusive for me a couple nights ago S so I did start watching it. I am really enjoying it. They sure do fit in a lot of story and action into each 25 minute episode! After watching episode two I'll never be able to watch a tennis match the same way again :-) The idea of "living thread" was pretty cool as well. The buildings and backgrounds remind me a little of those created for the film Wizards - not a strong similarity I admit but enough to add to the fun of watching Kill la Kill for me. Here is a pic of Scorch One from Bakshi's film. Thanks for making me aware of this series and have a great weekend! MarnetteD|Talk 20:08, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- The series was pretty gud. When you said "I'll never be able to watch a tennis match the same way again", I laughing so hard. I hope you will enjoy the entire series you'll NEVER regretted it watching. And have a nice weekend too, M. Starkiryu64 (talk) 22:18, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- OK. I give you a test. What was the plot of the series? Starkiryu64 (talk) 01:43, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- I don't think I can answer that yet S. I finished ep 4 tonight. So far whatever I think the plot is in each ep gets changed by the events in the next one. New characters and motivations keep being introduced all the time. I'll give you a better answer when I get to the end. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 03:16, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Yello, M. How's your day? Look at the articles that I edited: Nou (TV channel), and Radiotelevisió Valenciana.Starkiryu64 (talk) 01:43, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'm doing okay S. Temps dropped into the 40's today so my bones are aching a little bit. Especially my hands. You work on the articles looks good - congrats. The second one had several refs that were using the Spanish language templates so I switch them over to English language ones and that made all of the red warnings in the refs go away :-) I finished episode seven today. Seems the whole family learned that money and prestige don't equal happiness. I get a laugh out of how they have a snot bubble form when they are sleeping. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 02:17, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- I know about it. One of my favorite characters from the series is Mako. She is cute and funny at the same time. The reason why I edited The two articles is that they didn't show much information about the channel and a company from Spain. And the bubble form when someone is sleeping was common in anime. I hope you'll go to Ep. 11, so you will get who's the killer of Ryuko's father. Best regards. Starkiryu64 (talk) 02:32, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- Well, I hope you'll see Ep. 11. (; Starkiryu64 (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'm trying to watch one ep a day S so it should be Friday - maybe Saturday if something happens. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 16:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
How's your day, M? Mine's a little hard day. Starkiryu64 (talk) 02:01, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- I am sorry to hear that S. Mine was okay. I watched the film Throw Down which I really liked. Please take care of yourself and things will get better. MarnetteD|Talk 02:57, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

Hey, M. How's your day? Mine a OK day. It was supposed to snow today but it didn't happen. Starkiryu64 (talk) 23:22, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- A good day here too S. No snow here either. We are supposed to get some on Friday but not much which is fine with me as shoveling is not good for my aching back. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 00:46, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ouch. Yeah it's no good to shovel when it was snowing. But here's a compilation of old Christmas commercial. Sorry for the inconvenience.(: Starkiryu64 (talk) 02:55, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

How's your day, M. Mine's was pretty great. Starkiryu64 (talk) 21:53, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- That is great S. I just finished ep 11 a couple minutes ago. Interesting to learn who murdered her father. When I saw the other half of the scissors I guessed that would be the case. I look forward to learning more about what happened in future episodes. As each member of the Elite Four are beaten by Ryuko they go and sit by Mako. I enjoy how she gives them a hard time. She is a fave for me as well ;-) MarnetteD|Talk 22:16, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

- Hi again S. Please be patient with me. It is a busy time and I am not here at WikiP as often each day as I usually am. I'm not ignoring you and I'm always happy to see your messages and reply when I get a chance. Today was okay. I watched ep 12 and I have a question. Is Nui's eye patch a specific Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji? I hope you have a fun and safe trip to DC!!! Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 03:50, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Bare url question
I tagged Mir Mohammad Ali Khan, and before that was addressed, a new-ish editor archived all the links, and then another experienced editor removed the tag. The result is a list of refs that is completely useless (visually), you have to open each one to learn anything about the source. I don't know that this is in conflict with any policy/procedure, but the result is horrible. Technically, they are not bare urls anymore because they are wrapped in citation templates but they are effectively still bareurls. Any comments? MB 15:18, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello MB. I have no idea why IABot turned all of those into archived links. I went back to the way the article was before that happened and ran the page through reflinks in my sandbox. It looks like things are the way they should be. If you see IABot doing things like that again you might need to contact the operator and/or report at to the WP:VPT. FYI due to certain events I'm doing almost no bare url fixes. However, if you ever have a page that you would like me to work on please feel free to ask and I will see what I can do. Best regards and enjoy your week. MarnetteD|Talk 20:20, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
Marriage template and deprecated parameters
Hi, MarnetteD. I saw your edit to Stanley Kubrick, where you reverted the |end=
parameters of the {{Marriage}} template, saying they've been deprecated. When have they been deprecated and why? Was there a discussion on it? —El Millo (talk) 00:48, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Facu-el Millo. The discussion was a little while ago and I did not take part. I think it must have taken place at the infobox person (since there is nothing at the marriage template that you linked to but I can't find it at the moment. I know that I have also seen an edit summary linking to the specific guideline but, like a maroon I didn't copy it into my sandbox - if I ever see it again I'll drop you a link to the edit. I know there has been back and forth about this over the years. I also note that there is nothing about it in the documentation for either the infobox or the template. I've lost track of how many times a consensus is reached about something but the documentation doesn't get updated. You could try asking at the infobox person or the WP:VPP to see what others remember. Also, since I can't find any answers for you, I know you don't have to trust my memory. Thus, you can restore it if you wish - that might lead to another editor removing it. Cheers and enjoy your week. MarnetteD|Talk 03:28, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello
Hello, M, how's your weekend and day. Mine's at Washington D.C. is amazing! I went many of the historical monuments, except the Smithsonian museums. and today was good after all. I hope you saw Nui today. Starkiryu64 (talk) 04:06, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- I sure saw her S - ep 13 today :-) I am so glad you are enjoying your trip. There is so much to see there. You could spend a year seeing all of the Smithsonian museums. Enjoy the rest of your week. MarnetteD|Talk 06:15, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, but we did leave Washington. It was cool and fun, P.S. the food trucks that parks is a little bad. We went to Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the United States Capitol. And then we eat Pollo Campero for dinner, and our last stop in Washington is when were Christmas shopping at Marshalls. My sister lost her phone in Washington. P.S. - Thanks for trying to share S. Unfortunately I am not signed up for Spotify so I can't access the list. I'm sure there are some songs that I would know and others that I'd be glad to learn about. I have one concern. I don't know how Spotify works so I want to ask does this link mean that others can learn who you are away from Wikipedia. If you want to remain anonymous here I'm sure we can ask an admin to rev/del the post and link to remove any identifying info. I'm sorry to cause worry - I just want editors here to be protected from trolls and such in real life. Have a nice Sunday. MarnetteD|Talk 06:29, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

The internet is full of trolls and predators and I don't want any of them making your life difficult or worse. I finished Kill la Kill. The final battle was thrilling. - For me S the main plot was the fight against someone or something trying to make us all exactly the same. There were several subplots including the importance of family and friends and the kooky one of the nudists fighting against the tyranny of clothes. As you say these are a couple of the ones I picked out and you (and other viewers) will have different ones :-) MarnetteD|Talk 00:23, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

- The Life Fibers reminds me of the Cybermen. Well, my plot is that Ryuko Matoi was trying to find the killer. So she blames it to Satsuki Kiryuin, who unbeknownst to the both of them, they are sisters. Which was the good twist I ever seen. But when Nui got the Blade in Ep. 11 and tells Ryuko that she is, in fact, the culprit behind Isshin's murder is the BEST twist I've ever seen. I enjoy the fighting scenes, and the nudity, SUPER GUD. So I'm just waking up to another feast day, landscape lightly powdered with snow which fell yesterday afternoon (for those dreaming of a white Christmas). I missed singing in choir, but the Martinis (begun as youth choir, and now chamber choir - pictured) was inspiring, and promising for singing going on after us. Company was small, but making talk more personal and meaningful, so yes! Will upload images, and now make card 3, and - as they had 3 days of Christmas when Bach composed - there will be card 4 tomorrow. - I must say that I feel honored having a DYK on each of these four days, - I said in a discussion let's have hooks about things that could be presents, such as books, and that's for today: read and remember. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:52, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

IP editor
You have edited many of these articles: Alaettin Çakıcı, Sedat Peker, Ali Yasak, Dündar Kılıç, Savaş Buldan, Ömer Lütfü Topal, Sami Hoştan for the same reason as I have. They all have data in the infobox that does not belong, mostly names of children and other unrelated relatives. I also remove redundant nationality per WP:INFONAT which you don't tend to do, and unlink the country per WP:OL which you don't tend to do. Every change I make gets undone by an IP that changes every day. Can't post a succession of disruptive editing warnings when the IP is never the same. Protecting them is probably no solution (there may be more than these). I did try to protect one, but the request was declined with "not enough disruption". I can't keep reverting every day. Any suggestion on how to proceed? MB 23:08, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello MB. The only thing I can think of is a range block. As I am not an admin I have no idea how to do one and I'm not even sure where to ask. Maybe the WP:VPM. Sorry I can't be of more help. Enjoy the rest of your week in spite of this. MarnetteD|Talk 23:32, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Blocks are not a VPM matter - try WP:AIV or WP:RFPP, or possibly WP:AN but be sure to provide evidence for all of them. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:38, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks RR. Sorry for the wrong info about VPM MB. I know AIV has changed over the years but these edits are mostly content problems and not outright vandalism so I don't know that any action will be taken there. AN may be your best bet. As I checked it looked like the IPs all started with an 88 but I gotta head off wikiP so I could be wrong. MarnetteD|Talk 23:44, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
