Welcome to the fashion project, such as it is
[edit]As one of the early joiners of WP:FASH, let me extend a welcome to you. I am delighted by your professed enthusiasm—fashion is such a broad subject, and most of us other names on that list have only so much time to devote to the articles we work on amidst all the other things we do. It will be interesting to see what someone making it their first and foremost thing could do. Feel free to drop me a line if you want any help learning whatever ropes you're learning). Daniel Case (talk) 06:47, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, Daniel Case, for your warm welcome! I am definitely still learning the ropes. I appreciate your offer and will most likely take you up on it, especially since I see you have SO MANY Barn Stars, which is SUPER awesome! I LOVE that you edited The Devil Wears Prada 652 times--it's one of my favorite movies! I agree that the fashion content needs some serious help and I am excited to contribute to this project! A tag has been placed on Christian Dior Ready-to-Wear Runway Collections and Shows, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. power~enwiki (π, ν) 22:31, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
Creation of promotional articles
[edit]You have stated that you've had good intentions here, so I'll leave you a note regarding the promotional articles you've been creating. Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia. It should, in a way that is neutral in both tone and content, catalog facts verified by reliable sources. It is not acceptable to fill articles with breathless pull quotes and litter them with peacock terms ("prized", "sophisticated", "leading", etc.). Similarly, we use a formal tone with names, where an article subject is called by their full name on first mention and last name thereafter. No "Mr./Mrs.", informal reference by first name, etc.
It seems you're very enthusiastic, and I hope you won't lose heart, but unfortunately we cannot host promotional material, regardless of the intents behind creating it. You mentioned discographies, and if you want to create list-style articles, that might be a good place to look. A good discography should contain a brief and neutral description of the album and material on it, as referenced from reliable sources. However, it should be made neutral. If a reference calls an album "The greatest of all time!", we might note that that particular individual reviewed it positively, if their opinion is particularly noteworthy. There would be no need to fill it up with a bunch of breathless quotes and it would be inappropriate to do so.
I strongly encourage you to have articles reviewed by articles for creation going forward. They would be able to call attention to problems like these without necessitating deletion. However, highly promotional material can be deleted even in draft space or sandboxes. Please take care to review the requirements for neutrality; both tone and content are required to be strictly neutral. Yes, that often means rather dry. Christian Dior Ready-to-Wear runway collections
[edit]Hi there, I've just finished doing extensive cleanup on Christian Dior Ready-to-Wear runway collections (you can collectively view my edits here) in order to bring the article more in line with Wikipedia's policies.
I wanted to speak with you about something strange I kept encountering in your text. There were a lot of transcription errors in direct quotes, which is something which may happen when an editor is typing something up from an audio or video interview. However, the cited sources for these quotes were mostly text articles... yet the quotes did not appear anywhere at these sources. An example is the Simons quote where he says "It’s really like adding and offering possibilites." That "possibilities" is misspelled. The cited source is this Vogue article, which doesn't contain that quote. The page does contain a redirect to Mark Holgate’s review of Christian Dior’s Fall 2014 ready-to-wear fashion show, which I thought might yield the quotation... but that review is inaccessible; the link yields an "oops" page.
I ran into this same issue many other times, and I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Please understand that I'm not trying to scold you for making typos - I'm just trying to help improve the article, and part of that involves making sure the quotes are correct and verifiable. Can you shed any light on this? You can contact me on my talk page, or by replying to this message here. Thank you, Jessicapierce (talk) 23:04, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your note. I thought this article was embedded into a larger, more comprehensive article, spanning ten years or twenty collections; unfortunately, I was targeted by a deletionist who deleted it without discussion, along with every other article Wikipedia I'd written, despite the fact that I'd received a Barnstar for it. I'm not sure if you can see that it was once linked to a larger article if that article was deleted. I'd love to know where all of those articles went. I can always recreate and resubmit/repost for consideration. With adherence to Wikipedia policies and guidelines, I have never created articles as a marketing tool. My goal was to make a valued contribution to the Wiki Fashion Project, there seemed to be an overwhelming lack of fashion content on Wikipedia, which has improved in recent years. I believe there is a need for an archived encyclopedic fashion resource, which will benefit historians, students, and researchers.--Lisacarolinamartinez (talk) 23:19, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. The reason it was nominated for deletion was not WP:COI but the lack of enough lasting notability for this single season collection to have its own stand alone article. (In the end whether it remains or is deleted is up to the consensus of other editors.) What you might consider doing is incorporating this into something like "Collections of Carolina Herrera" similar to what is done for the discography of musicians or books authored by writers - lists too extensive to insert in a biography but no single recording or book has enough notability to have its own article. If your article is eventually deleted, the deleting administrator can WP:USERFY it for you so that you can work on expanding it. Blue Riband► 06:44, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
