Appreciable work Nagric (talk) 02:32, 25 November 2015 (UTC) |
- Thanks Nagric.
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)- Hi, Mahensingha,
- I'm not familiar enough with Indian topics to know whether this block was justified or not. Maybe you're basically right, but handling it the wrong way? Maybe you're 100% right, and it's so obvious to someone who knows the topic that you shouldn't have been blocked? Maybe you're wrong on this one? But I noticed you just put up a {{retired}} banner, so I thought I'd at least say I appreciate the work you do here, and I appreciate the guts it took to volunteer for ArbCom, and I don't think you should retire. If you agree not to edit the Meena article or its talk page, or interact with the other editor for the duration of the block, I think JamesBWatson would probably be willing to unblock so you can deal with any ArbCom-related issues. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:13, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Don't retire. I will take a look at what has been going on some time tomorrow, medication permitting. You and I both know that articles such as Meena are subject to a lot of very inappropriate (in the Wikipedia sense) POV pushing. I'm in a dopey state and cannot really comment further at the moment but please do note my first sentence. Whatever has gone on, it is fixable. - Sitush (talk) 00:18, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- Having thought again about the circumstances which led to the block, and having read comments relating to it from other editors, I have decided that, in view of the fact that you had not been blocked before, a block for a week was not necessary, so I have reduced it to three days. However, if you return to editing please do bear in mind the considerations that led to the block, and try to avoid making the same mistakes again. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk)
- I have no doubt or question on the Administrative decision taken against me. Respecting the decision of blocking admin I did not even appeal for unblock. But there is something troubling me and that is what shall I do even if I am unblocked. How will I deal with when articles are still being made ill-informative, blanking of well sourced contents and addition of unsourced OR etc. I am thankful to Floquenbeam, Sitush and JamesBWatson for recognition of my contributions and the sympathy shown towards me. I wish and hope Sitush to get well very soon and I request you all to please help resuming my job. Thanks a lot for morale support.--MahenSingha (Talk) 21:30, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Mahensingha, I'm not quite sure what your message on my talk page was for - the article had been correctly tagged with a PROD as it is a BLP with no references, but the PROD-ing editor had not marked it as patrolled, so that is all I did. Also, don't forget to sign your messages on talk pages, thanks! Melcous (talk) 17:04, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
- Dear Melcous, It is perhaps due to the fact that you reviewed the article previously. My intention was not to point that out but to justify the PROD tagging. I am sorry for the inconvenience.--MahenSingha (Talk) 17:15, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
- No worries! We were both trying to do the same thing, just not quite understanding each other :) Cheers Melcous (talk) 17:17, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
why this
User talk:Prajput27 -- why did you give this user a warning about genre changes? You may want to remove your message. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 17:03, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Mentioned in the warning itself, He removed well sourced info from the page Lodhi and added unsourced contents as per his own OR which are nothing but the caste promotional contents. I just suggested him to add only sourced information and can remove the sourced contents only after obtaining consensus over the issue of doing so. However, I would like to know that in what manner you found these edits(1, 2,3, 4, 5) justified. If I am convinced that it was OK, then I will certainly withdraw. Please suggest --MahenSingha (Talk) 19:17, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Do you know what a "genre" is? — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 20:19, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Making any change that distorts original structure is so called change in genre (my interpretation, may not be so right). It was the twinkle generated message. I removed it. Is that OK now and to avoid this in future, I will preview what message the twinkle is going to produce before finalizing. Thanks for direction,--MahenSingha (Talk) 20:35, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- That was my point, you accidentally used the wrong warning message. "Genre" refers to music and film genres; there's a specific warning message created for that because too many editors go into album and movie articles to change their genres according to their own interpretation, not what sources say. That's what that warning is for. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 20:40, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks once again.--MahenSingha (Talk) 20:44, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...
Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.
After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.
We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.
The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.
If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2016: Game On!
We are about to enter the second week of the 2016 WikiCup. The most recent player to sign up brings the current total to 101 contestants. Signups close on 5 February. If you’re interested, you can join this year's WikiCup here.
We are aware that in some areas the scoring bot’s numbers are a little bit off (i.e., overly generous) and are working to have that corrected as soon as possible.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:04, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Edit in the subject Sardari of Mukherjees
PK Mukherjee (talk) 13:22, 14 January 2016 (UTC) I am PK Mukherjee & I noticed that you edited a historical fact "Sardari of Mukherjees" for ref I posted a magazine's ref 1. "Probasi" a Bengali magazine 1918" 2. "Wild Life Camp magazine"Dated 24th November, 1969, & "Settlement of Dholpur" 1898, I think these are enough evidence, Mr MahensinghaPK Mukherjee (talk) 13:22, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
- Dear PK Mukherjee, Caste or community promotional magazines/books/sites are not reliable sources. The reference shall be from an established academic source. I suggest you to please go through the various editing policies specially WP:RS on wikipedia before editing. Your sources must be verifiable, failing which the contents often face problem with other editors. Discussion with other editors and reaching to a consensus over the contents is another better way to make the contents stay on wikipedia. The article shall not be edited in impression of any caste/community/region/religion etc., instead it shall be written from neutral point of view (WP:NPOV). Wish you happy editing.--SMahenS (Talk) 17:50, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
- Dear SMahenS, I am an Ex Army as well as a History lover, I don't wish to launch any cast or community, above mention magazine or books don't belongs to any particular cast or community. I am related with this said great family, so I have a lot of photograph & books as evidence, now these sources is in bad condition, so it is my responsibility to update the Dholpur History, some historian also wrote about this family, wiki using their other books as ref, by the way your instruction will be help me, but it would be more better if you inform me before your edit. Jai Hind — Preceding unsigned comment added by PK Mukherjee (talk • contribs) 05:14, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Nice to know about you and your interest. Still I suggest that apart from above-mentioned sourcing policies and neutral point of view, also go through WP:COI. Actually the purpose of wikipedia is different. It is open so if not only me, anybody is free to edit the contents and violation of policies still remains objectionable. Simply editing does not serve the purpose, you shall also ensure permanency of the contents. Jai Hind.--SMahenS (Talk) 10:33, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

7 more days to create or expand articles
Hello, thanks a lot for participating in Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon. We understand that perhaps 7 days (i.e. 25 January to 31 January) were not sufficient to write on a topic like this, and/or you may need some more time to create/improve articles, so let's extend this event for a few more days. The edit-a-thon will continue till 10 February 2016 and that means you have got 7 more days to create or expand articles (or imprpove the articles you have already created or expanded).
- Rules
The rules remain unchanged. Please report your created or expanded articles.
- Joining now
Editors, who have not joined this edit-a-thon, may also join now.
- Reviewing articles
Reviewing of all articles should be done before the end of this month (i.e. February 2016). We'll keep you informed. You may also check the event page for more details.
- Prizes/Awards
A special barnstar will be given to all the participants who will create or expand articles during this edit-a-thon. The editors, who will perform exceptionally well, may be given an Indic Geographical Indication product or object. However, please note, nothing other than the barnstar has been finalized or guaranteed. We'll keep you informed.
- Questions?
Feel free to ask question(s) here. -- User:Titodutta (talk) sent using MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:08, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Cwmhiraeth (submissions). 2016 GA Cup-Round 2
Greetings, GA Cup competitors! Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Sainsf took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 765. In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 742 points, and in third place, FunkMonk received 610 points. In Round 1, 206 reviews were completed, more than any other year! At the beginning of March, there were 595 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 490. We continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible. To qualify for the second round, you needed to make it into the top 16 of participants. Users were placed in 4 random pools of 4. To qualify for Round 3, the top 2 in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 9th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on April 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on April 28 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here Also, remember that a major rule change will go into effect starting on April 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 had an issue brought up in the rules, which we are correcting with this clarification. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: All reviews must give the nominator (or anyone else willing to improve the article) time to address the issues at hand, even if the article would qualify for what is usually called a "quick fail" in GA terms. To avoid further confusion, we have updated the scoring page, replacing the term "quick fail" with the term "fail without granting time for improvements". We expect all reviewers to put a review on hold for seven days in cases such as these as well, in order to apply the same standards to every competitor. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule. Good luck and have fun! Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

About the page Aphariyas
Sir, you wrote that Aphariyas/Affariyas of Rewari are from the Jadaun clan (you gave the reference of Rajputana Gazetteers). But Aphariya/Affariya is clan of Ahirs. Jadaun and Ahir are 2 different communities. Jadaun is also a clan of Ahirs. So, Aphariyas are different from the Jadauns, because they are 2 different clans of Ahirs. I am from the Affariya clan (from the village Kheda Dabar, in Delhi) and its a clan of Yaduvanshi Ahirs. Rulers of Rewari (Rao Nand Ram, Rao Balkishan, Rao Ruda Singh, Rao Tula Ram, etc.) were from the same clan (Aphariya) and they were well known Ahirs. So, please remove the statement from the page where it is claimed that Affariyas of Rewari belong to Jadaun clan, because these 2 are different clans.RishabhFOREVER (talk) 10:17, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

DRN help needed and volunteer roll call
You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.
First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.
Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.

2016 GA Cup-Round 3
Hello, GA Cup competitors! Thursday saw the end of Round 2. Sainsf once again took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 996 (a higher score then he received in Round 1!). In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 541 points, and in third place, Carbrera received 419 points. In Round 2, 142 reviews were completed! At the beginning of April, there were 486 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 384. Another demonstrable way in which this competition has made a difference is in the length of time articles languish in the queue. At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 9 months [1]; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased significantly, to a little over 5 months.[2] It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep lowering the backlog as much as possible. To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. We had an unusual occurrence happen in Round 2: because only one contestant submitted reviews in one pool, we selected the contestant with the next highest score to move forward to Round 3. (There will be a rule change for future competitions in case something like this happens again.) For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 will start on May 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on May 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.
