Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook NJ has been erased and correct information has been entered. Facebook users are directed towards Sandy Hook, NJ, when the correct information is Sandy Hook, CT— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thrash4u (talkcontribs)

  • @Thrash4U, you surely must realize that there is a disambiguation link at the top of the page to show that the Sandy Hook shooting is a different article. In addition, Facebook redirects are not, anywhere in Wikipedia policy, a reason to completely change a page.155blue (talk) 02:15, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Then how about you explain to me how to change it with a correct redirect, since there is absolutely no way to do it? The shooting has absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject, and is not even relevant to the situation. Lets try to stay on topic and not detract from the conversation at hand.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thrash4u (talkcontribs)

  • The disambiguation page has a link to Sandy Hook, Connecticut. The Sandy Hook page has a link to said disambiguation page. What, for example, would happen if we tried to use your idea with Washington Township? Just because it is most relevant to your area does not mean it is relevant to the entire world (as with the many Washington Townships). Sandy Hook, NJ is the most well-known Sandy Hook out there and thus, the article Sandy Hook is about Sandy Hook, NJ. This is also why it is not about Sandy Hook, CT.155blue (talk) 02:15, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I disagree with you greatly on the relevance and "well known" city of Sandy Hook CT, Unless you have lived under a rock for the past 7 months, Sandy Hook, CT is the epicenter of historical significance around the entire GLOBE. It is entirely relevant in this day and age, and is undeniably 600% more well known than a city in New Jersey. No offence to people who live in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, but when people think of Sandy Hook, they automatically think of Sandy Hook Connecticut.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thrash4u (talkcontribs)

  • Let's not be biased toward more recent events as per WP:RECENT. Sandy Hook, NJ has been known for many years all across the Eastern Seaboard. Besides being the northernmost point on the Jersey Shore, it also has a rich history that spans countless years. This history far surpasses the ten-year test (WP:10YT). This, like the Amish school shooting, may not be as remembered as the legacy of a long-standing series of military bases and a beach. Also, you went against consensus to change a page's entire contents. The School Shooting has its own page, as does the village within Newtown. The changing of the entire page's contents rapidly and drastically is against Wikipedia policy and, though made in good faith, could be considered edit warring. 155blue(talk) 13:46, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Biased? Again I completely disagree, and you sir are wrong. COMPLETELY wrong in your opinions which are self based. Try looking outside your own world and personal bubble. Maybe reading a newspaper or two on a regular basis. I am not going to argue any longer with you, as obviously your misinformation, and you OWN BIAS has completely enveloped your thinking process. Have a good day, pal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thrash4u (talkcontribs) 22:44, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

I received a message from this user claiming to undo some really offensive statements I allegedly made on Tom Cotton's Wikipedia page. I just want to be clear that I did no such thing, and the comments attributed to me are disgustingly offensive. No further discussion on the matter is necessary, I just want to make it clear that I did not make those statements and/or changes and I do not adopt their mean-spiritedness. — Preceding unsignedcomment added by 64.134.197.209 (talk) 19:43, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of entries

Hey, I just signed up for a user name. Could you delete my entries all together? I am at work and don't want someone to have my IP address? JHayden822 (talk) 21:22, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Jennifer

  • Unfortunately, I can't do this because I'm not an administrator, so I can't delete entries altogether. Your entries are always kept in the history of the articles you edited unless they are deleted through revision deletion, which only administrators can do. You'll want to ask an administrator to do this for you. You can see the list of administrators at Wikipedia:List of administrators. Lugia2453 (talk) 21:26, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

I blocked you by mistake, instead of another editor. Then there was considerable delay in posting a correction because of endless "The Wikipedia database is temporarily in read-only mode" messages when I tried to edit. Apologies.JamesBWatson (talk) 20:51, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Actually, I'm not sure that it was my mistake. It seems that it may have been a software bug, because I was just now brought to editing your talk page when I certainly clicked on "edit" on another user's talk page, so I guess that was what happened with the block too. Also, as far as I know I had not seen or done anything to do with your account when the block took place, so it is difficult to see how i could have mistakenly blocked it. Terrace, BC Canada

Not sure what to do here, I'm new to talk pages. I was reading the wiki page on my hometown of Terrace. BC, Canada, and noticed someone had used a photograph of mine on the page! I was stoked!! Alas, there was no mention of credit and whoever posted it said the photo was shot over two years later than it actually was. I merely corrected the date the photo was taken and listed my photography portfolio domain as a credit to the photo. Why was it removed? I didn't even know my work was on the page, let alone mislabeled and uncredited. I deserve to correct the false information.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.232.226.223 (talkcontribs)

  • Oh, I thought it was a spam link, which explains why I reverted it. Still, credit for the image is in the file description page of the file, which you can see by clicking on the image, and doesn't need to be credited on the page itself. Also, two things:

1) Sign your messages on discussion pages such as this one with four tildes (~).
2) New messages on my talk page should go to the bottom of the page. Lugia2453 (talk) 19:42, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

I saw you edited my comments on Indiana.

I think a lot of people are going to this website to look up basic information on the location of Indiana and it is not beneficial for them to have to scroll through tons of information to find it. Please don't delete my addition to the page. It makes it easy for those who are simply looking for basic information about the location of Indiana.

And by the way, why shouldn't be know about exciting places to visit in Indiana. I am from Indiana and I would like to share key places I enjoyed while I was there.

Thank you.

I proved my point, i'm glad you deleted my post. I was actually going in to do it myself...after of course taking a print screen. Question re: Kyam Livingston article

My article on Kyam Livingston was rejected because it allegedly speaks about a single incident. There were three demonstrations in addition to her death mentioned in the article, and two incidents similar to hers are referenced in the article. I also note that there are Wikipedia articles about the deaths of Kimani Gray, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Trayvon Martin, Anthony Baez, Briana Ojeda, etc. Although it may not be a story of national attention (yet), it is widely known in the NYC tri-state area and it had more credible citations in it than a couple of the other stories mentioned above which were accepted. Please explain why these articles were acceptable and notable while Kyam's story was not. I am genuinely interested in knowing how to improve the article, as I feel this is a story that needs to be preserved.

Adminship

Your RfA looks as if it should be clear cut. You;re a decent editor who has the wit to see when mistakes have been made, to learn from them and to correct them. It interests me how the oppose people write long essays and the support people simply support.

I have found that the status of not being an admin is far more useful than actually having the mop and bucket. I see and understand that you would like to be an admin, and there is a strong probability that you will become one, this time, next time or some time. But the elevation process is pretty tough. Sources

Hi, thanks for reviewing the article we submitted at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Trackit.

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed, we added a reference to something relevant we had done with a client, however it did not specifically mentioned Trackit, therefore it was declined. Now, after removing that reference it has been declined due to references?

This issue we have is that companies are looking for us and finding an alternative company with the same namehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrackIT_Solutions, and because of the impact of Wikipedia on the web it's causing confusion.

We are extremely well known in our field, yet because we don't have random site references the article is being rejected?

Any help you can offer would be great.

Thanks

Yesterday you rejected an article I've been trying to get posted for Richardson Electronics for several weeks (I'm freelancing for them). I've received proper approval from their legal department to use content from their website to build this article. The most common reason for the rejection has been a lack of notable sources. Unfortunately, the company's website is all I really have to go on to build this page. I think it is very similar to the page of NEC Display Solutions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEC_Display_Solutions), which also does not cite any sources, so I'm not sure why mine continues to be rejected. Should I submit it as a "stub" like NEC did? If so, how do you recommend I go about doing that?

Trackit Sources

Hi Lugia2453

Thanks again for your comments. I'm still struggling to understand what our next steps should be.

You state benefit to Wikipedia, however currently Wikipedia is not benefiting by distinguishing between the two companies? It allows the submission of one company, which I note has no other references other than their own product set, and not ours, therefore you're dictating who people should and shouldn't know about? Can we contest that the other article is on there as according the rules I keep being directed too, they size up about the same as us?

We are a 4 year old company working globally who work in a technology space which is particularly secretive and private about what tools it uses. Therefore, we don't really walk about what we do other than to clients. This does not make us less notable, simply because we have no references on other websites?

Fundamentally, people want to know who we are and mistaking us for another company who are on Wikipedia. I would rather not have to make the article, but because the other is there we are having to as people (rightly or wrongly) use Wikipedia as a primary source of information and currently it is misleading.

Thanks again for your help with this, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I really fail to see why wikipedia doesn't benefit from acknowledging our company whereas is happy to acknowledge one of the same name?

creating a redirect

Hey hows it going? I am a university student and Ive carried out a bit of research on;

"Future Planning for elderly carers with a child with learning disabilities".

I am new to Wikipedia and have been looking through various articles on wikipedia relating to Learning disabilities. I thought the article I would like to publish on Wikipedia would be best suited to being a redirect from the Learning disability page. You have stated you thought it would be better as a new article. What you you recommend on helping to do this?

I thought my article would have more chance of being published as a redirect from the Learning Disability page as more people would read it as a redirect. Ive a notable article wrote with good references from different books and research groups. I feel it will be a very worthy article to get published on Wikipedia. Would you recommend when creating a new article a title called 'Future Planning' or the longer title that I have outlined above?

Any help will be very much appreciated as im new to Wikipedia and this is my first article.

Uniulstgrad (talk) 20:42, 3 November 2013 (UTC) Ian

Hey Hows it going? I still think that a redirect would be best suited to this article as it is closely linked to Learning Disability. Ive taken your advice and have came up with 2 titles now which I could use ;

"Learning Disability Future Care" or "Planning Future Care For Adults With A Learning Disability"

I would like your expertise to ensure my article overcomes this first hurdle of getting accepted as a redirect. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lugia. Just thought I'll stop by and give you a quiet commendation note on the calm and nuanced way in which you have carried yourself through the past few days. I've left a note for you

I don't know how you feel about your RFA being closed with no consensus, but I think you can take that there is a lot of support for you at some point in the near future. After a little diversity in editing and a few more months of tenure there will be people queuing to nominate you again. It's annoying it didn't happen this time, but I wouldn't be too disappointed.Jamesx12345 17:23, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Pile on sympathies from me. It could have gone either way. Don't get too discouraged. I encourage you to explore WP:3O, if it's something you are interested in. It's a good way to get exposed to the kind of everyday content disputes that many RfA voters want to see how you handle. You don't even need to offer third opinions at first, take it slow and get familiar with the sort of content disputes that happen every day here. Many of them seem silly or petty, but to the people involved, they are highly important, always remember that. Gigs (talk) 16:25, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Redirect-Learning Disability Future Care

Hey Hows it going?

I was just wondering if you have had time to look at my 2 redirects? I put 2 redirects in on the 4th and they havnt had an answer whether they have been accepted or declined as yet. I noticed a few redirects created after my requests have been answered, these were on the 5th, so i was wondering when I would find out the answer to mine?

I also edited my first 'Talk' message with you asking for further information but there hasn't been a response to this either. I have put this below so you can see it. Im new to wikipedia and I am not 100% sure how this all works. Im not sure whether I had to create a new 'talk' message to ask you a question or could simply edit the way I have done the previous message.

Your help is very much appreciated and I await your response.

I need an Redirect request, NOT an new page

Lugia, remember that thing that you denying that redirect to the NYC Marathon page using TCS New York City Marathon. Let me tell you. What you said is not true. I am purely asking to make a redirect, NOT A NEW PAGE. Can you really please try to allow users to direct them to the NYC Marathon's wiki page is they type "TCS New York City Marathon". Again, I'm not requesting you to putTCS New York City Marathon as a redirect to the New York City Marathon. It's still the same Marathon, but with a different name when it comes to it's sponsorship. Please reply if you can. 20chances(Talk) 6:21 PM, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

  • I know that you weren't trying to create a new page, and that wasn't what I intended to say. What I was saying was that what you were asking for was not a redirect request, but what appeared to be a general statement about the new name. That, to me, appeared to be something that was intended for the article's talk page rather than a page to request new redirects. Besides, the title of the redirect you were requesting and the title of the target were the same, so that's why I declined it. If your redirect title had been "TCS New York City Marathon", I would have accepted your request, and I mentioned that in my decline reason. For the record, I've now created "TCS New York City Marathon" as a redirect. Lugia2453 (talk) 20:11, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Our aricle is best suited to a redirect and not a new article

Good Afternoon Lugia

I have submitted another redirect for our article and have enclosed this information below. I have sent you a couple of messages and am awaiting a reply regarding my article. I nhave enclosed the relevant sources you asked for, along with a bit more information on the reason for our article.

Please can you reply at your earliest available opportunity;

(Copy of the Redirect Request) Target of redirect: Learning Disability

Reason: To add value to the existing article. I have searched the existing article and other Wikipedia entries and cannot find any information on the future care for people with a learning disablity. Due to the unique nature of topic, future planning/care for adults with a learning disability, it is important that it is linked to the main 'learning disability' page. The consequences of not doing so will mean few people will not know what to search for, to source such information. There has been limited research on this matter to date as such 'planning' was not required ie people with a learning disability did not out live their parents. Demographics are different today, hence, the need to educate people (elderly carers) about 'future planning' to avoid a crisis situation.

This is the reason as to why our article would be best suited to being a redirect.
