Wikiquote Vandalism
Hello,
What exactly do we do about the IP here harassing us on Wikiquote? Thanks, Hummerrocket (talk) 18:10, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Hummerrocket, you could request a global block. You can check out meta:Steward requests/Global#Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding for more info. Thanks! -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Do you mind submitting a request for me? For some reason I am unable to edit the page you linked. Thanks! Hummerrocket (talk) 18:17, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hummerrocket, not a problem! I added the request. -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:20, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

A message from Mlcastellanos
Mlcastellanos (talk) 13:28, 15 June 2020 (UTC) Hello LuK3, you responded to my third opinion request with, "Hello Mlcastellanos, I saw that you posted a third opinion request regarding an addition to Augmented reality#History. Unfortunately I had to decline your request because the issue has not been thoroughly discussed on the article talk page. If the discussion on the talk page comes to a standstill, you can then post a request over at Wikipedia:Third opinion#Active disagreements. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:09, 15 June 2020 (UTC)".
Maybe I'm not comprehending but isn't this what I did, which you responded to? If you'll note, the "editor" who deleted my addition had not responded to my multiple attempts to engage in a conversation! Thus as you put it, it hasn't been discussed.
On a side note, I'm really saddened with this platform. I've edited here for probably 10 years, and I've never encountered these unnecessary blocks.
- Thank you for the message Mlcastellanos. I saw that you posted a note on GermanJoe's talk page and he advised you to discuss your addition to Talk:Augmented reality. You were also directed to the article talk page by RichardWeiss. Third opinions are only given if there was a discussion the article talk page beforehand (see Wikipedia:Third opinion#How to list a dispute), which you have not started yet. Please let me know if you have further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:39, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
A message from Alcohol70
Alcohol70 (talk) 13:57, 16 June 2020 (UTC) Good morning. He's been accused, not proven. Is that difamatory? In our country criminals are not shown in given sources until they are convicted.
- Hello Alcohol70, thanks for the message. If there are no reliable sources for those accusations, they have to be removed from the article per WP:BLPRS. Those are very serious accusations and we can not leave them in the article without high-quality sources. Please let me know if you have any further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 14:03, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello LuK3,
- Your help can make a difference
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Editing questions
You removed my edit about Wade Townsend because I did not add a citation. Forgive me because I am new to wikipedia and just wanted to make sure that his page was properly updated with his views. How do I add a citation for a facebook post? What I said was very true, I have an image that I can add of the post itself. I dont see any reason to exclude this information if it is fact. Thanks. Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 22:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- Anonymoushackerdude1912, thank you for the message. Unfortunately Facebook posts, and other self-published sources, are not suitable in biographies of living people. I would suggest finding a news story from a newspaper or news outlet. Please let me know if you have any further questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 23:37, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Does a YouTube channel count as a valid self-published source if the YouTube channel is Mr. Townsend’s own channel? Thanks - Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 23:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- Anonymoushackerdude1912, self-published YouTube videos fall under self-published sources, see WP:BLPSPS. If you cannot find a reliable source that covered the incident then you will have to exclude it from the article until a reliable source does publish an article on it. -- LuK3 (Talk) 23:56, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Okay but the section about self published sources says that if the source is published by the person the article is about, then its okay. So I don’t really see an issue with using a YouTube video as a source if that video was published by Wade Townsend. Please advise. Thanks. - Anonymoushackerdude1912 (talk) 00:14, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
- Anonymoushackerdude1912, the issue is that your edit includes claims involving other people, see WP:BLPSELFPUB. Those are very serious allegations to add to an article. I would highly suggest finding a reliable source to verify the information or else it will get removed again. You can take a look at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources to view a list of what the community deems a reliable source. -- LuK3 (Talk) 00:58, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for June 23
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited James Gandolfini, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vanity Fair (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Game of Thrones Copy Edit
Hello:
Here are some notes I made as I went through the article of various areas you might want to look at before submitting it for FAC:
Cast and Characters
”In 2016, several actor contracts were again renegotiated, reportedly increasing the salary of five of the main cast members to $1 million per episode for the last two seasons, which would make them the highest paid actors on television.”
The citation does not support this. Only Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is mentioned and it is unclear whether his salary was a result of a second negotiation or the result of those that took place in 2014.
Adaptation schedule and episodes
”Eight seasons were ordered and filmed adapting the novels at a rate of about 48 seconds per page for the first three seasons.”
I hid “adapting the novels…” as this is a trivial and basically pointless exercise, I think.
Update sections Effect on locations and Directing – there is likely more current information following the 8th season
Visual effects – update?
”More than 300 visual effects artists had worked on the show by season eight.”
– more after season seven?
Update Copyright infringement section – details only up to season 5
Viewership – details stop at 2013 – update section
There may be other areas you'll spot as you review the article.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best of luck with the article moving forward.

It is hard for you, you want to call yourself logical, or smart or w.e, but the one thing built entirely of logic, you are incapable of. Call it truth, call it positive information. I generally start with level one warnings (general notes about disruptive editing) with escalating warnings after each instance of vandalism. Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to help. -- LuK3 (Talk) 11:35, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I see you have blocked the IP address at my school, which is 63.159.0.197 I would recommend blocking anonymous users on that IP forever. Also, my school has a second IP address, 63.159.0.198, which I used to make a few edits earlier today, but I recommend the same course of action for that IP. PhoenixSuns8-0 (talk) 03:49, 18 September 2020 (UTC)PhoenixSuns8-0
- PhoenixSuns8-0, hello. IP address are not usually indefinitely blocked. I see 63.159.0.197 has been blocked for a year so hopefully that'll stop their disruptive edits for some time. As for 63.159.0.198, I do not see enough vandalism or disruptive edits to warrant a block. Please let me know if you have any questions. -- LuK3 (Talk) 10:42, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Harassment
I’ve bee using this website for a good two months now, and for a matter of three weeks I’ve been abused by multiple users for small edits on food articles. A few days ago, I was blocked without notice by an administrator who did not give me context as to why I was being blocked. As a matter fact, I hadn’t been active on Wikipedia for a few days so I can stem away from the issues. Reinhearted (talk) 21:12, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Reinhearted, it's rather disingenuous to call that block "without context" when you have an entire section on your talk page explaining what you needed to stop doing. GeneralNotability (talk) 21:36, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- User El C told me I wasn’t allowed to edit anything relating to the Arab Israeli conflict which I wasn’t, and after he explained that discourse I stayed away from the page overall. A few days later I was blocked without any reasoning as to why I was being blocked. Reinhearted (talk) 21:47, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I’ve tried to explain the situation on multiple occasions the history behind the edit disputes, but he had blocked me after the conflict had been resolved. Reinhearted (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Reinhearted, I would suggest raising this issue with El C on their talk page, User talk:El C. -- LuK3 (Talk) 21:56, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- The reason why I decided to speak to a different administrator is because the mistreatment contributed by that specific user has lead me to feel uncomfortable interacting with them. As I’ve stated, this individual blocked me from editing based on unfair grounds even though I agreed to distance myself from the discourse. Reinhearted (talk) 22:00, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Reinhearted, I see no "mistreatment" by either El C or the other editors who have reminded and warned you of Wikipedia's policies in a calm and polite manner. I would suggest to you re-reading all of the policies/guidelines linked for you, including WP:ARBPIA, so you do not get blocked again. -- LuK3 (Talk) 22:13, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I’ve gone over that article on multiple occasions and I’ve followed every stance, as I’ve stated I haven’t engaged in political articles relating to the Arab-Israeli conflict, there was a misunderstanding with multiple users who couldn’t find the right word to use in regards to a claim on a page which had been resolved. As I’ve already mentioned, this user specifically targeted me even after the situation had been resolved. Reinhearted (talk) 22:19, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Revision deletion
Hi, LuK3,
Please review Wikipedia:Revision deletion#Criteria for redaction. We try to limit revision deletion to copyrighted material and truly appalling or disruptive content. Elements like signatures or comment headers that have regular content do not need to be revision deleted. Even insults are borderline and are not usually revision deleted unless they are racist or incredibly vulgar. But you made the right call on Jimbo's page. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 19:37, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Good for you, for trying out your new tools immediately. Keep it up, that's how you learn. When you are ready to do some page protection, you might want to read my essay User:MelanieN/Page protection. (I see that Kevin has already pointed you to the bling page. Oh, and General Notability did too. Gotta get that bling while it's still shiny.) -- MelanieN (talk) 20:04, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict × 2) Thank you for the message Liz and MelanieN, I appreciate it. I'm definitely going to start at slow and always get a second opinion or ask if I am unsure. Thank you again. -- LuK3 (Talk) 20:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Blocked vandal
Hi there Luk3. I note that yesterday you removed talkpage access from an idiotic editor (or account). Good call. That said, I am perturbed by the visibility level of this lunacy in which I am directly insulted and would appreciate it being revdelled if possible. Thanks. --Coldtrack (talk) 18:04, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Editor of the Week
Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your behind-the scenes efforts. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:GeneralNotability submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I nominate Editor LuK3 to be Editor of the Week for his excellent work in the behind-the-scenes areas of Wikipedia. He has been very active in the areas I patrol (WP:UAA, WP:RFPP, WP:CSD, and revision deletion requests), and I consistently find his contributions in those areas helpful and correct. These areas, as well as his recent changes patrol work are thankless areas of Wikipedia but are nevertheless important tasks, and I believe that LuK3's consistent hard work in these areas is worth recognizing.
You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Pschaeffer (talk) 16:14, 6 October 2020 (UTC) If you look at the Talk page, I provided a source for my statements about Hillary. She did lie about Benghazi and she did get caught. I did not provide a link in the Wikipedia page itself. If that is a requirement, I would be glad to do so. Thank you Peter Schaeffer (Redacted)
- Pschaeffer your edit did not include any reliable sources to back up your claim. Most information, including any claims involving living people, must have high-quality, reliable sources to verify the information you added. How to apply for Admin
Hello, LuK3, can you give me guidance on how to apply for admin?
I feel like I have contributed a lot to Wikipedia, with almost 200 edits. I have 4 drafts, 2 of them turned to articles (Big Bash Boom and Pokémon Go Battle League by Zxcvbnm and Rich Smith)! I have also contributed to Ravikant Shukla, Pokémon, I Choose You and WhiteHat Jr..
Thanks, Wellthisisthereaper (TALK)
- Wellthisistherepaer, thank you for the note. You can take a look at Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship to see what the Wikipedia community looks for in an administrator. Having said that, I would strongly discourage you from running at this time. The community generally likes to see 1+ years of active involvement in multiple areas of the project. -- LuK3 (Talk) 17:55, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- LuK3, Thanks, hopefully when 1 year passes I will have over 100K+ edits since in 8 days I have done over 150+ edits :)

Your GA nomination of James Gandolfini
The article James Gandolfini you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:James Gandolfini for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Will it work to report this Loser LTA to IPShark? It is suspected that this is how he gets so many IP addresses to evade his ban.
Report script: "Greetings, Steve here. I have a suspicion that several dozens of IP addresses used by your service have been used to vandalize Wikipedia and harass people there. It is become such an issue that it is in the long-term abuse. He repeatedly calls people loser and defaces health and COVID related articles. Is this user using your IP Addresses? Cheers, Steve.

https://ipsharkk.com/contact/ ISP abuse
- Hello 4thfile4thrank, I'm not sure how much good that would do. IPSharkk is not like an ISP with a dedicated abuse department to respond to these types of requests. I think it would just be best to block the IPs and semi-protect the articles as appropriate. -- LuK3 (Talk) 20:46, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Seems fair. However, how on earth does this guy get so many IPs that look completely different and aren't detected as proxies? 4thfile4thrank (talk)
- 4thfile4thrank, I'm not extremely well-versed in open proxies and alike but it looks like all of the IPs they are using belong to major ISPs (T-Mobile, Virgin Media, etc.). That may be one reason it's not showing up as an open proxy. -- LuK3 (Talk) 21:05, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Question for GA-nominated articles
Hi LuK3!
I've noticed that you've been working extensively on the Daenerys Targaryen article to ready it for GA review -- you did a great job! I was wondering if it was still alright to make some changes after it's been nominated? I'd like to trim down the season 8 summary a bit more to perhaps about 450-470 words and have a draft ready. However, I wanted to make sure this was alright with you before I did so in case I'd be infringing on any procedures :)
Thanks! Anatashala (talk) 00:47, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

- Patriot10101, please take a look at WP:LABEL, specifically the line that states
Value-laden labels—such as calling an organization a cult, an individual a racist or sexist, terrorist, or freedom fighter, or a sexual practice a perversion—may express contentious opinion and are best avoided unless widely used by reliable sources to describe the subject
. That includes the term "white supremacist". None of those articles say that the article subject is a white supremacist. -- LuK3 (Talk) 12:46, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Ayu Maulida Protection
Can you make the Protection for "Ayu Maulida" from potential Persistent vandalism more longer than just 2-3 days protection. Since the page was constantly vandalized by a bunch of irresponsible newly-created users this past few weeks, maybe should be protected for a month? Thanks before. Socks appear to be back, or at least people accusing each other of being socks. You protected this on Nov. 2 for 3 days.
Would you consider a longer period of semi-protection or pending-changes protection? I'm not sure how long "longer" should be, but at least a week, probably no more than a month, with careful watching after the protection expires.
Note - I reverted it to the last stable version before asking for protection. That could be seen as "gaming the system." If you think it's "right and proper" to undo my edit prior to protecting, I won't complain. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:22, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Rabiya Mateo
Hi. I just noticed that the birthdate of Rabiya Mateo is wrong. It's not January 11, 1996 as claimed by the references provided there which are not reliable such as Dreshare (the source of their articles are from Facebook).
I would like to provide references instead and I hope you would help change her birthdate from January 11, 1996 into November 14, 1996. These are the reliable references proving that she was born on November 14, 1996:
1. Inquirer.net https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/350717/miss-universe-philippines-2020-calls-for-fellow-ilonggos-to-give-donations-for-typhoon-victims
3. ABS-CBN News https://news.abs-cbn.com/life/11/12/20/rabiya-mateos-homecoming-in-iloilo-set-on-november-13
5. Panay News https://www.panaynews.net/red-is-power-ilonggos-paint-the-city-red-to-welcome-rabiya-mateo-home-2/
I hope you will help me in this because the page of Rabiya Mateo is protected. Updating her birthdate using her real birthdate will avoid confusion to our readers. You can check the references I mentioned above as proofs for what I said. Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CCstrong (talk • contribs) 03:40, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of AT&T Mobility
Ok, why? It's the long-established article on the wireless subsidiary of AT&T. The article has been around for over a decade. I see no reason why it should have been deleted. Hi Luk3. Good call on protecting Globe Soccer Awards page. It generally gets these edits right after the event takes place. However, one such edit by Alymboy persists. Would you be able to revert it as well? Many thanks. PCRib (talk) 19:03, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- PCRib, I undid the edit. Thanks for letting me know. -- LuK3 (Talk) 19:07, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Request protection
Hello. Happy New Year. The protection for the page Miss Universe 2020 had already expired. IP users (unregistered accounts) amd other different accounts are vandalizing it. I am requesting for a protection to prevent this issue. Thank you. Lukewin (talk) 13:44, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- Lukewin, I have indefinitely semi-protected the article in accordance with WP:GS/PAGEANT. Thanks for letting me know. -- LuK3 (Talk) 14:00, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
'User-' socks
Hello LuK3, I noticed you blocked several 'user' prefixed accounts for socking yesterday. I think I've found another: User23416. Could you block that one as well? Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 12:38, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Pahunkat, editor blocked. -- LuK3 (Talk) 15:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks LuK3. They actually created more accounts today, see the 'possible spambot' section of User:Pahunkat/Usernames to watch. Pahunkat (talk) 15:27, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- N.B. 109.79.59.253's now decided to edit my comments on their talk page. Pahunkat (talk) 17:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Pahunkat, looks like TPA has been revoked already. -- LuK3 (Talk) 19:44, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Revdelete
Hello please rev delete some disturbing reverted messages on my talk page, I can’t stand them. Thanks --Megan B.... It’s all coming to me till the end of time 15:23, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Synoman Barris, I revdeleted two of their edits. I also see Oshwah semi-protected your talk page. -- LuK3 (Talk) 15:27, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Quick sock blocks and delayed sock blocks
I see that you blocked User32418, User69723, and another seven of the same. I don't know whether it will interest you, but I thought I would mention that I would have waited until the accounts became autoconfirmed, and then block them. I have no doubt whatever that the purpose was to get the accounts autoconfirmed. That is what it pretty well always means when a new account makes ten or (for some reason) more often slightly more than ten pointless edits, often but not always in user space, and then stops. When, in addition, it is done with several accounts on the same occasion, that "pretty well always" becomes a certainty. I see two advantages in waiting rather than blocking immediately. Firstly, if we block immediately the editor can just start again with new accounts with less blatantly obvious user names and less blatantly obviously pointless edits, whereas if we let them think for four days that they are getting away with it then at worst we delay the disruptive edits they are planning for another four days after that, and at best they get so pissed off at their plan having been defeated after waiting that they give up. Secondly, and perhaps even more usefully, if we wait until just after the autonconfirmation comes into effect, we may see them make the first of their planned disruptive edits, which means we know what to watch out for if they do come back with more sockpuppets a few days later, and if the editor is a sockpuppet of an already blocked editor then we get a clue as to which one. Of course this is just an opinion, and you may or may not think it of some value, but I offer it to you as a thought. JBW (talk) 23:41, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- JBW, I appreciate the note. I definitely see where you are coming from, especially with your second point. I was doing some edit filter log patrolling and came across all of those accounts. In hindsight it would have been helpful to see what these accounts were going to do once they achieved autoconfirmed status. I would keep that in mind for the next time this issue comes up (which I assume will happen again). Again, thank you for bringing this to my attention. -- LuK3 (Talk) 00:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Blocking my IP
What on earth is a wheeled racist LTA? I'm fairly sure I'm not one of them, whatever they are. So why the hell did you block my IP? Doktordoris (talk) 14:52, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Doktordoris, IP addresses are frequently reassigned so the block was most likely not aimed at you. Having said that, it seems the account you are on now is not blocked so I would suggest continuing using this account. -- LuK3 (Talk) 15:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Ah. Okay, thanks for your reply. Appreciate it. Doktordoris (talk) 16:00, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Re the warning dished out, I have today seen more like spam => m:User:COIBot/XWiki/themindblown.com. I have blocked two of the accounts as socks of one. Though I am guessing that we may have a bigger problem. I don't have time at the moment to escalate further re socks, though I have globally blacklisted the domain as it clearly is just going to be spammed. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:14, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Billinghurst, thanks for letting me know! I'll keep an eye out on them. -- LuK3 (Talk) 02:43, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Reliable cites
What are some good reliable cites I can use when editing articles? Specifically history of words and origins and such, thank you. Reinhearted (talk) 11:15, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- Reinhearted, your best bet would be checking out Google Scholar and search for academic journals about linguistics and etymology. You can also ask the editors at WikiProject Linguistics and see how they find sources. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:35, 5 January 2021 (UUTC)

Justification for semiprotection of Talk:Macaron
Hi- I was surprised by your response to my request to semiprotect Talk:Macaron. Just to be sure, you did see that there have been eight instances of vandalism in the last ten days, right? Thanks, Dan Bloch (talk) 03:02, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Danbloch and thank you for the message. I did see the edits in question and still do not see the need to semi-protect the talk page at this time. As stated in my declined justification, article and user talk pages are only protected when high and egregious levels of vandalism and/or WP:BLP violations when reverting and blocking would not alleviate the problem. You are welcome to re-report if disruption picks backs up. -- LuK3 (Talk) 13:33, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Redacting user creation logs
Hi LuK3! I hope you're doing well! Just a quick FYI: When redacting user creation logs, make sure to redact both the action and target and the performer's username/IP address. Otherwise, if you don't redact both of them, the log is still visible in the API and can be seen if someone uses the API to pull the list. ;-) If you have any questions, let me know. Cheers! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:42, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

without first assigning it a value or usingmw.config.get('wgPageName')
instead) are deprecated. If your user scripts make use of the globals, please update them to usemw.config
instead. Some global interface editors or local interface administrators may edit your user script to make these changes if you don't. See phab:T72470 for more.
