Maile66, thank you for taking the time to review List of plantations in West Virginia. Please feel free to make any edits you see fit, or let me know if you have any questions! Thanks again! -- Caponer (talk) 14:48, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Maile66, thank you so incredibly much for taking the time from your schedule to conduct such a thorough review. I've addressed the citation issue on the article's DYK nomination page. Please let me know if the internal citation provided will suffice. Please, if you can think of a better hook, please feel free to suggest one--I'm definitely open to suggestions! -- Caponer (talk) 17:05, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
DYK non self noms
Hi, I believe that the discussion here isn't really working. What I think we should do is post a summary of what we want to do in a new thread, so that we get the page watchers' attention, then initiate a RFC regarding the doing, or not doing, of QPQs for non self noms. What do you think? Best, Matty.007 18:50, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Featured topic rules
Just so you know, A-class doesn't "count" for good or featured topic purposes. The list of awards must pass through FLC before you can take the topic to FTC. (I think you might have already known this, but wanted to make sure so you didn't get surprised later.) Courcelles 00:25, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- I did not know this. Someone told me a few months ago that they do, which is where I came up with this idea. For more confusion on this filmography, I refer you back to the most recent edition to WT GA. Anyway, I guess I have to get that A-class elevated to something else. — Maile (talk) 00:35, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm afraid someone gave you bad information, the topic criteria aren't as explicit as they could be, but only GA, FA, or FL articles count for topics. (most A-class articles tend to also be GA's; as A-class is awarded by individual wikiprojects, while the GA/FA/FL designations are encyclopaedia-wide.) Really, though, Mil-hist does a very good job with their A-class reviews; anything they pass should be able to go to FLC without significant problems. Your topic idea is, in my opinion, a good one; just that the awards needs a run through FLC first. Courcelles 01:12, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- The honors and awards article is also now listed at FLC. — Maile (talk) 01:24, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Courcelles, please give me some advice about how to back out of the current FLC situation. #1 and #2 I'm not getting any guidance from anyone on how to proceed here, and I could sure use some. Between the conflicting opinions on the GA nomination and this, it's turned into a nightmare that makes me wish I'd never been involved in any of it. I realize this is the nature of Wikipedia, but please advise. — Maile (talk) 13:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

- THe cleanest solution would be to go to Wikipedia talk:Featured list candidates and withdraw Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Audie Murphy filmography/archive1. Let Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Audie Murphy honors and awards/archive1 play out like normal -- I'm happy to keep an eye on it if you're just sick of it all. Then see Talk:Audie Murphy filmography/GA1 though as normal, I think consensus is split enough to let that go through as a GAN. Courcelles 16:01, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have put a request on the FLC filmography to be withdrawn. I would very much appreciate your keeping an eye on the FLC honors and awards. I am a little dizzy from this process, but I also feel rather out of my depth to be dealing with FLC. So, your help is appreciated there. The GA might actually make it. If so, I can take it to DYK, which was one of the original goals I had on the GA of that. Thank you for your quick reply here. — Maile (talk) 16:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Audie
I've created Military career of Audie Murphy, can you add a bit to the lead and add the books in the bibliography? Sometime next week I'll condense in the main article and reintroduce part of the film career. If you can hold off on nomming and allow a few weeks for improvements to be made I think we can get it there, but Eric and I are concentrating on Enid Blyton which takes priority at the moment.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:48, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

- Dr. Blofeld, are you aware of Audie Murphy honors and awards that is currently at FLC? Because half of that page involves civilian awards, I think we need to leave it as is. Or suggest something else if you think it's better, but that one is in the middle of a review. — Maile (talk) 22:45, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Murphy
You do realize that stating year periods in film careers is perfectly acceptable? See articles like Ralph Richardson which is headed towards FAC. I agree that the current length in his film career is short enough to not structure it but keep it in mind for future reference. I can see that you place more value on the input of Sandy and Eric even though I also have a lot of experience. Usually it is better to structure by film studio, something like Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1952-58 etc in which actors were contracted to rather than decades though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:25, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

First, thanks for nudging me toward creating my first page! Now, How do we legally upload either of the following?
The names are assigned by me. The first had to have been taken by an Army photographer or by a war correspondent; I think the former more likely. The second just looks like an official photo, but I can't prove it. No dates. No credit. I prefer the second because it's Conner alone, but the other would serve.

Moonlight Tower NRHP in Austin
I cannot find a naming convention article about this particular situation. Have you seen something? Thanks Nv8200p talk 23:59, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well...yes, I've seen something out there. But where that is right now...finding anything in WP can be difficult. What I was specifically referring to is that the article title should not say "in Austin, Texas". And I've had a number of articles moved on me to have an idea about that. The location should be in parenthesis, such as: Zion Lutheran Church (Fredericksburg, Texas), Buckhorn Saloon & Museum (San Antonio), something of that nature. If you don't move it, some eager-beaver out there probably will. But better to have it moved by someone like yourself who is mindful of the NRHP list.— Maile (talk) 00:20, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
Cameron County Courthouse (1914)
From the article, Built between 1912 and 1914 by Gross Construction Company. If the article is wrong, it needs to be changed. Also be aware that NRHP dates are commonly the design date and not the completed date. Also at least one of the references clearly says the building was designed in 1912. So do we think the building was designed and constructed in a single year? Vegaswikian (talk) 17:29, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I don't know. How about if we just change the article title to "Old Cameron Courthouse"? I don't think the article should have a date in its title. What do you think? — Maile (talk) 17:33, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Hooky
Sorry I have been away for so long, but I have been mostly gnoming at WP:RfD. Another editor who has chased me now for nine years, chases me when I do translation, chases other editors, and kinda disagrees by default if I say keep he will say delete, if I say delete he will say keep, he is chasing me there and other editors, he follows and tracks and stalks me. Not a bad man but why can't he get on with his own gnoming, seems to spend more time harrassing other editors – and I do regard it as harrassment and told him not to talk on my page or I will take it to ANI, so instead he interrupts every discussion on WP:RfD with his ill-informed and ill-researched opinions. He said sarcastically (I assume) said "Si Trew is always right". Now I know I am not always right, I am quite aware of that, that is why it is called Redirects for discussion.
I can't remember and can't find, that either you or someone else said you like my hooks cos they are very "hooky" and since I usually pack the maximum number of words into the minimum amount of thought I regarded that as a great compliment (it was for Josiah Marshall Heath). I don't spend all my life on Wikipedia, and even less at RfD, but if I am being chased, which I am and he has done it for nine years now, then I go and improve the encyclopaedia somewhere else. I thought we were in the business of making the encyclopaedia better, not hounding other editors? There are fewer than most readers probably realise. Si Trew (talk) 10:46, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
We had one DYK on something I forget what it was but an American chaplain of the 18th century and I contrived all the hooks so that being married was "tieing men and women together in bondage acts" and so on, it was close to Hallowe'en so as usual it was a deliberately scary hook completely factual of course but deliberately misleading (a double entendre). The proposer of the DYK I think it was his first proposal and he was happy to lay it by for Hallowe'en: I hope it got there. Si Trew (talk) 11:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
- This really has nothing to do with me. — Maile (talk) 16:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
rm stub for DYK?
Hi. I'm mystified by your edit and its summary at Talk:Core Infrastructure Initiative. Are you saying that a DYK candidate should not be classified as a stub? I don't see how leaving it unassessed is an improvement - perhaps it should be raised to "start"? RockMagnetist (talk) 21:18, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
- WP DYK Reviewing guide
In addition to at least 1,500 characters of readable prose, the article must not be a stub. This requires a judgement call, since there is no mechanical stub definition (see the Croughton-London rule). If an article is, in fact, a stub, you should temporarily reject the nomination; if the article is not a stub, ensure that it is correctly marked as a non-stub, by removing any stub template(s) in the article, and changing any talk-page assessments to start-class or higher.
— Maile (talk) 21:28, 13 May 2014 (UTC)- Ah, so it should be assessed as start. RockMagnetist (talk) 21:36, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
- No assessment at all also works with DYK. Just not a stub. — Maile (talk) 21:47, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Complete review needed per DYKReviewing guide. "Everything checked." tells us absolutely nothing. Full details are needed before this can be promoted again
. The reviewing guide is nothing more than the reviewing guide. I have no idea what you are talking about. — Maile (talk) 12:42, 4 June 2014 (UTC)- "Complete review needed per DYKReviewing guide."
- According to this page, and the review, that's been done.
- "Everything checked." tells us absolutely nothing"
- I'd say it tells you absolutely everything.
- But the actual problem here is that if the user goes to that page trying to figure out what you're saying, there is nothing on that page that clarifies it. I know what you're trying to say, but that's not actually on that page. You're asking the reviewer to provide extra clarity, so perhaps you can do the same? Hawaii
Is your username Hawaiian? I wrote a bit on Ford_Island#Ancient_Hawaiians about the use of a Maile during a Hawaiian ritual. If you are Hawaiian, and based in Hawaii, I just wanted to give you a heads up that we're planning an edit-a-thon in November.--v/r - TP 18:47, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. — Maile (talk) 18:59, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Please stop
Do not change my posts. If you wish to add additional information to assist in fixing the appalling state of affairs at DYK, write your own posts. It's beyond a joke now. I'm spending more time fixing DYK errors and removing crappy DYK hooks from the main page than I am writing decent articles for the mainspace. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:59, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the recognition, Maille.... have you not heard that its "beyond a joke" and thats almost official. There are too few smiles. It would appear from the above that the summary executions and blowdryer rants will continue until someone gets the attention they think they deserve and morale improves.... it just "keeps on giving" Still its good to see the provisional wing have claimed responsibility for all the mistakes. I'm available once they stop shooting goldfish and work out what's important or go off to criticise some other innocent volunteers. Victuallers (talk) 12:33, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Victuallers, I have noticed some others who have just absented themselves from the fracas of late. Just goes to show you, not all the bitching and moaning and gnashing of teeth is on the DukeofWales talk page. Any valid points made about cross-checking are lost amongst the holier-than-thou sarcasm that keeps on giving, and the other type. Complainers of the past seem like rank amateurs in comparison. And as has been noted previously, there are those who dig in and help without thanks, and there are those who see their job to sit back and criticize what everyone else does without actually doing the same work themselves. Hells-Bells, we aren't on their payroll. — Maile (talk) 12:54, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- No, you're not on anyone's payroll, but DYK is consuming other people's resources with the vast array of errors that are being regularly sanctioned and even published on the main page. Some of us are doing other things too, like writing GAs or FLs or whatever, continually addressing DYK WP:ERRORS reports takes up more and more valuable time of others. Five hooks yesterday alone? Not good enough. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:11, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Looks like you have got a detention. Oops. Why does no one turn up for these classes in how to operate DYK properly? Its as if no one is listening. When this project is finished then we can look back at all those who assisted, amused and inspired others. Victuallers (talk) 13:31, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- You'd do better to fix the garbage that spews onto the mainpage every day from DYK than provide the amusement around here. Or perhaps you'd prefer to see DYK cancelled altogether. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:46, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps some sort of DYK mentoring/teaching scheme? Thanks, Matty.007 16:44, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps, not a bad idea to at least give those scrambling for QPQ reviews an idea what to look out for. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:14, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Please help with this DYK review
This is my first DYK review. According to guidance a first-review needs the support of more senior reviewers. Please help me with the review of Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Quaid-e-Azam_tourist_lodge,_Barsala.
- I am concerned that page citations are almost all tourism related. (possible spam violation)
- I am also concerned that the subject notability is very weak and not well substantiated.
Can you take a look at it please? Kyle(talk) 15:47, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
- I see you already resolved this. The subject matter is a little out of my knowledge base. — Maile (talk) 16:50, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Credo
Hey Maile, if you still want to give back your Credo access, could you please fill out this short form? Thanks, Nikkimaria (talk) 23:03, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- There's a problem with this, not the least of which is that it happened almost 2 years ago. As far as I remember, I filled out a form to let someone else have that account. Another editor had asked me. But who that was, I have no idea. And a lot has happened since 2012, so I have no idea about this. Are you saying the account is still in my name? — Maile (talk) 23:28, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- Nikkimaria, here's my talk page thread about it. It was Dr. Blofeld who requested I give it to Nvvchar, and Ocaasi who was going to take care of it. — Maile (talk) 23:35, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- Well, at this point we do have more accounts, so if Nvvchar still wants one that should be doable without a give-back. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:42, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
- OK, then. I filled out your form above for you. — Maile (talk) 23:53, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Nvvchar isn't active now. I don't think I'd need access to it. I don't know if User:Aymatth2 or anybody else can access to it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:20, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Are you the one who added the "Quarterly" reference about Gay Hill? If so, please look at the DYK nomination. I'd like to make sure he wanted Gay Hill to be the capital of Texas, for the hook. Please reply there or on my talkpage. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 03:45, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Editor of the Week
Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for extensive work at DYK. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Matty.007 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I nominate Maile66 as Editor of the Week for her incredible work on article promotion. She has helped 73 articles be featured in the 'Did you know' section of the main page; no mean feat (especially presently). She often contributes helpful comments on the DYK talk page, helping with ideas and new editors to the process, but doesn't let her standard of quality drop. She has helped get Audie Murphy and Audie Murphy honors and awards to featured status and she even managed to get a DYK out of the topic. Her 40,000 edits over 7-and-a-half years receive too little appreciation for their scale. She is truly a great editor. In all, thousands of gnomish and not-so-gnomish edits have massively benefited not only DYK, but also other areas such as the hugely important Murphy articles. Sublime.
You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

- WikiGnoming is one of the most satisfying tasks on Wikipedia, IMO. I feel humbled, considering Matty.007 is one of those "endangered species" of good editors who should be retained, and is currently undecided on whether to stay or go. But kudos to this project. We need more and more efforts to retain editors. Thanks for this acknowledgement. — Maile (talk) 14:01, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't check the talk page -- nor was there any indication on the article in hidden text advising editors to do so. I personally disagree as Murphy was a US citizen and I believe mm/dd/yyyy format should be used, but if this is the consensus, so be it. I wasn't ignoring your talk page discussion -- I was unaware of it. Yours, Quis separabit? 13:17, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- You can disagree, but the DMY format was approved in various stages of numerous reviews. As for the other, please do not do rewrites of an FA article. — Maile (talk) 13:18, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- I acknowledge that. I haven't had cause to edit the Murphy article in a long long time so I was unaware. Quis separabit? 17:55, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

gnomish guidance
Thank you for quality articles such as Sängerfest, for welcoming and guidance, for gnomish service, for example with maps, for helping others in the DYK process, for responding with "swiftness and thoughtfulness", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Stephen Moore
I saw that you used Stephen Moore's 18 Minutes.. in Runaway Scrape. Do you have any written notes from that book? It's on my list to read, and I don't want to duplicate your efforts. Karanacs (talk) 22:26, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Aaaaahhhhhh! I tossed out all my notes about a week ago, thinking I wouldn't need them again. Sorry! — Maile (talk) 23:57, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Karanacs, even though I don't have my notes, I can tell you something really good about Moore's book. He has a few pages throughout that are a list of the chain of command from top to bottom on given dates, including how many men were under each group commander. I'm trying to remember the pages. I know he had a page of the chain of command on March 13, and who was under who and how many men were involved. Based on where I put the note in the article, I think the March 13 list of chain of command is on Page 51. Based on how I notated the article, I believe the two pages listing the chain of command at Lynchburg/San Jacinto are pages 295-296. I believe I remember a couple of other lists of chain of commands in there, probably what Houston had at Groce's landing, but I'm not sure of the page. Maybe there's even another one of another date. They'll be real easy to find if you get the book - just fan the pages, and those lists visually stand out. Based on those pages, there's no doubt Houston was in charge of all the men. I seem to remember somewhere that while the provisional government only put him in charge of the paid army, somewhere along the line he was also made commander in chief of the volunteers. — Maile (talk) 01:28, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I would also mention that I think I had a large type edition of Moore's book, which might make a difference in the page numbers. I don't know if there is another version, I got what my library had. — Maile (talk) 13:05, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- After March 11, Houston was in charge of everything - the Convention did not duplicate the mistake made by the Consultation. I stopped reading in all of my books after the Alamo (mainly because I had too much info to distill and didn't want to overwhelm myself). I'm headed to the library tonight :) Karanacs (talk) 14:43, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
If you're wondering why the A-class review hasn't closed yet, we've done the manual part ("A-class=fail") ... the bot that closes it usually works quickly. Not sure what's going on, give it a few days. Good to see you at A-class again, btw. - Dank (push to talk) 01:50, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
