Santa Fe Opera

@Viva-Verdi: Thanks for your kind note in return. Yes time goes by so quickly on WikiP and off. I got to take a backstage tour in my very first visit way back in 1975! It was on a trip conducted by Denver's classical radio station KVOD. We saw "Carmen" and "Falstaff" and the tour was during a rehearsal for "Cosi fan tutte." I hope that the people on your tour enjoyed it. I also hope that you enjoyed the "Fidelio" performance. I haven't been able to get there for the last couple summers but I did see "Griselda" in 2011. With that being the first Vivaldi and this summer being the first Beethoven it gives me hope that Dvorak's "Rusalka" might be performed there one day. I know it isn't considered to be among the top flight operas but I have always felt that the SFO would be the perfect setting for it - especially on the night of a full moon. This wishful thinking is fueled, in part, by a night in late July of 1988 when I attended the performance of "The Flying Dutchman" - Thunder and lightening on the horizon in act one - a light rain all through act two - clear star filled skies in act three and the extraordinary voice of James Morris throughout. Old Speckled Hen. I stopped drinking that when they moved production from Abingdon (four miles from where I live) to Bury St Edmunds (120 miles away in Suffolk). It's not just the loyalty to Morland's - the water's different so they can't get the taste right. I know that things are different now but one of my favorite memories of my 1980 hitchhiking tour of your sceptered isle was being in small town pubs and drinking the locally brewed ales, stouts and porters that they brought up from the basement in wooden casks. We can make great contributions as we have been a collectors publication for over 40 years "The Illustrators Collectors New" and we do not even exist according to Wiki we also have 100s of articles on illustrators and much information here that Wikipedia does not have and could use. Also you did remove our listing for our new 12th edition Maxfield Parrish guide under: Further reading; we thought that would be alright since you have another, older, MP guide by Flacks listed under that same section. Thanks for your post. He is not saying that he is closer to forty in the literal sense. It is a metaphor for how he feels physically. Another saying that is akin to it is "It isn't the years - it is the mileage." Indiana Jones says it on the ship in the Raiders of the Lost Ark though it isn't original to that film. Hi @SNUGGUMS:. Oof this aging eyesight. All I could see was a little box not a stylized MJ. Now I think that @Drmargi: did know what was going on. Apologies to you both for my confusion. I am not sure about ownership of that specific article. You would have too look at its edit history to establish that. What MJ is displaying is an odd obsession with this "PERENNIAL PROPOSAL" nonsense. A) I have never seen that term before and B) The discussions I have seen about sourcing come down on the side of "it is required." Indeed WP:V and its subsection WP:BURDEN are policies as opposed to essays or guidelines. I can say that MJ was in violation of the WP:NOEDIT section of WP:BULLY. Now that is an essay but if it could be established that MJ repeated that behavior with several editors then IMO an AN/I thread would be appropriate. I know you are aware that there can be pluses and minuses in doing that. Ah well I will close by saying that I hope that you both have a delightful weekend. Cheers. Safety Last!

Thanks for the message Dr. Blofeld. I am glad you enjoyed the film. Lloyd's stunt work is even more amazing when you realize that he lost the thumb and forefinger on his right hand a few years earlier. I noticed the buildings but I was helped by the "making of" documentary (which includes several stills showing how the setups for the climb were done) and the commentary that accompanies the film that come with the Criterion Collection bluray. That companies product is truly a film class in a box. It is also wonderful to see the whole film because there are numerous wonderful moments. I am not sure how any of yesterdays socks (which were coming fast and furious at one point) would connect to the editor you mention who was a problem seven years ago. Was the one edit to Wigan anything like the ones that you dealt with back then? Also, I don't know it you saw then before they were deleted but WoW65 created 4 or 5 stub article that were deleted. If they were like the ones that Homeontherange/NigelHowells was in the habit of making that would help bolster your suspicions. I think Smalljim removed them so you might ask him to take a look. I see that you reverted my change to the hatnote on The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Thanks for the explanation Niceguyedc. Although there are four articles listed on the page there are only two articles that have TPoMJB as their title - the novel and the film. Do you think that we per WP:PRIMARY should remove the (novel) - hatnote that article and the film and delete or redirect the "DAB" page. Or should we just leave things as they are. I did a small amount of research, and it looks like it should stay the way it is. The novel and the film are linked by a little over 100 articles. Simple Google searches for "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie film" and "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie book" yield a similar number of results (120,000 vs. 140,000, with a "novel" search showing about 76,000). An argument for making the novel the WP:PRIMARY topic is that the film is based on the novel, and the novel is (slightly) more notable, but I don't think that is enough to make it the primary topic. Audie Murphy

The page is not protected yet. Just requested as such. I reverted your edit only because something went haywire, and it also deleted all the images on the page. Have no idea why. However, in regards to the dates as I have them, they are styled as military dates because of his career. The images show up just fine for me. As to military dating it is noted at WP:STRONGNAT that is modern formatting. That wasn't the case when he was in the military when he was in it. No it isn't. Do you actually read AN and AN/I. Editors are accused of socking all the time at both. Sometime it is correct sometimes it isn't. In either case it is not a violation of WP:NPA. You are certainly free to post stating that you don't believe that socking is occurring but you are in clear violation of talk page guidelines and policies by trying to silence the edit in question. Make Way for Tomorrow

That's a not very well known little gem. Lovely film about an aging couple. Bondi's performance is Oscar worthy, she should have won best actress in 1937! If you haven't seen it here, click 480 and download. It takes at least 30 minutes to download though. The last 30 minutes are so beautiful. Yeah it's worth getting on DVD, definitely. I saw Things to Come yesterday which I was also highly impressed with, reminded me of Metropolis. A visual masterpiece and imaginative with some superb acting from Ralph Richardson. Some of the sets, especially the last one without looked like the interior of a high shopping mall with platform which appeared in thin air were quite impressive for the period. Obviously a lot of the effects are comical now but for its time and what it was trying to achieve I see it as a landmark film. Dom DeLuise

You recently removed a category from Dom DeLuise. I partially agree and disagree. There is a source in the early life section that he graduated from there and attended Tufts. The source states the opposite, that he attended the high school and graduated from Tufts. He is listed at their alumni site as having graduated in 1951 (appropriate age 18 for high school). Thanks for your note and your research @Loriendrew:. To quote from WP:CAT "Categorization of articles must be verifiable. It should be clear from verifiable information in the article why it was placed in each of its categories." I have added italics to the word clear. The sentence in DeLuise's article reads "DeLuise graduated from Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts..." A reader has to go to that article to find that this school is "A Division of the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts." So a) it is not clear in the DeLuise article why the category is there b) For me "A division of" is not the same things as the school itself. A read through of High School of Performing Arts#Development of a new building and a joint school shows that the merge with FHLHS... did not occur until 1961 when DeLuise would have been 28. I would also point out that the NYTimes ref does not mention any connection MHSoPA and the FHLHSoM&AaPAs at all. Based on all of this I don't think that the category can be added to the article. One other item I don't know if you have seen this Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Editor ignoring categorization concerns and mass-editing and apologies if you already have) where questions have been raised about the adding of the categor to various articles. I can't tell for sure but it looks like PC might have gotten carried away and started adding the category to articles some of which it should have it and some of which shouldn't. That is good news @Lugnuts:. SK's films are meant to be seen in a theatre. My first viewing was at this cathedral back in 1968. Lots of cinemas of all shapes and sizes until VHS and, later, DVDs came along. It still shows up at a midnight screening from time to time. I do have that 2001 userbox but I don't have the Red Dwarf one so I will happily add that to my collection after I am done with this. Ha you've seen a lot of them though! Yeah I think it's a really good list for film buffs or people who are interested in finding great films to watch. Good thing is that it's going to get better all the time as I cover more and more so perhaps after a few years I'll be in a better place to really route out the gems of world cinema. I think I have pretty good taste in films. I don't always agree with the critics, I think some film critics just love to hate certain films because of the cast or plot or whatever and don't really give them a fair look, but generally the ones which are universally acclaimed do tend to be among the best and most of the critically acclaimed ones I agree with. Some are definitely overrated though. There's a few films which I need to watch again if not twice more. Films like Battleship Potemkin, Little Caesar, Top Hat, Lost Weekend, Best Years of Our Lives are some which immediately spring to mind. I saw The Departed again the other night and something twigged in my mind this time and I upgraded the film by two stars. The last half hour of Make Way for Tomorrow is incredibly charming and lovely to watch in particular. A) amount of time in an article does not give info some kind of special dispensation and b) the bulk of the info before the table was all manner of WP:OR and WP:SYNTH about the the money made and how that rates compared to other films. BTW that kind of info goes out of date so quickly that it is of little value. • Got ahead of myself. Yesterday thought I'd do a task on Wiki efficiently. First, scroll thru each of the Project Runway seasons and click on any judges with links then paste the category "Project Runway (U.S. series) judges" on their articles. Then once this was complete to add info on each judge's page. For Moss, her name came up twice so I clicked and pasted twice then... again a third time in the afternoon when I verified the PR judges page against all the judges listed on each season. Didn't question the 2nd click and paste, but the third one had me thinking I must not have been paying enough attention. Did not cross my mind to check if my work had been "undone." This morning when began second part of my task I found your "undo's" so found my sources and began a new edit. Got as far as typing just one of Moss's appearances on PR and hit "save" rather than "show preview" when I went for a coffee refill. So... now, may this meet your approval -- the info AND sources (with description) have been added and also links to the correct season as well as the category.
• When I began, thought I'd do a few click and paste, but have now learned that there have been over 200 judges with Wiki articles on the different Project Runway series and only 10 were categorized. Note this does not include the many judges who do not even have articles. Then there are the two PRAS mentors without articles -- one has been on 24 episodes and the other on 10 and starting another 10 next week...
• While I appreciate your passion and diligence ("undo" just 4 minutes after info posted) please do keep in mind that a carrot is much, much better than a stick. I can't help thinking, what could I have accomplished rather than writing this. Denise B-K (talk) 18:28, 24 October 2014 (UTC)Denisebk

You should understand @Denisebk: that I presented a carrot by giving you links to wiki-policies and instructions regarding categories rather than giving you any official warnings. I should also make you aware that the categories like the ones that you are creating have two further problems

1. per WP:CATDEF "A central concept used in categorising articles is that of the defining characteristics of a subject of the article" - being a judge on that show does not meet that criteria.
2. Many years ago it was decided by WP:CONSENSUS that there would be no categories for performers by the show they were in - ie William Peterson does not have the category "Actors in CSI" These Project Runway categories are very close to being the same sort of thing.

While I appreciate your passion for this show I can't help thinking that you could have accomplished something by reading the information at the links that I have provided to you. MarnetteD|Talk 19:42, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Santa Fe Opera

Greetings and thanks for your note.

I've added a note in the 1999 theatre section explaining that these 1968 facilities remain in place, since it was only the auditorium which was replaced and all facilities from the orchestra pit back still date from 1968. Also, tried to clarify that the B-lift remains in place today by expanding the 2nd theatre section a bit. If you still think this is unclear, please revise.

Do you know about the $35 million campaign to replace both backstage wings over 3 years to modernize all backstage facilities? $27 million has been raised already, and construction is underway!!
