Jane Murfin: from Mass or Michigan?

[edit]

You say that Murfin was born in Quincy, MA...but most other web sources cite her birthplace as Quincy, Michigan. Thoughts? --Northvistastreet (talk) 14:38, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Tell-tale Heart

[edit]

Hi LiteraryMaven. The problem is that the BCDB is not a reliable source anymore than the IMDb is. It's a submission site that does not cite its sources. Nevertheless, I do have a few references for this article to back up my point. The Photoplayer 15:29, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a matter of fact, I have looked at two original prints' leader (one on deposit at UCLA). I cited my source as the original film itself (or an original print in itself), which although not a print source, is still a source of information. The Photoplayer 18:34, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Every source is "I saw it with my own eyes." Those people who complain about it can get their butt on a plane to Los Angeles and look for themselves if they want verification. Film is obscure stuff, but this is a primary source. The Photoplayer 17:13, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request

[edit]

Your statement in supporting me in the election made me wonder if you were referring to someone else. Your statement in supporting Andrzejbanas seems to confirm my suspicions ("rub off on others who lack it completely") and I think I know the source of your discontent. I ask you to redact this hostile passage because I think you are better than this. It will not help matters; a better approach is to be direct (and polite) about your concerns. (If I am off the mark about your conduct, I apologize. I just wanted to address this situation that I perceived.) Erik (talk | contribs | wt:film) 19:18, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Erik! I never intended my statement in support of Andrzejbanas to be considered "hostile" and I was very surprised you interpreted it that way. I didn't have one particular individual in mind when I made it. There actually are a few editors who I find regularly communicate with others by trying to bully them into submission instead of having a friendly, rationale discussion. Since not all of them are affiliated with the film project, my comment was meant to be a generic one that applies to all editors, but in hindsight I realize since it was made within the context of this particular election it may be misconstrued as intended only for people involved in the film project. If you truly feel it's problematic, I'll redact it, although I think that may bring even more attention to it. (I assume by "redact" you mean "cross out" as opposed to simply removing it, which is a lot less obvious.) In any event, rest assured I did not mean to target a specific person nor did I want my enthusiastic support of a candidate to be interpreted as anything other than that. Thank you for taking the time to write, and please feel free to give me more feedback. Not too long after I began contributing to film articles you offered me guidance I found very helpful and encouragement I found very supportive, and not only have I not forgotten that kindness, but I always appreciate hearing what you have to say. LiteraryMaven (talkcontrib) 13:20, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me. I apologize for jumping to that conclusion, then. I had just recalled a particularly contentious discussion that I witnessed, and I mistakenly assumed that it was related. Anyway, you can leave it as it is since it was not intended to be hostile. Thank you for your support, and I hope we can both be in the same arena come next term! :) Erik (talk | contribs | wt:film) 13:35, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rambo film series

[edit]

You make a good point about the film series article being redundant. Let's start discussion after the move goes through. We can cut back on redundancy and try to find details that are useful across the whole series, like recurring characters or box office information (which may not be available for earlier films). Little Dorrit

[edit]

Please stop changing the plot so that it ends up being incorrect. Arthur didn't deliver the watch to his mother; he delivered it to Mrs. Clennam, thinking that she's his mother. It's rather difficult to phrase that without spoiling the plot early on.--little Alex (talk) 05:49, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The critical reception section you wrote for this film is incredibly one-sided. The film received mixed reviews, not the universal gushing presented by the article. Please fix it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.20.130.118 (talk) 15:06, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I wasn't particularly fond of the film, so I certainly didn't go out of my way to find only positive reviews. Most of the critical reactions I found online happened to like the film. Right now, of the five reviews quoted, three are positive and two are negative. If you can find more negative comments, feel free to add them to the article. W. Franke Harling

[edit]

Awesome, thanks - he's been on my to-do list for a while, but I have hardly any information about him. I'll have a look at Howard's book once I get home - I don't recall there being much in there (apart from a reference to the opera and some description of both its plot and music), but I could be wrong. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:18, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your edit to the stub tags - just as an FYI, the Bispham Medal was awarded to operas that were "American" in the sense that they were written by Americans (see the cases of Bimboni and Franchetti for comparison), rather than being on an American subject. So it would seem that he was considered "American" in his day, at least.
Not trying to be argumentative - just providing my rationale. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:40, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still researching him and working on the article. So far all I've found is that he was born in England and emigrated to New York City with his family when he was a child. I have found no mention of his having become an American citizen. It's a moot point . . . I'm adding enough material that the stub tags no longer will be necessary. Thanks for your input! LiteraryMaven (talkcontrib) 15:45, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Try a search on his full name - William Franke Harling. There's even a German Wiki article (which I interwikied). Also, I found this: Full text of "Our Contemporary Composers American Music In The Twentieth Century". It contains a small amount of info (I don't know how to link to sections within it - just do a quick search for "Harling" and you should be golden.) Perhaps I can help out a little more later today.
Incidentally, thanks for the kick in the pants - I may be able to expand the Bispham Memorial Medal Award article a bit thanks to some new stuff I've found online, which I wouldn't have searched for without this article. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:56, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello LiteraryMaven. I just wanted to thank you for creating the page for John Gay (screenwriter) last June. I was lucky enough to see his play in which Vincent Price portrayed Oscar Wilde back in the late 70's. Then in 2001 he kindly sent me a copy of the script for the play. His wikipage was long overdue and you did a good job on it. Thanks again and Happy New Year and happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 14:38, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reginald Berkeley

[edit]

See Reginald Berkeley (which you have contributed to) for my proposal to merge the two articles as I am certain that Reginald Berkeley (politician) and Reginald Berkeley (writer) are the same person, as confirmed by the obituary of Captain Reginald Berleley in The Times of 1 April 1935 page 9, which refers to his plays and also to his career as an MP (presumably not an April Fools Day hoax!). Could you reply on the article talk page please, as I have asked several people for comments. Hugo999 (talk) 12:30, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. To You and Yours! FWiW Bzuk (talk) 10:32, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Gypsy (film) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Hasn't started shooting. Hasn't been green lit. Been in developmental hell for years.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:57, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
