Badges, not Crests

[edit]

Hello Makingwrongsright. Given your name, it would seem you would like to correct inaccuracies? Could I ask you to take a look at Heraldic badges of the Royal Air Force, and after you have, please do not upload imagery as crests, but as badges (EG - 100 Sqn badge.jpg). Thanks for listening and I wish you happy editing. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 12:43, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for you time and knowledge, I am just starting out as an editor on Wikipedia, and would be glad for any tips, tricks and input. I am struggling to get pictures uploaded at the moment (and keep the bots happy), including a few photos (not mine) but I know have no copyright limitations as they have been distributed for free use. Regards. Makingwrongsright (talk) 14:41, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Makingwrongsright. Okay, first off, welcome. When responding on talk pages, indent your comments with a colon (:), my response to you involves a double colon (::) so that it always makes it easier to read who has written what ( I have inserted 1 x colon into your first comment). Secondly, when uploading images, you must attribute who the copyright belongs to, but you must have the permission of the copyright holder to upload images in the first place. So if it is an MoD image with an OGL tag, then you must input who that copyright belongs to. If they are your images that you have taken, try loading them onto WikiCommons first and then copying them across, though the copyright threshold on Commons is higher than on Wikipedia. As a rule, we do not have ordinals in dates (see WP:DATES) ie - 1 August 2019, not 1st August 2019 and numbers less than ten are usually spelt out not written out as digits (IE - One, two, three, four etc, not 1,2,3,4).
See Help:Getting started for better tips. Welcome! The joy of all things (talk) 14:03, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:621 VGS Crest 2005-2018.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:621 VGS Crest 2005-2018.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All Rationales listed have been improved and updated Makingwrongsright (talk) 08:27, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Sedbergh wb922.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copying images from the Internet

[edit]

You cannot copy images you find on the Internet unless they are freely licensed. Most images find on the Internet are not freely licensed. There are exceptions for use of copyrighted images, but they must comply with non-free content guidelines and meet all the non-free content criteria. -- Whpq (talk) 13:39, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
