List of Chinese heads of government (pre 1912)

[edit]

Hi, I happen to find User:Lds/Sandbox/List of Chinese heads of government (pre 1912) in your sandbox. This list is awesome. Can you tell me what is your source, if you don't mind?

I also want to make some corrections/advices near the bottom of the list in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms section: 1. 馮延巳 under "Southern Tang" should be Feng Yansi rather than Feng Yanyi. 2. 王溥 under "Later Zhou" should be Wang Pu rather than Wang Bo. I have created a stub for him at Wang Pu (chancellor). 3. I would recommend you change all the headings of the 5 dynasties and 10 kingdoms rulers to their personal names, like what we have on wiki now. Especially for Former Shu, Southern Tang, Southern Han and Later Shu's last rulers, where you have "Emperor Houzhu". This IMO makes no sense since "Houzhu" is neither a posthumous name nor a temple name but rather a nickname, and it's very atypical to use the expression 後主皇帝 in Chinese as well. BTW Li Yu of Southern Tang was never an emperor (皇帝), only a king (國主), although his father and grandfather were indeed emperors. Sorry for being too nosy since I know it's just your personal space, but just my 2 cents. Cheers! Timmyshin (talk) 07:53, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for visiting the page. It's based on the article 中國宰相列表 on the Chinese Wikipedia. I'm not so familiar with the history of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. I just followed and translated the original headings on the Chinese Wikipedia article. Anyway, thank you for your suggestions. I'll consider implementing them. The page is not ready yet, as you can see. Maybe you can help to improve it further after I move it into the mainspace. Thanks. 05:03, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Feng is actually 延己 (Yanji), I believe — at least the Zizhi Tongjian used 己. --Nlu (talk) 16:33, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like so did the Book of Song, in fact. However, the New History of the Five Dynasties and the Spring and Autumn Annals of the Ten Kingdoms do use 巳. --Nlu (talk) 16:37, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Feng's article on the Chinese Wikipedia says "Yansi" is more "supported" than "Yanji", but has no sources to back up this claim. LDS contact me 00:46, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please use edit summaries fully

[edit]

Information icon Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Ni Daolang has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. Please use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did, and feel free to use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do. Simply adding "fix" or "add" as the edit summary is insufficient and means that other editors have to check the diffs and history to see what changes were done. For example, you could have written, "Added link to courtesy name and tidied templates around Chinese text" or something similar. Since you were doing many similar edits on other articles, you could have then copy pasted that summary to each edit summary that matched that description. Sui Tang Yanyi

[edit]

Hi. While Googling, I found that you have a User:Lds/Sandbox/Sui Tang Yanyi page under preparation, and it seems you have material well beyond stub or start level, so I am wondering if you will be posting it and resolving the red link situation on Sui Tang Yanyi any time soon? (I recently added material on Hua Mulan relating to this work.)
I don't mean to be pushy about making your decision on when to upload. But I will point out that while you had User:Lds/Sandbox/Sui Tang Yanyi (2013 TV series) article brewing, someone has gone ahead and created an article under the title Heroes in Sui and Tang Dynasties. Cheers. --Kiyoweap (talk) 12:02, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the update. I prefer to keep it in my sandbox for now. LDS contact me 10:08, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do You Speak Chinese?

[edit]

It would be helpful if you speak Chinese, so I can explain the problem of the name of Ji Pi, the so-called Ji Ben, in detail and more effectively.——Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 00:21, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do. Please explain. Thank you. LDS contact me 04:40, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

——Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 05:15, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I picked out three main points from what you posted above.
  • The Chinese character "Pi" (上不下十 / 丕) was erroneously recorded as "Ben" (本) in some texts.
  • "Pi" (上不下十 / 丕) was changed to "Ben" (本) in some historical records for the purpose of avoiding naming taboo. E.g. Cao Pi's personal name.
  • 丕 and (上不下十) are not the same Chinese character. There were instances where (上不下十) was mistakenly written as 丕.
Please correct me if my interpretation is wrong, because this might be used as the reasons for renaming the article. LDS contact me 05:35, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad that you have understood it.——Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 05:44, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, I don't think we should rename the article to Ji Pi because we should follow the naming norms already established in the Sanguozhi. However, we can still add a section in the article to explain the naming error. What do you think? LDS contact me 06:32, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be OK. Thanks.——Heinrich ⅩⅦ von Bayern (talk) 06:35, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Kweilin incident

[edit]

Hi! Do you know if there are any Chinese-speaking Wikipedians willing to start a Chinese version of Kweilin incident? Being the world's first ever airliner shootdown is a major historic event, and the same plane was shot down twice! WhisperToMe (talk) 03:58, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't, unfortunately. I agree that the topic deserves an article in the Chinese Wikipedia. LDS contact me 16:35, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. If you do run into somebody, please let me know :) - If you have time to make a short stub of 50 characters that would also be appreciated! WhisperToMe (talk) 16:49, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind helping me find a source for that statement about hiding in houses?

[edit]

Instead of trying to disprove something we could ya know, do what any other member of a project in history would have done, looked for proof first. I don't remember where but I swear the Wushu mentioned something Gan Ning hiding in houses. As you know my Chinese is very very limited (like ten to twenty characters maybe less) Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed

There's nothing mentioned about him hiding in people's houses and waiting for them to return and then kill them. I believe it's a misinterpretation of the second part of this line from the Wu Shu: 寧輕俠殺人,藏舍亡命,聞於郡中。 It says: (Gan) Ning behaved recklessly and killed people. He had to go into hiding in houses to evade the authorities. He was infamous throughout the commandery. LDS contact me 03:34, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have also responded on dk's talk page. LDS contact me 03:38, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Global account

[edit]

Hi Lds! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to ping me with {{ping|DerHexer}}. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:25, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DerHexer, I encountered a problem while trying to unify my local accounts. There are other accounts also called "Lds" on seven other Wikipedias and they cannot be automatically confirmed as belonging to me. Could this be because I changed my username last year by usurping another user's account? Can you help me with this? Thank you. LDS contact me 12:28, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've usurped all local accounts without any visible edit so that only the itwiki account is left. That account will be renamed during SUL finalization till April 2015 which will complete your global account. If you want to merge Special:CentralAuth/Lonelydarksky with Lds, please notify me in late January when the account merge tool will be available. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:14, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know how to convert lunar months to Julian dates?

[edit]

I think it would be beneficial if it could be done. Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed 20:02, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would have done it myself if I knew how to. But it's also not a bad idea to keep the original Chinese calendar dates because it makes the job easier if we need to refer back and check the sources. LDS contact me 09:34, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking about starting a page in my userspace or something where me and hopefully someone else can make a chart doing just that. If it is ever completed, we can just include in parenthesis (so called Julian date) I think _dk may know how to find some of the dates because he said he found out the 10th lunar month span in the year 252 or something like that.
