Oscar Wilde's "nationality"

When Oscar lived, there was no legal citizenship (or nationality) as "Irish". There were British subjects of Irish ethnicity which can also be expressed as irish nationality. Nationality is an ambiguous word and the decision that it means ethnicity rather than legal citizenship is fairly arbitrary. I have never liked using it in these cases and we will upset the nationalists on one or other side whichever we use. Dabbler (talk) 23:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't suggesting changing it again, I was just commenting that including the nationality entry means that people will be coming along continuously deciding that one or other interpretation is an evil British/Irish attack on Oscar's citizenship or ethnicity. Dating style consistency

I have no quarrel with you changing the date style in the article on Roald Amundsen. I had gone through the article changing all the dates to the U.S. style. However, you did not change them all to the European system, only some. Any reason for this? Derek Jacobi

Hi. I reverted you. It is inappropriate to include such navboxes on actor articles (or director, etc). Doing so would result in dozens or even hundreds of navboxes on the articles. Hello. Unfortunately, these are not inappropriate and yes there are some pages here at wikipedia that have half a dozen of these or more. I don't like "the Master" nav box on DJ's page any more then I like this one as he only portrayed that character for the last five minutes of the Doctor Who episode that he was in. But the editor who created it went to a lot of work and that should be respected. The proper place to take your objections is Category:Wikipedia templates for deletion or go to the editor who created the nav box and state your objections to them. Zoë Wanamaker

Apologies, and am genuinely surprised. I checked five other UK "actresses" before my edit. I still read actress as, at best, a marker of gender respect and, at worst, a fact of common English usage. Please forgive my traditonal stance. If you strongly support this "rule", you (or perhaps some helpful suitable bot) will have quite a lot of consistency edits to do. Hollywood Walk of Fame

FYI: The Walk of Fame IS in fact an award. The first several hundred names on the Walk, including Chaney's, were placed there when the Walk was first opened in the 1960s. It was not until the 1980s that there was any aspect of cost passed along. Even now, the honor is not available for mere purchase. The only payment requirement is that _someone_ other than the Chamber of Commerce pay for the installation. The requirements for notability and honorable service to the community still stand, and in almost every case, the installation is paid for by fans, colleagues, or other supporters of the honoree. It is an honor bestowed upon someone, completely unavailable for mere purchase by the honoree. Hope this clarifies. Monkeyzpop (talk) 03:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I, Claudius Question

On IMDB they do not show 13 episodes, they show 12, "Family Affairs" does not exist for their purposes as they say they go by the original airing. I inquired about this and they were firm.

I do not possess the British DVDs, but in the new, 2008 remastered DVDs available in the US

there are 12 episodes, and in viewing #1, A Touch of Murder, there is no "2" indicated. At 46:50 it cuts to an aged Claudius in a hallway (a scene not on my old discs that breaks it down into two episodes) where he very briefly says "nine years passed...etc" and then it cuts right to the scene where Tiberius and Drusus are in the gym with the medicine ball. It does not flash "2" or "Family Affairs" on the screen. At the end, the credits are different--longer, a combined version of what we Americans have always thought of as #1 and #2. It is not a cut and paste job, for example on my old discs the ladies giving Julia and Antonia a rub-down are listed as "Masseuses," but appear under "Slaves" on the newer discs.

All of this leads me to believe that the original airing did not distinguish an episode called "Family Affairs" or flashed "2" on the screen. Because then they would have flashed "3" "For Waiting In The Wings" and they did not, at least on these new remastered DVDs. Waiting In The Wings is #2.

So are you quite sure "The episodes were not shown in one go. They were shown as seperate entities with a break in between the two. The 1 and the 2 were used at the start of the appropriate episode question"? and that "This showing had seperate opening and closing credits for both episodes."--Nyctc7 (talk) 09:34, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
