Belated Happy New Year with a Toast!
[edit]
Here's a toast to the host
Of those who edit wiki near and far,
To a friend we send a message, "keep the data up to par".
We drink to those who wrote a lot of prose,
And then they whacked a vandal several dozen blows.
A toast to the host of those who boast, the Wikipedians!

Cung Le's Wikipedia
[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cung_Le Hello, I'm leaving this message to seek assistance from you to see if there can be a protection to Cung Le's wikipedia page. It seems that random IP addresses continue to revert his page to change his Ethnicity and Nationality to strictly just Vietnamese. I have provided many sources that label him as either a Vietnamese-American or a South Vietnam-born American, meaning he is currently an American that happened to be born in South Vietnam. In the talk page, a Mod had stated that he is indeed in fact an American based on all the sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cung_Le Comment This is very clear, he was born in South Vietnam but all that does is make him "South Vietnamese born" place of birth does not equate to nationality (otherwise Australia would have a british prime minister); there is a source here that calls Le "South Vietnamese-born American" therefore unless someone can show with an equally reliable source he is a national of another country then we go with American. Any changes without such a source will be reverted in line with WP:BLP. Mtking (edits) 22:33, 27 December 2012 (UTC) However, he's already retired. Let me know what you can do or who I need to contact for further assistance in protecting his page.PinoyFilAmPride (talk) 23:44, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Possible Adminship
[edit]Hello! I am andrewrp, and I would like to get active editing Wikipedia again. Currently, as well as in the past, I have done article anti-vandalism work, as well as CFD's using NPwatcher. I have taken a brief hiatus from Wikipedia to work on other projects, but would like to start working again. In addition to my anti-vandalism, I would also like to get more involved on actually editing and improving articles, as I see this issue as a sort of weak point for me. My reasons for desiring administratorship are numerous. In my brief time I have been back here (though I occasionally monitored), there seems to be large backlogs in AIV, Speedy Deletion, as well as page protection. I have a pretty flexible schedule right now that would allow me to clear these backlogs when they become a problem. There also seems to be (not sure if this is the product of when I visit), a larger amount of vandalism then there was a while back. I realize I most likely am not ready for an administratorship yet. When I was getting started, I think I took my important position as a rollbacker and anti-vandalism watcher too lightly. I do feel, as well, I had not taken the time to thoroughly familiarize myself with various Wikipedia policies. As a result, I have gotten myself into various uncomfortable and very bad situations, which I feel could possibly jeopardize my candidacy. I would like to ask you if it would be possible to review my account and provide me with steps I may take as I return to editing that would help me not only become an administrator, but also help the Wikipedia community as a whole. Thank you, and all the best, Andrew AndrewrpTally-ho! 03:04, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Deletion review
[edit]I am the Marketing Director for iS3, and I am trying to repair our sullied reputation from many years ago. You deleted our company page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IS3 back in 2006 and I wanted to see how I could get it reactivated to publish legitimate content on.
The company changed management in late 2011 as a direct result of the mismanagement and malfeasance that brought you to your decision, and I cannot deny the sordid past this organization had. But since I came aboard in early 2012, we have taken great strides to move forward as a company.
Our STOPzilla brand now has several products that have been independently tested and certified. We are a Microsoft certified partner. All of our support and development is done in the United States. We are a legitimate company, and I would like the opportunity to display that and repair our brand on Wikipedia.

Disambiguation link notification for July 31
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Death of Hung Chung-chiu, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Ministry of National Defense and Foul play (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Tgvlogo2000.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Tgvlogo2000.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 04:52, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Please can you help with the local tv page
[edit]You have reversed the inline link I added to Mustard TV but there is no wiki article to link it to. So either all local tv stations listed on that page should have links removed (although they all are public service broadcasters) or none. Made in BC is inaccurate on that page too.
The arrival of Local TV in the UK is the biggest change in broadcasting for decades. Can I request that someone researches it properly and writes an article perhaps? Pkmornington (talk) 07:17, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Article restoration
[edit]Hello! Back in 2007, you were the closing admin for this AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Holy Knights
The band now satisfies criterion 5 of WP:MUSIC by virtue of releasing a second album via Scarlet Records [1]. Therefore, the articles for the band and their first album, A Gate Through the Past should now be restored. They were both very stubby, but I will expand them. Thank you! Hello, I wonder if you could advise? I'm the main editor of "Churches of Rome Wiki", and have added several hundred pages. Unfortunately, the original admin has not edited for at least five years and seems now to be permanently offline (this is a rumour), and the only other admin has not edited for at least 3 years (Nina-no). She has not replied to requests for contact. There are now problems with vandalism that are not easy for an ordinary editor to deal with easily, and also random variations in font size in the text have appeared as from yesterday Dec 4th. I suspect that I should apply to be an admin. What do you think?

Alter ego
[edit]Hello, I noticed a problem on the above page and created a thread on the talk page, however, nobody has picked-up this thread in several days, so I ask for your advice and assistance, please see here:
It seems there is no mention at all of the common usage in regards to the synergistic relationship between two people, but rather singular focus on the dual personality expressed by some people (individuals) either in an intrinsic (probably autonomous, unintentional) psychological (clinical) sense or in an extrinsic (deliberate or intentional) acting or dramatic sense.
Since different people from different cultural backgrounds or from different disciplines may interpret the meaning of "alter ego" differently, this could be seen by some as controversial. However, several dictionary definitions (including Wiktionary), do make these different interpretations clear.
My sense is that probably the page started out as an article on psychology, then others added-in the bits about alter-egos in drama and the performing arts ... which, IMHO, just muddies the waters.
I am inclined to think that this page should become a disambiguation page, with sub-pages (per my talk page comments) for each of the specific usages. There are, of course, other ways to handle this to make clear each of the possible usages and interpretations of alter ego.
However, to avoid initiating an edit war, perhaps an interdisciplinary team should review this page and recommend what actions should be taken to make this page more helpful to the uninitiated.
Enquire (talk) 21:53, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
The following copied from my (talk) page, to maintain the thread - Enquire (talk) 02:26, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- Usually other disciplines on a same given phrase may be given separate articles if they contain sufficient detail to become a standalone article. Otherwise, the other meanings (in this case, those outside of psychology) usually are moved to Wiktionary as they are merely definitions, and removed altogether from the article. - Mailer Diablo 16:57, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. Apologies for the late reply. - Mailer Diablo 16:57, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
From my perspective, as is, this article is misleading because it ignores a key interpretation of "alter ego". In common usage in many parts of the world, alter ego is usually understood to mean someone who is close to the first person, possibly their reliable confidant or someone who can stand in at any time for the first person. Within psychology, however, it is understood to refer to a personality disorder or, in the arts, a performer's theatrical persona.
However, I do agree that this article may have insufficient detail at this time. Also, we have both note that this article currently has a multiple issues tag. So, clearly work needs to be done. IMHO, this should include addressing the issue I raised here.
Like you, I have been editing on Wikipedia for about a decade, so I am well aware that unilateral edits of the nature I propose can lead to a nonconstructive edit war. I have no time or patience to indulge in such things.
I don't mind to help make that happen, but I would rather not edit the page unilaterally. Please note also that I have raised this issue in the alter ego talk page as a RFC, more than two weeks ago (2013-12-02) with no comment feedback at all. Surely there is a way to create some dialogue on how to proceed.
- Enquire (talk) 02:26, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- @Enquire: - Ah, I see what has happened here. It was listed on peer review instead of Article RfC. I have fixed it for you, hopefully the community will give some input. I have also dropped by a few noticeboards so they will come in to have a look. - Mailer Diablo 18:32, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

I am writing because of your involvement in the sockpuppet investigation into this user. Specifically, you are the last person to perform a CU in this case. Having used five new socks in the last six weeks or so for a total of twenty this year, the case has clearly gotten to a point where blocking is simply no longer effective. After asking User:Mark Arsten about it, he said that it might be possible it might be possible to range block the underlying IP address. Is this possible in this case? If not, are there other options available to deal with this user? Thanks in advance for your help. Sir Sputnik (talk) 04:14, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Your block
[edit]Hi there. On December 22 I noticed you blocked a user named "Wicks Steve". I'm not sure what his beef is with me, but today he reverted one of my edits to "Eagle River High School," and swore at me in his edit summary. Now he seems to be randomly reverting my recent edits (I think this is called Wikihounding). I've never had this happen, so I'm not quite sure how to deal with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:35, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- This all began on 7 December 2013, when Magnolia677, under his previous name Richard apple, posted a comment to my talk page expressing his disapproval of the placing of a tag on the "Wilcox Academy" article. He seemed put out at not having got his own way, and suggested I should have made the edit to resolve the tagging myself, so I explained the situation. However, after further thought, I later decided to edit the article fully, and to the best of my ability, and available research.
- I thought no more of it, until the revert to a minor edit to "Eagle River High School". The revert was so completely unnecessary, and I believed it to be the beginning of his Wikihounding of me. I can only apologise for allowing it to result in the insult, equally the random reverts were more of a knee jerk, defensive reaction, having said that, each of them has an appropriate edit summary. Wicks Steve (talk) 04:02, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- (To both parties) Okay, no one is Wikihounding each other. Let's assume good faith, and from this point on discuss the matters of disagreement on the article(s) talk page first (this applies to both parties). Seek consensus from other uninvolved editors as well before editing; no one wants to get into an edit war. - Mailer Diablo 04:09, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 04:39, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
Can you clarify the use of direct urls in the body of an article. Under what circumstances, if any, are they permitted, and does a list constitute an article, if so, are they permitted in lists? Wicks Steve (talk) 02:32, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- Direct links come in two forms. Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:Citing sources. The former has a separate section at the end of the article and is normally used for official sites. The latter is used to refer to (usually online) sources that you used in reference to the statement that was made on the article. There are many forms of referencing/sources and this article lists out the procedures in detail. - Mailer Diablo 05:51, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I am finding that article your referred to a little hard to read. Would you mind having a quick look at the recent revert to the article "List of high schools in Alaska" and confirm this use of direct urls is accepted, I have been given conflicting opinions. I noticed you deleted an article about Abraham Levy. I am wondering if this is about: Abraham Levy (1995–2012) (officially the Communal Rabbi and Spiritual Head of the Spanish & Portuguese Jews' Congregation, not the Haham)
I would like to make a page about him. If this is the same person, please let me know why it was deleted. If it is not, then I will go ahead and make the article. Thank you.

About the OTRS for Photographer in Taiwan
[edit]Hi my fello wikimedian, Thank you for the post on my talk page for the OTRS process, I asked my friend who told me the photographer of this photo would like release his art work. If you read the post under the photo, you may find out that the photo have been reviewed by Wikicommons admin but they suspect its flickrwashing, and the photographer has provided proofs underneath the post. What should I do? Thank you for letting me know the process. --shangkuanlc (talk) 10:21, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply, I am contacting the photographer, hope the end result may be good. --shangkuanlc (talk) 06:25, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
My talk page
[edit]Hello, Mailer diablo. Was it necessary to remove that bit from my talk page and to have it WP:Revision deleted or WP:Oversighted? I rather like to keep that kind of detail in my talk page record. Same goes for the talk page history of the article. I mean easily accessible, of course, not simply accessible by WP:Administrators. Thanks for writing Singapore Portrait Series currency notes! I nominated it for GA and the ongoing review will probably be placed on hold. Although I will do my best to address the concerns, you are invited to help out, so your work would receive greater recognition! --Hildanknight (talk) 14:39, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
- I have managed to address all concerns and the article is now a GA! Congratulations! --Hildanknight (talk) 07:05, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
- Congratulations! - Mailer Diablo 03:40, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 10
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Rapid Penang, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dong Feng. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I started a GA review of this page back in September. user:Hildanknight said you were the primary contributor and I should notify you. CorporateM (Talk) 16:01, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank You.
[edit]Thank you for the work you did on the sock puppet accusation against me.
I let my temper get to me a little bit, but only because I KNEW I was innocent, and just wanted to put this behind me.
So again, thanks for your work...I knew it had to be a chore.

Award 4 U
[edit]awarded to Mailer diablo for running CheckUser, proving I was innocent of being the sock puppet I was accused of being
That was a lot of work, and I'm indebted to you for doing it. Name the return favor, and it's yours

- No worries. It is part of my duty rather than any form of favour; any other CU would have cleared you anyway. I do hope you will remain calm in face of any future conflict, understanding that there are avenues for resolution. - Mailer Diablo 06:52, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Should we remove bus fleet info on bus pages?
[edit]Hi, as you can see on SMRT Buses and SBS Transit, a user Timothyhouse1 has decided to remove bus fleet info. His talk page, according to Charles, he could get banned. I just want to know if: 1. his changes should be reverted 2. he could get banned. Thanks Funkyspyspy (talk) 15:59, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Sorry let me rephrase that, should we display bus fleet information on bus pages such as SBS Transit and SMRT Buses? Anyway, looking at Timothy's talk page, he doesn't seem to respond to queries though :\. I have put up a talk with him on his talk page, hopefully he responds.Funkyspyspy (talk) 06:13, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
