[edit]Hello, I'm Classicwiki. I noticed that you made one or more changes to an article, Green Hope High School, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hello. Your recent edit to Green Hope High School appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. - Please stop adding non notable alumni to Green Hope High School. As I told you on my Talk page if they don't have a Wiki page they don't belong on this list and a local highschool newspaper doesn't show notability. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:27, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Refs
[edit]Your refs need a title= parameter, and ideally could do with a website= and an access-date= parameter, so that, for instance:
- {{cite web |url=http://businessnc.com/capital-idea-carolina-twist/}}
turns into
- {{cite web | title=A Capital idea with a Carolina twist | url=http://businessnc.com/capital-idea-carolina-twist/ | website=Business North Carolina | access-date=3 April 2019}}
Template:Cite web explains at much greater length - there are all sorts of other parameters you could, optionally, include. And if the source is a news article, then Template:Cite news might be the better option. hth --Tagishsimon (talk) 05:04, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Ben Brooks (investor)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ben Brooks (investor), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 06:25, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

@Scope creep: Hey, I cannot entirely agree with the statement that this is a page for advertising. I mean if I write an article about any CEO is it automatically me trying to advertise them? However, I assume the main concern is if Ben is notable. I can see your scepticism over his notability as he has not won a Nobel peace prize or anything. However, he has created a state-based stock index which is the first of its kind. He is the first to make an index based on a state which is revolutionary. Secondly, he has funded several industry top performing companies. He owns debatably the largest investment firm in the south-east. I mean he is causing waves in the industry, and I have several sources to back it up. I think you can see his notability so now I will go to the advertising issue. As you can tell when you read it that it is 100% objective at least in my opinion. However, with all this being said I respect you guys much for not just abusing power and just straight up deleting it like others. I think it's clear that this is an objective article, but if you disagree, please tell me why you think it's not, and I will change it no questions asked. Sorry if I came off as mad or rude, I would like to say I am genuinely thankful that I came across reasonable mods. Lamarsmith15 (talk) 22:00, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Request reason:
I am not associated with the person in any way except for being in the same state. Please tell me why you think this is advertising. Lamarsmith15 (talk) 17:19, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
Decline reason:
I wanted confirmation from MER-C, but yes, I'm not buying it. "I in no way know who brooks is on a personal level" doesn't preclude the possibility you are engaging in SEO or otherwise working to promote him for whatever reason. Maybe you can convince someone else in another unblock request, but being unblocked will probably involve some sort of topic ban. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 13:20, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
The article I wrote didn’t promote or compliment him in any way other than mentioning how he made the first ever stock index based on North Carolina. Yes I listed this because it’s a social accomplishment rather then personal. The whole article was meant to build up around this. Lamarsmith15 (talk) 17:22, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- The article is only supported with press release-type articles or basic business announcements, which usually does not establish notability. As such, it seems that the only purpose of the article is to tout the business skill or acumen of Mr. Brooks- in other words, promotion. It is not uncommon for those in business or other fields to hire people to work their 'internet presence' or write articles here on Wikipedia about them. Do you know Mr. Brooks in any way? 331dot (talk) 01:21, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
I totally see we’re you're coming from with this but I think that most or a vast majority of these sources combat just saying announcements and releases with a lot of original commentary. I’m saying that it’s not all just quotes. Also it’s kinda hard to find a article on a ceo or company in general that’s not in some way related to a announcement or release. I mean any significant event done by the ceo is a announcement in one way or another. Take the first reference for example. How can a ceo making a new index (which is significant) be sourced without it being an announcement. Unlike artists who can say whatever anything a ceo says or does is an announcement. But along with this I do see you’re point. One or two of those sources were used because they had key information that wasn’t mentioned on any other original articles. Also none of these come from the actual company but rather from reliable big 3rd party media companies. Could you possibly send me the link to the policy that mentions these types of articles to not be used so I can just review the rules again please. But since this convo is about my ban for advertising/promoting I want to mention something. I honestly don’t know where the promoting or advertising was done. The only thing that comes to mind is how I wrote a lot about his background and accomplishments which was meant to establish a timeline to when he made this index. With this being said if this is what you guys are considering promoting I am glad to remove it if it means I don’t get banned from editing. I in no way know who brooks is on a personal level. I mean it’s just kinda discouraging to put hours into finding a good and notable candidate and then more into researching and writing about him and then just be banned after the first article. I am glad to remove whatever is the concern in here or I could also restructure the article so it speaks less on background and more on the significant events. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lamarsmith15 (talk • contribs)
- Please see WP:BASIC; it states "If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources may not be sufficient to establish notability". Most of the sources are not about Mr. Brooks personally but about something he did. 331dot (talk) 10:28, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
- MER-C do you have any additional comment? 331dot (talk) 10:29, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yes - I think all of the above is, quite frankly, bullshit. This was always about SEO. MER-C 10:35, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
First off whatever I say won’t change anything and I understand that. But no I’m not trying to go through some loophole. I am not a SEO I am not in anyway hired or employed by him and I never spoke to him digitally or personally in my life. I just don’t know what left you to say I’m a bullshit lying SEO faker. Is it because I’m new? My name? I mean what is it. He is establishing the first index ever based on a state. Yes I do live in the same state and I wrote about him since he’s in icon in the industry around here — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lamarsmith15 (talk • contribs)
