Stephan Smith
[edit]I see that you've added him to the list of Eagle Scouts. Since I hadn't heard of him before, I googled him. Perhaps you'd be willing to create a page about him, as he appears to be a somewhat notable singer/songwriter/activist? --Habap 14:15, 5 October 2005 (UTC) (Scoutmaster, Troop 149, Arlington, VA)
- After reading your request, I went and began the Stephan Smith article. --L1AM 09:05, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
Nice work
[edit]...on Santa Barbara county-related stuff (especially Santa Ynez Valley area). Good to see another local editor! Btw I added what I think may be the right license to the Santa Barbara flag image. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 23:59, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Santa Barbara is also on my watchlist, so I've noticed your contributions. Thanks! I also saw you fixing this link: [Jack Johnson (musician)|Jack Johnson]. One of my favorite tricks on Wikipedia is that if you insert a pipe-character ("|") alone it has the effect of hiding the parenthetical clarifier. Thus, [Jack Johnson (musician)|] renders as Jack Johnson. Cheers, -Willmcw 09:07, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- That is a really cool trick! Thanks for sharing it.--L1AM 09:10, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Hey L1AM, I added some structure and formatting to the Philmont WikiProject that you started. Feel free to make any changes. I hope other editors are interested in joining the project. Solarusdude 20:45, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
Please adopt your state
[edit]I have now completed the transition from state list to articles on Scouting in each state, as per Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting/RulesStandards, for merger and improvement of articles. Please help fill in some blanks at Scouting in California! Thanks, YiS, Chris 09:27, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
PhilWiki
[edit]Would it be possible to host a Philwiki somewhere? It seems like it could be a very effective, dynamic guide for staffers and potential hikers. So many websites that are incomplete, or opinionated, while forums are nightmares. Likewise, Philmanac has errors and has to be reprinted with each update. Meanwhile, so much information about Philmont is inappropriate for Wikipedia.
Alternatively, We could start one on WikiCities. Getting editors for the project should not be hard, with so many fan groups in existence. Getting the basic material is not too hard - there are sources available, while Philmont's records are also usable. Beside this the administrative elements of PhilWiki could all be taken from Wikipedia, to limit the amount of work needed to complete this.
We could invite all the administrators of Philmont, as well as contacting the people at PSA and other people like living descendants of the Abreus, etc. Donbas 17:30, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I started it. Please become a registered user and I'll promote you to bureaucrat. I threw up a project page, so we can begin organizing the place. I need help building an attractive main page. i have some ideas about how to design it, which we'll have to discuss. Donbas 08:29, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- Things are gliding along in Phikwikistan. Please try to help me write policies, etc. The other users aren't as used to Wikipedia and can work on material, but we need a framework before we open it to the public.Donbas 02:15, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Philmont box
[edit]Would you like to put your Philmont userbox in with the other Scouting userboxes? I could do it for you if you like. Rlevse 10:56, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- What was going on was some image Nazi was purging the images from user boxes that he felt violated Wiki rules about Fair Use tags in userboxes (you can use fair use images in articles, but not user boxes). He pissed me off as he's ignoring some and purging others, so we had some words over it. Then there's the box that uses the BSA logo with a "no" symbol, which Rebelguys2 has tried to get deleted, so he and I have discussed strategy on that one. Anyway, I am sure your box will have no problems in this area. I'll try to get to it today. Rlevse 11:10, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- I see you have the acutal code for all four userboxes on your page. I can replace all four with their templates if you like, that way you don't have to maintain the code. Let me know. Rlevse 15:44, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Where in the userbox pages did you put Philmont? We have a section for Scouting related ones at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Interests#Scouting Rlevse 12:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't find it anywhere, so I merely added it to the Scouting section. It's on my userpage too.Rlevse 19:16, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Facebook exploit
[edit]Looks like they just got wind of it and removed it. I wasn't able to capture a screenshot. I'll take it out of the article, as of now it's not notable enough to be included. --Liface 04:05, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Re: Facebook Archive
[edit]Thanks for doing that - I was waiting for the whole move debate to get settled. I didn't even know there was a fun template for archives - it must be a new thing. -- Thesquire (talk - contribs) 17:27, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I didn't know I offended CFilson.
PS when is it ok to use the scouting stub on an Eagle Scouts bio? 132.241.245.49 05:59, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Santa Barbara Meetup
[edit]Hello Liam. Since you're a participant in WikiProject Santa Barbara County, I thought you might be interested in the Santa Barbara Wikipedia Meetup on Saturday 8 April. Please see that page for details. I hope to meet you there! Angela. 10:16, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Scouting article work
[edit]If you are getting this, it is because you do or did work on Scouting articles (see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Scouting#Participants_and_primary_areas_of_interest).
As the Scouting WikiProject has been formed since early January 2006, we've had many great improvements made in this area of Wiki and I want to personally thank everyone for their help. We don't always agree on things, but we keep moving forward. YIS, Rlevse 22:09, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

References are bugged currently. Please don't blank the article to try and fix that, though? Ryūlóng 05:25, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Tip: when the refs get bugged like that, just append ?action=purge to the end of the URL on your browser; that will clear the page (on the wiki end) and reset the refs. Please drop me a line if that wasn't clear. Kuru talk 05:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. I tried tweaking references but the [a] [b] superscript kept showing up. I tried copying the entire article to my sandbox and the references worked there so I thought maybe quickly blanking it was the only way to fix it (and by the time I tried to replace it, had your edit conflict). Kuru has since pointed out Purge which I'll use in the future. Again, sorry for the trouble! —L1AM (talk) 05:37, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Wiki-marxist garble
[edit]This is a request for immediate help from Kmaguir1. If you have time, I'd like you to examine the Bell Hooks article and talk page. It's a scholarly article about a controversial writer, someone who drew the ire of a conservative commentator. They wanted me to go get the quote from her book, and I did that. But now, they're arguing it's not notable. As a follower of Wikipedia, you will know that of all the meaningless academic trivia included on her page, that what they wanted to exclude was really ridiculous: that she says as an opening to her book, Killing Rage, "I am writing this essay sitting beside an anonymous white male that I long to murder". This may in itself be notable, but David Horowitz wrote about it in 100 Dangerous Professors, and it was written about on front page mag, and all the citations are given on the page. I would appreciate your help--I'm contending with some very difficult Marxists who are attached to her work, and think that they're defending the liberal cause, but really, they're just keeping out material that is very easily notable.-Kmaguir1 08:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Greetings. In the interest of disclosure, I'd like to inform you of a conduct RfC on Kmaguir1. It's here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Kmaguir1. If you have time and are so inclined, feel free to provide comments there. Meanwhile, if you go to the bell hooks page, please do join in the discussion. If you read the Talk page and look at my and others' edit histories, you'll see that the picture is not quite as Kmaguir1 paints it. (I have no idea who the Marxists are he's referring to, and I've also edited his text for improvement, and left it in the article, vs. what he's saying here.)
- Bottom line: welcome to bell hooks, be aware of the RfC, and feel free to join it. Cheers,--Anthony Krupp 17:26, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Santa Barbara News-Press Controversy
[edit]I think the proseline has been ironed out of the News-Press controversy. The article still needs work, but that is hardly surprising, given the fast evolution and abundance of information. snug 13:50, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yep! Looking better! --LEKI (talk) 03:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Re. Comment on my talkpage
[edit]Hi, Yes I have posted comments on the talk:Digg page but I do not believe that I am also user User_talk:209.209.214.5. I have remained logged in all evening and was not even online this afternoon when the first warning was posted on that user's talkpage. In addition the mentioned user's IP doesn't seem to be related to my location or ISP.
As regards to the comments directed at me then I must insist that I am commenting on the correct talk page because my concerns are related to censorship on THAT article. This is not some kind of spam attack but a very serious issue which Wikipedia is mishandling to a tragic extent. Xanucia 22:47, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Talk:Digg. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content which gains a consensus among editors. - Just a note to any other editors reading this, the user who added this message, after Leki removed his/her offtopic discussion, has been blocked. --Android Mouse 18:57, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I actually didn't remove any of their discussions, the user was just confused/attempting to disrupt things. I would have though so its cool. --LEKI (talk) 19:00, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
merge WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch
[edit]As WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch seems to have been inactive since the turn of the year, I propose making it a taskforce of Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting, similar to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting task force. That will ensure it won't get deleted (the WP:Council has been cleaning out inactive projects in recent months) and it will standardize that project with our existing MoS and membership base. We invite your suggestions and comments at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#mergefrom WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch. Chris 20:17, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- We have now gone ahead and moved this, it can now be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Philmont Scout Ranch task force. Chris 07:30, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Philmont Scout Ranch camps
[edit]A tag has been placed on Philmont Scout Ranch camps requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fair use rationale for Image:ILRF Logo.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ILRF Logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Wilderness Diarrhea Getting Killed
[edit]Leki:
- Dunno, but it seems remotely possible you'd be interested in this. Wilderness Diarrhea is getting merged into Travelers Diarrhea by a couple of zealots who seem to have no concept of outdoor interests.
I get around a lot in the outdoors and rarely treat water, but WD article had some good stuff.
- After a couple of weeks of calm discussion, I went ballistic and no longer want to participate. Rational voices might help.
These guys have irrationally convinced themselves that WD isn't a legitimate topic for a Wikipedia article.
- I've pointed out several bomb-proof arguements to no avail. I'd say the strongest is the vast number of published articles that discuss WD as a separate concern from TD. They are both environmental health topics, and obviously the context of each are far different.
- They simply ignore all this.

Orphaned non-free image (File:Ucsb-gaucho-hat.jpeg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ucsb-gaucho-hat.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FileBot (talk) 06:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
UC Santa Barbara Gauchos logo
[edit]I think the one you have put up is not correct. As can be read here, the "primary" one listed is the same one as displayed at the top left of the athletics site. This one should be the main logo depicted on UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. I have found a decent size here which you could switch out. I would do it myself, but I have no idea about all that copyright business. Hope this helps! GauchoDude (talk) 19:02, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
