I have propose the upmerging of Category:16th-century in Central America to Category:16th century in Central America and Category:17th-century in Central America to Category:17th century in Central America as the standard format for centuries in countries etc uses a gap not a dash. Please do not attack other editors, as you did on Forest Highway. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Your comment in this edit summary implied either that I thought a previous edit was vandalism or that my edit was vandalism, yet I said no such thing. REFERENCES and CITATIONS — ( Help )
{{helpme}}
How references work |
---|
Simple referencesThese require two parts;
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
== References == {{reflist}} (an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections) To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Look2See1/reftest and try it out. Named referencesChzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook"> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/> Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result. Citation templatesYou can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look; Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref> Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result. Hi, Look2See1. Do you have a reliable source for the statement "The Great Basin Desert Ecoregion is a former and outdated biogeography term for this ecoregion." you put into Great Basin shrub steppe? If so, that would be wonderful, because the Great Basin-related articles are a mess, and it would be good to merge some of them together. —hike395 (talk) 08:50, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Hike395. I so agree on the mess around Great Basin-related articles, and some categories too. We were both around during it's cats being created, and I recall some early odd evolutions. Per your question, I pasted in the "outdated Great Basin Desert Ecoregion" line from another wiki article or image lede. However, I'm confused on what "ecoregion standard" wikipedia is primarily using, and so non-definitive multiple answers are in next paragraph. The 3 divergent ecoregion designators (EPA, WWF, CEC), and different biogeography, phytogeography, and physiography terms/criteria/zone boundaries are still beyond my interrelating comprehension, for the Great Basin and other places on Earth.
- The (phytogeography) Great Basin Province (floristic province) includes most of the (biogeography) EPA Central Basin and Range ecoregion and southern part of the EPA Northern Basin and Range ecoregion, which are in the List of ecoregions in the United States (EPA). "Great Basin Desert" as term is mentioned in List of ecoregions in North America (CEC)—Commission for Environmental Cooperation, under North American Deserts. Great Basin shrub steppe (and Great Basin montane forests) are in List of ecoregions in the United States (WWF) for Great Basin region. Then there is the non-ecology determined (physiography) Basin and Range Province (physiographic province) that the Great Basin is only a partial component of. Hmmm...
- In my opinion, at least the Category:Flora of the Great Basin desert region and [Cat:Fauna of the Great Basin desert region] need renaming without "desert region." Perhaps to [Category:Flora of the Great Basin (United States)] or [Category:Flora of the Great Basin region]? Its EPA ecoregions and WWF sub-ecoregions are in Deserts and xeric shrublands and Temperate coniferous forests biomes. What do you think would best help organizing/merging, and just simple understanding, please?
- I'll look to you for actual merging process please. As you know too well, my overdeveloped specialty is categories…. Thank you for so much care/work in wiki.text/media about this region.—Look2See1 t a l k → 21:37, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

I saw your edit on the file File:Litografi av Åbo och dess domkyrka, Johan Knutson 1841..jpg, what were the sortings |10 and |w for? Should I leave them like that? Flora categories
Hi, Look2See1: I noticed this edit and others like it. In it, you added the article to every small geographic scale category along with several large-scale category. Could you please take a look at the advice (a work in progress) at WP:PLANTS/WGSRPD? If plants can accurately be described at a larger scale -- regional, large country, or even continent -- they don't need to be placed in every small scale category. This just adds category clutter and gives deletionists a reason to argue against these kinds of categories. Note that the category scheme at WP:PLANTS/WGSRPD is based on the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions and is as yet incomplete in its implementation on Wikipedia. For example the edits you made to Nepenthes species probably only need to be included in the Indochina and Malesia categories. Take a look at some of my recent edits on how I reduced the number of categories while still accurately categorizing its distribution, e.g. diff. Perhaps you could help with making proposals to dispose of categories that don't align with the scheme? I've made an effort at bringing the US and Canada categories in line, but it takes effort -- it's a balance of reducing category clutter and most accurate categorization for plant distributions. Pay special attention to the lede with the advice on which category level to choose from. Make any improvements you see fit or comment on the talk page. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 22:19, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
