Could you take a look at the Isaac B Howe in my sandbox and see if I am getting close? No more family letters; only letters from governors, presidents etc,. I don't think any of my edits are being reverted anymore. I think the quoted letters are all backed up with the qualifications verified of the senders or recipients. Some sources are not taken from original sources; is it better to get the original book or is a quoted source ok.? How do you run a cite bot? How do I find the edits listed for the previous few months? I found it once but can't recall how.MarkWHowe (talk) 23:03, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a look at the draft within the next few days. I'll have to look into the citation bot, etc.; as for seeing the edit history, that is located here. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:43, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Regarding edit history, Yes, I discovered that and found another editor that added to the Galena page and we are now in communication. Little by little this is working out the way I hoped.
Re cite bot, I tried dragging it into an open page and not sure if it did anything or not. But maybe. Thanks again. MarkWHowe (talk) 14:02, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, been a bit busy and haven't had the chance yet – I'll make sure to look into it tomorrow. BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, thanks! I've been thinking I should do a small project first. John Bice Turner doesn't have an article and he certainly should. He has/had a town named after him; now West Chicago; I did some editing there. There are lots of John B Turners but only one Bice. MarkWHowe (talk) 14:04, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Taking a quick look at the sandbox, I notice that there's nothing of his life after 1870 (so, the final 10 years of his life). There will probably need to be some significant trimming and other cleanup (looks like it'd make a good book! :) Might be a bit too detailed for Wikipedia though...) – which I'll help with – but first do you think you could add a few details about the last years of his life? As for Turner, there appear to be some sources on him here that might be helpful. BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:52, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I don't know what happened to that final section but I do have it. It would be awesome if there were a way for you to go thru' and highlight areas that need work; like red for cut, yellow for needs heavy rework and green for minor editing.
Re Turner, your 'google' turned up some references I didn't get. The Pioneer Railroad is good, Yesterday and Today by Stennett is a basic reference on all C&NW details and statistics; very thorough. Is it possible to have more than one draft going at the same time in sandbox? I can't recall how I got started with IB Howe but I think you moved it to sandbox which means I must have started somewhere else. I recall in college many years ago studying organic chemistry and feeling like I knew it one day but the next day working forward the previous day was lost. Like a mole with the tunnel closing in behind. That's how I feel with Wikip. but little by little it gets easier.
One little annoying detail; I did a small edit on West Chicago [city] and cite #4 was done perfectly by the bot while I was editing but the fix disappeared when published. Thanks for everything! MarkWHowe (talk) 17:13, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if there's a way to red highlight, yellow highlight, etc. – but I can certainly go through by section and point out what needs to be changed, cut, etc. I'd prefer that you first add in the last details if possible so I can go through everything in one go, so let me know if that works. As for Turner, you can start as many sandboxes as you want, just type in the title (e.g. User:MarkWHowe/sandbox2), enter in text and hit 'publish changes'. I think I also fixed the reference you mention here. BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:41, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you!
I'v been on the road so tomorrow to catch up. MarkWHowe (talk) 03:36, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
