Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Maggi.reiss. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 21:10, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Edits to Steven Reiss's Page

[edit]

I received both your notices about the changes made to the section Personal Life and the details about Peter Boltersdorf's inclusion on the page. I'm going to address each one:

Personal Life: I do not have a conflict of interest simply because I am Steven's widow. It is a FACT that he has two sons, Michael and Benjamin, and it is also a FACT that he has two grandsons, Caleb and James, which he loved very much and who deserve to be listed on their grandfather's page. I even cited his obituary from the Columbus Dispatch which lists the names of his children and grandchildren. You have now removed the section Personal Life entirely! Why is that?? There was nothing in there that was not factual.

Peter Boltersdorf: I did not defame or post anything negative about Peter, I was only trying to explain the situation to the editor. My husband terminated Peter's license to use the RMP and Steven himself was going to edit his own page and remove him. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was unable to do so. Not to mention that the part about Matthias Steiner being a client of Peter's is also incorrect. Matthias was coached by Frank Mantek, NOT Peter Boltersdorf: https://footballmentaltoughness.wordpress.com/category/olympics/

This is directly from Wikipedia: "Encyclopedic content must be VERIFIABLE." Everything I have stated above is verifiable and factual, with references to articles and obituaries.

Looking forward to your response,

Maggi Reiss

I am sorry for your loss. I need to say that you do have a conflict of interest, not simply because you are Steven's widow, but because you seem to be involved with legal affairs related to him. Please review WP:COI carefully. You should avoid directly making edits to the article, but you are permitted and welcome to make formal edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page, Talk:Steven Reiss, detailing changes you feel are needed.
Articles do not contain information simply because it is correct. The article(not just a mere "page") is not a place to honor Steven's family members or list them, since it is not social media. A Wikipedia article summarizes what independent reliable sources state about a subject. A obituary is typically written by family and as such is not an independent source.
I don't see where anyone said you defamed someone. You said here that you removed content for legal reasons; if a legal reason requires Wikipedia to display or not display certain content, you need to communicate with the Wikimedia Foundation itself as I described, as they handle any legal requirements that Wikipedia may be required to comply with. 331dot (talk) 15:33, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
