A tag has been placed on File:Boeing 737 MAX 10X rendering.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. sl (talk) 04:21, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's orphaned because you removed it from the page where it was shown, catch-22. You can address the fair use claim in File:Bombardier BRJ-X.jpg, but avoid spurious means.--Marc Lacoste (talk) 10:11, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Passport picture (GE)

[edit]

Hi Marc, how is File:General Electric Passport.jpg eligible for fair use? Thanks. BilCat (talk) 16:48, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, because there are no free substitutes yet? The possible alternative, File:EBACE 2019, Le Grand-Saconnex (EB190269).jpg, is captioned as an "engineering model", not a real engine. Besides, the promo picture gives a better understanding of the engine architecture (large fan in front of a small core for a high bypass) than a picture of a blower ahead of a black cylinder.--Marc Lacoste (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I don't know if the wonks or the lawyers will accept it, but it makes sense to me. BilCat (talk) 18:00, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting of changes in 747-400

[edit]

Please desist with reverting my changes. If you wish to make a change, then please do so. Please do not revert my changes and sourcing while saying that I "must" gain consensus per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BRD As mentioned in the first line, this is an optional method of gaining consensus, and not at all required. Please do not make me seek admin intervention. It seems you have been involved in a few incidents already. 100.14.84.144 (talk) 01:07, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) IP10o.xxx, your bold changes have been challenged. It's up to you to seek a consensus to add it back to the article, not edit war to keep it because you disagree with the remover's rationale. Yes, BRD is optional, but it's a good option when the alternative is that you'll be blocked and/or the the article will be protected to prevent your continued disruptions. You've been warned now, and will be reported if you restore it again. BilCat (talk) 01:51, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

737 Max

[edit]

Hi Marc. Thanks for this and I am sorry if I have been clueless there. Does your edit imply that other mile distances in the article should therefore come out? I think I can see quite a few others (at least 9 I believe), but I also don't think that as a clearly INexpert editor in the field I should be wading in too much! What do you think? Hope it's nice in Nantes today, cheers DBaK (talk) 13:06, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DBaK, don't be sorry, there is no need to know every intricacy of every field! I went ahead and removed the other statute miles figures to keep only the nautical miles. Nice here if a bit chilly, thanks!--Marc Lacoste (talk) 06:06, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thank you so much! Keep warm, (ah yes, a degree or two warmer than us here in London!) cheers, DBaK (talk) 09:03, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Both units abbreviated

[edit]

Bringing this here to not get the other discussion off topic.

You said “My preference would be both units abbreviated”.

WP:UNITS is very clear on this point:

In prose, unit names should be given in full if used only a few times, but symbols may be used when a unit (especially one with a long name) is used repeatedly, after spelling out the first use (e.g. Up to 15 kilograms of filler is used for a batch of 250 kg).
Where space is limited, such as in tables, infoboxes, parenthetical notes, and mathematical formulas, unit symbols are preferred.

So, granted, I probably went too far in the direction of using the unit names on every usage, but using unit symbols exclusively is not Wikipedia style. --RickyCourtney (talk) 13:36, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

RickyCourtney Indeed, using the full name first and abbreviations thereafter seems the most reasonable usage.--Marc Lacoste (talk) 13:41, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, to be clear, the guidelines state that the unit symbol should be used when usage is repeated. So the default should be to use the full unit name, except when they’d be used in quick succession. I’d say once within a section would be a good guideline, but once per page wouldn’t be correct. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 13:46, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:22, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Rolls-Royce ACCEL.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Rolls-Royce ACCEL.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vanilla Unmanned moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Vanilla Unmanned, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 13:28, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dassault Falcon 30

[edit]

Hi Marc, does fr:Dassault Falcon 30 have enough cited content to add to our Dassault Falcon 20 article? I don't know if it's worth trying to create a separate article for it on English Wikipedia. (I'm just asking for your opinion, and not asking you to do the work.) See Talk:Dassault Aviation#Falcon 30 for another users question about it. Looking into it, I realized we have very little info about it on English Wikipedia. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 00:33, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Skyworks VertiJet

[edit]

Hi Marc, do you think the Skyworks Vejetrti is the same thing as the GBA-DARPA Heliplane? Should we create a new article, or move the current article to Skyworks VertiJet? I could go either way, but I wanted your opinion first. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 17:13, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems to be the same aircraft: The VertiJet is an adaption of a combination of the British Rotodyne and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA-USA) Skyworks Heliplane, and Skyworks Aeronautics is formerly Groen Brothers Aviation. The article could be renamed but the redirect seems also OK as it is still a paper project. Cheers,--Marc Lacoste (talk) 21:21, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Aviation Capital Group

[edit]

Hello Marc Lacoste, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Aviation Capital Group, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aviation Capital Group.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|BuySomeApples}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
