Miller's Ale House
[edit]The information currently on the Miller's Ale House page is wrong. The page is a stub because it does not list any of the menu items Miller's is known for and the locations you can find the restaurant. Why revert it back to the outdated article that mentions 2012? Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Book of Bad Arguments
[edit]Hi Laoris,
Would you please take a second look at BookofBadArguments.com, which I cited on the Ad Hominem page? Although there is a print book available, the URL I posted leads to the full text of the book, which has been released under a CC license. The Book of Bad Arguments was conceived as a free, public education project, so I thought the link was worthwhile addition. Defer to you though!

Cliven Bundy article
[edit]I'm a bit baffled. I removed the cite from KLAS in Vegas because when I clicked on it, it did not come up and a got a message that it didn't exist. I went to the station's search engine and tried a number of different ways to bring up the story, because the part that Cliven had "ordered" the sheriff to take action is important to the article. Though I tried many different terms, it still didn't come up. So rather than just add a "dead link" notification, I finally just made sure that another citation contained that info. When I went back to the page, after getting an alert, the two-year-old story did come up, although there's a red letter warning at the references section of the article that the URL is defective. I'm glad you got it, though the URL should be straightened out, but I'm very puzzled as to why I couldn't find it. Maybe you can figure it out. Thanks! Activist (talk) 20:51, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- The same situation pertains here at the "standoff" article. You've fixed the same cite so it now works, but there's the following warning at the references section, cite #23:
Thanks again for all your efforts. Activist (talk) 21:04, 25 January 2016 (UTC)"I-Team: Political cause growing in Bundy's dispute with BLM". KLAS-TV Las Vegas. - Hi @Activist: I'm not sure what happened to the old story at the KLAS-TV site, but I used the Wayback Machine to get an archived copy of the story from around the date it was originally cited by Wikipedia. Then I added the link to the archived copy using the
archive-url
parameter of the citation template. - As for the "Check |url= value" warning, it usually means there's an invalid character in the
url
parameter of the citation template. In this case, it's because the link was formatted like an external link with text (e.g.,[http://example.com text to display]
) where it should have just been a bare URL. I removed the title from theurl
parameter since it was already in thetitle
parameter. Hope that helps. Cheers —Laoris (talk) 21:17, 25 January 2016 (UTC)- That's very helpful. I had not tried Wayback as I didn't have the time and more often than not, Wayback hasn't had the info I'd sought. Good hunting! Activist (talk) 23:18, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Why did you remove my corrections ?
[edit]I made some edits to the grand rapids page and u removed them Artprize99 (talk) 19:53, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Artprize99: My apologies; I may have acted too quickly in completely removing your edits. The nickname change was correct; however I thought there were two other problems with the changes, which I alluded to in my edit summary:
- The 2014 population was already represented in the population estimate field of the infobox, and other data in the population section were associated with the 2010 Census population figure (rank, density, urban area rank). Ideally those would also need to change to use the 2014 number as the primary population figure.
- The reworded lead sentence used language that sounded somewhat promotional, and was also imprecise with the time period it referred to. The existing lead sentence is more encyclopedic. Besides, to properly show that the population is "rapidly growing", I think there would need to be a comparison of Grand Rapids' population growth compared to other population centers.
- I will restore the nickname and population changes you made, and then try to find new values for the other population fields. Or if you wish to do so, you are welcome to make the edits yourself. I will also strive to be less heavy-handed in my edits. :) Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! —Laoris (talk) 20:39, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- You can go ahead and update all the population stuff to the newest u can so 2014 if that is newest. And also I knew the opening sentence wasn't that great but many people refer to cities with metro pop of over 1m as a major city and he has experienced a lot of growth with people, tourism, and new companies coming to the area such as retail and dining. So if u could try to make a better opening sentence that would b great because I think it deserves to be worded and sound important rather than just saying it's the second largest in Michigan . If you could help thanks so much . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artprize99 (talk • contribs) 03:27, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know the "result" of your move request. I'm assuming you put in that request to get Bainbridge, GA USA deleted; however, that is not what WP:RMTR is for. However, I do agree that moving the redirect to another title was somewhat problematic, given that the edit history at Bainbridge, GA μSA was moved in the process, considering that it was nominated for WP:RFD in the past. So, I moved the redirects over each other so that their edit histories matched their titles. If you believe that Bainbridge, GA USA needs to be deleted, feel free to nominate it for WP:RFD. Steel1943 (talk) 21:35, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Steel1943: my primary intention was to have the page at Bainbridge, GA USA moved back to the correct title of Bainbridge, GA μSA, which was not a misnomer. From the comment the original mover made, I inferred that the user had misunderstood the meaning of the μ in μSA, thinking it was an initialism for United States of America rather than micropolitan statistical area. Therefore I did not think it would be controversial to have the page moved back to its original title, which was in line with the titles of statistical area redirects. I did not put in the move request with the primary intention of having Bainbridge, GA USA deleted. In this case, should I have opened a move discussion instead? —Laoris (talk) 22:06, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Laoris, I actually did what you requested on WP:RMTR as best as I could without causing controversy with my own actions. But no, as far as I can tell, you did the right thing. However, Bainbridge, GA μSA and Bainbridge, GA USA are both redirects, so there's no content to move; I happen to have editing experience with possibly confusing situation such as this, such as editors moving a redirect to a new title, creating a new redirect. ...And with that being said, I see what I missed now, and you fixed it, and I thanked you for it. Remove unneeded conversion and reference to a non-standard mass unit
[edit]Regarding the two changes https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Allosaurus&oldid=750736819 and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Allosaurus&oldid=750737130 , please explain your justification to support non-standard measure units/regionalism in the English Wikipedia which is not US Wikipedia.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.235.229.22 (talk • contribs)
- The short ton is widely used in the US, where a significant portion of Wikipedia readers reside. Unit conversions improve comprehension for these readers who may not be familiar with SI units, a practice which is generally recommended by the Wikipedia Manual of Style where English-speaking countries use different units for the same quantity. Though conversions are not required for science-related articles, their presence may still aid readers and I see no reason to remove such conversions for Allosaurus, which has geographic ties to the US. —Laoris (talk) 14:25, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- I have to disagree with your statement regarding Wikipedia usage statistics as a reason to keep short ton conversion in use. From page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_ton the only countries where this unit of measure is used is US and Canada. From https://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageViewsPerLanguageBreakdown.htm readers originating from US+Canada for English Wikipedia is only 46.2% which is not the majority. Following this precedent, the same portion of the readers should be represented with all the specific regionalism in use to ease reading for them as well. Do US/Canada users/editors have some specific rights over English Wikipedia? If not, this discussion shall be brought to a more wide board. I agree, instead, on the geographic ties of Allosaurus to US. --109.235.229.22 (talk) 14:57, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- 46.2% isn't a majority, but it's definitely a large portion of readers. By using both SI and US units, the vast majority of the audience can be accommodated, rather than just 53%. Clearly we cannot always support all units used by all regions, but the US and Canada represent a significant portion of Wikipedia views. —Laoris (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
