Why did you removed the sentence for U.S. Route 28? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.100.126.18 (talk) 23:19, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Because it did not have a WP:RS to confirm the statement. MarnetteD|Talk 23:21, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Why do you keep undoing my work on the Vivian Kubrick article?
Stop deleting my work! The first time you did it was valid: I didn't include references. So okay, I fixed that. Now you've deleted my work again, but this time you've come up with a different reason: my edits aren't valid.
If that's the case, why didn't you say that the first time? And are you going to give a third reason when you delete it the next time?
If you do delete it again, I'll file a formal complaint, and we can let it be adjudicated.
Not sure why you think you're the sole arbiter of who gets to edit this article: Wikipedia is a community project. Chillowack (talk) 03:31, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- Why do you not read the policies and guidelines that I link to. You will have a hard time understanding how things are done on WikiP if you don't. First the info violates WP:NOTNEWS. Next you are using WP:PRIMARY sources. Info is supposed to be based on commentary in WP:SECONDARY sources. All the stuff about Duvall and Dr P is irrelevant to Kubrick's article as it has nothing to do with her. I have made a compromise edit to include a small mention of what Kubrick did. But it is entirely possible that others will find it WP:UNDUE info and it might be removed. Yes WikiP is a community project and my editing is based on the policies and guidelines established by that community. Please read them and ask questions about those that you do not understand. MarnetteD|Talk 03:38, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- I have read those guidelines, and I don't think I violated them. However: I don't want to fight about it, and since you did compromise, I'm not going to push it anymore. No hard feelings. Chillowack (talk) 04:07, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Ref Desk troll
You are probably right, but I always tend to WP:AGF. And, for reasons maybe obvious in this context, I prefer to abbreviate my name as StS. No harm, of course ;-). --Stephan Schulz (talk) 22:31, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note Stephan Schulz. Jeepers I didn't even think of the context until reading your post here. I'll keep it in mind in the future :-) Best regards and I hope you have a pleasant Sunday. MarnetteD|Talk 23:07, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

216.152.182.8
216.152.182.8 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) Is taking quite the liberties with categories. Most are unsourced and many quite dubious. this one a Popeye as category:Films about Native Americans. Perhaps category:Films depicting Native Americans in a derogatory manner might be more appropriate. I've reverted a few. I see you have been busy with this anon as well... Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 04:41, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hello Jim1138. Yep, this one has been around for some time editing from various IPs. Their info is never sourced - often wrong - and usually does not follow WP:MOSFILM. They are forever adding the cats of studios that distribute the film rather than the ones that made it. This is a violation of both Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Categorization and WP:CATDEF since the distributor IS NOT a defining characteristic of a film. A few years ago I (and others thought I can't remember who now) tried to explain this on a few of their talk pages but we were always ignored so we stopped trying. They probably deserve a LTA report but I imagine tracking down the old IPs would be a task no one (not even a bot) would want to do. Thanks for you efforts in dealing with their edits and cheers back at ya :-) MarnetteD|Talk 06:08, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Presentation of a tweet
Hello,
I saw on the Despicable Me 2 article that you reverted an edit that I made regarding a tweet. I did not add the tweet myself (it was added in 2012), I just reformatted it to the tweet citing format. I'm not certain if that would invalidate the original retrieving date for it, so I reverted it back. I would like to have it back to the original presentation. Please advise. Thank you. 205.189.94.11 (talk) 20:47, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- The date is immaterial in this case so please leave it in the current format. MarnetteD|Talk 20:53, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Your opinion of Mafia Lincoln
Hi MarnetteD, I noticed this user's contributions consist almost exclusively of changes to awards and nominations of various actor articles. It's not who I think it is, right? Am I just being paranoid? Sro23 (talk) 14:43, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

- Are you interested? a. I don't see any (technical) evidence that this is related to Atomic Meltdown (I checked by way of Jupiter Europa)--but then again, look at the user names: these are all really similar especially since b. Mafia Lincoln and Arthom Metro (again such names) are indistinguishable, from a technical point of view. Now, Hayal12 and Mafia Lincoln have technical similarities but widely different geolocations; as a side note, I wonder if Chicken9182 is Hayal on a cell phone or something like that. So I suggest y'all consider getting a smarter CU than me (the geolocation doesn't match up between Mafia and Jupiter, but there may be proxies or whatever), and/or teasing out what else is going on with Mafia and Arthom, and with Chicken and Hayal. It may well be that there's two or three SPIs in here. Drmies (talk) 18:35, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Concerning film directors and their acclaimed works
Can you please explain what makes the use of TSPDT as a source "as POV as anything else"? AndrewOne (talk) 01:09, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hello AndrewOne. The reason is that TSPDT is just Bill Georgaris' opinion about films. On the website he states "TSPDT is just Bill Georgaris' opinion. In fact he states that "TSPDT is a completely hobby-driven enterprise which merely aims to provide a reasonable cinematic resource for fellow enthusiasts." and that pretty much defines POV. I don't, for one second, doubt your appreciation of films and the people who make them. I also don't doubt your dedication to WikiP. In this case you should know that the film project (and its sister project "Actors and Filmmakers") deprecated using that field years ago. No matter who you chose to cite the next editor comes along and says "Oh this film is missing and needs to be there" and/or "this one doesn't belong" and they become a POV mess. Also, in some/many cases they restate what is in the lead and that kind of repetition is not useful. I hope that this helps to explain things but I understand if it doesn't. In any case thanks for your work here at WikiP and have a pleasant week. MarnetteD|Talk 02:33, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- I can understand your case against "Notable works" sections, but not your argument against TSPDT as a source. The website is not at all a mere display of Georgaris' opinion; its lists come from large calculations taking into account various "best-of" critics' polls and lists. None of the rankings are intended to represent Georgaris' opinion; it is a broad effort to determine which films are most celebrated by critics. I therefore fail to see what causes it to "pretty much [define] POV". AndrewOne (talk) 04:16, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Richard II DVD
Hi Michael, just wondering did you wonder the Illuminations DVD of Deborah Warner's Richard II from Amazon.co.uk? I just got an email from Amazon saying my delivery estimate (December 2) had changed; paraphrasing, but basically, they don't know what the new estimate is as they're out of stock and not sure when (or if) they'll be getting any new ones in. I ordered mine literally the day Illuminations announced it, so I emailed Illuminations, and they got back to me saying Amazon have yet to make an order for the DVD at all. They were actually planning on contacting them regarding why they hadn't heard from them. In any case the person I spoke to recommended I order from their website direct, as apart from the wait which we now face on Amazon, the DVD is actually £7 cheaper (which makes no sense at all to me, but I didn't ask!) If you're waiting on Amazon, you may want to cancel your order and go direct to the website ([1]). I think they ship to the US (it's in the list of drop down countries anyway), but if they don't and you want to get it sooner rather than later, PM me your address, and I'll be happy to sort something out with you. With this, and the disc writing error on Wars of the Roses, I'm thinking Illuminations may want to be employing more reliable people!!!! Bertaut (talk) 00:54, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- Just checked. They do ship to the States. Shipping is £5.50 Bertaut (talk) 00:57, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info B. I hadn't placed an order yet so I really appreciate the extra steps you took to find out what is going on. The Holidays take up some of my entertainment budget. On the flip side the exchange rate is the best it has been in my lifetime so I'll be getting it sooner rather than later.. Hopefully this is just growing pains for Illuminations. They are certainly coming up with some treasures that deserve to be seen. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 02:12, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- No worries sir. Just cancelled my Amazon order and ordered direct, so I'll let you know how it goes. The exchange rate is nuts here too. Almost 1:1 Euro: Pound. In fact, some shops in Northern Ireland are literally offering Euro for Pound sales. What they're loosing on the price, they're making up for in the amount of business they do from southern shoppers going up. A friend of mine bought a bike for his son for £129 (in a place doing Euros for Pounds). Here it's €549. Saved over €400 for the price of a tank of gas. Tells you a lot about Brexit, Rip-off Ireland, and why the M50 here is like a carpark (that's the main road to the North, in case you're wondering!!) Bertaut (talk) 02:31, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

BBC America current shows
20:04, 4 December 2016 MarnetteD . . (no they shouldn't - only shows currently airing belong here - if and when shows return then we list them)

Shakespeare at the National Theatre (via Google Arts & Culture)
Here's a bit of online audio-visual goodness, compiled by the person who recently wrote the tome The National Theatre Story. I didn't know who to share this with, but I thought you or your talk-page watchers might be interested: [2]. Cheers, Softlavender (talk) 19:37, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks so much Softlavender!! A treasure trove of info. I will be strolling through it again and again. I wonder if Bertaut was in the audience for any of these. I always like seeing other actors that I admire in the pics. John Castle is in one of the Hamlet shots :-) This DVD set makes a good companion. I know we've talked about these before so I leave the link for other TPW's. The book looks wonderful and, due to Brexit (see above) it looks like it is less expensive on Amazon UK. Again many, many thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 20:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
- I did see The Comedy of Errors with Lenny Henry on one of my trips to London. It's not my favourite play, and poor Lenny had a lot of trouble speaking the verse, and was acted off the stage by Chris Jarman (best known as the narrator of Tattoo Fixers!!!) as Antipholus of Ephesus, but, by and large, it was a great show. That's a terrific resource there though. Thanks for the post Softlavender, and the heads up Marnette. Bertaut (talk) 02:23, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience Bertaut. The mention of LH is timely as one of my favo(u)rite viewing traditions for this season is Bernard and the Genie. Lenny is a treat but the mind-boggling thing is seeing a young, but already wonderfully precocious, Alan Cumming. Thanks again and cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 02:49, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
- Haha, Bertaut, I saw that Comedy of Errors myself, live, 7,000 miles away here in Hawaii, on NT Live (before the sponsor distributing the series stopped cine-casting it on my island). I adored Lenny in it, and indeed the entire cast, and the production and direction, were all hilarious. I really wish they would release all of the fantastic NT Live productions on DVD or streaming (after all it was James Corden starring in NT Live's hysterical One Man, Two Guvnors that got him famous enough to come to star on Bway and then become permanent host of the The Late Late Show in the U.S.). M, I'm definitely going to get the book! Thanks for noting the currency on the book is favorable on Amazon UK. Had not heard of Bernard and the Genie; put it on my Watch List. And yes, talk-page watchers who are theatre fans, the National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage DVD set that M linked is an absolute must-have -- tons of great filmed live-theatre scenes from NT from over the years! Softlavender (talk) 07:50, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
- What a treat for you Softlavender. I hope B&tG is available for your viewing pleasure. I've always had a sense that it was an attempt by Richard Curtis to show that he could do more than write for Blackadder though that is WP:OR on my part :-) One thing just popped to mind - if there is higher shipping rates to get items all the way to your part of the world then AmazonUK might not be as good of a deal. This book might be of interest to you both as well. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:52, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Hey Marnette: as you may have seen the IP editor had some complaints about you. I do not think they are valid, which is why I blocked them, but the editor seems reasonable enough and I trust they won't bother you again. I did promise them I would tell you that they took issue with your comments--do with this information what you like. Take care, Drmies (talk) 04:47, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

I used life experience over WP:RSing which must be why WikiP has all those policies and guidelines :-) If it is agreeable with the IP to stay off my talk page over this issue I think lifting the block early is a good idea. Cheers and have a pleasant weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 04:55, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

- I left my vinyl in the old world when I moved to the new. God knows where it is now. I have a few albums here that I picked up accidentally, so while I can certainly sing along with the old "this is the wax, I'm not using the CD", it's all CD for me. Napoleon
No, I did not know that Napoleon was out on DVD, perhaps in part because I am so much more now involved with the Bay Area theatre scene, and don't go to movies as much as I used to.
But I DID get to see the Stanley Kubrick exhibit in San Francisco during its 3-month run at the Jewish museum!! (And see 2001 in a big theatre this past April.) I have a photo of myself leaning over the miniature hedge maze from The Shining posed like Nicholson, and also got good photos of the Star Child, Moonwatcher's [almost typed Moonraker there] costume, masks from Eyes Wide Shut, female mannequins from Clockwork Orange, Kubrick's directors chair and chess set, letters of protest he got from various morals organizations re Lolita, as well as copious directors note. They even had a wall of books with all the stuff he bought (and read??) preparing for Napoleon.
I should send a few of these down your way.
I remain busy working as a tutor, teaching in an afterschool program in Alameda (currently on counter-intuitive probabilities), and being on the staff and curriculum committee of a summer camp.
Re a years old edit-war I had with User:Shirtwaist way back (he's no longer active) I can now verify that the Aeroflot logo is clearly visible on the tote-bags of the Russian scientists on the space station in 2001 (re last April's viewing of the film).--WickerGuy (talk) 19:37, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- So good to hear from you WickerGuy. Thanks for catching me up on all that is going on for you. I forgot to mention (but am sure that you noticed) that Napoleon is only available for region 2. Rights issues are still preventing a region 1 release. The set comes several extras including a 1968 documentary about Gance narrated by Lindsay Anderson. It also includes a nice booklet full of essays, stills and lobby cards from the original release and an interview with Carl Davis about his musical score. The SK exhibition sounds like a real treat. It is great that you got to see 2001 on the big screen again and verifies the Aeroflot logo. The fact that the one ship is Pan Am always makes me nostalgic as that is the airline I flew to Europe on back in 1980. I read Clarke's book back in Feb - I hadn't since the late 80's. At one point in his journey to the moon Floyd is reading a "news tablet" where he can chose papers from all over the world - even more prescient was the fact that it had a crawl along the bottom of the screen with news updates. Again I'm so glad you stopped by :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 20:21, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- For a long time Pope Joan (2009 film) was out only on Region 2, but I find it can now can be purchased on Region 1 & 4. It was shown only once on an American cable station, and has received little US attention. It's quite good and far better than the Liv Ullmann version done in the early 1970s (which I only saw part of).--WickerGuy (talk) 19:39, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Poland protection template
Could I request that the Poland semi-protection template is reinstated, This article (as most European country articles) was in semi-protected status, yet for some reason an admin just took it down, then after a spat of petty vandalize it was re-instated for two week, now again the article is open to all edits. Not sure where the debate took place to remove the protection status, I know it was temporarily strengthened for a week, but then it should be been returned to its original status, not removed completely. --E-960 (talk) 16:25, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hello E-960. You should be aware that the template does not protect the article - it only shows that an article has been protected. When that protection has expired the template is removed by either a bot or another editor so that it does not appear in Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. If you feel that the article needs further protection you need to file a request at WP:RFPP. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:25, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

If or when you have a moment, can you take a look at the recent changes to this article. I have neither the time nor inclination to get into an edit war, but the recent additions are questionable, at best. Many thanks. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 00:31, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hello TheOldJacobite. Looks like it is back to the preferred version. All I can say is "ouch" - wordpress and youtube as sources :-/ They should post this theory on their facebook page. I've added the article to my watchlist. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 01:23, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Script running on 123.103.148.92
123.103.148.92 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) Appears to have a script running. I've set my prefs to show seconds on edit times. 123.103.148.92 restores vandalism in a 2-4 seconds. Can't wait until someone does IP hopping and script vandalism at the same time. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 05:06, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update Jim1138. I think the ref desk troll gets going that fast at times - ir maybe it just seems like it :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 05:15, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- Materialscientist reverted was undone two seconds later then blocked and reverted. Too fast for a manual operation. I want to have another option instead of blocking. Send them to a virtual reality. The vandal would think they were doing all sorts of stuff, but in reality, it would only be visible to them. They could spend hours vandalizing w/o effect. Maybe have an entertainment portal on Wikipedia. Sell tickets to watch. Jim1138 (talk) 05:27, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

The Return of The Doctor in an epic New York adventure.
M, I have just watched this year's one-hour-long Doctor Who Christmas Special and was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Wondering when you get to see it on BBC America.
We were also given an early taster of the new series starting "in the spring". — Gareth Griffith-Jones | The Welsh | Buzzard | 19:09, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Gareth. I'm glad that you liked it an that makes my eagerness to watch it grow :-) It starts here at 7pm (2am your time if I am doing the math right) but I won't start watching until 30 minutes or so after that. BBCA adds commercials and I wait while the DVR is recording it so that I can fast forward through them. We also get the Call the Midwife Xmas special at 6pm on another channel so I may watch that first. We also get the new episode of Sherlock next Sunday so it is gonna be a fun week. Cheers. (talk page stalker) Your mast plan and mine are the same. Thanks for the update, Gareth! MD sent me a text and suggested I give it a read. I'm looking forward to seeing it; we don't get it until 9:00 pm, so I really have a wait. I'm hoping I can find GBBO's first Christmas special on YouTube and watch it before someone at the Beeb discovers it's there. You boys have fun! --Drmargi (talk) 20:19, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
Outing and ANI
Hi, just as a follow up to your post at ANI, while in this case the report was bollocks, editors should not provide links to outing material on-wiki unless they want to risk getting in trouble themselves. If you come across evidence of outing it should be sent to Arbcom or the Functionaries for investigation and action. Lankiveil (speak to me) 00:59, 27 December 2016 (UTC).
- Thanks for the info Lankiveil. The same sort of thing was claimed about me last month. It was also bollocks. MarnetteD|Talk 01:09, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)
The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.
The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?
Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!
In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. I thought I would point you to the new source check category, Category:Pages with active help requests for the IABot Interface, which has replaced the excessively large and impossible to maintain old category.
Users that have difficulty using the new interface the template points to can activate a help request that will place the page in a category. Should be much easier to maintain, and allows for a much more productive user involvement in improving IABot's reliability.—cyberpowerChat:Online 13:29, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Marnette, My name is Matt. I'm new to the Wikipedia editing community. I didn't realize we weren't supposed to add links to Section Headers. Thanks for letting me know.
There are some major lacks of neutrality on the page I was editing (Nate Mendel, bassist for Foo Fighters.) I'm trying to go about remedying this. I made some really good revisions today, and found that they were reverted without any explanation by "GeneralizationsAreBad."
I see that you undid all the revisions I made, not just the header link. Can you advise me on how to proceed?
Many thanks Matt

Editing of "The Buddha of Suburbia" section in David Bowie Wiki entry
Hi, I'm unclear why my entire edit has been wiped consistently. If a source is needed, I've sent several reliable ones. Also, I believe I have improved the original edit with additional information about the BBC television production based on Hanif Kureishi's novel. I know what I've added to the section is valid and an improvement, so what source is required? I've sent various links.
Also, after this continual reversion of editing began, I signed up and created an account, so I will use that as an ID consistently from now on.
Thanks,
--Sreedb (talk) 23:24, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
