Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Llakew18, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Archbishop Carroll High School (Washington, D.C.) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. John from Idegon (talk) 21:56, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with List of parochial and private schools in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of George Mason University Police Department
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on George Mason University Police Department requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Creating articles
[edit]It's really best to create new articles in draftspace or userspace so you can work on them, adding references and content, before publishing them to mainspace. Thanks! Schazjmd (talk) 17:54, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Please launch a proper move request. Thanks. El_C 21:08, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Disambiguation link notification for January 12
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Habesha peoples, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Koore (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 13:01, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
The disimbaguation page is fine (this happens when information about small ethnic groups are split amongst multiple articles. Llakew18 (talk) 16:31, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]List of Ethiopian and Eritrean names moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, List of Ethiopian and Eritrean names, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 04:42, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Your draft article, Draft:George Mason University Police Department
[edit]Hello, Llakew18. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "George Mason University Police Department".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 21:05, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Gyrofrog. Your recent edit(s) to the page Habesha people appear to have added incorrect information, so they have been removed for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You added the text "most especially during the Zemene Mesafint era of Horn African history" alongside a citation of the Fouad Makki source. That source only mentions "Zemene Mesafint" once, in a footnote and not in that context. Gyrofrog (talk) 23:13, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I think you made a mistake because the sources uses an alternate spelling. The Makki source uses the spelling "Abesha" rather than "Habesha". Llakew18 (talk) 23:53, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Zemene Mesafint article says that era was from the 1700s-1800s, which is well after the Middle Ages. Not sure what you mean by an analogy between two different time periods -- but I don't see where Makki makes an analogy, in any case. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:09, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
Notice of neutral point of view noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Long-term issues at Habesha peoples. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 01:28, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
You are suspected of sock puppetry, which means that someone suspects you of using multiple Wikipedia accounts for prohibited purposes. Please make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, then, if you wish to do so, respond to the evidence at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Hoaeter. Thank you. How Am I A SocPuppet ?
I literally see multiple re-occurring editors that state similar points with each other all over pages that I have edited. I even sometimes click on the contributions link and put in the editors' user names or IP addresses to look for other similar pages that the editors have edited that I am interested in to edit. I do this all the time looking for things I want to edit. Along the way, I see multiple re-occurring editors that each time, I notice the same admins, the same admins I even recognize you User talk:Gyrofrog a lot over here to as well. I like to edit certain topics that I know about and I click on the previous contributions of other editors to find other pages that are interesting to edit, so can you just remove this SocPuppet accusation, and can I just get back to editing without this looming over my head? Edit warring to add the Korean name of a US university?
[edit]Perhaps it was an accident but this edit appears as if you are beginning an edit war to add the Korean name of a US university to its lede. If it was an accident, no worries. If it was intentional, please don't do that. ElKevbo (talk) 05:07, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
I originally put the Korean name there because it has a campus in South Korea very well known to the main Fairfax campus. Llakew18 (talk) 05:42, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}
. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
- Don't waste the community's time by adding empty unblock requests. If you don't understand your block, ping the blocking administrator here for an explanation. Pro tip: an unblock request will not likely be granted any time soon. At this point in time, the only way you get unblocked is by proving the checkuser was incorrect, which you cannot do here. Even if you admit you were socking and promise on your mother's grave never to do it again, the absolute soonest they'd consider that is 6 months from now. Socking is a sure way to gain and keep the community's distrust. John from Idegon (talk) 06:15, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
